If I could give 10 stars I would. Dr. Koos and his team are EXCELLENT. This is long, but please read! I am terrified of the dentist. Anything dental I absolutely despise. My dentist told me I needed a root canal. I did not want a root canal because the idea of having the nerves taken out of my tooth and having a dead tooth in my body sends shivers down my spine. So I elected to have my tooth removed. I had molar #2 (top farthest back right - needed the root canal) and my wisdom tooth (#1) taken out (the wisdom tooth had to come out with the molar). So begins my journey... My dentist set me up with their, in network, oral surgeon, who was only going to numb me. I said, "Absolutely not, I want to be asleep." Thus began researching oral surgeons. I initially found Dr. Koos but learned he did not take my HMO insurance (which is fine). I then booked a consultation with an oral surgeon, who did take my insurance, Dr. Parimal Sapovadia (Dr. Perry) - Who has HORRIBLE reviews on every website - at Park Dental Specialists in Lincoln Park (Chicago). After leaving the appointment at Park Dental Specialists, I had instant panic and extreme anxiety - all day, everyday. The female receptionist was the only positive part of this consultation. I canceled my appointment with Park Dental Specialists. Anyways...back to Dr. Koos. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I decided to book a consultation with Dr. Koos at Ora Oral Surgery. After making this decision, I immediately felt all of my anxiety go away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon arriving at Ora for my consultation, Sam, the receptionist sat down with me and walked me through all of the paperwork. She is kind, empathetic, and understanding of anxiety surrounding dental work.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Then I had my x-ray taken by a lovely woman, I can't remember her name, I want to say Nancy. She is a calming, warm individual. Then I met Dr. Koos, as other reviews have stated, he did not look in my mouth during the consultation, just at the x-ray. However, this man is wonderful, he addressed my many concerns and anxieties. I truly felt that I would have the best possible outcome with him. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After booking my appointment, I had ZERO anxiety right up until I was back at the office for surgery, which was just nerves because being put under anesthesia and having teeth pulled is a little bit scary.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Come the day of surgery, I arrived at the office and was greeted by Sam like we were old friends. She asked me how I was feeling (nervous, obviously). Sam made me feel incredibly comfortable, gave me an alcohol wipe to smell so that I wouldn't feel as nauseated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once in the operating room, I was given laughing gas (Nitrous Oxide), an anti-inflammatory steroid (not sure how it was mixed in), and was put to sleep. I don't remember anything after being put to sleep. I went to sleep and it felt like I was only out for 5 minutes when I began waking up in the operating room. I was then walked to a recovery room where my mom was brought in and I was given VERY CLEAR aftercare instructions. Dr. Koos stopped by to check in on me and answer any questions my mom or I had. Pain - Not a lot so far. Day of Surgery: I was still numb on the top right quadrant of my mouth and just a little sore. I'm assuming the soreness is from where the numbing shot was put in (they always make me really sore). I am stitched up with dissolvable (I requested this as I was nervous that the blood clot would fall out). I woke up relatively easily, felt like I'd had a few too many drinks. It is now approximately 5 hours later, I am home and resting. I feel very awake, I didn't really feel sleepy when I woke up from surgery, just unbalanced. But Dr. Koos' staff walked me to my car. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Evening after surgery: Dr. Koos called me personally after 7pm. Have you ever met a doctor who calls you from what I believe is his personal number? I haven't! He answered all of my questions. Dr. Koos is an extremely caring doctor![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Morning after surgery: Woke up a little sore - I didn't wake up in the middle of the night to take my ibuprofen, but took it in the morning with my antibiotic. My face is a little sore, the actual gum is not. I am assuming it's were Dr. Koos gave me the numbing shot (always causes a lot of pain, even when cavities are pulled). But overall, I'm feeling pretty good. Swelling - Surprisingly, I don't have any swelling. You honestly couldn't ask for a better oral surgeon. Dr. Koos is simply the best. All the staff at Ora Oral Surgery - Uptown Locarion (Clark and Lawrence) are incredible. If you are scared of the dentist, Dr. Koos is the best in town! Toplines: Don't Walk, (Run) Away from ORA Surgery and Implant Studio I think most people would agree, negative Yelp reviews shouldn't be thrown around if you had one bad experience at a crappy pizza place or maybe a restaurant where you landed a server that was just having a bad day. On the other hand, dental work in general, but especially the process of getting a dental implant and all of the phases and costs that