I have to agree with some of the previous posts about the price of the food. We got some takeout food recently and we were in shock at how much the food cost. It's almost better to go to a sit-down restaurant. We ordered a large container of bistek and it was about $30! I think their food is good. In the past we've ordered, sisig, eggplant omlette, pancit, turon, lumpia and laing. All of those were good. I do enjoy their food, but it's starting to cost too much. read more

It is a one stop shop for Filipino Cuisine. If you have a party at home and wants to have good food, plus aims for convenience picking up, parking etc.. organized pick up. This is the place to go and try. Staff are accommodating and courteous, making sure food is packed and wont leak in the car. Handles the ordered food properly, super detailed and systematic. Food is delish, the lechon kawali sisig was a fave in the party with their sotanghon guisado, and likewise the lumpia veggies too. Their dessert cassava was a also well packed in a bilao... giving it the pinoy creativity. My visitors were glad to come and compliments the food i ordered. Good portion too for their trays. Service was very poor , servers mostly looked overworked , unhappy at their place of work . Food was pricey. Depends on servers , you can be so shortchanged, food inside cup were mostly half an inch less from the rim, esp if "Batang " happens to be your server . It's very disheartening . Many times there are barely toppings on your pancit , it's majority bones that fill-up your cup , or it's sauce yet their prices kept going up . Cashiers are overly distracted by other things other than the actual customers , I have been a customer since they started the fast food service yet I have yet to see a better efficient service . It seems though that management is not on top of this , it' has been a long standing problem . We ordered food for a family party. WE ordered half lechon, large trays of beef kalderetta, pancit bihon, menudo, pinakbet, and for desert we ordered ube maja blanca, miko and bibingka malagkit and others. Most of the dishes are good and passable for the gathering but the biko malagkit and menudo are embarrassing to serve. The biko malagkit are overly soft due to over use of water to prepare and their menudo had too much watery sauce almost like a sinigang. When we called to complain on these matters, Arko promised to call back but they did not. We called them them again to get back the cost spent on those two dishes but they said they have to bring the matter to their manager. After a week, there is no resolution. Their pancit bihon clearly lacking in vegetables and their pinakbet had the vegetables overcooked. However the taste were good. Be careful to order from them because the quality of their preparation of food needs improvement. It is embarrassing to serve them especially if you have non Filipino guest. read more

The food here is great. My usual orders for potluck are the lumpia and turon. It's super convenient to order ahead of time and schedule a pick up. Although, I will never order from here again on a holiday. I was extremely disappointed in how disorganized and chaotic the pick up process was. I waited over an hour for my order, which I had a scheduled pick up time for days prior, making me late for holiday plans. Not only was it late, I had to switch one of my dishes to something else because they ran out. You have to line up in a long line once you arrive, even though you have a pick up time already. The food was also running out, multiple customers had to get refunded or change their order because they ran out of that dish or gave it away to another customer, even though this was an order made ahead of time. The workers are all great and did their best with the process they had. They were kind and tried to correct all the issues that were happening. This is a management issue. For such a large establishment, they really should have a better process with pick up orders during the holidays. It was a mess. read more

I lived for many months just a few doors down from this delightful "Old School" Filipino market. It might have been one of the only reasons why I remained in the creepy hooker porn motel that I had accidentally checked into when I lost my apartment (what can I say - the price was good, and I got free ice.) Anyway, at first I thought that the word "Arko" was a bad name, and I didn't want to go there. I don't know if I was expecting auto parts or what. But finally when I did the trip I was not only surprised by how many imported Asian and Filipino canned and packaged goods they carried, but I was also shocked by the excellent fresh produce hidden in the side room, and the old fashioned butcher/fish-monger that was manning the meat counter. But even more than anything else, I was thrilled and delighted to find a steam table area in the front, lined with chafing dishes filled with delicious smelling Filipino food. The counter was being serviced by a dozen Filipino women dishing out and packing up amazing looking meals for the dozens of loud, hungry customers, all squeezed like raisins into some Asian style chaotic jumble, each one waving their number-slips towards the busy counter-women, howling to be served. The crowd was so thick that I thought to myself "Wow! This must be a Great Place!" (Crowds are always the best sign.) Since then I've come back here a dozen times, mostly for the hot Filipino take-out meals (which always comes with free soup), but sometimes for fresh vegetables, eggs, or milk. This place does have what you need for almost every conceivable meal (except lobster and caviar.) But definitely come here for the prepared food, even if you live far away - it is absolutely worth the trip. And most of the time it's not as busy as it was on my first visit. I would describe all of the delicious dishes that I ate, but honestly, because they put out 50 different dishes per day, and I ate so many, I just can't remember them all. But trust me, to put together a great meal I just pointed at a few of the best looking food-bins that {many of which I had never even seen before}, and then everything I brought home was absolutely delicious. The food was great but for a first timer, we were at a loss that there was supposed to be a ticket to get. No one told us to get it (the servers nor other customers) which I thought was a bit off or rude, as I usually tell people about stuff like this especially if they look "lost" or new. The owners have installed a sink outside the building (close to the entrance) and provided soap so customers can wash their hands before entering the store. Through the recommendation of a friend I went here to order several trays of Filipino food for our group dinner. Their catering menu is quite extensive so I picked at least four entrees which was already quite a selection. The adobo and menudo were outstanding, The Shanghai lumpia was perfectly fried and the beef and broccoli was delicious! I've been coming to Arko for as long as I can remember! I love going with my aunt to grab any snacks I can find while my aunt orders fresh food~ we love the food but definitely have a problem with customer service! We always have a problem with the guy server with the cap. He has a tendency to get distracted by other things and it seems like he doesn't want to do his job! It also seems like he takes his time giving us the food and we have to constantly ask him about the food. I thought it was awfully rude to hand out the food without looking at the person who ordered it. Arko Foods International is a Filipino grocery store with a very large to-go steam table. It can be VERY crowded and people push towards the steam tables, even though they have to pull tickets to be served. Arko serves authentic, typical Filipino food and is especially popular after Church (so probably one of the best times to go there is while people are in Church, so it is less crowded). Arko is, also, unfortunately, typically like the home country: the steam trays are kept uncovered so that flies land on the food. That's why I stopped going to Arko for food from the steam tables. Also, they typically do not have Lumpia Shanghai available to sell - they seem to only cook large trays of Lumpia Shanghai for special orders. Which is very weird, because Lumpia Shanghai is one of the most popular dishes in every Filipino restaurant. One thing that is unique and very delicious are the garlic cashews (that have flavorful pieces of fried garlic mixed in with the nuts), which I have not seen in any other Filipino grocery store, bakery or restaurant. Everyone has garlic peanuts, but not garlic cashews. So I stop at Arko ONLY for garlic cashews (usually buying 5-6 packages at a time, to last us for a while). read more
