Now THIS is Austin - chill vibes, large outdoor space, awesome bands, great drinks, axe-throwing, top-notch food trucks and all-around fun. We went on a Thursday night so the place was full but not crazy. We actually found parking (and checked out so many cool bikes while walking over). The band, Audic Empire, was excellent! Both cocktails and beers did not disappoint. Bartenders were efficient but warm. The venue did an amazing job clearing out empty glasses quickly so the place was clean and inviting anywhere you wanted to sit. This place seems like a cool spot to get drinks and live music! My friend and I came for the vegan BBQ one of the food trucks had. It was alright. The service was quick and nice but the drinks were pretty watery. I'm a lightweight but didn't even feel my paloma, which made me sad. Tonight I was asked to leave because my dog was barking and jumping while on leash. This makes perfect sense and I respect that. What I don't understand is the minute we walked in another dog ran at our dog when it got away from their owner, and set my dog off. Mind you mine is a 70lb pitty and theirs is about same size golden. Mine is on leash in my control full time but pulling. Again, I get being asked to leave. But please read on- I redirect and go to a FENCED IN dog section. The same dog owner from before goes outside this section and again lets their dog off leash, repeatedly running at the fence antagonizing my dog. Even literally shitting on the fence while my dog is there. Eventually we have enough and leave this area. By now my dog is reactive and when I go to get another drink am asked to leave. I understand this completely! Don't take chances! However I'm told the other dog owner is "someone they know" so it's okay it got away from their owner and ran at my dog. I ask if the outside the fence area is "off leash" I'm told directly no, and ask why that dog can be off leash there? I'm told "we can't police everything." Is that fair? So this dog ran at my dog when it got away from its owner and minutes later is off leash in an area which is NOT off leash. But because they "know" the guy it's okay? Seems questionable. If you can't police on leash areas maybe you need other priorities? I've NEVER had an issue with my dog on leash unless a dog runs at it off leash aggressively. Leash aggression is a real thing. I am working with my dog. I understand being asked to leave. I do not understand lack of any issue with other owner (who remember is "known") allowing his dog off leash in clear "on leash" areas. If you know this customer, and he clearly frequents the bar, shouldn't he know and abide by the rules? Further if his dog gets away and runs at my dog, shouldn't he leave as well? Treat everyone the same. I accept what happened to my experience, but I do not believe we were treated fairly or equally simply because the bartender "knew" the other guy. Again I've come multiple times no issue, but when a dog runs at my dog MULTIPLE times off leash/away from owner and my dog reacts, treat the AGGRESSOR the same way you treat me read more

What a cool spot to hangout with friends! Do note they do not allow minors here anymore. Parking is atrocious so that takes away a star. There are extensive seating areas outside from lawn chairs to picnic tables. There's a large stage and a band was playing while we were there early evening. Both cocktails I ordered were delicious and drink prices were reasonable. The bartenders were quick to take our order and we found seating easily inside and outside. Really cool outdoor spot with a huge outdoor area, a concert stage, indoor bar area, food trucks, and more. I met some friends here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how much space they had; they have a live music stage in front of a bunch of outdoor seating, multiple lounging spots, a covered outdoor area, and a smaller indoor area. There's a few food trucks that had decent food as well, and they have a full bar. Parking of course - there is a lot, and it wasn't too busy when I went in the evening on a weekday but I'm sure given how large it is the parking lot fills up easily. Been hearing about the Armadillo Den for awhile, but it's so far from my house I could never find the time to make it down and check it out. Last night that changed when a friend mentioned she was going. Parking is an absolute nightmare. There's like 30 parking spots for a giant venue. I got super lucky to snag a spot as a guy left rather than PAY $7 AND TAKE A SHUTTLE. Come on guys, that's ridiculous. Figure out a way to let people park for free to come to your bar. Bad first impression. Luckily that was the end of the total negatives as I enjoyed the space immensely. The had a band playing that was pretty