We stopped here on our way to Colorado for our honeymoon because we saw that this place got good reviews and it was with reason! The parking lot was full and the parking lot across the street was full. This is a small family owned restaurant with two dining rooms and they were at a socially distanced capacity. We waited outside for our table which was not long. I had the sour cream chicken enchiladas which were absolutely fantastic! My fiancé had one of their other styles in enchiladas which were also extremely tasty. The salsa and queso and the chips were all good and the service was wonderful. They have a small but decent selection of Mexican beers there and, oh, the Charro beans were also good I just wish they were more of them! Wow! Lived in Dallas, Texas for 16 years and found ourselves in San Angelo for a golf tournament where the locals recommended Armentas. This is the best Mexican food to ever cross my lips. The fresh salsa and perfectly baked chips were the perfect starter. We then ordered the Veracruzana enchiladas and the sour cream enchiladas. They were served piping hot and full of flavor. The service was top notch too. We then washed it all down with a slice of German chocolate cake that was insanely good. Do yourself a favor and eat here!! read more

Packed to the gills during a week lunch, I was impressed we were able to snag a table for lunch so quickly. The prompt service, reasonable prices, and variety on the menu did not disappoint! I had chicken tacos and they were delicious! With a solid plate of food I could not possibly finish, and a fresh and flavorful meal, I was over the moon. Mexican food isn't my fave, I tend to like lighter fare, but this place was pretty darn good. This place is what I would call a local dive. An excellent recommended local dive. Great personality, clean restaurant, and excellent food. I love visiting restaurants that showcase local talent and pride. That is what I felt here. We came for a good Mexican breakfast. I ordered The Migas à la Mexicana. It was served with homemade hashbrowns and tasty refried beans. I was impressed that the hashbrowns were homemade, not a typical thing to find in a restaurant. The migas were as good as any I have had. They had fresh onion and jalapeño diced up and I asked for extra heat, so they added extra jalapeños. Delicious! She brought out a cup of tomatillo sauce and tomato based red salsa. Both had a nice flavor and a subtle spicy kick to them. Delicious. The corn tortillas served on the side were good. The coffee was fresh brewed and I like the fact they had small containers of half-and-half sitting on the table. That is uncommon nowadays. Very appreciated. I would give a four star review, a rock solid four star review, for all of the above. Now let's get to the real treat and surprise! Dessert. They have a display cabinet of fresh homemade desserts up front. My wife and I kept looking at the desserts while eating. I couldn't help but notice the appropriate fresh quality appeal of the homemade desserts. Too many places try to make things cutesy cute, overly decorated These looked more like homemade desserts of a high-quality, like mom used to make. My wife and I kept studying how fresh and wholesome they looked. Seeing as I had my 79-year-old mother with my wife and me, we decided to share a slab of homemade cheesecake goodness. Were we ever in for a surprise! This slab of homemade cheesecake goodness sat on a bed of buttery graham crackers that have been crumbled freshly. The cheesecake had such a rich creamy cheese cream cheese quality that it was undeniable how homemade and rich this desert was. The blueberry topping was absolutely delicious. They put a generous helping of whip cream on top. My mom and I are not big cheesecake fans, so this was a total gamble on our part. My mom gave in and decided to take a taste. She really lit up. So did I. We were all pleasantly surprised at how good this desert is. The waitress says she makes all the desserts herself and she uses a lot of Mexican vanilla in many things. Freaking tasty! This put the review to a solid five star. Do not make the mistake, no matter how full you are, of skipping dessert. When we come to visit mom in San Angelo from now on, we will be stopping by to at least try some kind of good homemade desserts here. Highly recommended. read more

Visiting our daughter at ASU and she recommended this place. We went on a Sunday morning and it was packed. Lots of locals. We were actually seated pretty quickly. We ordered the beef fajita enchiladas and the chicken sour cream enchiladas . Everything was delicious. The chips and salsa were great. I was so disappointed with my experience. I really wanted to love this place. My parents live in San Angelo, and we try to hit up delicious hole in the wall restaurants because they are always the best! This is a very small place and when we first arrived, it took a bit for someone to notice us at the door and seat us. Once we finally got seated, the waitress barely came by. The food was not that great at all. I was expecting much better based on the reviews. We had also ordered a to go breakfast order when we first arrived and by the time we left they said that breakfast was over and they could no longer make that order. They were decent on time for making the food. The salsa is spicy but you can't resist it's flavor. The service is super fast, they are quick to handle any need. Cons- IT'S SMALL!! Maybe a total of 3 booths and 8 tables. You can feel uneasy in such a small place. It's more noisier than most restaurants. Not good for groups at all, maybe go with 3 people to make sure y'all are comfortable. Overall, the food is great so anybody would be have a great quick lunch. My husband and I were passing through and default to Tex-Mex when eating somewhere new because they can usually accommodate his dietary needs (Biblically clean pescatarian, gluten-free, dairy-free) and it had good reviews. First impression: cute little restaurant with an enclosed plant-y patio, a little dated, but we didn't have to wait to sit and were promptly greeted. They serve homemade deserts (we saw them cut, plate, and wrap them) in a vintage-style display cooler and have a very down-to-earth feeling. We told the waitress his dietary needs and found out they use lard in their beans, the only fish they serve is catfish, and they really don't have any vegetarian options. He orders grilled vegetables and rice just to be safe, but they add seasoning that contains flour so he can't eat it after all. My Monterrey Chili relleno was delicious and the lard beans were well seasoned. The salsa, addictive! The tortillas were tasty too but don't ask for butter - you'll be served lackluster squeezable soybean oil in a bottle. Flys die for it! I was also hoping for a delicious margarita but, unfortunately, they only serve wine and beer. It wasn't a complete failure, but my husband didn't get to eat, so we won't be back. read more

Very, uh, interesting little spot. We got here early tonight, around 5, and were the only ones on their patio area because the restaurant was packed with zero distancing going on. There's Dia de los Muertos art all around, which our daughter loved (yay, Coco!). By the time we left, the patio was full and there was a massive wait outside. Guess it's pretty popular??? Margaritas are some kind of unique wine/OJ concoction. No idea! It tasted somewhat strange, but got the job down. HH beers are a great price. The salsa is of the thinner variety, but spicy with great flavor. Queso was a bowl of microwaved velveeta and nothing else--kinda gross TBH. Dinner was better though: we got the beef fajita salad and the New Mexican enchiladas. The salad had pretty fresh ingredients and the meat was cooked well with nice seasoning. The enchiladas didn't seem super fresh, but we enjoyed the beans and green chile sauce. Our daughter's chicken fingers were inexplicably florescent orange and her fries were beyond limp, so we couldn't blame her for preferring our food. The best part of the night was dessert: an oreo tres leches. Very unique and delicious, although the leche surrounding it seemed like straight up condensed milk only...! Our server was very sweet but she was the only one on the entire patio (which is insane) so she was running around like crazy. Bottom line: a different kind of meal/experience, but not one that we would necessarily be talking up to others. read more

Best Mexican food place in town. The staff is so friendly and the food always delicious. We always order the Callajada (sp?) brisket enchiladas with Jalisco sauce. It comes with rice and beans. I usually HATE beans but I love their beans. Everything always tastes sooo good and fresh. We ordered curbside pick up this time due to the COVID-19. They packaged each meal separately and gave us our own chips and salsa. So happy to be able to support a local restaurant during this time. Oh - I also got a Dos Equis Amber to go.
