An excellent choice for a bed and breakfast on the Coast! An impressive sized home that is not at all "fancy", but meticulously maintained and in immaculate condition. Richard and Ana stay onsite. After being welcomed, shown our room and given a quick tour, we only saw them again at breakfast the next morning. THE BREAKFAST: Wow, just wow. I'm a foodie so when I go somewhere to eat it better be something I can't easily replicate at home. Ana really out does herself with a multiple course breakfast. Very filling, clean eating, freaking DELICIOUS! Everything from the delicate slightly-sweet breads to the hearty main course which always includes eggs in some form, to the fresh fruit to the handmade desserts accompanying every breakfast. The coffee is safe (not too strong, not too weak, not at all bitter). They also offer loose leaf tea if coffee is not your thing. VERY HAPPY with Breakfast prepared by Ana. Breakfast is worth the trip all by itself *YUM* Their attention to detail is exhausting. There are too many amenities to list and even little snacks on tables though out the house. We had access to a full sized fridge/freezer downstairs as well as use of a microwave and toaster oven if we needed it. I can't think of a single thing that we needed; Richard and Ana have thought of everything that you might need during your stay. Arky's uses Hotel quality sheets and towels (all 100% cotton). The bed in the garden view room was incredibly comfortable (king: bamboo pillowtop mattress) with an additional bamboo mattress topper. Plenty of pillow of various soft/firmness. I wouldn't change a thing. I slept like a rock. I'm not sure how many rooms they rent out each night, but there seemed to be different couples and even an entire family staying during our time there. Never once did we hear anyone else in the house unless we left our room. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this place over staying at a local hotel; they are priced about the same. read more

We stayed at this B&B for a day on our way to Oregon as part of PNW road trip. And our only regret was it was just a day! Rooms have amazing views of the lagoon and ocean, the property and rooms were well maintained and kept clean. They had thought of everything for amenities. We were pleasantly surprised by the homemade Chinese breakfast food that was served. The hosts were so friendly and warm. Will come back again! read more

Arky's B&B is a great place to stay in this area. First of all, the location is great - to us - in that it's between Crescent City, CA and Brookings, OR. We prefer the Brookings dining options to those of Crescent City. But what the location is really about is that it's right on the water. It's kind of a little cove but you definitely get full on ocean and waves as well. If you get the #175 house, which we had, you'll love it! Don't overlook the mere privacy you have - it's your own house, for heaven's sake. Nobody walking around above you making noise. Nobody next to you while you're staying to sit out on your deck trying to enjoy the waves and the scenery. Lots of privacy. Just ignore the drive through the mobile home park and you get to a lovely group of houses. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked, the whole place is very clean and tidy. You are both comfortable and welcomed. Richard and Anna, as other reviewers have mentioned, are great hosts. A lot of nice details -- the nice tile in the bathroom, the bathroom heater, the comfortable bed with extra blankets and pillows, the well-supplied kitchen, and of course the incredible VIEW! We enjoyed seeing the water and the seals and birds both from our room and during breakfast. I know other people have mentioned breakfast but they're right, it's a great breakfast. Personally, I loved the ground pork with chili oil, the chicken and peppers, and the fried rice dishes the best, but it was only one of a series of dishes in a massive breakfast that just never stops. Oh and the pumpkin cakes we had (we visited in October) were outstanding, too. And you still get eggs and salad! And the price is more than reasonable, it's great. You really can't go wrong here. read more