good, and there are some awesome food trucks my friends enjoyed. I've had 2 of them before in other locations. Bar staff was just OK. Their cocktail menu was confusing and when I asked the bartender about which drink was good and how much, I got a non-answer. I ended up just having her choose since she wasn't helping, and I looked at the receipt to see I was charged $4.50 for the "Ford's Ranch Water" plus $4.04 for a shot of Espolon. So my drink was $8.54. So weird and confusing, and not really a cocktail on draft if they're adding a spirit... more like a mixer on draft. To be less confused on the next drink I just got a canned beer. When I asked the bartender (a different one) for a glass, she begrudingly got me one and then just dumped the beer in the glass, creating a ton of foam. Is this her first day? I tipped, too, and realized after that I totally shouldn't have. Maybe I just got subpar service since it was a busy Friday night... everyone has bad days. There isn't much I would change about this place. They don't have much parking but we were coming to have drinks so we took a Lyft there. The bartenders gave us 10% off our tab for taking the Lyft which is awesome. They have a solid beer selection and a few good cocktails. We brought two dogs with us, and realized you would probably be out of place here if you didn't have a dog. The seating area is surrounded by some really great food trucks selection wise. My fiancé and I live less than 1/2 a mile from this spot - and this fabulous new venue is making us question our plan to sell in the fall and relocate to another area of Austin! Pros -the ambiance is so so Austin, spaced out, good live music and fantastic prices for drinks -the service was also great. The bar wasn't crowded on a Friday evening and the bartender was so nice -the food trucks are quality: Ranch Hand and Pueblo Viejo Cons -Parking is a mess! If you live south and can, opt for a walk there or ride share. The parking lot is tiny in comparison to the bar's capacity. There are more parking options on the side of the road and across the street but both looked sketch. We ended up walking there and the walk was okay and so refreshing seeing other neighbors also walking! -Mask-wearing was hit or miss. Overall maybe 80% of guests were trying to be safe. I wish Armadillo Den would ask patrons to wear a mask when our ID is checked, that would def be appreciated overall better than we've experienced in the hill country though. Came here on a Monday evening for a going away happy hour with my immediate team. It was my first time exploring this place and I just loved it. We all were impressed. Pictures included. It was not crowded due to it being Monday but I can imagine it being more of a scene on the weekends. It was perfect for our occasion. Not crowded and we were able to chat, felt safe as people were spread out, and we could hear each other. Checked out the food truck nearby. I believe only one was open at the time. I had some tasty chicken nachos. Perfect. The drink was delicious, I believe it was called the painkiller. Bartenders were friendly, and the place seemed so dog friendly, it made me want to borrow someone's furr baby to bring for a hang out. Armadillo Den is one of the coolest and most chill hang out spots I've ever experienced. The food and drink compliment the fantastic atmosphere perfectly, you can't have a bad time here. We arrived as a big group and quickly took over one end of a table (with a few heat lamps, as it was chill that evening). We were right in front of the big screen, which was playing Sunday Night Football, had a few of the Ring Swing games at our disposal, and were centrally located for all the food and drink access we needed. First off, the food is provided by several food trucks and ranges from tacos, to chicken fingers, to fries. We had the fingers and they were AMAZING! The fries complimented them well, too. Second, they served a pretty wide variety of drinks, from beer to wine to specialty cocktails. I had hot apple cider with bourbon and it kept me toasty warm! Finally, the atmosphere was top-notch. Great layout, lots of fire pits and heat lamps, and plenty of open space and seating. This place was made for chill hang outs. I'll be honest, I was a bit skeptical of leaving downtown Austin, which has TONS to offer, and heading out to the burbs. But Armadillo Den is worth the visit, which is saying a lot from city guy at heart. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a different kind of night... different in all the best ways! read more

