My Dentist referred me to Dr. Spector. During my consultation he explained the entire procedure carefully and spent time with me. This was the first time I saw him and his office, but it should be a model for all medical offices. The front desk staff is awesome, efficient and willing to explain any of your concerns in email, on the phone or at the office. This was my first experience with IV sedation and Dr. Spector & staff made it a very pleasant, painless experience. Dr Spector is very diligent. He has the patience needed for his line of work. Besides expertise he has (impressive academic credentials, close to 40 yrs of practical experience) he still has a zeal for what he does. It takes a lot of energy to explain options of treatment, meticulous process of treatment itself, what to expect post procedure. He has pleasant attitude/vibe and decent sense of humor. I personally find kindness and sense of humor in health care professionals comforting. For those who have no dental insurance he's definitely not the most affordable dentist out there. Better be ready to part ways with a big chunk of your savings. I'm happy and grateful I found him (thanks Google!) and hope to proceed with the treatment needed as soon as I win the lottery. I love everyone in this office! They're so friendly, helpful, informative and clean! I've been to other dentists before and it seems like they're all about either rushing me out or up-selling me w/ something that I don't need or care about. Here, they tell it as it is and they don't mention anything unnecessary unless I bring it up (like whitening). Plus, they ensure that I'm fully comfortable w/ their advice and welcome/suggest the idea of me getting a second opinion, rather than insisting that I must get the procedure done ASAP, or else! In addition, one thing that I love is that they ensure that my insurance can cover the bill and that I have enough flex spending funds available to spend on the discussed procedure. The previous dentist I went to didn't cover much of that, were very brief when I asked about costs beforehand and then presented me a huge bill after the appointment. This place is NOT like that. I recently had two wisdom teeth removed. It was one of the worst experiences of my life, due to Coleman losing his temper during the operation. I was fully aware (on laughing gas) but I wasn't able to move my head to the position he wanted as quickly as he wanted. He snapped at me, exasperated. Throughout the procedure, he was audibly frustrated -- not comforting when a person is using a hammer-like tool to loosen your teeth. At his more composed moments, he'd make jokes that only raised my anxiety, e.g. "I should find a new line of work". He also snapped at a couple of his assistants, which I found troubling. Afterward, he did not apologize and only reiterated how difficult my mouth was. The outcome will likely be successful, and this terrible experience had receded in my memory. However, I recently received an unexpected bill in the mail, after they charged my credit card the day of the operation. read more

Dr. Spector is amazing. I called on a Friday morning trying desperately to get in somewhere to have 1 wisdom tooth extracted. I was in some terrible pain and it was causing a throat and ear infection... not good. I wasn't having any luck finding a dentist that could get me in on short notice. Finally I got lucky and was referred to Dr. Coleman Spector. The receptionist was extremely nice and was able to get me an appointment in only 2 hours from the time I called. They were able to look up my insurance and process everything quickly. I was so happy when I got to the office because it was so easy to get to (right off the Brown line) on Belmont Ave. The receptionist was very nice and although I had to wait an hour or so to see the Doctor it didn't matter. Dr. Spector was a very nice and down to earth doctor. He had an assistant who was a student at De Paul who was really nice and professional as well. We chatted for a bit and he went over in detail what was going on with my mouth and all of my options. This guy is very thorough and has a very calming affect. I completely understood my options and one of the receptionists came in right before the procedure to tell me exactly what the cost would be with my insurance. It wasn't that much - for 1 wisdom tooth extraction I only paid $115 out of pocket. The procedure was quick and painless. I am not kidding, I had no idea he had even pulled the tooth out. I never felt a thing and I was out of there in no time. Dr. Spector even called me that night to see how I was doing. I was able to answer the call but I got the nicest voice mail from him to see how I was feeling and to call the office if I had any questions/concerns. I absolutely recommend Dr. Coleman Spector and if I ever have any need for an oral surgeon again I know where I am going. read more

