Planning a milestone birthday--especially a 30th--should feel exciting, celebratory, and special. Unfortunately, my experience working with Arlington Taphouse was anything but. I reached out to the owner, DJ, on July 25th to begin coordinating a birthday celebration for my boyfriend, which occurred on September 13. While I did receive an initial response, communication was inconsistent from the very beginning--a red flag I now realize should have not been overlooked. After not hearing back for several days, I had to follow up just to confirm my interest and finally scheduled a meeting a full week later. From that point forward, I made every effort to be clear and communicative. I submitted the requested food order two weeks in advance--as per DJ's own instructions--and included the selected drink package. Oddly, I never received a response or confirmation for either, despite the approaching event date. As the week of the party arrived and I still hadn't heard back, I followed up with a phone call, during which we agreed to meet at 12 PM on the day of the event to finalize preparations. We discussed everything: start time (6:30 PM), room setup, food timing (7 PM), and other last-minute logistics. When I arrived at 12 PM as planned, DJ was nowhere to be found. I asked a staff member, who informed me he might arrive around 3 or 4 PM. No call, no text, no communication--despite him clearly having my contact information. Even more disappointing, the party room was still dirty from a previous event: garbage had been left behind, streamers were still scattered on the floor, and the bathroom was in noticeably poor condition. We had to clean up the mess ourselves before the party could even begin--my sister ended up vacuuming and sweeping the floors because they were so disgusting. I later returned 30 minutes before the event began, only to be met by DJ himself--who, instead of greeting me or offering any apology for the confusion, immediately launched into an unnecessarily harsh and defensive tone. He insisted the party was supposed to start at 6 PM (not 6:30, which we had clearly discussed), and expressed frustration that food was already ready--despite the fact that we had planned for it to be served at 7 PM. When I reminded him that we were supposed to meet at noon, he instead complained about being tired from working late and having a lot to do--though apparently not enough to communicate a single update or courtesy message. The way I was spoken to--as a paying customer, hosting a major event--was nothing short of disrespectful. Demeaning, defensive, and completely lacking in accountability. To make matters worse, during the event itself, staff members were openly vaping and drinking while working, which I found incredibly unprofessional--especially while hosting a private party. It was yet another sign of the lack of boundaries and standards here. While the party itself went smoothly, it was difficult to ignore the poor treatment I had experienced behind the scenes. To their credit, DJ and the host were polite to our guests during the event and offered complimentary shots to us hosts and a discount on the final bill. That said, basic courtesy should never come at the cost of basic respect. No one--especially someone planning a meaningful celebration for a loved one--should be made to feel like an inconvenience at their own event. Ultimately, while the venue and staff were passable the night of, I would not recommend Arlington Taphouse for event hosting. A milestone like a 30th birthday only happens once in life, which makes it all the more unfortunate that this is how it had to be remembered. read more

We had a wonderful server named Shu. She was kind and attentive. We ordered drinks. Our appetizers were delicious. We each ordered a sandwich - very tasty. I took home about half of my sandwich and fries. Years ago my husband and I had eaten there. It has obviously changed owners since then. I'm glad to see this local place is a nice destination for drinks and dinner. read more

