So I never complain about restaurants but this one just really pissed me off. First off, towards the end of paying the check the waiter seemed drunk and couldn't comprehend what checks were with who after 3xs, and I ended up eating the ceviche and got very very bad food poisoning that night.. I'm not gonna report it to the restaurant but I will write a review to warn you all because I feel miserable and might have to go to the hospital. Just check your food people. read more

My husband and I had never been for dinner only drinks. We met a couple there and although the food wasn't the best Mexican in Houston, it wasn't bad. The ambiance was great and the service was wonderful, no complaints there. We ordered the Queso and it was really good with a little kick to it and the chips were some of the best I have had. My husband and I went a couple of Fridays ago and I was very impressed. Started off with shrimp cocktail and the Tex Mex eggrolls....VERY GOOD! I went on to order a small Tortilla soup and when it came to the table, I asked, "This is a small?!" I expected a cup but it came out in a bowl and it was amazing. I saw a Ferrari parked out front and I thought "must be pretty upscale" that sounds superficial but I was really let down by the place I had just taken my wife for dinner. We never get to go out so it was devastating to have an awful dining experience so when I saw Armando's it was like a light house in a storm. We drank port and had three different desserts. The Tres Leche was on point. Had some coffee and bounced. Place had great service, no wait to dine at the bar, excellent customer service, and valley parking which still feels ballin even with your minivan. Thanks for helping me save date night. read more

The atmosphere was busy, but thats to be expected on a weekend. The staff was full of smiles and made me feel welcome. Now, the food. The food was overall Good, but not great. My appetizer was the Seafood Cake (on the chef's specials menu, so it was probably something new they were trying) It was bay scallops, shrimp and crab meat...set over a spicy avacado foam. The cake itself eas tasty and flavorful. My issue was the avacado foam. It showed off the chef's ability, but really didn't fit the dish. Avacado slices with a sprinkle of salt would have better accented the dish. The portion size was small for the price paid. The entree was the Seafood Enchiladas. Two corn tortillas rolled with crab meat, shrimp, cheese & spinach, topped with poblano butter sauce, served with Mexican Rice and refried beans. The Enchiladas were tasty, but they could have used more than just poblano butter sauce. The Mexican rice was average....nothing special. The refried beans, though, were very flavorful. The flavor was spot on and texture of the beans was wonderful. The presentation of the beans and overall dish were again average, but it was a solid meal. Again, the portion size was small for the price paid. I had a giftcard from restaurant.com. Without that I would probably have had to pass. Overall it is a solid meal. read more

I read the reviews here and then looked at the sleek web site and the swank address and thought, what a bunch of cheapskates on Yelp. The truth is the masses are right, this place is a terrible value. It is Hugo's prices with food quality a hair better than Chuy's. The service was very average. The waiter asked for drink orders before providing the drink menu. The chips and salsa were well below average. Snapper was okay. Enchiladas were okay. Everything was just okay at premium pricing. They also take up the vast majority of spaces for valet parking when no space is more than 50 yards from the door. I do not see us going back. read more

If 0 stars was an option I would gladly give. I usually don't post on yelp but since there was no direct email on the website on here on yelp. Decided to visit on Mother's Day evening, had issues with seating, once seated I asked the hostess for a black napkin and she had attitude but did bring a black nap back. And then it was down hill from there - my family and I don't eat red meat and made it clear to the waiter who paid no attention. For dinner we ordered the lobster enchiladas, which we had before (to go) and the manditos which on the menu is described as - Mandito's One cheddar cheese enchilada, one crispy taco, and chicken or beef fajita served over grilled onions, we asked for shrimp instead of chicken and to sub on the taco as well. Well once arrived the lobster did was fine but the manditos was wrong so we asked for a manger who showed 'customer service' by asking did we not read the menu? Wow! I spoke up and said, yes and it no description for the sauce on the enchilada as she tried to say it did, read your own menu manager. I don't typically write reviews but the service I received yesterday with the Taco Truck was top notch and warranted a review. I had a Christmas party for 40 people at my house. I had seen the Taco Truck at a work event and thought I would give it a try. The food was delicious. The team showed up on time, setup and and even took the trash with them. They were friendly, on top of it and made my experience worry free. Definitely using the Taco Truck again next year. read more

Came in for a quick drink and an appetizer before attending a holiday party. Since no reservations we ended up at the bar where we ordered the house margaritas. The house margaritas might be a little more expensive than those at other restaurants, but they are more comparable to "top shelf" and are definitely recommended. FABIOLA was our bartender and she was definitely fabulous. She was very courteous and quick to take our order. We ended up sitting at the bar where we ordered appetizers. We asked FABIOLA if she was familiar with a cucumber Margarita. She said she was and whipped up the best cucumber Margarita that we have ever had. We visited Armandos on a Thursday night to celebrate my fiances birthday. It was truly a special experience with a few minor hiccups. I had dropped off the cake in advance and went ahead and paid the $15 dollar "cake fee" so it wouldn't be added on to the receipt later. We had reservations for 8:30pm but were not seated till past 9pm. No worries though we had a great seat and great view of the dance floor. We ordered beef fajitas, the mini surf & turf, enchiladas, and ceviche. Everything was very fresh and had great flavor. Fast forward to the surprise cake being brought out, our waiter almost brought the cake when the birthday boy was not even seated. We were also charged again for the cake fee but I was able to have them remove it when I saw the bill. By the end of the night service had really ceased to exist. I am sure this only happens on Thursday nights since they are crazy busy. Overall it was a memorable time and I can not wait to go back! read more

