Yesterday was the middle of my teeth replacement journey. I had an upper molar removed (elsewhere)…read moreJan 2020 and my lower back molar removed last year due to an abscess under it, which Dr. Gregory Thomas removed. It was my first encounter with a new oral surgeon. After deciding to not get braces to correct slight imperfection in my bite, I moved ahead which double-surgery. (Can't move implants is why braces first.) An upper left and lower right implant- both at the same surgery. (For me it was the best decision ever, honestly.) Dr. Thomas is cool as a cucumber. His presence is super-calming. He, of course, had to give me local injections in my gums, but numbed me SO well I felt hardly any of it. (Keep in mind...I'm a HUGE baby.) I did not flinch but made one or two whimpers. (Did not mean to, but natural reaction.) The gals he works with are totally in sync with him. Effortlessly in-sync surgery team. The high-tech gadgets & screen (see pic) were totally impressive and reassuring that he was seeking best placement of implant screws and also avoiding my sinus which was very near to where the upper implant needed to go. Pain during procedure? Nope, not once. If I ever had to have this surgery again, lemme tell you, there's only ONE person for this job!! Dr. Thomas is the guy. The surgery he said would be 1hr to 1hour 15 min. Dead on. I had no clue exactly what was going on during the procedure until the drill part. And even if he told me, I kinda blocked it out. Upper was more brain vibration, but I found bottom more difficult cuz you are getting a lot of pressure on movable jaw. Not painful, just a bit of a muscule workout. I got a call later in the day yesterday from his team to make sure I was okay. I had started my antibiotics the day prior, as he requested, and took one Naproxen 500. It was all I needed. Even this morning I'm pain-free, but still took Naproxen500 as a "just in case" situation. I had a bit of mashed potatoes last night so I could take the antibiotic with food, but no hard solids for a few days. No problem. If you are like me, I work out, I got it in my gym visit before surgery, as I cannot work out for 3 days post op. No straws is also an typical oral surgery restriction for 3 days. COST: Each patient case is different. I went into the office a week prior and got prepped with x-rays and these funky clips I had to wear during surgery (part of the high tech surgery). Not painful, not annoying, just part of it. Panoramic xray for bone level checks. All was great! Woohoo! Plus, he called my new dentist's office to find out which implant post she prefers to work with. (There are choices.) He found me at checkout, and said he was thrilled they chose the best of the choices. (Dr. Thomas explained he has several posts to choose from, and 3 are his top favorites for several reasons.) I paid upfront for all of the pre-op work at just a smidge over $400. Yes, yesterday's bill was a lot higher, BUT I priced it out against my insurance allowance (he's out of network for all dental plans) and it was in line with my insurance allowable. ADVICE: check how your insurance pays for out of network care. Mine pays the same but the dentist can charge anything. Again, Dr. Thomas' bill per tooth was in-line with the in-network dentists. Plus, I'm unsure if I had gone to an in-network DDS if they would be as compassionate and capable as Dr. Thomas. Yes, I did pay the full amount upfront, and yes, they did bill my dental insurance on my behalf. Would I choose another oral surgeon? Nope, not as of today. I'm glad this is over, and i have post-op visit next week. Then I wait months for healing and then 2 teeth will be up next. That will be from my new dentist, Dr. Priyanka Patel in Lincoln Park at Rooted Care.

The dental/medical team needs to know about or have direct experience with MG.....Dr. Thomas did and does. I admitted to being a nervous wreck during the consult and actual procedure, however Dr. Thomas talked me through the entire procedure....here are just a few of the things that impressed me about him: --He researched drugs that would be safe given my medical issue --Then he contacted my neurologist to confirm the meds and procedure were safe for me. --The topical formula used to numb the gums was so effective, I didn't feel the initial needle prick....remember huge weenie here. --Lastly, he believes in God as do I and freely admits it......what a joy!!! Dr. Thomas is truly amazing. If you decide to see him...say 'hi from Gwen'. I've had a few procedures performed by him and the experiences have been the same....stellar.