BEWARE with front desk, keep all your receipts and always double check how much you are being charged. Dr Spector is a very nice man and overall good dentist and is the only reason he's getting 1star. He failed for almost two years to complete my dental procedure as he had planned. I deposited 9k in cash and to my stupidity never received a receipt because i trusted him and the system. After stalling for almost a year, i didn't end up getting the work done so i asked for a refund. The refund that was given to me was 3k short. I know i gave the office 9k because i walked in with all 20s and it took 3 people to count it. Also month before Dr Spector and I went thru a very deep explanation on what he was going to work on and how i pretty much had it covered. He showed me how much i had in my account. Unfortunately, i did not have anything to prove that i gave the front desk $9,000 in cash. So I instantly knew i couldn't do anything about it. I tried to talk to the front desk and called numerous times to have Dr Spector call me. After receiving my refund I didn't know what to do besides mention it to my regular dentist. Dr. Spector never contacted me and did not ask if i ever wanted to complete my procedure. I know I'm at fault for not having any proof but after reading a couple reviews and noticing other people had problems with the front desk i knew i had to share my experience with everyone. I think this is my first review and i hate it had to be a bad one but almost 2 years later i got it out off my chest. read more

I was referred to Dr. Spector by my dentist. Dr. Spector was able to diagnose my issue and help me right on the spot! He is friendly, caring, explained everything thoroughly (even drew pictures), and kept me distracted as he knew I was nervous. He ended up doing the procedure right then and there (it was minor), and talked me through every step of the way. He had very clear follow up instructions and even called me later that day to see how I was doing. He is clearly very knowledgable but he really blew me away with just how wonderful he is! Ilana, Dr. Spector's assistant, is also awesome and was very friendly and reassuring. Overall, both Dr. Spector and Ilana made this not-so-great situation as positive as possible! In a consult appointment with Dr. Coleman Spector a month ago I learned I had to have 5 teeth extracted. I expressed my anxiety about having the surgery. To allay my fears he fully explained the surgical process and patiently answered all of my questions. He told me he wanted me to have a good experience. I had the surgery today and Dr. Spector and his staff did not disappoint. I arrived very nervous and they calmed me down. Dr. Spector explained each step as he performed it. Along the way through the procedure he gave me lots of encouragement and calming words. They made sure I was sufficiently recovered from sedation before I left, and they provided detailed, understandable post surgery instructions. In sum, Dr. Spector delivered on his promise of a good experience. I highly recommend him and his team. read more

Had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled about 2 months ago and WOW Dr. Spector is really good at what he does!!! During the consultation he went over absolutely everything and answered all my questions. Not once did I feel rushed nor pressured! I was schedule about 2 weeks after the consult and I won't lie, I was freaking nervous but everything went by so smoothly! I woke up completely in awe that they were all out and the recovery process wasn't so bad either. A little swelling but nothing I couldn't handle. Dr. Spector also called me that night to check up on how I was doing which I truly appreciated! I was referred to Dr. Spector whom also practices at Lakeview Dental Associates by Dr. Emalfarb whom is the owner at Lakeview Dental because I needed an extraction for a tooth that was cracked to the root. He performed the extraction along with a bone graft which amounted in $1000 total out of pocket! I ended up with two more visits because after the extraction, my left jaw was extremely swollen. I looked like I had a tennis ball in the side of my mouth and was in extreme pain. Additionally, Dr. Spector also made me so uncomfortable with the comments he would make during the procedure calling me names such as whimp and sissy while he was doing the extraction. Me being the nice and soft-spoken person that I am did not say anything at the time. Dr. Spector is probably the worst healthcare professional I have ever encountered. This is a dentist that I definitely would never go back to and would not recommend to anyone....EVER!!!! read more

