Armadillo Den is one of Austin's best low-key hangout spots, with three acres is South Austin awesome. A friend and I came here to watch a Texas Football game on the 13 foot LED wall. The vibe is relaxed, spacious, and unapologetically fun, with tons of outdoor seating, yard games, and a crowd that always feels friendly and laid-back. Parking here is somewhat of a nightmare. They added paid parking options but you have to be careful because you will be towed if you park in the wrong location. They have 5 food trucks on site with great variety, whether you're craving tacos, burgers, or late-night comfort food. Drinks are reasonably priced, lines move quickly, and the bartenders keep things efficient even when it's busy. I ordered several of the painkiller which was a frozen rum coconut drink that was very tasty. What really makes Armadillo Den stand out is the atmosphere. It's lively without being overwhelming, dog-friendly, and easy to stay for hours without realizing how much time has passed. Whether you're watching sports on the big screens, playing cornhole, or just enjoying a drink under the lights, it's an easy place to feel at home. If you're looking for a chill Austin staple with good drinks, great food options, and a fun crowd, Armadillo Den is a great option.

My friend Angela and I decided on strawberry margaritas. Yum! I did have one Dillo Water which is Armadillo Den's version of a Cucumber water. I liked that they had a flavored THC seltzer as an option over alcohol. I love the food truck options here! 313 Pizza and Los Danzantes Tacos were both delicious. Service was friendly and the ambiance here is unparalleled. Definitely a place I'd take people when they come to visit me in South Austin!

Visiting from out of town for F1 weekend and our Airbnb was located in South Austin, which was conveniently a 5 minute drive from Armadillo Den. We ended up liking this place so much we went 3 times in like a week since it was so close! Some nights are really chill, and just vibing to the live music is super fun and just enjoying a few beers with food truck food. Other nights are really packed and fun and you see a lot of big groups out and about in the area. Also watching football here was really enjoyable. The drink selection is really solid, lots of beers and a few cocktails. The bartenders are really fast so there wasn't much of a wait. Surprisingly their alternative to a espresso martini was actually really good. Love seeing all of the dogs that come out as well, and having that outdoor space for people to gather is just really special. Next time I'm in Austin I'll definitely come back!

Some nights you party, other nights you just chilllllllllllll. It's your friend's birthday and he lives only a few blocks away from Armadillo Den. It was my first time going, but I love a good open-air outdoor patio bar. That's why places like Radio are always a go-to on my list. Unlike Radio off Manchaca, Armadillo Den has plenty of parking, but you have to get lucky if you don't want to pay. The front lot is free, but their secondary overflow lot is $15. Don't let the cost of parking ruin your expectations because parking sucks in Austin, period. If you have love in your heart, parking is easy. They also offer 10% off the tab if you rideshare, so consider that if you're nearby and wanting to visit. They ID you at the door after 6 pm. There's a sign that tells you if you have an evil dog, they are not allowed. People's evil dogs are my enemy. Inside, there is plenty of space to sit outside with a cute and small indoor area where the bar is located. There are five food trucks with different cuisines and live music bumping. Inside, they have plenty of beers on tap from locals like Pinthouse and 512, as well as your domestics like Yuengling and Michelob. There are also plenty of bottles and cans. They have a great list of cocktails, mocktails, and margaritas as well. They currently have a Nitro Carajillo on tap (currently one of my favorite cocktails), so I drank two of those as well as a canned Gatorade to get my electrolytes up. They also happen to sell smokes here? The environment just feels perfect to bum a cig at, so it makes sense they have 'em. The bartender suggested to just Uber Eats them because of the markup, but when you want a drunk cig you'll pay whatever price you can for some Reds. It's an overall cool place. Plenty of seating, tons of TVs, and generally just a good vibe. A cool place to catch a game, but an even better place to just chilllllll. RIYL: A bar that feels like your uncle's country backyard mixed with Little Woodrow's and you don't have a crazy ass dog that's gonna scare the people around you.

One thing about me is I freaking love Armadillo Den. One of the best bars in Austin. It's a bit of a drive south but once you arrive it's magical. I always enjoy the live music and great beer selection, plus they have some custom cocktails too. They're not fancy cocktails, but for the non-beer folks there are a few solid options beyond just vodka sodas. I had to wait a little for a drink, but the bartenders moved fast and kept things moving. Great food truck options to pick from as well! They've got a handful of outdoor games like giant Jenga, mega beer pong and the hoop string game you can play at your table. It's seriously the best time and I love all the dogs that come and enjoy the fun too!!