go along with it, merits warning for others that are about to go down this road. How did I choose ORA Surgery? It was recommended to me by my dentist, who I really love and who represents quite the opposite of my experience here. Having not a clue as to how many appointments and how much money and time this was going to take, I didn't second guess or do my due diligence. That's on me. All in, I spent a fortune (over $6,000) out of pocket over a process of (over 3 years now) on an implant that failed and now I'm starting from square one. That doesn't include all the money they made from billing insurance, which it seems they stopped doing altogether from what I was told on my last and final visit. I thought I was going crazy, but I have seen some of the other reviews now it looks like I'm not alone. 1) ORA is way overpriced and the whole point is profit - not well-being, not customer satisfaction. I have now had time to do comparisons on rates for procedures with other providers and these rates (apples-to-apples) are way above the norm. They push the "boutique, LEED-certified, green, sustainable" claptrap on you to distract you from terrible service, price and results 2) MY IMPLANT FAILED LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER PLACEMENT - literally fell out of my jaw while I was sleeping - after I reported this, [[HIGHLIGHT]]THEY did not rush to get me in - I had to bug them (several times) to get back in[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 3) [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once I was able to get back in I was met with nothing more than a shoulder shrug, a restatement of "how rare" implant failures are, and a not-so-subtle inference that it must have been something (I did) to make the failure happen[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 4) [[HIGHLIGHT]]As of even a few months ago, I was having to call and BEG THEM to send over a treatment plan with estimates. Called, emailed twice, never received them[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 5) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff is insufferable - my process was long enough to see the front desk turnover TWICE. Rude wouldn't be the correct word - you can tell they have had complaints because you can physically see them biting their tongue to stop themselves from unloading.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]CREDIT: There were a couple "back of the house" assistants that were kind, professional, and seemed to understand that some patients may ask questions about why a procedure or timeline was necessary[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 6) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The disconnect between the front desk staff and the knowledge of financials (or even how to get an invoice) is so very suspicious, but I now realize it's probably the point.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 7) Good luck with any insurance - if they do submit they will remind you that the insurance probably won't pay, you have to pay them in full NOW, and they will do so in a way that says "we are doing you a really big favor" 8) You WILL get nickel and dimed. There is a 2% charge on cards - EVEN DEBIT! I asked if I could go grab some cash to avoid this (because who carries that much cash?) and they acted as if I were shoplifting 9) The process WILL NOT be explained to you, and they will shuttle you in to do an x-ray/exam/some other arcane procedure, and the main point is they want to do it before you find out how much it is going to cost you or if it's even necessary 10) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The general vibe of the experience: "You should be so lucky we are even going to see you, now please pay us and don't ask any questions"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Steer clear of this one, and I am imploring those that are about to start the implant process - take some time to do comparative research, it's a huge investment of time and money, and if you miss, it's a big miss. read more

I have never given a Yelp review for anything ever. After my experience here, I do not know what other direction to take this. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The first half of my experience was okay. Everyone was neutral. No one was nice, no one was rude, everyone was just meh.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That's fine. I was sat down with who I believe to be Joan to discuss billing for my wisdom teeth removal. She informed me that insurance would cover 0% of my procedure and that $3,000 was owed before the surgery. Visibly upset, I reassured her that I was not upset with her and that I know she cannot do anything. I asked her what I can do. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In an impatient and apathetic manner, she tells me to call my insurance and read them the codes on the sheet of paper I had just signed and ask them why they won't cover it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Cool, I'll do that. She brings me to the front and tells me I owe $120. For a copay? For what? Why wasn't I warned? Why didn't anyone tell me before or charge me before providing this service? I did not consent nor was I even close to aware of a possibility of a copay this large. