Armando's Pizza prioritizes being a small, express, pick-up-only pizza joint located near a train station and close to a bus stop. With its high foot traffic, the compact space is often crowded with children and commuters waiting for their orders. The pizza selection is limited to classic options like Margherita, Sicilian slices, and Detroit and New York-style slices. However, there is no signature slice or uniqueness that other pizzerias often showcase. Surprisingly, there's more variety in other menu options, such as patties, Strombolis, and breadsticks, some of which are just a dollar--a convenient, quick snack for those in a hurry. The breadsticks are warmed in the oven, making them an especially suitable choice for kids waiting for their orders. The chicken wings, however, are prepared and fried ahead of time, sitting alongside the pizzas until ordered. This practice doesn't feel fresh or appetizing and gives off convenience-store vibes. At over $5, they don't feel like good value for money. Canned soda is also available, but you're better off buying one at a dollar store to avoid the inflated price. The cramped layout is another downside. The space often sees a mix of children and sometimes questionable individuals coming in and out. While there's no animosity toward those who may be homeless, it can feel uncomfortable when they handle spice bottles or sit on the counter. Occasionally, they're given a discounted or free slice, which might make some paying customers uneasy, particularly with hygiene concerns. The pizzas are prepared quickly, but the quality suffers due to the rapid turnover. If you're in the Canarsie/Flatlands area looking for a locally-owned alternative to commercial pizza chains, there aren't many options. Canarsie, while not historically known as a major Italian enclave like Bensonhurst or Carroll Gardens, has seen a mix of cultures over time. Armando's doesn't have a distinctly Italian feel; instead, it's run by a team who are friendly and skilled in customer service, though they're working with ingredients that feel more mass-produced than fresh. For five dollars, you're not getting pizza made with high-quality ingredients; it tastes as though it's been refrigerated. The refrigerator, visible behind the counter, makes it clear that the pizzas aren't made from scratch but rather assembled and reheated. The dough is prepared in-house and made visibly fresh, but given the tiny workspace and the watery, flavorless taste of the pizza, it's unlikely that the sauce or cheese is freshly made or of high quality. This is the pizza spot for the impatient or for kids looking for a quick snack. As an adult, you're likely to crave something more substantial and satisfying. If you have higher standards, it's better to save your appetite for a pizza that's truly worth it.

Pepperoni slice with extra cheese. Good!

Really good pizza served up hot, fresh and cheesy. Standing, countertop service only. No inside seating. Bless the staff for being so patient because the 'L train crowd can be rough! They serve other pizza parlor goodies like garlic knots and calzones and they have a great beverage selection. I saw empanadas behind the glass. Might try them soon.

Needs to try this historical gem. The service and atmosphere was fast and friendly. The food was A1. Order consistent of 1 Grandma Slice, 2 Cheese Slice and Armando's Citrus Soda.

Horrible. You're making money off of customers from local mass transit who are desperate for anything in their stomach. Upgrade your quality

Armando's has been here for years. I just stopped by for a slice and it was horrible. I took two bites and threw it out. The mozzarella is VERY low grade. The crust wasn't bad and the sauce ratio to the cheese was good. But, it tastes like crap. I've experienced their pizza over the years and they are deep declining. This is not good pizza. Canarsie in general, has horrible pizza.

    So old school it hurts...

Although this place is far out in Canarsie--aka the edge of the unknown world for Manhattanites--its a legend in these parts. A place doesn't stay open for 50 years and not be well known to be fair, but its location right next to the L train, late hours, and cheap prices helped solidify its rep. And while all of this is nice, and while the place has plenty of character (Dodgers/old school Brooklyn pics cover an entire wall, owner always there, the place's name is also spelled no less than 3 different ways throughout the place, the main sign outside looks so fucking old school from the outside that it hurts), it wouldn't mean much to me if the food weren't good. I got two slices: the sicilian slice which is what they're famous for, and the grandma slice which they recently added. The sauce here is great, well balanced and matches the slices every well. The sicilian is definitely a belly bomb and although I am not a fan of sicilians normally, this one had a fluffy inside and plenty of cheese; it was a belly bomb for sure and made me pass out on my way back to the city, but it was as thoroughly enjoyable as any sicilian I've had. The grandma slice was also great, but in a differnet way. Where the sicilian was a rough around the edges as it should be, the grandma was much more refined. They used a different sauce for this, one which they kicked up a notch with some seasonings, olive oil and fresh mozzarella. They edge of the crust was the only problem I had with it, as it came upwards and was harded than I would've liked, where most grandmas have a flatter, softer outer crust. But the sheer deliciousness of this slice outweigh this issue. If you had combined these two kinds of pizza into one, you would have a slice that could compete with any in the city, period. Is this place worth a trip out to Canarsie for? If you're a pizza nut like me, it sure is. However, this is a place that, if they tweaked some things, could have near perfect pizza. Whether they do so is up to them, but they damn sure have the legacy, skill, and support (see their facebook page) to do so. PS: This place is the same owners as the Armando's in Starrett City, which has many more Yelp reviews.