I am a mutant freak of nature. Most people get 4 wisdom teeth removed at some point... Me? I have, by genetic lottery, SIX wisdom teeth. My Dad (the one I inherited this not so desirable trait from) tells me to suck it up- he recovered in two days w/o painkillers and with none of the sissy gas. Scary. Did I mention he's in law enforcement? Macho is an Italian word... I digress, I apologize. Dr. Coleman was recommended to remove my freakish, impacted extra teeth that were causing pain and headaches. When I brought in a two page typed list of questions he was incredibly calming, not at all patronizing, thorough and helpful. I truly felt he was the right surgeon for the job. And I'm going with the I.V. Call me sissy-pants, I don't want to feel a thing... and i have a low pain tolerance. UPDATE: Had the surgery this morning. Whew! This office is really fantastic, experienced, great professionals. I am woozy for sure- but the only pain I feel is in one bottom socket (grew horizontal, impacted, on a nerve, thus pain was expected). Totally Manageable and in addition- seriously less painful than my previous headaches. More painful: my daytime recovery programming- the soap operas and VH1 reality shows i can't seem to escape... those might take longer to recover from... FINAL UPDATE: Healed Beautifully. No Pain! Expensive, yes, but even the payment plan was set up easily with 0% interest. All I really had to do was follow the instructions (lots of salt water rinses) and I've got a clean bill of health and a pretty smile (pretty face too- I see cheekbones!) to show for it! Awesome! Completely awesome. Dr Spector is great. I had the pleasure of having my wisdom teeth pulled by him! When I went in for my consult, he was very nice in explaining the procedure and letting me know how it was going to happen, the pain I may or may not feel - and any potential complications. He took the time to detail all my options as far as pain relief during the surgery. Anesthesia, nitrous, etc. i opted to get laughing gassed and knocked out - might as well go for the whole shebang right? So, when I came in for the surgery - knowing full well that my insurance I had at the time was going to basically be useless when paying for the anesthesia and nitrous - I made a last minute decision and went just with the nitrous... and I am glad I did! I got a couple shots in the mouth to numb the pain, then the laughing gas kicked in, and honestly - I felt NO pain whatsoever. I was awake, and mostly coherent throughout the surgery and was not bothered by it at all. The doctor took the time to explain what he was doing - and also attempted to make small talk while I tried responding with my numb mouth... probably pretty comical. Anyway - I have recommended Dr. Spector to several people in need of oral surgery. He is a dedicated oral surgeon who deserves nothing but praise - and I would definitely see him again for any ailments of my chompers! read more

I originally planned to write a novel but I'll try and keep it concise. I had to have 4 wisdom teeth removed, one fully impacted, two partially impacted and one fully erupted. I chose IV Sedation cause I'm a wuss and didn't want to pass out from the noise and pain. I made a consultation on a Wednesday and by Friday they were out. I opted for their financed payment plan so I will be paying for this surgery for the next 12 months, bummer. But sedation was totally worth it for me. Pros: Immediate scheduling Thorough consultation (2 hours!) Clear communication Doctor is VERY responsive (He's called me plenty to check on me) Dental Assistants very nice Little to no wait Walking distance from the Belmont Brown Line Cons: Hard to find parking Small space Overall, my recovery has been going well. I had a scare 4 days post surgery and they scheduled me within the hour so Dr. Spector could check me out. I was fine and he reassured me while injecting some gross tasting brown stuff into my dry socket to fill it in (he did give me a heads up that it wasn't going to taste good). I didn't swell up like a chipmunk, yay! And I hope by this time next week I will be fully healed. Very happy with my experience and would highly recommend Dr. Spector. read more

Don't ask how, but somehow wisdom is correlated to that last set of teeth - aptly named wisdom teeth. The more teeth you have the wiser you are, and as you age and your brain capacity declines you also lose your teeth - it is a scientific fact, well not really. I recently had 4 wisdom teeth removed (3 were impacted) by Dr. Spector. I chose him based on Yelp reviews. This surgeon is the consummate professional - truly excels at what he does. I went in for a consultation. Dr. Spector took about an hour explaining the pros and cons of having surgery, the various forms of anesthesia along with what he would recommend, and how he would extract the teeth. I felt extremely at ease as his explanations were easy to understand and he answered all my questions. Dr. Spector along with the staff were very helpful as I battled my insurance company to get them to cover the procedure. Finally, after slugging it out with the insurance company the day of my surgery arrived. Dr. Spector got me started on nitrous gas. He then started an IV, administered the local anesthetic and within a few seconds my eye lids got heavy, my eyes closed and I was enjoying one of the best naps of my life. I woke up pain free and actually felt pretty darn good albeit just slightly dizzy. His staff called in a prescription for some pain pills and an antibiotic. Within an hour of returning home I felt completely fine - fully coherent and pain free. Dr. Spector called me later that evening to check on me. I had minimal swelling the next day on one side of my face. The swelling was completely gone by the following day. Aside from slight gum soreness I was completely fine. The first 2 days I was eating soft foods, by day 3 I was able to enjoy sandwiches. Dr. Spector is unbelievable. He is an extremely skilled and experienced surgeon with excellent bed side manner, and can make your surgery painless and your recovery time minimal. If you need to have your wisdom teeth out this is the doctor that should do it. read more