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I am asking these questions, I'm being presented with dismissive comments. "This is just the way we do things here ma'am" etc.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I told her I will not be paying out of pocket as I cannot afford to. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I then ask for a copy of the paper that I signed that had the insurance codes written so I can take my business elsewhere. She tells me "No, you need to leave." After I mentioned that I have the right to own a copy of a document that I signed, she told me she would email it to me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I told her that I will wait until she emails it to leave. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I call a family member in the waiting room expressing my sadness surrounding the situation-- this is a service I need and I cannot have done. The front desk worker, Jenessa, tells me, in a raised voice, that I need to leave and I cannot be in the building.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After reiterating that I am a patient waiting for documents, she asked Joan to promptly send the document so I can leave the premises. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After waiting for approximately 45 minutes, I asked Jenessa if printing the document would be easier or faster. She told me the situation was none of her business and to ask Joan.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Joan explained that I was not a priority patient and she had more important work to do.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As I was walking away, I (I think rightfully) expressed that there are multiple workers capable of sending me what I need. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Jenessa then continued to raise her voice at me repeatedly. I told her the matter did not concern her.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After waiting another 20 minutes for my document, I, with tears in my eyes, told Joan that person to person this is an extremely important document. It will allow me to receive an important surgery and I would appreciate if she would send it to me. I told her I would be leaving and I trust that she will. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While walking out, Jenessa, the front desk worker, was laughing at my emotion and vulnerability. I peeked around a corner to look. She then proceeded to SCREAM profanities. I was speechless. She began to stand up, walk over to me, and scream as if she wanted to physically harm me. Her coworkers had to physically restrain her.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I immediately left the premises. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not only did Ora leave me with surprise charges, their desk workers met me with no empathy, patience, or compassion. They brought hostility and aggression (physical and verbal).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think Ora needs to have some serious improvement when it comes to their financial transparency as well as their hiring process. I had to have a tooth extracted because of an osteoporosis medication. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ora was magnificent. Starting with the front desk receptionist who was so helpful with filling out paperwork to Dr Koos , a dreaded experience turned out to be one filled with kindness and good humor[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The office was super modern and the other employees each told me how happy they were to be working there. The actual extraction was a breeze, much to my surprise. Would not recommend. Overcharged by 3x the amount. I went to ORA after reading all the positive reviews and hoped they would be a great option to continue my treatment plan which I had established and had been working on for years. I moved states and needed a new surgeon. The most problematic thing was that I called Ora and clearly asked how much my visit would be, as I was sourcing dentists/surgeons to book a consultation with. I clearly remembered the receptionist saying $80. When they called to confirm my appointment, I again confirmed how much my visit would cost and they said "oh it's covered by your insurance." [[HIGHLIGHT]]I go my visit, it was okay. The receptionists were nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The doctor gave me his opinion, which didn't match my treatment plan. After getting home and doing more research, it's not the option I want to try first. But he's entitled to his professional opinion, which is fine. But it would have been nice to at least give me the pricing and plan for the treatment I was requesting, which he said he could do, it would just take longer. Anyways, I left and nobody mentioned I owed anything. So, imagine my surprise when I call to ask about my x-rays (which they took without mentioning any cost) and they told me I owed $250. That's incredibly sneaky. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I followed up with them and some rude young boy answered the fun and told me I needed to "stop telling him they lied to me" and "change how I'm speaking."