This is a really cool, awesome eclectic place. Let's start with the gorgeous view. Arky's is situated at the mouth of the Smith River where it spills into the Pacific Ocean. You can see and walk along the sand and pebble shore to where the waves meet the river. Between the river and the ocean is a sand bar filled with pelicans, gulls, and many other kinds of birds. Seals sun on the bar and swim in the river, catching salmon for dinner. The water is clear, and on a warmer day, I would have gone for a swim. Beyond the bar is the ocean. We saw a couple of people line fishing off the shore. They said if you stood on the rocks wearing polarized glasses on an incoming tide, you could see the salmon running. All of their rooms have amazing views, and the sunset is spectacular. Walk back in time to the 70s when you enter the beautiful main house, which comes complete with a pool table, bowling alley and elevator (both out of order), dance floor, and mirrored bar overlooking the beautiful riverfront backyard, which has a putting green, kitchen vegetable garden, and, in case you don't want to drive, a helipad, making it perfect for destination parties and weddings. The hosts, Richard and Anna, are lovely and eager to please. They serve a large and delicious Chinese breakfast with a fresh pot of coffee per table, eggs with vegetables, a garden fresh vegetable salad, and authentic Chinese dishes like rice porridge, steamed beef, and sticky rice with pork or mango, every morning. (Please note: if you have serious food allergies, you will want to alert them in advance, preferably in Chinese, and it would probably be safer just to eat your own food.) Finally, the bed and pillows were heavenly, the shower was perfect, the room was quiet, and everything was spotless. We loved our stay at Arky's B&B, beginning with our gracious hosts guiding us to their lovely home, via text messages. It was a hairy, wet, 11 hour drive up 101 from the sf bay area, so it was comforting knowing that Richard had turned on the heater, and the door was unlocked, so we could go right in when we arrived at 1:00 am. Their home is nestled at the base of the Smith River, as it joins the Pacific Ocean. My husband and I stayed in the separate house, which is a one bedroom, and has a very comfortable king sized bed. It's large living room has 2 day beds, a TV and 2 sofa chairs with glorious ocean views. It has a small, fully-functional kitchen with a small table and 4 chairs, along with a full bathroom, which is very modern. The whole place was very clean, felt very cozy, and was so peaceful I wanted to stay forever! When we woke up the first morning, after arriving so late, we went to the main house for breakfast. What a treat! They had individual tables set up at 3 windows that overlooked the ocean. Our hosts were in the kitchen cooking up a delicious meal. It was very special and unique. Pictures attached. Richard and Ana are amazing host! They were so welcoming into their home and showed us around the home ! This really is a Gem! Great price and amazing Value. You can walk along the river and enjoy the view of the ocean! The Internet is very fast and had no problem with the connection. In the morning you get an amazing Chinese breakfast that Richard and Ana both prepare - this seriously is a must! This place is seriously awesome. We came to Crescent City with some plans to stay at one of the motels nearby, however those plans fell through and we needed to find something last minute. We found Arky's and it was so cheap and looked so amazing that we thought it couldn't possibly be true. It was. Ana and Richard were incredibly friendly, receptive and their place is great. Beautiful views of the ocean, wildlife and the nearby river make this place top notch. We visited Arky's in July. We were on an impromptu road trip up the coast, and needed a place to stay for the night. After reading the impressive Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a shot. We were not disappointed. The entire house was very clean and comfortable. Our hosts were incredibly polite and welcoming. The next morning we were treated to a delicious traditional Chinese breakfast and a lovely view. The attention to detail regarding the possible needs of the guests is impressive. The pleasing view, the immaculate landscaping, and the comfortable beds all made this a very pleasant stay. Of course, my favorite part was the breakfast. It was remarkable. The formal attention-to-detail, right down to the engraved chopsticks, made a unique, delightful experience. It is certainly not your average breakfast. But every single dish was uniquely made with a touch of homemade goodness. It does include a lot of savory lunch-like items that one wouldn't expect to have for breakfast, but it was very well made and very nourishing. Great location on the beach and you can see sea lions! We booked last minute so didn't get an ocean-facing room but there are plenty of decks and easy access to the beach. Rooms are spacious with plenty of nice touches - fresh flowers, electric fireplace, slippers, candy... Richard and Anna were extremely friendly and great hosts. A gorgeous location, stunning gardens, right on the ocean, splendid house. The owners, Richard and Ana (owners) are super nice, friendly, and accomodating. We had tea when we arrived and watched the seals and sea lions nesting on rocks that are very close to the B&B, can be seen all year. Richard has transformed the gardens. Richard told us that there would be flowers blooming all spring and summer. We are coming back! Arky's is only a half hour away, but what a luxury to have this resort-like getaway. The grounds are kept in excellent condition and Richard is keeping them that way. A very hard-working man! Ana keeps the house spotless and it is a very large house. The bedding and the towels are extra deluxe. Ana is very artistic and it shows. Her pictures, crocheted knickknacks are beautiful and tasteful. Just a great place to stay! I give it 11 out of 10 stars. We have already decided to spend at least 4 nights in the next year. Oh, and the breakfast is delicious with chinese specialities. read more
