Han Kook Market is a small Korean marking located in a corner plaza that shares the parking lot with a dentistry, spa and a hair salon. My husband and I were in the general area and decided to check out this market (in which my husband found on Yelp). We came on a Saturday afternoon, around 3:45 pm. We were greeted by the employee behind the register when we came in. Although a small market, there is actually quite a nice variety and selection of banchan in the back. After browsing, we ended up buying some vegetables, a few cans of Kona coffee for my husband and kimbap (which is found right by the register. There are also other premade food items by the register as well). The aisles are a bit busy and crowded with items and a somewhat narrow walkway. But it did surprise me that even with a small market, this market actually has a lot of items that is rival to H-mart and other larger Korean markets. Service was very friendly with the woman at the register ringing me up. Please note that there is a $10 minimum for credit card transactions if you wish to shop here. To be honest, because I don't live in this area and do not normally shop in this area either, I most likely won't be back. But would recommend it to others.

I love this Korean market. They have a wide spread of banchan. It is a small but they have a wide assortment of meats, fresh vegetables, fruit and more. I was looking for a new Korean market because I hate going to hmart because the quality of their food was gone bad. I'm so glad I found this place and I will be coming back here for all my Korean groceries.

Their bread selection is quite nice with all local bakeries making dark Rye bread and other Middle Eastern style breads. The yogurt selection is varied and lovely, they even carry glass jars of Strauss Bulgarian style yogurt and a wide selection of labneh. Fresh feta in deli section also is great as well as unique Middle Eastern and Eastern European meats. We also purchase imported sparkling water, they have a nice refrigerated cooler near the registers, there are several brands we have come to like. From what I remember, there is no produce here, mostly dry, shelf stable and refrigerated goods.

The name "King" is a homage to honor their father, who was known to be the king of fruit. Super King Market is best known for their produce, excellent quality and very affordable prices. The market itself is very international in which you can find Middle Eastern items, Hispanic items and also Asian grocery items as well. I really love Super King and so does my husband. After my husband had discovered the location in Claremont (I actually had shopped there before he did, many years ago), he just has this desire to visit the other locations. We have already visited the one in Glendale, which is my least favorite of the 3 that we have gone to so far. This location is cleaner and does seem to be bigger (but I prefer the set up and layout of the location in Claremont. The parking is way better than the other 2 locations that we have visited). Anyways, we came by this store on a Saturday and it was definitely busy. But not so busy that it felt crowded (but can't say that will be the same for you if you come on a weekend). The first selection I love to visit is their produce section. There is such a vast variety of different, good quality, vegetables and fruits. And what makes this section even better is the fact that the produce is so cheaply priced. A market like this really encourages you to choose healthier choices of fruits and vegetables (and also whole grains. The dried grains, rice + beans section is also very cheap, as compared to the typical American market like Von's, Ralph's, etc). I also love all the different types of breads that you can find on the other side of the store. The prices for whole wheat pita bread is very cheap too (and also the regular pita bread for those who don't appreciate whole grain foods and don't get enough fiber in their diet). Be aware that a lot of their fresh breads have a short shelf life so make sure you finish your bread before they go bad and have mold :( Customer service at the register was just whatever, but I don't come to this market expecting it to be stellar, so that doesn't bother me. The prices are great here, the selection of food items (in many different departments, not just the produce) is excellent and would come back to this location more often if I lived in the area.

Well they have super long lines and no baggers. So the cashier has to bag and it can take so much…read moreextra time. Unless you the customer bags your own stuff. But the elderly can't do that so it's why the lines are so long. Now here is the kicker. At the end of the checking line is a manager ...sometimes 2. A man and a woman. They are observing the long lines...counting something...just observing. It would help if THEY just go to the end of a long line and start bagging! See, that would be cool! You see you guys have not scheduled any baggers and the lines are so long they are down the aisles .. and you are just standing there? Of course they may say, well that's not my job. But that's the mentality that keeps things moving slow. It would be so nice if people just did what it takes to keep things moving. Either hire enough people OR get in there and start bagging! I remember back in the days there was a bagger at the end of each checkout aisle. A bagger and a casher! Those days are gone ...and most stores now see if they can get away with overworking the checker! Next thing you know they install self check outs! Rather than hire people and keep a system of people working they just get rid of people and have 1 person observing (like these managers were doing). What a world we are moving towards. But anyways that's what you see. I wish they would just hire bag boys and go back to the good ol days.