What a great addition to the live music scene in south Austin. First time coming here on a busy afternoon. This place is mostly outdoors but has a ton a seating and shade. What I like about it most was there was a separate area for dogs so you could play with your pup without disrupting anyone around you. They also had an upstairs patio area with an upstairs bar which was closed unfortunately but still worth the view. There's pretty much live music every day here so if you want to avoid the crowds and not have to worry about the limited parking you could probably try your luck on a weekday. "The Uber bar" because you have to get dropped off. The bar sits on several acres of land but the parking lot has like 15 spots. Both times I've been I've had to park at least a half mile away as there isn't street parking and the bar next door charges for parking. The bar tenders are never the nicest, but it's just a casual country bar so I shouldn't have expected great service. Otherwise it's a big, mostly-outdoor bar with average drinks. Cheers! read more

The dogs love the park, though it's kind of dirty, so we let them run around in the open field for a bit. 3 food trucks, Mexican, healthy bbq, and a fries spot. I went there for the first time yesterday and I was shocked. This place looks so small from the outside especially when you only drive by it. Once you go inside you realize how large the bar itself is. There is a huge outdoor sitting area and they even have a gated dog park inside! It was so cute seeing all the doggies playing with each other. Adorable! The drinks were delicious too! I only had 2 though. The reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because parking here is really challenging/frustrating. PARKING: I didn't count the spaces but there's like 20-30 parking spots available. It sounds like a lot but not if you think about meeting up with a few friends who are all driving separately. Cars are parking on the road which helps with the situation but let's remember that cars on Menchaca are driving around 50mph. Imagine drinking and walking to your car. BE SAFE!!! We tried to see how the parking situation was if we went to MOONTOWER and ITS NOT WORTH IT. He spoke quickly so I may have missed a few details. They said parking would be $15. Something about it being included in your tab. No thanks! Carpooling is highly recommended!!! OUTDOOR /INDOOR SITTING: There is plenty of sitting on the inside. There are tables sitting 4. If you need more space head upstairs. They have some picnic tables on the balcony area. There is sitting for 2 upstairs wrapped around the balcony overseeing the outdoor area/Moontower Volleyball Courts. It's beautiful and relaxing. Outdoor sitting is really well thought out. They currently have several heat lamps around picnic tables. They have 5-6 gas fire tables (fancy fire pits) around a beautiful tree. I believe they sit around 6-8 people. These tables go quick! There are plenty of tables that sit 4 and they even have a swing! FOOD: I saw they had 2 food trucks but I wasn't able to stop by. One was Pueblo Viejo which is a personal favorite of mine! The other was Ranch Hand which I haven't been to yet. RESTROOMS: There are M/F bathrooms downstairs, outside by the stairs, 4-5 stalls each. The sinks are outside so everyone can make sure you washed them hands! I loved that haha! I really hope they upgrade the faucets because the spouts are so close to the sink. It's hard to wash your hands without caressing the sink itself which I really hated. I understand that the sinks are probably antiques and have their own charm. This was just my personal view on it. I'm a peasant haha! There are also bathrooms upstairs next to the bar in the corner. I didn't stop by those. DRINKS: I had 2 of the Skinny Margaritas (I don't recall the full name but it was long haha!) They had a Tajin rim and they were sooooooo delicious and strong. I also loved that they offered us straws that were 100% compostable. They're made from plants and were sturdy enough to reuse on my second drink. COVID19: All staff wore a mask. I never saw anyone not wearing one while working. It was really nice to see that. My only beef was with the crowd. After it started getting late the crowd started loosening up and started being quite nonchalant about the restrictions/guidelines. The staff can only do so much y'all. If you come here and you're reading this please be respectful of others. I saw a couple standing and vaping on top of the staircase while my friend and I were sitting right there in the corner. Please don't stand there and drink. Just sit down in your own space. Also, upstairs in the bathroom line don't take your mask off and start drinking and laughing. There are people sitting down, bartenders are working, and you're about to use the bathroom. Keep your drinks at your table. We are still in a pandemic. We decided to walk to Armadillo Den (from Moontower Saloon) for more