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I never used the term "lie," but after he mentioned it, yes, Ora did lie to me about how much my appointment would be. Also, he mentioned I paid for the "doctor's time." Well, yes, that was the consultation fee which was covered by my insurance, and thus I already paid for. I'm talking about the $250 I was additionally charged for x-rays. Had they ASKED me before just doing it, I would have accepted or denied the charge. Also, what about my time? I took PTO out of my work schedule to go here, got charged more than I agreed to when asked, didn't get a treatment plan. It was very much not worth my time/money. Had I heard "$250" when I called or even when I was there, I could have made an informed decision and may have gone to another consultation elsewhere. But they snuck the cost in without notice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was told the office manager would call me, but I doubt the guy I spoke with was going to pass on my info. The manager never called, so I followed up. Apparently, she was out on "vacation" the week prior. It's been over a week since I followed up--still never called.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would say just confirm your appointment rate before going in, but I did twice and they still overcharged me. The length of my review is a statement to the stellar experience that I had at Ora Oral Surgery. If you need to have your wisdom teeth removed (especially if you are highly anxious about the process like me), look no further - this is the place to go. Background: I needed two fully impacted wisdom teeth removed and was nothing short of absolutely TERRIFIED. My dentist referred me to a different oral surgeon and I was NOT comfortable during the consultation. (The doctor was making jokes when I expressed my fears and even told me that he removed his online reviews, which was a huge red flag to me.) That office only performed surgeries one day a month, so I had to wait 4 weeks for the procedure. Fast forward a week, I wanted a second opinion, and I found Dr. Koos through his countless 5-star reviews. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I spoke with the receptionist, Jenessa, over the phone, I explained how fearful I was and had asked if I could also book an appointment for the surgery so I could get this over with ASAP. The waiting was killing me. Jenessa was incredibly kind and I received a call back from her where she said if I was interested, I could come in on the day of my consult and they could do the surgery that same day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Although that might sound crazy to some people, this was the greatest gift to me. I felt like Jenessa really understood how I was feeling and found a solution to meet my needs. The day of the surgery, walking into the office felt more like walking into an appointment for a facial than for surgery. Jenessa was there to greet me and it was so peaceful, my mom and I sat by the fireplace as I filled out my paperwork. One thing I loved - Ora has a back exit for patients after surgery so I didn't have to see anyone walk through the waiting room post-surgery. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Meeting Dr. Koos immediately put my mind at ease. He introduced himself by his first name when he walked in the room and was incredibly kind and patient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]He listened to my laundry list of questions (no joking about my fears like the other surgeon) and really worked to understand what I was afraid of.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ex: I do not like having any type of gas over my nose, so Dr. Koos had his team add that after I was asleep and took it off before I woke up - problem solved! So onto the surgery. I waited maybe 10 minutes between the consult and going back for the procedure. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nancy took me back and oh my gosh I am convinced she was an angel sent from above. Talk about kind, patient, and completely confident in handling my fears.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She turned on Taylor Swift (my requested artist) as she got me ready for surgery (heart monitor, blood pressure, etc.).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Another thing I loved - typically when you're in a dentist chair, your doctor enters the room from behind you. Here, Dr. Koos and his team all entered using the door in front of me, so I could see who was coming into the room. That is a GAME CHANGER for someone with dental anxiety. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Right before putting me to sleep, Dr. Koos sat next to me and said, "thank you for trusting us with your care, that is the greatest compliment of them all."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They were so quick, I was asleep before I could think of anything else to say! I woke up sitting upright, with the IV already out, and no gas over my nose. Just had some gauze in my mouth. Nancy walked me to the recovery room and brought my mom in where they went over post-op care. I felt great. Zero pain, no nausea. I couldn't believe how easy the process was. I thought, "that's it?" and even joked that I felt so good, I could have gone back to work that afternoon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr. Koos called later that night to check in and see how I was doing. It was so nice to be able to ask all of the questions that you maybe didn't think of while in the office and it felt like top-notch care to have a doctor make sure you're doing well after surgery.