Room was good sized, clean, quiet area, good place if you're traveling with a dog. The beds were ok, not luxury mattress of course but I slept well. TV was good sized, the phone in room didn't work, and the hair dryer was missing but we didn't have to have one. Some people need it but not us. There's a single cup coffee maker on bathroom counter & they were generous with handing out more coffee & supplies! We enjoyed our 2 nights at this place & both girls working at service desk were nice & very helpful with any questions or our needs! There is no hot tub. We had to change a lightbulb first thing when coming inside as there is no lightbulb in our lamp (we had to buy our own lightbulb). There was hair on one of the beds and in the cabinets. There are no pool towels available. There are stains on the curtains and in the bathtub. There are no blankets available or regular towels when asked for more. No body wash soup. I should not have to go to the store to get things a simple room should have. We did get discounted on our stay as it looks like they are already aware of the issues at this place. Overall, I will not be coming back. It's sketchy to sleep here as it is, and the bathtub doesn't drain. Never coming back. They said they will give us more sheets and instead we got 8 pillow covers and 2 shower curtains in place of 6 sheets. There is grass in the upstairs hallway. Could not stay here for another night so we left early. Staff are nice and gave a refund for the stay. read more

The room we reserved was not available. We ended up having to pay more to get a room. The sink knob was broken so it was hard to turn on the water without hurting my hand. No amenities. As a former housekeeper, this was an absolute disgrace and the room should have never been rented out! Blood on the bathroom wall, sink filled with water, broken box spring, caked on dirt/ dust on the hair dryer and iron along with sand still on the vanity. The swimming pool which my kids were looking forward to using was unavailable to use which we weren't given a response why. Internet was a joke! I see now why it's cheap but still doesn't give housekeepers a reason to do a half ass job on cleaning. Shame on you for calling a room clean when it clearly isn't! My question is where is your head housekeeper to check behind you making sure you are doing your job correctly??? Seems like you all need to be restrained on how to clean properly. We booked a stay here because most of the reviews said it was really clean. It's also pet friendly and we had two with us. The room was really dirty. There were spills on the floors, bedside table, and walls. Splatters on the bed frame and a questionable brown stain inside the lamp shade. Cobwebs in every corner, dead bugs on the walls and ceiling. There was a previous tenants nose piercing on the bathroom floor, the "clean" white towels had marks on every one. read more

I'm not gonna drop a 1 star here. I felt like the front desk staff did their best to accommodate us on our stay, the price was good but it's fairly obvious the rest of the staff needs more direction. The owner needs to see what they have, and do what they can to bring this place up to a 5 star hotel. It could honestly be the best hotel in Brookings with some work. So we got a family room. This is basically 2 rooms with 3 beds. A room with a larger king sized bed for mom and dad, and the main room/entrance with 2 queen sized beds for the kids. The beds themselves were not bad. At home I sleep on a Serta Memory Foam mattress with a topper, a $4000 mattress. I'm not expecting a cheap motel to offer that. Our check in time was 3pm, but room service did not have us ready until 4ish? Due to the inconvenience the front desk clerk gave us a discount. Generally speaking though, the hotel is in disrepair. There's a conference center that's closed down. The hot tub is boarded up. The pool is not heated. There's also a on-site restaurant that is also closed. As said, I see this all as potential. Brookings gets a lot of wind and solar, they could heat this pool for free. The restaurant could be serving food and offering room service. The conference center could have a gym. Here is where I get confused though. Our room was cheap. I won't state the price, but let's say it was appropriately priced given the conditions. The toilet in the room was tiny, and an ADA compliant height. As pictured, there was black mold behind the toilet. There was threshhold missing between the carpet (which was really old) and the tiling by the sink, just bare metal sticking up. The baseboard tiling in the shower was janky, and the tub itself had brown stains on it. At first I thought it was sand that wasn't rinsed. Finally the soap tray was just drilled on using deck screws (this will eventually cause water to seep in the walls and cause mold there, if it hasn't already) We couldn't close the door to the grownups room. The frame was bent, almost as if someone had kicked the door in at some point. Finally, the rooms have no microwaves. Mini fridges, but no microwaves. Exterior up to our room there was a few things that seemed to suffer the same lack of maintenance. There was no-slip carpet installed all over, and at the bottom of the stairs was what looked like a giant hole in the carpet. One of the hand railings was missing on the stairwell. On another stairwell, instead of using grip-tape they use roofing shingles. Out back I could see that the downspouts for the rain gutters were missing. There was also a homeless man that spent the night in the parking lot, security there is pretty laxed. It pains me to give reviews this low, as the price was decent, but mostly appropriate for what was delivered. As said, some paint, tearing up that nasty carpet, stair hand rails, various fixes here and there and this place *could* charge a lot more. At first when we checked in and got to our room we were pleasantly surprised and were loving it. No microwave in the room - okay, that's a drag but we can deal. The beds were comfortable and the AC worked just fine, and the water pressure and heat was great. Kids loved the pool. But - the TV didn't work. Sound, no video. I called front desk and even though it was evening she tried to make it work for us but unfortunately with no extra rooms we couldn't move, so we had no working TV all night. Not a problem, I asked for a discount because of this. When I went to confirm with morning clerk I was told it was a known issue. So a known issue with the room and the TV, that we were not made aware of before checking in and paying. Management needs to talk to owner in order to see if we could possibly get a discount back on our rate. Not happy with this, at all. I'll be reaching out to hotel to ensure that we get some sort of discount back due to their false representation of their room. Room was also recently renovated, as evidenced by the paint splatters on the ground. There was also a hole in the wall and missing light sconce. Zero places to sit besides the beds. The floors were dirty and the deadlock on the door didn't engage all the way. The front desk clerks, though, were amazingly nice and tried their hardest to accommodate but it looks like their hands were tied by management. Not happy. read more