I have read a few of the reviews below and I feel bad that patients have had a bad experience with Dr. Spector. I cannot say that I am one of them. I actually MADE a Yelp account just to write a review on Dr. Coleman Spector (and no, he nor his office asked me to do so). I am a 23 year old woman who moved to Chicago shortly after college graduation. Being 21 at the time, I had already had a lifetime's worth of dental work done including 6 years of braces, 2 root canals, a dozen baby and adult teeth pulled, multiple fillings, crowns, and 2 surgeries that involved general anesthesia. I had the unfortunate luck of being born without any enamel on my teeth, hence my laundry list of dental procedures and a lifetime aversion to the dental chair! I mention all of this because as you can imagine, I have encountered my fair share of Dentists, Orthodontists, and Oral Surgeons. I've lived in 3 different cities and had multiple dentists and surgeons for my issues. Dr. Spector is HANDS DOWN the BEST dentist/oral surgeon I have ever had! He is not only extremely informative about all of your options and describes in full detail what the process will look like, but he is relatable and makes you feel comfortable. Any worries or issues you have, he will address with you and ease your anxiety. I had been referred to him for two emergency extractions by my general dentist and Dr. Spector and his staff were nothing but comforting and helpful during the process. Getting an extraction, bone graft, and 2 posts is a long and overwhelming process. He made me feel comfortable with the best option for me being so young and needing these posts to last (hopefully) 50+ years. Almost 8 months later, the process is almost over and I could not be happier with my results! I understand every dentist or oral surgeon isn't going to gel with every patient but this is a professional, well run office with an Oral Surgeon who knows what he is doing and will go above and beyond for his patients. So I have not been to a dentist in 2+ years since I got pregnant and motherhood got in the way. Had an extremely annoying wisdom tooth, and went to dr Spector for an extraction. Turns out it was impacted and had to be taken out; it was causing an infection. He made me feel so comfortable and explained what was going on in my mouth, and today I had the procedure done. Dr. Coleman is awesome. Read the other reviews for extended details, but in short, he's nice, professional, knowledgeable and calming. I came to have 3 wisdom teeth removed. He called twice over the few days after my surgery to check one me- once before the anesthesia had even worn off. I woke up with dry socket and called him immediately. I got in right away and he fixed me up all over again. His staff are nice and very patient with me and my crappy insurance. After my first visit, the front desk girls recognized me every time I walked in and said hi. All and all, about as good an experience as teeth removal could be. read more

Dr. Spector is a modern day ninja. My experience was so absurdly positive, I feel like the FDA should require me to add a RESULTS NOT TYPICAL disclaimer before I discuss it. At no point did I experience anything that could be described as pain. Just a tiny bit of discomfort. Zero swelling. I had my wisdom teeth out on Friday. On Saturday, among other things, I ate chili, a pickle, and then went out for Ethiopian food. On Sunday I ate a bagel with cream cheese. People at work think I just pretended to get my wisdom teeth out so I could take Friday off. Oh, and also, my glasses broke just before the procedure and someone in his office re-glued them while I was unconscious. I kid you not! If I ever need heart surgery, I am going to insist on having Dr. Spector DDS there as a consult. read more