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also important to note, as a comparison to the first consultation with the other surgeon, the post-op care with Ora was WAY better. The plan of how to proactively treat pain and swelling with Ora was worlds above the other surgeon. I was so focused on the procedure, I didn't even think to ask about the difference in post-op care, but I'm sure glad I was with Ora. So, if you're as fearful as me to get your wisdom teeth removed, go see Dr. Koos. When researching Ora, I found a review where someone wrote that if they could help just one person through the process by writing their experience, then it was a success. She helped me, so now I want to pass it on. If you're reading this and afraid, I promise it is WAY easier than any of the online videos and blogs make it out to be. Go to Ora! read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. You should find more professional and compassionate surgeons for your dental surgeries. I came to this location for wisdom teeth removal and it was my first time under anesthesia. I experienced the typical side effects from anesthesia when I was coming out of it like being confused, a little scared, and dizzy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]None of that matter to my surgeon, Dr. Hanson, who yelled at me and was overall very cruel to me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If this wasn't bad enough, after I left a Google review (something I rarely do) one of the other surgeons responded with a denial of reality, a reality he wasn't present for, and doubled-down on his co-worker's horrid behavior towards me as if I was the one who was in the wrong.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have yet to receive an apology and at this point I don't want one.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would greatly appreciate if people didn't support this business. read more

After my tooth was extracted and the initial stage completed, Dr. Koos even called me to make sure I was having no problems or questions. Dr David Hanson is the best oral surgeon I ever had pull a tooth. Let's face the facts that there is pain involved but at least he makes it as little as possible. Works fast, fairly priced knows exactly what needs to be done. His staff is very pleasant and makes you feel at ease. I had a really great experience. The staff, jasmine in particular, and Dr. Koos were nothing short of accommodating and comforting. I went in with a tooth infection in my back molar caused by the wisdom behind it. The whole staff was nice, quick, and efficient. They got me in for a consult within a days notice once I noticed the infection getting worse. We're quick to take x rays and figure out a game plan. The x rays were the kind that wrap around you, instead of poking and prodding your mouth for 10 minutes, which I was really happy about Dr. Koos was great in that he made up two routes of treatments that I could choose from, and scheduled me within days of the initial. The front desk staff was really accommodating in questions and suggested specific savings plans that really helped me figure out how to make this procedure possible, as I had put it off for years. The whole procedure was the removal of all four wisdom teeth alongside a back molar. It took under 25 minutes, maybe 20 which I was so shocked and impressed with. They were really quick, concise, and most of all, comforting. This was my first time going under general anesthesia so I was really nervous and scared going into it. But everyone made me feel at ease. Dr. Koos even went the extra mile to contact me the night after the surgery to ensure everything was going well, which I really appreciated. This whole facility really cares about their customers. I have already recommended Ora to a couple of friends and would continue to. Thanks for making this scary procedure quick, fearless, and easy! Never a priority. Get ready to feel like you don't matter in the nation's first green oral surgery office. The lackadaisical approach from the staff is either designed to make you feel like surgery is no big deal and relax you or it's the actual business philosophy. I did a consultation on June 4th, scheduled for surgery later that month. My surgery was moved twice. One because the surgeon decided he wanted to leave the country. Second for no reason at all other than the doctor won't be in the office. After anticipating surgery three times and having to sweat out the long waits, they bumped me the morning of my surgery. I didn't even know until I called the office that morning to check to see if I could have a sip of water. Which, brings me to my next point. Watch out for misinformation from all the staff who never quite seem to be on the same page. I called (only to find my surgery was bumped from 845a to 10:30am because of a diabetic patient) to see if I could drink water and I was told a sip or two (1-2 oz). When I told the staff that morning that I had some water, my surgery was delayed another 15-20 minutes while the staff checked to make sure that they were able to operate on me as I was "under