Firstly, the manager's attitude when asking her simple questions after a long drive was very much not appreciated or needed. Second, the room was disgusting and I mean yuck. Wish I could upload photos. I would say the dirtiest hotel I've stayed in in a long time and I've stayed in many cheap hotels while traveling. The bedding is pretty and was clean I will say that but the mattresses were hard and very old and frame falling apart. There was poo smeared on outside of toilet and tub. Brown chunky stuff around sink edges , floors so dirty it turned my daughter's feet black just walking to bathroom upon arrival and taking shoes off. I had to lay towels down going from bed to bathroom bc the floor was so bad, I tried to use a rag and spray but it wasn't cutting it. The paint in room is flaking and chipping throughout the room and squishy fluid bubbles under the paint. Water stains and mold all around the ac. Under beds have not been cleaned. Nice thick layer of sticky dust in shelves don't put clothes or bags in closet I think there are some long term tenants here or something bc the amount of noise and lack of attention to noise all night by manager is questionable. Make sure your car is locked, some women from another room were dumpster diving and yelling and climbing on cars at 2am. Homeless peaking in windows. outlets are old potential fire hazard. My family and I had a great stay at the Brookings Inn Resort over the weekend. It allowed us to have 2 beach days in a row with our little sons. The room was clean and staff were friendly. The name here should be "Hotel 5.5." as you walk into the dated rooms, you'll notice part of the blistered drywall needs repair, many corners need repairs. new paint is needed throughout. the beds, and the dressers and the table and chairs are stained & very outdated. This is your basic, no-frills. It's old. It looks like they don't have a maintenance man because it's obvious that there are numerous things inside and outside of the room that need to be taken care of. They said it was not an essential service and we could try to download an app. We we're traveling with dogs and an 11 year old going without tv for a night at a price of $250/night was ridiculous. We will not be returning. Spend at least an hour trying to figure out why volume on tv wouldn't work. Tv and remote had restricted capabilities. Looking for that low-class stay without the fear of being shanked? Look no further than here! My partner reserved a room here for a night, after having some fond memories of it in his childhood years. The place must have went to new owners or something, because I don't see how any memories of this place would be "fond". First experience, the outside of the place looks like it's cheap. I thought to myself "Ok, maybe the inside has some redeeming qualities" as we drove to park in front of our room. We caught sight of the pool and jacuzzi space, which at this point would better serve as a storage room than a relaxing spa experience. It was closed and drained anyways because 'vid, but it's not like I'd use it anyways if it were functional... We walk over to our room and I audibly laughed at the door numbers, which are pieces of paper taped to the door with a couple pieces of packaging tape. Can you say..."extravagant"!? Anyways, still trying to give the place a chance...walk in and see a stained (or dirty? Scared to find out) table, a tub with some grime/mold, stained and torn duvet covers and towels...the whole cheap motel gambit. I checked for bed bugs, there were none. I broke out my disinfecting wipes and went to town treating the remote and some other things. At that point, felt too invested to go anywhere else and it was only one night. I didn't feel unsafe, just kinda grossed out. Sheets looked and smelt clean so I figured I'd live to see another day if I slept in them. Saw all the ratings about the dirty floors and opted into wearing socks or shoes at all times when walking around the room. On a positive note, they did have a large tv so you could just get invested into some show and pretend you're not in a questionable "resort". Worst Motel I have ever stayed in. I booked online. Our room was dirty, mold on the bathroom wall, walls, floors etc were dirty. Jacuzzi was out of order, pool was dirty. The staff, including the manager were rude. Our room didn't get cleaned the second day, I complained but got a "nothing I can do about it the maids are all gone." So when I checked out I asked to see the manager, I told her my room didn't get cleaned, she swore and yelled about the lousy people who work there. So then she looked through some book and said, "you didn't want it cleaned, there was a do not disturb sign up all day " I said, no there wasn't because our room didn't have one. We get in an argument she is calling me a liar. I asked for some sort or refund, she said no, she can't. I said get someone on the phone who can. She said get out of my office, I am calling the police, I said what for? She said to remove me from the premises. I left, we are driving out, the police show up. I can't wait to talk to them. Seriously so filthy! There was no part of our room that wasn't dirty. Stayed here because we got evacuated from our home due to wildfires. Had to take a day off work and go buy cleaning supplies just to be able to tolerate the room. Mold in the sink and bathtub. The mini fridge did not appear to have ever been wiped out. The floor was filthy, accidentally walked on the floor in only socks and they were brown from dirt. The dresser drawers had hair and dirt in them. Used an entire container of Clorox wipes and had to buy a Swiffer to clean the floors. read more

