4/21/2026 friends treated my husband and I for his birthday dinner. Chang Thai opens promptly at 5pm as shown on their website for dinner. We were greeted and seated within a minute of walking in at 5pm. I'm not that familiar with this type of dining so I'm not knocking the restaurant for me not liking my dinner, it's just not my thing I guess. I'm giving 4 stars because they did not have Thai Iced Tea on hand for this evenings dinner guest, apparently the lady who makes it wasn't in today. My opinion, a Thai restaurant not having Thai Iced Tea is like a Mexican restaurant not having margaritas, a bit disappointing. We were the first dinner guest in the restaurant and our dinners were a bit of a wait (longer than usual) from order to service and that was ok as it gave us time to visit. Our drinks and appetizers were served fairly quick. Our waitress was very friendly and tried to help me decide on dinner by explaining a few options. The place was clean and inviting with ample seating and filled up quickly within the hour. I'm only picturing my dinner and I can't remember what it was. It had a strong after taste so I tried each individual piece to pinpoint what had that flavor. Went here with my husband this weekend and we ordered their seafood boil in spicy! I've been craving for a good seafood boil, and was so excited when I found out this Thai place had it on the menu! The sauce was good and the spice level was perfect! I added sausage and potatoes to my order and got it with a side of white rice! The potatoes come in medallions which is different from your typical boils which usually have the whole potato. However, my husband said he liked it better because it soaks up the sauce! Our server was friendly and the service was good! She came to check up on us pretty frequently! I only got an order for pickup and the staff were still very kind. They gave us free drinks while we waited for our food to be ready, because we got there early. The food is actually amazing! We recently tried Chang Thai for the first time and placed a takeout order. The staff's exceptional service deserves recognition; I was warmly welcomed upon arrival. While my order was being finalized, I was offered a drink and given the option to wait in the restaurant or in my vehicle. The staff member kindly offered to bring out my order. The wait was brief, and when I arrived home, my food was fresh and delicious. Our chicken teriyaki order included a tasty sauce, vegetables, white rice, soup, and a salad, all in perfect portions. My family and I have been to Chang Thai several times and have always experienced exceptional service and cuisine. The restaurant is family owned and operated and we love that music is always playing in the background. The waiting staff is always so friendly and quick to serve. The food is always fresh and absolutely delicious! On our most recent visit the owner came out to the dining area and gave my son chopsticks at his request. She began speaking to us and shared how impressed she was that my 9 year old uses chopsticks so well. She made a funny joke and we all laughed. She gave compliments to me and my children. The reason for my 5th Star is that the owner asked where my husband was (he did not join us this particular evening). I explained that he had just gotten into town from work and was feeling under the weather with an upper respiratory infection. Without skipping a beat she said, "Well wait right there...let me go get him some soup!" She came back shortly with a large container of clear soup. She had added some fresh ginger as well and she told me she hopes he feels better soon. Their clear soup-my family calls it "Liquid Gold". It's the perfect remedy when you're feeling I'll! YUM YUM IN MY TOM YUMs! was not expecting to be transported to Thailand from this lovely little spot! i ordered the Yum Nua, beef was tender, limes, onion cilantrO all Ahhhhhhh FRESH! sticky rice was a lovely pairing! and spice levels were not burn a hole in you seat spicy but im sure if you wanted it you could ask! my friend unfortunately did not have a one way ticket to Thailand with his order of Padthai, instead he described it as too soupy and soy suacy, i cannot speak for this but visually, his padthai was very soupy. Not sure why my original post was auto removed but this was on opening day and I'm still in love with the place! We finally have Thai food in San Angelo!!!!! At the ribbon cutting for Chang Thai today, the house filled out. Standing room only 45 mins into opening. And it was worth the wait! Next time I will make mine a lot spicier as i am a Thai food lover, but the flavor was all there. Not disappointed in the least. While visiting San Angelo we were introduced to Chang Thai by my in-laws who know my wife & I love Thai food... oh boy did it live up to their hype. Service was great... food came out fresh and hot! Spice level ( Thai hot) was legit love the burn of the curry kept me coming back for more! We ordered four appetizers and each was fantastic. It's BYOB which was wonderful we had ice cold drinks that didn't cost us a fortune. Loved the laid back atmosphere. Ordered the Papaya Salad with a side of shrimp. It was simple, delicious, and authentic. It was served with sticky rice. Didn't enjoy the thick slice of cabbage though. The spicy was actually spicy and I got the mild level which was awesome and unexpected. Glad I didn't order Thai level spicy. I might just be particular, but I wish they cut off the ends of the tomato. Lastly, this was a very pricey papaya salad, but I guess this is a very niche, small business in this small town. I tried the half roasted duck yesterday and it was excellent. I've eaten duck at restaurants many times and this was one of the best that I've had. The owners are also very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend giving Chang Thai a try and look forward to trying the new items that will be coming to the menu soon. read more