no circumstance to have any water". I never got an answer about the water, they just started the procedure. So I guess that was the answer I was waiting for. Now, the actual surgery itself went off without a hitch. Things were just fine, and the staff couldn't have been better. It's after the surgery where they got your money and you're back to feeling like you don't matter at all to them. I had to wait THREE DAYS for them to get me back into the office for an uncontrollable pain that woke me up twice in the middle of the night. Because of the list of things to follow after surgery, it's really tough to not stay on top of things. It looks like an intern organized a bunch of notes from a break room and slapped them into Microsoft Word and THAT's your guiding light getting better. It's just a list of about 30 things, all out of order from day 4 to day 1, to an hour after surgery, back to day 4 . Just scattered about. They could easily organize the information to be more digestible for patients. Now the doctor, who will tell you to call or text any time after surgery is lying to you. In fact, Dr. Koos won't even read the context of your messages. After day 3 of extraordinary pain, I asked him "Is it normal to experience pain after every single meal, even oatmeal?" To which he replied "yes, hot or cold food can cause pain". I would definitely not be taken in by the glow of this studio being "green". All that means is they us Amazon Alexa to integrate all their equipment. Nothing else is different from a different studio. Do yourself a favor and find a different doctor to operate on you. You'll save yourself from days of pain afterwards. read more

"Where's the sushi?" That was my first thought when I walked into this very zen oral surgery office. I was so impressed with the pristine, artistic interior that I almost forgot that my daughter was there to have four impacted wisdom teeth removed. From start to finish this was a very positive experience for my daughter. Everything was clearly explained and all questions answered to our satisfaction. We were bracing for the worst but when she said upon completion of the procedure "she didn't feel a thing." I was quite relieved. Dr. Koos and his staff were fantastic. I had to have oral surgery to remove tooth fragments from my lip. Having tooth fragments in my lip hurt a LOT, but taking them out was easy at ORA, and I felt way better afterwards. Dr. Koos clearly explained how the procedure would go including anesthesia and all that. He even entertained my request to get a picture of what they took out of my lip. After the procedure, he called to check in on me a few hours later, and he remembered to text me the picture. I appreciated that. Anthony was assisting Dr. Koos with the surgery, and he was also very nice. He answered a bunch of random questions I had about the procedure, anesthesia, medication, all that stuff. Just be aware you will probably need to pay up front, and they will try to bill your insurance for you afterwards, but I don't think that's unusual for dental places like this. Also, I should mention the one negative thing about my experience - I did need to wait about 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time before they took me back for surgery. But I'll give them a pass on that, since everything else was such a good experience. read more

This place really is awesome. Dr Koos is so calming and friendly. The admin staff is also very nice as well! I had an extraction and bone graft. I was really nervous about the IV sedation but they give you nitrous first to help with calming you down a bit. Dr Koos pit the IV in my arm and I was "out" within 3 seconds. Super quick. Super easy. Recovery was great. Not too much pain once the numbing wore off. I took the 800mg ibuprofen a couple hours after the procedure then another 800mg in the evening as the numbing wore off. It wasnt really neccessary but figured might as well. Didnt even fill the 'script for the narco. Ill probably end up with an implant so I look forward to all my appointments here! read more

I had four of my wisdom teeth taken out on May 2 (today). The staff and Dr. Koos made me felt at ease during the consultation 2 weeks ago and my surgery today. I did not feel any pain during the surgery and I felt very minimal pain after my surgery. Dr. Koos called me a few hours after my surgery on his own time to check on me and make sure that I am doing okay. He went through the after-care instructions again. Highly recommended! read more

I hope this review can help anyone who is similar to myself , having to have their wisdom teeth removed , but struggling with the fear and stress of getting it done. First I'd like to start with Jasmine. From day one when I called to get some information, she wasn't only incredibly helpful, informative, and patient with me , but she was also kind. Even today (before the procedure) she saw that I was struggling with my nerves , and she took time to help calm my nerves and give me more information... as for Dr. Koos... his calm nature is comforting. At my consultation he was also patient with me while I asked a hundred questions , and took the time to answer every one of them. For someone with dental anxiety as extreme as mine , it really does help to have a doctor like Dr. Koss , who doesn't make you feel bad or