whoa! where do I start... well the place is not what pictures make it look like, it definitely is a hole in the wall (which is not bad for playing pool). Went there to play pool and was very disappointe. Only 2 Pool tables are old and too close together, there was group playing next to us that were very rude, played music in a different language all night (or the hour we could stand to be there). which the music we could take that was not even what cause us never to go back. REALLY, They just gave me a bad vibe from start, we walked in and it felt like they were trying to convince us to leave no greeting, just told "if you want food kitchen is closed" - exactly words. The service was honestly terrible -- the bartender seemed more interested in chatting with friends than actually serving customers. It took almost 20 minutes just to get a simple drink, and when it finally arrived, it tasted watered down. The place was also way too loud, not in a fun "good vibe" way, just chaotic and uncomfortable. Tables were sticky, and the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned all night and people were doing things on the counter. Definitely won't be coming back. I have been in there multiple times with friends & had to wait for a bartender to finish their conversation (that can be put on hold) or finish an order (which that I understand). I went in after work the other night & sat down & waited patiently for either bartender or even the owner to ask what I would like or even say "I will be with you". NEVER once did that happen in 20 minute of me sitting there, not either of the 2 bartenders behind the bar nor the owner. NOBODY behind that bar did or said anything at all, but sitting at the bar I did notice that the men's bathroom was packed like sardines.. I wish I would've looked at the reviews before I stopped by this place to grab some lunch. I asked the bartender what the fastest thing on the menu would be and she said a cheeseburger and fries, 40 minutes later she hands me the cheeseburger, and it has no cheese! My honey had a burger that was ordered medium rare and came well done with canned mushrooms. Fries were double fried. I mentioned the quality to the server and she said the owner was cooking. It's amazing that this establishment has been open for as long as it has been. Best suggestion for the place is to milk the dive bar reputation and eliminate the dinner portion. We had a group of six waiting for pizzas and wings and a worker came over and yelled at us for coming in and ordering water?? Turns out the guy that yelled at us was the owner.. Afterwards the server came over and apologized for his being so Greek and Rude. Here's the kicker, the place was practically dead. Also we weren't sure if $22 pizzas were tomestone or Jacks pizzas. This is a great place if you're a bar-fly. They have TVs for watching sports, video games and friendly bartenders. They do have some booth seating if you want to eat lunch or dinner, but it's not a place to drive out of your way just for the food If you're hungry and in the area though, don't hesitate to stop in for a meal. The 'restaurant' part is really a minor section because it's the bar area that takes up the majority of the place. And they are known for being a late night bar (4am). So if you've got some friends who want to drink and watch the game and maybe have food, this is good place to do that. Or if it's 3 am and you're just not ready to go home yet, this place is probably packed with late night partiers with the same idea. read more

Simple advice...go somewhere else. I live less than a half mile from this place and REALLY wanted to like it, to make it my local hangout and watch games with my buddies. It looks kinda cool from the outside and I could easily walk home if needed. Been there several times, each time was turned off more and more. I came here once on a Sunday around noon to watch football. The bartender looked really annoyed when I asked him to turn on the game (really??) Like most other reviews, food is at best mediocre, even for bar food. The service (for non-regular customers) is non-existent, and the employees really don't care what you think. Went here because yelp suggested this place and it was an awful experience. I get that this place is a bar but most bars that serve food have decent menu, this menu has like 5 items to choose from. We got the appetizer sampler to start with and it was pretty good so I am thinking okay I judged the place too hard by the menu. Then our food came before it got to the table I knew it was not going to be good. I ordered the 8oz Steak Sandwich cooked medium. The bread was burnt to a crisp (my guess is that they use a pizza over to toast the bread) the steak was over cooked and had no condiments, the fries it was served with were okay. My husband ordered the chicken melt, one of his bread bread pieces were burnt and the other one was not even toasted. My mother-in-law ordered the Patty Melt if you can call it that it was two pieces of white bread (untoasted) with a hamburger, American cheese, lettuce and tomato in between. The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because the bar tender was the only one working that day and was very attentive to us and very friendly. read more

This place is a low key gem. It doesn't look like much but there are some decent assets here. The TVs are loaded with deep sports packages so request any game you want. There are pool tables and a jukebox. It has a secluded gaming room with slots. Stop in for a burger or my personal favorite the BLT club sandwich. read more

My wife, son (6 years old) and I visited The Crave during Lent to try their fish fry and boy were we disappointed! When we walked in, everyone turned and stared, it didn't feel like a very family friendly type of place. We were greeted by the server and sat down quickly. The fish was hot, but mediocre at best and my son's grilled cheese had mold on the bread! We told the server and he apologized and took it back to the kitchen immediately. We definitely weren't expecting to have to pay for his kid's meal, but the waiter said the owner is a real SOB about giving free food, so he took off our 2 diet cokes instead. The ONLY time the owner came by our table was when we were walking out the door and all he said was, "We'll make it up next time and give him a free grilled cheese." What?!?!?! Does he really think there will be a "next time"?!?!? Here's a FREE lesson in customer service: Take care of your customers, keep them happy and they'll be back. Oh well, I wopuld have wrote it off to the risk you take when trying new places with Restaurant.com. But they added insult to injury! When I showed my $5 off certificate on my phone, a look of dread came on the waitress's face as she explained th owner won't let her accept them on the phone (they had to be pre-printed). When i suggested that they need to indicate that restriction in their offer she said she knows. So I dropped $18 including tip (it wasn't the waitress fault) for a horrible lunch. The lesson: When you go someplace for lunch and there is only on customer at the bar, maybe there is a reason! My message to the owner: Maybe the booze crowd from 2-4 am carries the place but if you want to understand why your losing your shirt the other 22 hours everyday, look no farther than your mirror. read more