Armadillo Den is perfect spot for drinks, sports, live music, and great company! They have a full bar, food trucks on site, and a couple of arcade games. They have plenty of outdoor seating and comfortable chairs near the fire pits. The staff is very cool, from the door to the bar everyone is helpful and kind. The parking is limited but they offer a discount on drinks if you Uber (show bartender the rec

I love that this place is so close to my house. The only reason it got four stars is due to parking. The parking lot is tiny. I don't know where people park if they don't get a spot. There is a shopping center across the street but Manchaca is a busy road. I don't want to cross that on foot? They have mister fans and lots of seating. There is even a fenced in dog park and an open field for dogs. I did not get anything from the food trailers but my friends did and it looked great. They have a giant screen for game watching. There was a live band playing as well! Give this place a try. You'll be glad you did!

I thought this place was really cute! They have several food trucks to choose from. This burger from Biggies was really juicy, tender, and flavorful. They have cornhole and several camp style chairs and tables to sit at. They also have a big screen to watch games. The area is outdoors and very spacious with tons of seating. Dogs welcome. They offer some non alcoholic drinks too. Service was typical.

I feel like this place is the Katy Trail Ice House of Austin! It's mainly a giant gravel/dirt patio with a bunch of picnic tables. Great for bringing your dog! I came on a rainy day, so we were in one of the 10 tables that were under the main building awning. Definitely wasn't that busy when I visited, but I'm pretty sure it was because of the rain. They also have TVs to watch sports. The drinks were good and they have a pretty large selection of cocktails. They don't serve food, but there are 3 food trucks that you can order from - BBQ, pizza, and American food. Overall, good vibes & good times!

A few friends and I decided to visit the Armadillo Den on a Saturday evening around 8PM. We were lucky to find a parking spot in their lot which is very small as someone was leaving right as we arrived. For only being 8PM, it was surprisingly crowded! We started at the bar and were quickly helped with our drink orders. After receiving our drinks, we walked around and tried to find seating but with how crowded it was.. we had to wait awhile. They had live music playing, firepits going with folding sports chairs around them and dim lighting - all nice! They also had food trucks on site which had some delicious food options! This is a nice spot with a casual atmosphere for a laid back evening out.

Ask the Community - Armadillo Den

    Are Kids allowed?

Their kid friendly hours are 2-6pm Monday through Wednesday, noon to 6pm Thursday and Friday, and noon to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday

    Is there a happy hour?

If there is, then their drinks are expensive af to begin with. I was a little sticker shocked for how much my week drinks were.

Can somebody explain to me why an infant would not be allowed into the facility with their parents? We drove 30 minutes and got here to be turned away because it is 21+. If you feed me something about TABC, it's not going to fly. I'm well versed.

This entire place feels like a cash grab following the mezcal trend. It's positioned as being a tequila/mezcal spot but their drinks are more basic than cocktails I can order at the airport. When I asked questions about the mezcal they use and offer the bartenders replies were always dealt with either annoyance and limited info or just an "I don't know." Plus it's $$$ you tip on top of the tip they already add but say nothing about? The basic cocktails that are known as Mexican street vendor drinks (not supposed to be $$$) can cost you over $20 alone! Then to be shady about tipping ... cash grab without a good experience. The there's the atmosphere... very limited parking shared with MANY other more busy bars, super loud inside because of no soft surfaces, and the worst part of all... the bench seats are built just tall enough that unless you're super tall, you'll have to sit at the edge of the bench and actively practice good posture. This more than the other things makes me want to leave immediately. You designed a bar to be pretty but in no way functional to its use. It's been a while since my last visit and honestly I chalked all this up to Austin's trend chasing entrepreneurs typical disconnected launch until I had AMAZING cocktails at another new spot that truly impressed with their same priced cocktails that were far far more intricate and creative PLUS they didn't try to con me out of more tip AND their space was warm, and inviting with truly exceptional customer service. That experience reminded me that inflation isn't the only thing making life more expensive ... it's also businesses delivering far less value than promised and demanding we are supremely grateful for their limited effort. If you don't want to leave the neighborhood but you still want a somewhat decent margarita .... it ain't here. Pay half the price at Bodhi's in the same parking lot.