I finally got a chance to check out Armando's pizza and I now see why they have such good reviews. The customer service is fantastic, unlike any other pizza place that I've been to. The restaurant is set up like most NY pizza shops. It's a small space with limited seating. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who was prepared to take my order. He had such a great personality and a cool sense of humor. I ordered a plain cheese pizza and he asked me if I wanted the pizza warm or hot. I was surprised that they actually take the time out to ASK customers how they would like their pizza. Needless to say, the pizza was yummy in my tummy! Lol! But once again, the customer service is what really makes this place stand out. I will definitely be returning.

Good, neighborhood pizza place. Everyone friendly, everyone knew each other. Had a big veggie slice -- delicious (though maybe could heat up longer), plus garlic knots. Conveniently right outside exit of end of L train.

Worth the hype! Absolutely insane calzone... That was our must order!!!…read more The pizza is also incredible - you have to try. We had a pizza + a calzone and for 2-3 people this is enough. Cash only, BYOB (with rules depending on how many people), and a time limit on the table. Know what you want when you sit down. Menu is easy, pizza, calzones, sometimes pasta. Simple. Is it worth waiting in line for - maybe - if you have 2-3 hours free and nothing else to do and it's a nice day, sure. But honestly can't say I am running back to do it again. Waiting in line to get added to a waitlist that still doesn't always guarantee you will sit down to eat at the requested time - we were seated 40 mins after checking in (unusually long, never had more then 20 mins or so in past visits) but still a strange system, keeps the spot exclusive I'd guess. Have visited several times and always have had a good meal and the prices are very fair. Seating is not super comfortable and they pack you in for real, the restaurant is also unnecessarily dark and loud - But not in a bad way? I can't explain it but the very delicious pizza makes up for the weird ambiance and all the rules... definitely something to experience atleast once.

I've eaten here, come to the Bushwick Block Party to see Action Bronson perform, and spent enough time around Tiki Disco to associate the place with a particularly inventive, free-spirited period in the neighborhood. The dining area still has that wonderfully idiosyncratic character: exposed beams, communal tables, mismatched details, and an open kitchen turning out genuinely excellent pizza. What impresses me most is how naturally Roberta's became more than a restaurant. Food, music, parties, outdoor spaces, and an extraordinary mix of people all seemed to converge here, giving the place a cultural gravity that could never have been designed by committee. It remains one of those places that instantly takes me back to my bachelor years and an especially fun chapter of my time in the city, when Bushwick felt endlessly creative, and Roberta's seemed to sit comfortably at its center. Sending my highest recommendation!

Got a TGTG order here. 11/10 I'd do it again…read more Brooklyn DOP actually originated as a pandemic business where my friend's personal trainer started baking pizzas outside of his Greenwood Heights apartment. When the hype got large enough, the owner decided to start a pizzeria and the rest is not history. This is one of the more worthwhile TGTG orders to me. Their pizza is SOOO perfectly crisp and charred, and actually is one of the closest pizzas that reminds me of the famous originals in Napoli.

Brooklyn DOP is a prime example of what happens when a pandemic lockdown, a dough obsession, and an…read moreinability to sit still all collide. We visited as a stop on Scott's Pizza Bus Tour, which meant we were actively evaluating it against some of the best pizza in the city. Evaluating pizza on a tour is tricky because excellence becomes relative when you are eating multiple high-end pies in a single afternoon. According to Scott, Brooklyn DOP began in founder Thomas Ardito's apartment during the 2020 lockdowns. With his primary work on pause, he started baking pizza and selling pies through Instagram to pay his rent. People kept ordering. His friend Jason D'Amelio joined the effort, and what started as an apartment project turned into pop-ups and eventually a brick-and-mortar shop on 5th Avenue in Park Slope. That is a considerably more compelling origin story than a corporate franchise business plan. The setup in Park Slope includes a quiet back courtyard, which offered a comfortable spot for our group to sit, eat, and recover between stops. It feels relaxed and distinctly Brooklyn without trying too hard to remind you where you are. The pizza itself is very good. The crust strikes a proper balance between a crisp bottom and a chewy interior. The toppings are handled with care, from the crushed tomatoes to the fresh mozzarella. This is dough crafted by people who take fermentation seriously rather than relying on pre-packaged shortcuts. On its own merits, the pizza is a solid 4.5 stars. Unfortunately for Brooklyn DOP, it was competing on a tour against places operating on another plane. It is an excellent pie, but it was not the single slice that caused the entire tour to fall silent in collective awe. Still, that is an aggressive standard to hold against any local shop. Brooklyn DOP offers a great courtyard, a serious approach to dough, and a standout product. Landing just shy of five stars says far more about the sheer volume of elite pizza we ate that day than it does about the shop itself. Four stars. And if you are not spending the afternoon riding around New York with Scott Wiener eating pizza at some of the finest pizza joints the 5 boroughs have to offer, you can probably bump that half-star back up.