I think I'm the only multi star review! After a drive and play on the beach in warm weather we just didn't want to drive home. Found this place on hotels.com, called and booked immediately. The only other place available with a pet friendly room was $250 a night, I paid $107'ish. So, for what it is worth, great lighting outside as a female walking the dog at 1230pm to potty I felt very safe. The room we stayed in appears newly renovated with vinyl planking throughout, which is great for a dog and the sand. I saw no indication of bugs like other reviewers. The bed was fine nothing to write home about. Not having brought ANY items for an overnight stay I was pleasantly surprised to have body wash, shampoo, lotion, a hair dryer etc.. Being pet friendly would be The best thing I can say about this property as a whole. This place is pretty dumpy. Luckily we checked in early, because the sheets on both beds in both the rooms we rented had not been changed. They had only made up after others had slept in them. We contacted the housekeeping staff and they put new bedding on all four beds. The lead housekeeper actually threw away a couple of blankets and bedspreads that had been on the beds when we were arrived. The rooms we rented looked to be recently renovated which is a plus, but the maid service left us with a bad experience. The inside pool would be a plus but again it is very run down and out of repair. Pool side chairs were broken and left in place. read more

The hotel itself seemed clean enough. Mostly. The hole in the wall that was forehead sized or the soap holder in the shower that was pulled from the wall or the toilet seat that was half broken off gave the otherwise clean appearance an overly fake feel. And the other clientele are what top off the one star rating. We're pretty understanding of others who are traveling, things aren't always what they seem. To say that this hotel is worse than a Motel 6 is still giving it more credit than it deserves. Where do I begin? Maybe a pros and cons list will help. Pros: It was available. The woman that checked us in was kind, courteous, and welcoming. They use refillable containers for their soap and even offer shower gel, shampoo, and lotion. They are pet friendly. The bedding is clean. Cons: The room is dirty and smells like cigarettes. They were late checking us in. We were told to wait for keys, we did for an extra 45 minutes, to only be told to wait longer. The towels have stains. The walls have stains. There are no exhaust fans in the bathrooms so you have to open the window...so does everybody else. You can see them clearly and they can definitely see you. There is visible mold in the bathroom. There is so much water damage in the bathroom that I am afraid the tub will fall through the floor. It looks like someone repeatedly punched the fridge in the room. There are cigarette butts in the door thresholds. The outlets, the ones that work, are not grounded so anything that plugs into the wall falls out of the wall. We were not informed that there is no AC, fans, or even heat (not that we need it as it is mid July and 85F outside). When contacting the front desk about a fan that we could use, we obviously ruined the curt woman's night by asking. There is an O'Rileys across the street that apparently on Saturday nights they have rally cars do donuts and peel-out in the parking lot...for hours. We were charged $175 for ONE NIGHT in an obviously outdated, price-gouging, zero-effort establishment. At least the fan they lent us drowns out the noise of children running in the parking lot, throwing ice at cars, and barking dogs in other guests rooms. Save your money and sleep in your car, or on the beach, or literally any other hotel. read more