I had put getting my wisdom teeth removed off for the last five years or so, then finally got the resolve to do it, and found Dr. Spector on Yelp. He was great. He is very nice and professional, as is his office staff. I got all 4 taken out on Monday,under general anesthesia, and was back to work by Wednesday. I had mild soreness and puffiness, but nothing that was terrible. Thursday I had some more severe pain, so I called this morning, and was scheduled in for this afternoon. Both times he was patient, and explained everything that he did, and that was going on with my mouth. I had minor dry sockets (he said it was the first dry sockets he'd seen since December), so he put in the clove oil dressing, and everything is fine now. He even advised me to call him at home tomorrow (Saturday), if I have recurring pain in the morning, and he will call in a prescription for me. I highly recommend him for any oral surgery procedures you need done; he does a fantastic job, and is willing to go out of his way to make sure you are comfortable. read more

Best experience! I had a tooth ache - they got me in immediately, and ended up pulling a wisdom tooth out during the visit. Since I was already in pain from the tooth ache - I was concerned about pulling a tooth out. He was so sweet about it, making sure I was as comfortable as possible. He called me later that night to check on me - and made sure I was ok. I went back in for a FREE follow up appt and I was doing great. (I had to wait for an infection to heal before getting the other 3 wisdom teeth removed.) No matter what he finds time for his patients. He also is VERY thorough with how and what he is doing to your mouth. The staff are extremely friendly as well. My company doesn't provide dental insurance so I had to pay out of pocket - but you get what you pay for. I had a dry socket from one of the wisdom teeth I had taken out and he saw me for 3 follow up appts (FREE), answered all my calls, and refilled Rxs as needed. Although mouth surgery isn't the most pleasant thing - at some point you are going to have to get something done, and Dr. Spector has an AMAZING bedside manner, his staff are friendly and knowledgeable as well. I came here to get all 4 wisdom teeth and a destroyed molar removed (5 teeth). Im so happy that I chose to come here! I was very scared but in agony at the same time. Dr. Coleman Spector was funny and very informative which put me at ease. The worrying about getting it done was worse than the procedure itself. When i woke up he was done. I called in today to ask some questions and how much it would be around to get my wisdom tooth removed. And first thing i got was a very very very rude operator for no reason. I seriously just wanted to ask if the doctor is in or someone i can talk too and the lady was so irritated like i was just cursing her out when i just ask one simple question? She ask me if i was a patient, which i wasn't and made me feel like stupid for calling to ask question. what the hell lady maybe i called because my tooth is bothering me and i wanted my tooth pulled? Ever thought of that? Never would i ever go here after this incident where a person treats you like crap becuase ur not *yet* a patient. I gave this place a call becuase of the reviews i read here but since their service was so bad i don't think i would even try calling again. I called this one other dental place right after and this really nice receptionist explain to me everything, how much it might cost *because i don't have insurance and I've been saving over a month so get my wisdom teeth pulled *, and she even set me an appointment the next day because i told her my toothach. I tell anyone and everyone that needs their wisdom teeth removed to call Dr. Spector's office. From the consultation to the actual procedure, I felt like I was in the right hands. He very clearly explained the procedure and how he would need to perform it on my teeth. Two of my teeth were impacted, one very close to the nerve, so he tried to explain how it would be a bit trickier. But I didn't worry - and I was right not to. Everyone in the office was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. The procedure seemed to go by in just a few minutes, and I had little pain. Dr. Spector called me twice after the surgery - once the evening of and once the following day. But by the following day, I was feeling great. I even ate a sandwich two days after my surgery with little problem! I just recommended Dr Spector to my roommate and, after hearing my review and seeing all of the Yelp reviews, she immediately made an appointment. read more

I didn't want to have my wisdom teeth out. My regular dentist told me I had two cavities. I wanted someone to tell me they'd fill 'em, that I didn't need surgery. After 5 minutes with Dr. Spector, I was yelling 'alright, take them out!' He showed me just how bad they really were, and told me how much worse it could get. I felt we had a good rapport - his joke telling and snarking back at me put me at ease - so I booked the surgery for a week later. I have a fear of anethesia, so I didn't want to go under. After telling me that if I squirmed once while awake he'd stop the surgery, I consented to go under. There was no need to worry. I had the surgery, woke up, and felt fine. No swelling, no pain, just a numb lower lip which is almost completely fine now, 12 hours post op. I didn't touch the vicodin he prescribed, the ibuprofen, at least so far, is doing the trick. Highly recommended - if you need an oral surgeon, he's your guy. ETA: Ok, I'm now 24 hours post-op, and I have no pain, no numbness, and if I had bothered to set my alarm, I totally could have gone to work. I don't even need to take ibuprofen today. That's what i call a good surgeon! read more

