View from high top tables at the back of the theater.

From the moment you walk in the door, it's obvious that Arkadin is not the typical, run-of-the-mill movie theater. It is by far the coolest, most intimate and creative movie theater in St. Louis. It comes across as a labor of love by owners who set to work rehabbing two vacant storefronts just as covid hit but were undeterred and pivoted to outside movies on their "backlot" until they could show movies inside. Rehab was completed in 2023, giving movie-goers a popular, year-round destination since then, with movies and events still held outside when the weather is good. The owners' dedication to providing an enjoyable and unique experience also shows in their customer service, which is much like visiting the home of friends for a movie night with the hosts who greet regulars by name and serve snacks and drinks or just chat about movies when they have a free moment. Movies offered are eclectic but well-chosen with a few selected for family viewing and many chosen for a wide-ranging adult audience with everything from silent movies to modern horror to romantic comedies, documentaries, and every other possible genre. Seating for around fifty patrons includes bar-height tables, comfy upholstered chairs, and more traditional but very comfortable movie seats. The Arkadin Cinema and Bar is definitely worth a visit: monthly movie listings are posted on the theater's social media pages and available in print at the theater. Those who want to check it out before committing to buying a ticket (the prices of which are very reasonable) can attend a free Happy Hour screening before many of the main features shown, just another reason this theater is so very cool.

Arkadin Rules. I've gone a handful of times now and I am hooked. As a film person, it's so fun to see cult classics, random older films, or foreign films in a space with other cinephiles. The folks who run the space are so kind, and they make some good cocktails, too!

    Grey Gardens night!

I've been wanting to see Grey Gardens for years and was finally able to experience this cult classic at Arkadin. What was meant to open as a micro-cinema next door to The Heavy Anchor last year, has been partnering with the bar to host movies on the outside patio because of covid. Tickets are limited so be sure to order in advance. Some seats are available but you can bring your own. Popcorn and candy for sale - lowest prices you'll find at a cinema! You can order drinks at The Heavy Anchor (check-in to get a $1 off). Enter through the bar to get to the backlot. The bar also has some food including Dogtown pizza. I'll definitely be back this summer! They offer such interesting movies you won't be able to see anywhere else. Plus a monthly Nicholas Cage movie and drinking game if that's your thing! This is a true gem of Bevo and can't wait to see what they have planned.

    Inaugural showing- Freaked!

Arkadin Cinema is finally open and one of the coolest spots in town! If you're looking for a fun, intimate, one of a kind movie experience in STL, you're in the right place. We came out for the inaugural movie experience to see Freaked and it was fantastic. Check out their showings coming up! Honestly can't wait to see how their fandom grows.

I was at first thrown by the fine print that requires on time arrival. It totally makes sense (to allow food orders to be delivered before the movie begins) but I didn't realize this rule until almost too late. But normally in an AMC or Cinemark I arrive 15-20 after the stated time because previews are soooooo long. I'm addition, the small theater space and fact that they direct people to use QR codes to snitch on fellow patrons also is a bad fit for my particular movie viewing style. I like to be able to feel like if I have a prediction to whisper to a friend, a loud laugh, or a yelp at a jump scare in the movie I don't risk being kicked out. Since all theater brands have more elevated food and drink options as well as recliner lounge seating this brand just seems unnecessary for me. But the flip side is this is the perfect place for folks who would hate being in a movie theater with me. Lol

The seats were comfortable and roomy, and the movie was really great, but we wish it was longer. The only issue was getting back down in the the accessible elevator. It was full of people with strollers and no one would make room to get my Dad in his scooter on, so we stood there for 20 minutes while elevators opened and closed in front of us until there was one empty enough to get inside. People should be more mindful... if there are eight people in an elevator and only one is pushing a stroller, the other seven people really should get off the elevator and take the stairs if they are physically able to make room for someone in a scooter or wheelchair. It was ridiculous. It was a hot day and the science center was jampacked. It was like the hunger games. LOL!

Due to this the seats didn't lean back, so they were not as comfortable as the ones further down. Also we could feel all the vibrations of the sound, which honestly I enjoyed!!! Some of the images during the movies were a little curved and distorted due to the size of the screen. But overall it was a cool experience. I would love to go back again and see one of the movies that are specifically made for the omnimax screen!

The BEST is the Webster Film Series. Incredibly thoughtful mix of new international and independent films and retrospective programming. In addition to the screenings themselves, occasionally they partner with other groups for a series and bring in speakers. I always look forward to whatever they will have next. On a practical note, there is a half circle of parking spaces right in front of the hall, and I've never had trouble finding a spot. Screenings always start at 7 or 7:30, so I recommend Cyranos (who have a decent Happy Hour) right up the street first for a quick bite / drink if you wanna make an evening of it.