Everyone was neutral. No one was nice, no one was rude, everyone was just meh. That's fine. I was sat down with who I believe to be Joan to discuss billing for my wisdom teeth removal. She informed me that insurance would cover 0% of my procedure and that $3,000 was owed before the surgery. Visibly upset, I reassured her that I was not upset with her and that I know she cannot do anything. I asked her what I can do. In an impatient and apathetic manner, she tells me to call my insurance and read them the codes on the sheet of paper I had just signed and ask them why they won't cover it. Cool, I'll do that. She brings me to the front and tells me I owe $120. For a copay? For what? Why wasn't I warned? Why didn't anyone tell me before or charge me before providing this service? I did not consent nor was I even close to aware of a possibility of a copay this large. While I am asking these questions, I'm being presented with dismissive comments. "This is just the way we do things here ma'am" etc. I told her I will not be paying out of pocket as I cannot afford to. I then ask for a copy of the paper that I signed that had the insurance codes written so I can take my business elsewhere. She tells me "No, you need to leave." After I mentioned that I have the right to own a copy of a document that I signed, she told me she would email it to me. I told her that I will wait until she emails it to leave. I call a family member in the waiting room expressing my sadness surrounding the situation-- this is a service I need and I cannot have done. The front desk worker, Jenessa, tells me, in a raised voice, that I need to leave and I cannot be in the building. After reiterating that I am a patient waiting for documents, she asked Joan to promptly send the document so I can leave the premises. After waiting for approximately 45 minutes, I asked Jenessa if printing the document would be easier or faster. She told me the situation was none of her business and to ask Joan. Joan explained that I was not a priority patient and she had more important work to do. As I was walking away, I (I think rightfully) expressed that there are multiple workers capable of sending me what I need. Jenessa then continued to raise her voice at me repeatedly. I told her the matter did not concern her. After waiting another 20 minutes for my document, I, with tears in my eyes, told Joan that person to person this is an extremely important document. It will allow me to receive an important surgery and I would appreciate if she would send it to me. I told her I would be leaving and I trust that she will. While walking out, Jenessa, the front desk worker, was laughing at my emotion and vulnerability. I peeked around a corner to look. She then proceeded to SCREAM profanities. I was speechless. She began to stand up, walk over to me, and scream as if she wanted to physically harm me. Her coworkers had to physically restrain her. I immediately left the premises. Not only did Ora leave me with surprise charges, their desk workers met me with no empathy, patience, or compassion. They brought hostility and aggression (physical and verbal). I think Ora needs to have some serious improvement when it comes to their financial transparency as well as their hiring process. The receptionist at my oral surgeon office should not attempt to physically assault me. I did get the document via email.

The office was super modern and the other employees each told me how happy they were to be working there. The actual extraction was a breeze, much to my surprise. I am certainly sorry if anyone needs this kind of service, but if it has to been done, Ora is where to go. It is a fun place ironically.

I don't even know where to begin, this was truly a 10/10 experience…read more I came in for an emergency dental visit, and they took me in immediately, no hassle, no runaround. Even though the office was clearly busy, I never once felt rushed or like just another patient on a list. The entire team was incredibly attentive and genuinely focused on making sure I was comfortable and okay. I ended up needing a crown, and they handled everything right then and there, no temporary fix, no waiting weeks for a crown. The fact that they were able to complete the entire procedure on the spot was impressive on its own, but what stood out even more was the quality of the work and the care behind it. Jackie and Dr. Rob were exceptional. They walked me through everything, made sure I felt at ease, and checked in constantly throughout the process. For something that could have been stressful, they made it seamless. I'm beyond grateful for the level of professionalism, efficiency, and compassion I experienced. Couldn't recommend them more. Thank you again! Ps: even got an eye mask and hand mask to relax later!

I had a mixed but ultimately negative experience with this provider and would not return…read more At my initial visit, there were some early concerns. The doctor repeatedly emphasized how busy he is, which came across as rushed and somewhat dismissive. Before proceeding with treatment (Botox for TMJ), I reached out via email and phone with specific questions, including a request for him to consult with my neurologist, which my neurologist recommended. I was told that the doctor deemed the consultation unnecessary and that he would address any questions at the time of the appointment. I was also told he was too busy to review my questions in advance. This made it difficult to feel fully informed or confident going into the procedure. I decided to pursue the procedure anyway. To his credit, during the procedure he did answer my questions and agreed to treat the requested area. However, at my two-week follow-up, I reported increased pain that had been impacting my ability to work and function. The doctor shared a story about another patient he described as someone who complains all the time. The story felt indirect but strongly implied that patient concerns like mine might be exaggerated. This made me feel uncomfortable and dismissed at a time when I was seeking support and clarity about worsening symptoms. Additionally, while in the waiting room, I observed another patient being questioned in a similarly dismissive tone when she asked for additional help post-treatment. This reinforced my concern about how patient concerns are handled in this practice. Overall, while the procedure itself was completed, the communication style, lack of responsiveness beforehand, and dismissive handling of post-procedure concerns made this a negative experience. I would encourage others to ask detailed questions in advance and consider whether this practice is a good fit for them. Long-term results of my treatment experience are yet to be determined, but I will not be returning due to the unprofessional manner in which the provider speaks about, and to, patients.