Dr. Coleman Spector is great! I got all four wisdom teeth removed recently and I felt great. He joked with me when he was telling me about the procedure, but answered all of my questions with a wry sense of humor. During the procedure itself, he was very professional and the aftercare was excellent. I had been putting off getting these removed and I am glad I went to Dr. Spector. My only complaint was with the billing service. There was some confusion about what I owed even though I paid in full, and it took a few phone calls to clear up. I'm very torn on how to address this issue. I have been to Dr. Spectors office for many visits over the course of 2 procedures. I have spent a few thousand dollars - easily - and I'm confident I have more work to go that will require an oral surgeon. But, it will not be Dr. Spector. My complaints have far less to do with Dr. Spector than with his front-office staff. My last procedure was an extraction and implant. During the last portion of the procedure I made my *final* payment and was informed by the doctor and the front-office that all follow-up was included. Fast forward a few months and I started receiving invoices for x-rays taken during follow-up. The balance was roughly $52. I informed them that all follow-up was to be included in my final payment. They acknowledged I was told that - but that only included "physical appointments" and not x-rays. Despite them also acknowledging that the x-rays were standard operating procedure for my final-up. There was nothing unusual about my case causing me to need additional services. So, they either omitted the truth or blatantly lied. They finally told me they would waive the invoice - but I would be prevented from receiving any additional follow-up appointments (which would be one) and not welcome back to the office. So, because they cannot be upfront about their billing I am being denied adequate treatment. In addition, it's a poor business decision to throw away a future patient over $52 that should have been included in the final payment! Now, this is, of course, a matter of principle for me. After a couple thousand dollars of treatment the office was trying to extract another $52 from me. I would not be interested in returning even if they offered. I was planning on emailing their office my complaints and CC'ing my regular dentist about my frustration and unethical billing practices - but Yelp and a private conversation with my long-term dentist must suffice since they do not publicize an email address... read more

I have been to maybe 5 different dentists in my life and most of those experiences ranged from decent to horrible, most of the time it was horrible. The last time I went to the dentist I experienced the most extreme pain I have ever felt. This time was different however, I had to have a painful tooth extracted and it was a literally was painless. So far I've had three of my "wisdoms" taken out by Dr. Spector and must say that my experiences there have been as good as you're going to get for having somebody rip out something from your body. The first appointment which was the consult, was about four months ago so I'm going by memory. Location is great since it's close to both the Belmont #77 and Red/Brown/Purple Belmont lines. It took a while to be called/seated in the room, which I had expected having worked at other dental offices in the past. During the consult Dr. Spector took the time to go over everything (work to be done, options for anesthesia, payments, insurance breakdown, etc), which I really appreciated because I knew it would be rather costly. Overall, my first impression of the dentist and office was a positive one. At my second appointment I was able to get the extraction done with surprisingly minimal pain. It was my first time having a tooth removed so I did not know what to expect, but everything turned out to be fine. His assistant was really nice and we chatted for a bit (congratulations to her for the birth of her baby, btw!). Later that night I was sort of surprised that Dr. Spector called at around 8pm to check how everything was. I had written down my number at the appointment but didn't think he'd actually call. I thought that was very considerate. That night and the morning after the only discomfort I had was a dull pain and the annoying stitches being a little loose. Yesterday's appointment was a little more difficult as it involved a rather deeply impacted lower wisdom tooth. The upper wisdom came out easily, at least it seemed that way to me. The bottom one-not so much. But throughout the appointment Dr. Spector kept me aware of what was happening to help settle my nerves. The only downside was that I felt extremely sick/nauseated but that was because of the pain medicine I was prescribed. Overall, I would strongly recommend Dr. Spector and his office. read more