I had a restaurant.com certificate and since this place isn't too far from my house - I figured I'd give it a shot. I went around lunchtime and didn't order any alcohol so I won't comment on the bar/bartender (she seemed nice enough), but I have to say the place made me uncomfortable from the moment I stepped foot in. The place was dark with only a handful of people there. Nothing I didn't expect from a dive bar. I went to pick up my order and was given my total. Imagine my surprise when the price they rang up was about $5 MORE than what was advertised on their online menu....umm...ok..sounds a little weird, but we'll go with that. After all, I had a $5 restaurant.com certificate that would at least make up the difference and I was in a hurry... ...Yeah...apparently, not so much.... when I went to give them the certificate, I was advised that it was meant for dine in only use. Well...it didn't say dine in only and it would have been nice to know that beforehand - so I mentioned that to the manager (who by now had been called over to handle things). Instead of making me more comfortable, she made it worse - really pushing to say that she didn't want to take the certificate and that it was meant for dining in the restaurant, etc etc. OK - well if that's what it should be, it should have been noted on the certificate and I'd know not to go when I was running errands during lunchtime and only had time to pick up my food before running back to work. Reluctantly she let me use my certificate (probably because I repeatedly pointed out that no where on the certificate does it say you had to dine in). By now, she'd succeeded in making me severely uncomfortable and late for work... I was annoyed enough that I wanted to ditch the food, take my certificate back, exchange it with restaurant.com, and go somewhere else - like McDonald's... but since she caved and actually honored the certificate - I went ahead and paid for my meal. You would think the surprises stopped there...No... That's when I found out about the $10 minimum for credit card purchases (of course I didn't expect that so had no cash on me) and then proceeded to get charged a $1 surcharge for the privilege of paying for my meal with a credit card (since my meal was $8.50 and NOT $10). It's a shame really - the food was pretty decent, but had my expectations been managed prior to going there - they would have saved a lot of grief (mine and theirs). As it stands, I probably won't go back -- as there's nothing completely noteworthy about the food and.... with the number of restaurants in the area...I can always go elsewhere.... read more

Crave has a special place in my heart. I spent the wee hours of my 21st birthday here. It's the only place in the area that I know that is open until 4. It's also right down the street from my parent's house. = Joy. It's in one of those awkward retail locations where nothing really sticks, but this has been around for 10+ years now and I'm pretty impressed. It's nothing fancy, nothing amazing, but the pizza was great the last time I had it, the drinks flow like no body's business, and there are different seating areas that break up the space. Whenever we are done with some bar or restaurant and it's kind of late, we look at each other and say, "Crave?" even if we're not in AH. It definitely is awesome. read more

Crave begs me to hate it. Every time I go in things have changed. No American Express, $10 Minimum credit card purchase, no it's $15, no it's $20. No thanks. The place is filthy and you go home smelling like smoke even though you've been sitting inside the whole night. The owner doesn't seem to really care about customer service only finding ways to irritate the patrons and his workers. I'm the only person in the bar and you're seriously not going to let me change the channel? Normally I would give a shit hole like this one star but I actually like the bartenders and wait staff. They're fun people and as long as you're not there past 11PM they make the experience semi-tolerable. After 11 no one can save you. Trashy is a great description for this place, not because it's a dive bar, but the patrons that were there were acting trashy (not necessarily by appearance): rude, loud, and obnoxious. I was ordering shots for a buddy of mine, and while the bartender was really awesome to me, the guys at the bars were glaring at us, one started giving me crap. The place just looks like it never gets maintained and just looks like someone house just gutted down to the wooden frames and horribly painted. Makes you feel worse than in someone's trashed basement. Prices for beers were mediocre, shots and anything hard was steep, more than I cared to spend here. We avoided the food since it looked more like there would be some kind of pestilence on it. I can dig a dive bar but this is worse in all aspects than the dirtiest and nastiest bar I've been to in Chicago. Called in an order for pick-up only to find out the prices online are incorrect. Each item is $2-$5 dollars more in reality. The owner didn't bother coming out to apologize and instead of honoring the prices that are posted online, the best he could do was take $5 off the check, meaning I still overpaid by $5. Seems like the online prices not matching has been an issue for months (as read in these reviews) yet the management doesn't care to rectify it. To make matters worse, mediocre food. Nachos were burnt, stale, with cold, old, ground beef and barely of it at that. Literally threw away $40 worth of food. Don't bother going unless you want to overpay for subpar food. read more