I was very disappointed!!!!! We arrived here after Best Western (and similar quality establishments) were full. This hotel is in BAD NEED of a MAJOR renovation!!! EVERYTHING is in disrepair! Their breakfast (and breakfast area) are very disappointing! Some amenities in the room didn't work (light, deadbolt, no microwave or shelf for cable receiver). Total dump. The first room we got keys for had dirty sheets. We should have taken a refund and left, but we were tired and ready to be off the road so we accepted a second room. The beds were clean but the tub was filthy, actual dirt in it, and shampoo left running down the side. The mini fridge had someone else's old Blizzards in it. There was a hole above the shower in the ceiling that we stuffed with TP before using the restroom and it was tricky to flush the toilet. The pool roof leaked and all the chairs were wet. It's old and run down and the housekeeping staff doesn't do a good job at all. Older is fine, clean is essential. read more

Well, where to begin... The website is incredibly deceptive, and made the place look much cleaner than it actually was. Not only was the spa moldy, but the pool had plenty of crud as well. Upon check in I asked for a pool key and towels, but was told that no one had brought the clerk any, but she would go get some as soon as possible. About 20 minutes later I returned to the office to ask for a functional second room key and check on towels, and found the clerk very absorbed in her Facebook. She told me that she hasn't had a chance to get towels, and to just use the ones from my room, promising to bring some by later. It was almost ten pm when she showed up. We had checked in at four. Overall, it was an okay place to spend the night if you are just passing through, but there is much better for less down the road. read more

I was not expecting much out of this "resort" but dear lord, it was worse than I ever could have imagined. The walls were shiny white with no art of them and the room was visibly dirty. It felt like a prison cell. There was some kind of burn mark on the sink and the sheets looked so poor in quality that they were sheer and you could see the mattress. We lucky had our giant sleeping bag with us and slept in that. I wore my sandals in the shower because the bathroom was disgusting. There as half a roll of toilet paper and no extra to be found. We needed up staying at this motel because we got to our camp site really late and we're too tired to set up our tent. I can't believe this place has the nerve to charge $140 for a room. My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Brookings Inn. The price was in our budget. Our room was very clean and spacious. Furnishings and the TV were very nice. The bed was nice and comfortable. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We slept great and it was very peaceful. I highly recommend Brookings inn. read more

Ok. I really wasn't ever going to post this, but I know tourist season is coming up and I feel I have to so potential guests can get the whole scoop. I stayed here a few months ago with my very clean dog. Yes, it was a dog room. No, I didn't expect to be staying in a kennel. It was filthy. It smelled like dirty socks and there were the same issues others have so eloquently stated. The ultimate horror though was when I woke up in the middle of the night, turned on the light, and saw two roaches scurrying underneath a picture. I sat up in bed the rest of the night on roach duty. Of course, I asked for a refund the next morning, and was readily given one. The person I talked to did not seem to be overly concerned about taking care of this awful problem. No urgency. So, fellow travelers, please beware. They may have sprayed by now, I don't know. I just felt I needed to share this. read more