live music (great band that night!) and to sample the 2 food trucks on site. What a great decision! The music was awesome, the sound was great (you could talk and still enjoy the music) and the food was tasty. We tried the tacos, guacamole and chips and the burgers. Everything was good (guacamole was a little too creamy for some of us and the veggie taco was just ok). Lots and lots of seating. A large green space for dogs and at least 2 different bar areas with some inside seating and balcony seating overlooking the outdoor space and bandstand. Armadillo Den is a fun spot tucked on the east side of Menchaca Rd. Just beyond moon tower. It's a fantastic spot for indoor drinks but the patio and outdoor space is what makes it special. There is plenty of room to distance and enjoy outdoors. There is also a rooftop element. They have 2 Food trucks on site and a full service bar. The team is masking up and the service was great. My husband, son, and I went to the Armadillo Den this weekend to try it out. Overall, it was a lovely experience. The place has just opened so there's a few tweaks they're making (the employee at the entrance let us know it was a soft opening). Pros: -Outdoor seating -INSANE food trucks! Try the fish taco and the jackfruit sloppy joe! -Beautiful setting, great location to watch the sun set. Cons: -Not child friendly just yet but they said by March it'll be up to par! -Right now there's no baby changing station in the restrooms. I was able to change my guy on the floor of the gender neutral stall, but would love to see a drop down changing station. read more

My wife and I decided to check out the Armadillo Den on a Friday after work. When we arrived at about 5:10 we noticed the sign that said "no kids after 6:00". We had two kids with us. When we asked the doorman if we were really going to be kicked out at 6:00, their answer was "maybe" and "it depends". If we had been given a direct answer, i.e., "We are going to kick you out exactly at 6:00", we would not have proceeded. Honestly, I had a hard time imagining anyone being that uptight. We entered and it was chill, the ambience was nice, it wasn't crowded, nice big dog area, there was lots of space and a few other families naturally mingled in disrupting nothing. It seemed nice. I've been looking for an outside place to get a good pizza after work and sit outside and drink beer. Unfortunately, we will won't be back. First issue: We ordered a pizza as soon as we got in. At 5:45, while we were still waiting for our pizza and drinking drinks we had purchased from the bar, we were told that we had to be gone in 15 minutes. Pizza arrived about 5 minutes later. We had 10 minutes to eat our kind of expensive pizza (not complaining, but it added to the crappiness of being kicked out). Exactly at 6, all the families were rounded up and marched out. We sat and tried to hurry up and finish our pizza and were told, you need to. Get. Out. now. It would have been nice if they stop letting people with kids in at 6, but let those already there finish up their drinks and food. We were going to go, but just wanted to eat the pizza we'd been waiting for first. Second, while there, our dog was attacked by an off leash pit-bull that belonged to another patron (our dog was leashed). The other dog had to be fought off. The attack was witnessed by several other patrons, that later on dropped by to check on our dog, tell us that they had witnessed it, and said that they would back us up if it came to that. I informed the employee tending tables what had happened. A while later I saw him and someone else (wearing a green polo, manager?) talking with the owner of the pit-bull. And then... nothing. As far as I can tell no further action was taken. No manager came to talk to us. They did not ask the pit-bull to be removed from the premises (even though along with their no kids sign, they also have a no aggressive dog sign). They did not follow-up with me, or (as far as I know) the people that I indicated had also witnessed the attack. When the employee passed me a little later, he said "it's been resolved". As we were leaving, noticing the aggressive dog was still there, I showed them the missing hair on my dog's head. The response was "it's difficult" because "they didn't see it". I again pointed out the other patrons that witnessed the attack. He shrugged it off. In case you skimmed, they knowingly allowed an aggressive dog to stay on the premises after it had already attacked another dog. If you have kids, or dogs that you care about, I would suggest spending your money elsewhere. read more

When I went recently I parked across the street where other cars were parking-near a storage spot. My car did not get towed, but it was dark, so be careful.