Sadly the economy has increased prices of course but that's not really the store's fault. PASTES Great selection of curry pastes, chili pastes, and seasoning packets for making things like Tom Kha and Papaya salad (All ranged roughly around $1-2). A selection of jarred sauces like , shrimp pastes, fried chili paste, and other sauces that were a few dollars more. COCONUT MILK/CREAM I focused on the Mae Ploy coconut cream which was $3.79 AROMATICS Aromatics like galangal, lime, and lemongrass are available in both dry powder form and fresh form. The powders ranged from $3-6). You can also get star anise either in dried bags or as a powder as well SAUCE Good selection of fish sauces and soy sauces. Large Viet Hung fish sauce - $13 I also spotted cheaper brands like Tiparos, Megachef, etc THAI CHILI POWDER! Finally. Been trying to find it at all the other Asian markets and it's been weirdly hard. I got my trusted 7oz red top container for $4.99 THAI TEA Thai tea in both canned ($3.39) and bagged instant form ($5) PRODUCE I was a bit sad at first on how small the produce section was but it turns out they actually really did have all the needed basics there. - Green papaya (they only have whole, no pre-shred) - Holy Basil in bags - Turmeric in bags - Thai chili peppers - Galangal $7/pound - Lemongrass stalks (I remember it said either $2-3 but didn't specify any further whether that meant PER stalk or per ounce or per pound, etc - Makrut ("Kaffir") lime leaves in bags (said it was $26 a pound but didnt provide a smaller, more realistic measurement - long beans - daikon - as well as a very modest collection of mainstream produce like tomatoes, onions, button mushrooms, etc CANNED Things like bamboo, including thin or thick cuts They also have my personal favorite jarred bamboo in chili oil. RAMENS They've got a small selection of ramens, also including variations of Indomie Mie Goreng ($1 per bag) and 1-2 Korean selections like Shin Ramen The sections I breezed by included oils, rice, snacks, and a few fridges with meats, eggs, desserts, frozen galangal, miso, etc. Unfortunately they didn't have the frozen precut lemongrass containers you sometimes get at Thai or Viet stores They also take card! It's a tiny tiny store with an equally tiny parking lot, so be prepared expect a full lot sometimes. I luckily found a spot but also noticed that it can be a bit of work to shimmy your car back out when you leave since they're packed so tight Definitely worth a visit though if you need this specialty of ingredients.

I expected it to be crowded because Sanamluang is incredibly popular. We were lucky to find the only open parking spot which happened to be right up front. This place is deceiving! Looks like a no nonsense place looking from the outside but it's pretty big once you get inside! They even have a seafood and meat section at the back. This is a small Market that has a little bit of everything that you're looking for from Southeast Asia. It's like a 7-Eleven, Filipino style. It's fun to look at the various items available here. You will always end up with more than just what you were looking for. I enjoy the cracker nuts, dried mangoes, and specialty dried items. Their selection of items is always changing so I like to look at what's new and on display. I will sometimes ask the front counter what just came in. The Fresh Deli, located up a small incline to the left as you enter the market, is spectacular. The flavor of the food permeates the entrance to the market. They have an incredible selection of fresh made food. It is difficult to make a decision between the different items. I asked for some help from the gentleman behind the counter. I've dealt with Christian, Gabriel and Abraham and all three are knowledgeable and helpful. He was able to explain how some of the food was prepared and the special attention that was given to each individual item. I wanted to limit myself to two items. I decided on the special marinated Beef Caldereta and the Lechon Kawali. On another trip I decided to try the Pork Tochino and the Barbecue Chicken Skewers. I can't tell you how happy I am with the flavors of the food from the deli. Everything was done to perfection. The Chicken skewers were tender and moist with a great barbecue flavor. The Toccino had a nice marinade flavor and was not too sweet. The Lechon was tender and had enough fat to give it a great flavor and texture. I have to admit the Caldereta was my favorite. Great taste, texture, and just the right spices to give it a little kick. The rice and noodles were a perfect accompaniment. All the sauces I was given added to the flavor of all the dishes. At the cash register at the front counter I paid for my items and asked about other items coming in in the near future. I found out that they are not always sure what's going to become available but always looking for something that will make their customers happy. This is truly a family establishment. I found out that everybody there is related. They definitely give exceptional service and quality merchandise, and delicious food. I look forward to coming back and trying many other items both in their market area as well as the Deli.