Went with business partners on July 9, 2012. I will start by saying that the food at Armandos is always great. That said, the experience was not good. First, I really resent having to pay a valet to park my car when the parking lot is totally empty. Second, the hostess had on a skirt that was so short, that when she bent over to pick up menus, I could see her naked buttocks. The waiter was simply awful. After ordering appetizers and eating them, the waiter stood around chatting with a fellow employee. He would not look at our table and blew us off. Keep in mind, the restaurant was pretty empty that night. Finally, I ask a bus boy to inform our waiter we'd like to order. After we finished eating, the same thing occured -- the waiter ignored us and kept chatting with a fellow employee. I kept trying to get his attention as we were tired and didn't want to spend the night at Armandos. I finally got up and walked towards the waiter. As I approached him, he began to walk in the opposite direction, so I had to keep following him. When I caught up to him, I told him we didn't plan on spending our night at Armandos and we'd appreciate him bringing the check to the table. The skinny margarita was terrible too. So --my complaints are: 1. Unwanted and unnecessary valet 2. Hostess whose mother failed to tell her that patrons do not want to look at her shiney buttocks. 3. If not the worst, one of the worst waiters I've ever had. 4. Tasteless skinny margarita My compliments -- as usual, the food was terrific. read more

We had a birthday dinner reservation for four people at 8pm and were seated and then waitress kept insisting to take our order. She finally told us that there were a party of 30 arriving and that she wanted to make sure and put our order in before the large group. Food was ok, nothing special. I had heard the margaritas were good here but it was probably the worst we all agreed we had tried in Houston. Less than one hour after being seated, we noticed that the tables around us were being taken away. We meanwhile ordered the birthday cake and proceeded to notice more and more people at the bar area. We were being pushed by the waitress who kept coming around with the check and finally we realized that where our table was situated turned into a dance floor. Our table was the only one left in the middle of the dance floor! We called Armando, the owner of the restaurant over to ask him what was going on. It was still less than an hour from our reservation time! He did not apologize nor explain to his four "new to his restaurant" customers. He said " you will all have to get up, this is a dance floor after 9pm". This is while one of our guests had a birthday cake in front of her! He did not offer any appology nor even acknowledge the celebration we were having. Unbelievable, never in any place that I have travelled, have I been treated so rudely.We asked if they were going to move us to another table and the owner said only if we buy a bottle of champagne. He kept circling around us until he finally just grabbed our bill summary and handed it to the waitress and told us to get up! As an owner, he should have kindly explained the situation, offered us another place to sit and even perhaps, as a normal Mexican gesture, offered a drink. Clearly Armando is in the USA doing running a business because he would have never made it in Mexico. This guy is a "has been" and someone needs to tell him, disco days are over! Houston has so many great places to frequent. There is no reason to ever be treated like this by any establishment , especially an owner.....unbelievable! read more

This was was my first experience with Armando's and trust me it will be my last. I tried to use a Groupon which i will admit was expired, although it stated that the face value would be honored. I asked management which was the owners wife Cindy Palacious, since this was our first time dining here ,as a business owner would she honor the coupon so that we could experience the dining atmosphere. She stated NO! Although my sister and I tried to dine their we were treated as if segregation was still in existence . In addition this will also disengage myself from eating at one of my favorite eating places, "My Fit Foods" in which Armondo is also the owner. In my experience with Groupons, it engages you to dine at other places that you are not familiar with. Although I was unable to dine at Armando's to experience the delicacies they had to offer, the customer service itself was enough for me to know I never will comeback. read more

Will never go back to this place again!!! The owner is utterly rude and disrespectful. My party had a reservation for 630 for about 12 people. Only 4 showed and 2 were on their way. In the middle of our dinner (an hour after our reservation) he decided to tell the bus boys to break our table down without any notice or even asking were our other guests joining us. Rudely, they cleared the opposite end of the table taking 1/2 of our table decorations and rolled them up in the table cloth and discarded them without asking if we wanted our decorations. My friend jumped up and asks him why is he being so rude and not even ask us anything before breaking the tables down. He stated it was rude to be 2 hours late for a reservation. She informed him that it was only 1 hour and that doesn't give him the right to be rude to the guests that were there. One of the ladies was in the middle of eating and the waiter pushed her plate out of the way to move the table out. I have never in my 40 years of being on this earth have experienced such rude and disrespectful behaviour from an OWNER of a restaurant. The ladies were so embarrassed and ready to leave. I felt horrible for inviting them there and having to experience this type of treatment. He finally apologized to us and offered 2 free drinks for this embarrassment. YES, 2 FREE drinks for this embarrassment!! Then, once we received our tickets, they had the nerve to add gratuity to the tab!! Outraged!!!