As petrified as I was about the prospect of a tooth extraction, in retrospect it was the only option. Dr. Spector lays it all out for you during his consultation...the procedure, the cost, the aftermath.....definitely thorough and experienced. The big surprise for me was how relatively pain-free I felt afterwards. Sure. I had pain-killers but I didn't need them all! He also phoned later in the day to check on my recovery. Dr. Spector is fun, open, friendly and professional and does a fantastic job with wisdom teeth surgery. I had had a terrible experience with another office that was rude, abrupt and expensive that I decided to get a second opinion and went to Dr. Spector's office. I am so glad that I did. There was a little confusion with scheduling the consultation, but his office staff are always curteous no matter who's mistake it may have been. I was in their system for two different appointments two days in a row, neither of them were the appointment I booked. But they were great about getting me in at a time that worked for me. I had to bring my x-rays from the previous consultation and Dr. Spector didn't think they were clear enough, to save me tons of money he found a way to x-ray the way back teeth he needed without doing a full head x-ray. He was concerned about the placement of my nerves being very close to the root of the wisdom tooth. The consultation was informative, thorough and about 30 minutes long. He explained everything in terms I could understand and made me extremely comfortable about the surgery and I was NERVOUS about getting it done. The day of the surgery he was so relaxing that I just drifted off and only remember chattering away with him (probably very stupidly) until the anesthesia kicked in. After some gas, I think I was telling him all about my boyfriend and he actually pretended to be amused with a smile. The staff helping was also very kind and sweet. The night of the surgery he actually called me to see how I was doing which is amazing of a health care professional these days! I had a dry socket so I had called the office about a trilion times and they've brought me in twice and they are still so sweet and nice. One time Dr. Spector wasn't there and another dentist was very willing and kind about treating it so it wouldn't hurt. I have my last check up with him on Monday and I can't wait for him to tell me its all good! Definitely recommend him as a surgeon. I had a great experience considering its surgery! The billing was super easy and his services are what are resonable and customary. They definitely find the cheapest way for you to get the work done and I didn't need one, (because it was so inexpensive for surgery) but I believe they offer many options for payment plans. read more

Having just moved to Chicago not too long ago and hearing all the horror stories from people about their wisdom teeth I decided to turn to Yelp to find an oral surgeon. And I am sure happy that I did... Dr. Spector is the best. I had four (two top, two bottom) wisdom teeth removed and he did a fantastic job. I had very little pain and no problems whatsoever. He even called me at 10:30pm the day of my surgery to check up on me. By day two, I was sick of eating an all liquid/soft diet (although I did enjoy all the ice cream) and I was able to eat Thai food plus lots more. My face was barely even swollen. All around Dr. S is a nice guy and very relatable. I would highly recommend him! read more

I was referred to Dr. Spector by my regular dentist to have my bottom two wisdom teeth removed. His office is in a great location a block from the Belmont stop and when I called for a appointment I was able to get in within a week. The first visit was a consultation where I met the doctor and he did a exam to take a look at my wisdom teeth and also checked out everything else to make sure I was good to go (gums, my bite, no other issues etc). After that he went over the different options and pricing and we both decided that just doing the extraction under a local would be the way to go. A week later I was in the chair and all numbed up. When I did have some sensation / pain on the right side while he was pulling the tooth he immediately apologized and gave me more novocain to make sure I was comfortable. It took about 40 minutes and I left with a prescription for pain killers (there is a Walgreens across the street which is very handy). It's three weeks later now and I feel fine and would highly recommend anyone needing any sort of oral surgery to go here. Seriously, he is the best. Dr. Spector is a true professional, something so hard to find these days. He makes you feel at ease, explains everything, understands that people are usually deadly scared to get an oral surgery (he told me "you are not scared, you're just anxious, and have no reason to be")... I came there to consult a two teeth removal. I was in pain and very scared. Unbelievably, I left smiling, scheduling five teeth removal - he recommended that while being under general sedation, we can also remove my wisdom teeth. Made sense. I'm aware it sounds like selling tactic, but my teeth were in bad shape, crowded and in need to be fixed. I just took care of those useless wisdom teeth then, instead of later. Yes, later that day, when bragging that I'm going to have FIVE teeth removed at the same time, people felt I lost my mind, which made me suspicious they might be right... The surgery was painless, I slept through it. After, I had NO pain, NO swelling and NO bleeding at all ! In theory, five large teeth should leave five sore bleeding spaces behind. Not with this doctor. He gave me pain killers, I didn't need them. He called the same night to check on me, which was very nice. Everything healed in few days. He is my hero. read more