silly for being afraid and uncomfortable... now on to the surgery itself. Throughout my life , I've had bouts of struggling with OCD. One of my OCD fears is going crazy and/or losing control ... imagine how that plays into something like general anesthesia. My mind came up with everything that could go wrong with it. I worried that I would still be awake and aware of everything happening , and that I wouldn't be able to tell the doctor that I could feel everything.... My procedure was done this morning , and I can't say enough how grateful I am that my fears were (per usual) complete nonsense . I woke up and did my yoga and breathing work this morning, and didn't allow myself to go down the road of panic. When I got to my appointment I went straight in and let the nurse do whatever she needed. I kept my questions to a minimum and worked on trusting the process and not feeding my fears. It went so incredibly smooth. The last thing I remember is the doctor coming in to put in my IV, and then next I'm in a recovery chair with my sweater back on. I have no memory of what happened in between. So my fears of being awake and aware under sedation , didn't happen. Also it all lasted no more than 45 minutes. I'm posting this review to not only sing the praises of this office , but also to hopefully help anyone who has fears as extreme as mine can be. I'm now home resting with ice packs on my checks. Yes it's painful, I'll manage, and this too shall pass...Also I don't know how much this helped. But two weeks prior to the procedure I looked up what foods and supplements that help with surgery recovery, and I made sure to take those supplements (after getting permission from my general doctor), and changing my diet to a way healthier way of eating... if you'll be getting your wisdom teeth removed , please know that it's not as bad as your mind or the blogs can make it out to be , and you'll be okay. Considering I had my wisdom tooth removed, it was a great experience. I went in for a consultation on a Thursday and then had the extraction the following Saturday. Dr. Koos was so nice and explained everything very thoroughly. His office staff were also super friendly and helpful in making sure I was comfortable. Procedure took about 30 minutes. The office itself is the nicest I've ever been to. Everything is state of the art, clean, relaxing and eco friendly. Everyone here seemed the genuinely care and it showed through their actions. I went to my 6 month follow up appointment and, unsurprisingly, the graft didn't take. Dr. Koos didn't meet with me, but he told his assistant that it *might* get better in another 5 months. It's frustrating that I could have just had the tooth removed for less than $200 and now I've spent 10 times that - not covered by insurance - to have not just the same result, but a worse result. After my experience of being physically immobilized, hyperventilating and in pain, during the surgery with an IV definitely not delivering "light sedation," I now have far more intense anxiety about dental procedures. A few years ago, I recommended Dr. Koos to anyone looking for an oral surgeon. I would not recommend him to anyone now. I see there is a response now to this review. I tried to reach out with my concerns in January but my calls were not returned and this office was the only one in the Ora network without a feedback option on the website. I was so relieved when I saw this office was in my new insurance network because I had such a positive previous experience. This surgery went very wrong. My teenage son had his 4 wisdom teeth removed last month and I was incredibly impressed with Dr. Koos and his staff. From the initial consultation to working with my insurance to actual procedure, the experience couldn't have been better. Dr. Koos spent a lot of time to talk to my son about the procedure in advance and really helped to alleviate his concerns. Great experience! I put off getting my wisdom teeth out for over 10 years and they were always causing trouble. I set an appointment for a consult, they took quick xrays (all external, no huge contraption in your already irritated mouth!) and then explained the benefit of getting them out. Dr Koos went through the procedure and recovery process and was very thorough. I actually left there excited to finally get my teeth out instead of dreading it. The day of, the procedure went very smooth and was super quick! Recovery was a breeze and I didn't even have to take pain meds. I had a partial bony impacted wisdom tooth I needed removed. The staff was great and Dr Koos did a great job. I barely needed ibuprofen after (although he prescribed something stronger just in case) and had practically no swelling. Had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Koos and his staff last Friday. The initial consultation was incredibly smooth and he explained the procedure in depth. Then on the day of the surgery, the entire staff was incredibly friendly which helps calm you down if you get nervous about this kind of stuff. As you're getting prepped for surgery, he asked me what I wanted to listen to in the operating room and he uses Alexa to turn it on which was a very cool touch. Then he followed up later in the day by calling to see how I was doing and I texted him twice with some questions I thought of a couple days later.