I've dined here a number of times, bringing new people and introducing them to the restaurant. My past experiences here were pleasant, and I would have given it a 4 star rating. This time, however, was bad enough that I'm writing a review on Yelp. My hubby and I went on a Saturday for an early dinner, and there was only 1 other table with customers there. We chose The Crave since I had a restaurant.com certificate and had really enjoyed their skirt steak sandwich. We ordered the saganaki and it was outstanding. I ordered the skirt steak sandwich -- medium (no bread) and hubby ordered the fish tacos. Our server appeared to be a new server, and kept forgetting to bring us basics like silverware and napkins. Hubby's tacos came out first and looked great. We waited another 5 minutes for my steak to arrive, and when it did it was charred. It was VERY well done inside, and I reluctantly sent it back (after flagging down the waiter). The next steak that came out was also charred on the outside and RAW inside. It was cold and had a disgusting flavored seasoning (not the usual seasoning). It was inedible. Since I apparently annoyed the owner by sending back the first steak, I didn't send this one back and left it on the plate. When the server came to clear our plates, he saw the uneaten steak and didn't say anything. I showed him my restaurant.com certificate on the phone and he took it back to process. He returned and told me the owner wouldn't accept it because it wasn't printed out. REALLY?!? I've used my certificates there before from my phone with no problem. So, we paid over $40 for fish tacos, saganaki and 1 drink. I will not return here and do not recommend anyone else to dine here. read more

Went there to try the Friday Night Fish Fry. The food was good, and food prices seemed reasonable. Drink prices are not as reasonable as the food prices, not outrageous, but still a little pricey. We went around 7PM on a Friday, so it wasn't too loud, but it looks like it has the potential to get quite noisy. I don't have young children, but I don't think I'd bring them here. We've been trying the Fish Fry's in the area, and this one is middle of the road. The fish and cole slaw were good. Service was good. The only driveway in is on Rand Rd. I did't see one on Hintz Road (maybe there was a driveway there, and I didn't see it.. Some other reviews were not good, but I thought Crave was OK. But I would never bring my Mom here. read more

I've had better experiences than the other reviewers, but it's still a dive. Food is nothing special, but it's fine for bar food. Contrary to a few of the reviews, I've actually had a very friendly bartender a few times. The clientelle is assorted. Friends and I have been hit on by an older trucker who lived with his mom, a pair of guys who didn't speak English and a couple of attractive, intelligent guys. There's young, old, trashy, ghetto and everything in between. A lot of people are regulars -- they come in and call all the bartenders by name. In my experience, it's pretty quiet until midnight or 1 a.m. I've been told most suburban bars aren't open until 4 a.m., so this is a popular post-2 a.m. destination. They have a couple of pool tables and some arcade games, along with all the TVs turned to sporting events. Crave gets points for having the most conversation-worthy arcade game I've ever seen... a claw-drop game into a tank of live lobsters! read more

The bar hostess called me a Fucking Indian! Beware my fellow friends. This place is racist. All I did was order salad and and mozzarella sticks. She wrote on the screen 'Toss the Salad'. The next sentence I saw was Fucking Indian. I am not still sure what I ordered that made her write this sentence. When I confronted her, she lied. I've always been very proud to say that that Americans don't lie. I suppose I can't really say that anymore, proudly.