OMG!! Dr. Spector was AMAZING!!! I went in to get a molar extracted because it has been killing me for 2 weeks I have to admit i was freaking out. I hate going to the dentist but you can blame that on my childhood upbringing. I've always been so paranoid but Dr. Spector and his staff encouraged me to relax and that everything would be alright. I was scared to death but then Dr. Spector & Vickie plugged in that Nitrous and local anesthetic and that was a wrap. It was over before i knew it and I didn't feel a thing. He ended up removing 2. I had to get 2 wisdom teeth removed so my dentist referred me to Dr. Spector. It was super easy to schedule a consultation, and I also scheduled a date for the procedure at the same time just to get it out of the way. During my consultation, I had a panoramic x-ray done and Dr. Spector examined my teeth. He told me that I should actually get 6 teeth removed (all 4 wisdom teeth and 2 supernumerary teeth). He explained why, told me that I could of course just get the initial 2 wisdom teeth removed, and mentioned all of the risks involved. He was very thorough in explaining how the procedure would go and what my anesthesia options were. The front desk also gave me detailed price quotes for removing 2 teeth vs. removing 6 teeth, with various types of anesthesia. I appreciated the level of detail that I was provided and it certainly made it a lot easier for me to make a decision on what to do. I ended up getting all 6 teeth removed under IV sedation (I was not trying to be awake for that lol) and it was such a smooth experience. It was over in the blink of an eye and healing was a breeze. I didn't even need pain medication after a few days and I started eating solids after about a week. If I ever have to get another oral surgery (fingers crossed that I don't), I would definitely come here again! read more

I paid about $200, after my insurance to get one wisodm tooth out (I also had one consultation), but I have crappy insurance and I knew it would be expensive. I was also advised to get the gas or the iv, but novocaine was more than fine for the procedure. coleman was honest and up front about the fact that insurance does not cover anesthesia and explained the procedure in detail. coleman is a little cocky, but he knows what he's doing, so who cares? I think he means well. I would go back and recommend him. The only creepy thing is he has like ten signs in his waiting room telling you what is NOT allowed (no talking on the phone, etc.). read more

Dr. Spector is fantastic! And so is his office. My first wisdom tooth experience years ago with another doctor was pure Abu Ghraib so I was very apprehensive about having the procedure done again. Lucky for me, now there's Yelp! I click, click, clicked and found my way to Dr. Spector's Lakeview office. The front desk girls are awesome -- super friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. They got me in to see the doc for a consultation in a jiffy and were great about taking care of the scheduling, logistics, and insurance stuff. The doctor himself is phenomenal. Experienced and competent, plus professional and caring. He actually took over an hour with my initial visit, making notes of my entire medical history and even calling my physician to ask a few questions. Plus he very carefully went over all of my choices and the impeding surgery step by step. Unlike my first surgeon, he made me feel completely at ease and confident. I knew exactly what would happen and what to expect. All in all, the procedure was nearly painless from start to finish (so OK, I did go under all the way) but the recovery is what truly amazed me. Last time around I was bleeding for almost four days, in pain, and unable to eat. This time, I was snacking on apple sauce in about 12 hours, happy (and high) as a clam! Bottom line: if you need an oral surgeon, Dr. Coleman Spector is your man. If I had any more wisdom teeth left, I'd go right back to him. My only regret is I didn't find him sooner. read more

I would UNDOUBTEDLY recommend Dr, Coleman Spector to anyone looking for oral care or oral surgery. I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed just yesterday. He was able to, somehow, fit me in his schedule via referral, and made my experience (as someone who dislikes dental visits) very comfortable. I have had zero negative experiences or feeling from chair to home recovery. Dr Spector and his assistant Vicky made every step of the process relaxing and are very professional.
