I stopped by Armstrong's on my way home for the first time and I LOVED IT! They have such a wide selection of everything! I had a photo of the flowers I was looking for and Jesus knew exactly what I was looking for. He was very knowledgeable and friendly! I loved my experience I had here for my first time. So I had called about 5 different nurseries near me in Whittier looking for a specific plant and all of the reps said "no we don't have it" my sister told me this nursery carried it so I called today was helped by Jose A. I told him what plant it was and he kept me on the phone as he walked to the garden department it usually is in, he also asked the person who managed it if the plant was in stock. She said no but he let me know I could be placed on a list when they get in they would call me Not one other nursery offered that to me including other Armstrong centers. This place is beautiful with friendly and accommodating staff. I was greeted by Mr. Guzman (since I honestly don't know how to say his first name). Mr. Guzman was kind enough to give me some tips about my dying aloe Vera plant. Not only did he give me tips, he replanted the plant in new soil and new pot so the aloe can breathe. We had the most amazing experience here. We're first time homeowners (and garden owners lol) and have zero knowledge about keeping plants alive. We decided to pull out all of the plants we've killed so far and start from scratch. We went into Armstrong pretty clueless and approached the customer service desk. We jokingly asked Jose to point us in the direction of plants that were hard to kill. We were so pleasantly surprised that instead of just saying, you may want to stick with plants in that area over there, he took about 45 minutes with us! Walking us through the entire process of keeping our garden alive and healthy, answering questions about specific plants, watering patterns, soil. He asked questions about our house, the kind of sunlight we get, what our preferences were for the amount of care we need. It was everything that customer service is usually lacking these days. He was a true professional and really knew his stuff. This isn't a Hone Depot, where they hire a Joe Shmoe who just needs a quick job. They really care about their customers here. We really felt like we could call back and ask questions also. Our garden is looking absolutely GORGEOUS now thanks to Jose and all the time he spent with us. We'll be customers for life. OK selection, but OVERPRICED! I checked out this place since it's close to where I live. I was looking at their indoor plants and for a mid-size snake plant it's priced about $80. Something comparable would be only $30 somewhere else. If you are looking for something specific, I'd suggest checking the regular price first before buying here. read more

Wasn't easy to decide whether to give a 4 or 5 star rating to the local branch of Armstrong Garden Centers, Inc. - the (huge) chain of nurseries all around Los Angeles & Orange County area. Truth of the matter is, it is a pleasure to walk around and contemplate the beautifully arranged vast variety of plants & flowers. In addition to all this voluptuous flora, they have a decent collection of realistic-looking higher-end garden decorations (stone fountains, benches, finials, statues, gargoyles, vases etc.) crafted by Al's Garden Art, Inc. The latter are better than those you can find at other nurseries such as Target's, Lowe's or Home Depot's garden centers, as they aren't made of the usual el cheapo fiberglass structure, and thus they don't feel as light-weight and fake. Gosh, the weight is part of the tactility. You don't wanna buy a gold Rolex that weights same as a entry level Mickey Mouse watch, right? One more thing: Armstrong's carry also a great collection of wind chimes... I love their largest chimes- they sound deep, like the real bells... a sound I remember from my childhood, when I used to live in Europe- all churches had regular chime time, announcing the time of day... impressive really, when you hear them in chorus from all around the city... So, maybe I will get those for my garden? If I can save some money for all those things that I wanna get... may take some time (sigh). In other words, I recommend Armstrong, but I decreased my rating with 1 star because the prices seem to be on the expensive side. read more

I love this nursery!!!!! My condo allows me to have nice plants and greenies infront and down my steps so, I take full advantage of my Carson Creesley genes! They are celebrating their 120th year of being in business; today I got 2 larger pots for my Tree Gardinias by the entrance to my villa,an Orange flower thing plant (LOL) a White Lilac & Lavender Lilac with 2 pots; all for under $60; what you say... Lilacs in SO CAL? Yes!; these have been grown to adapt and bloom in warm climates. I got buttloads of REALLY nice indoor house plants a few weeks ago too. This place is very nice to wander through and you get points for cash off your purcahses with your Armstrong Card. I miss having a yard like I had before but, this place still accomadates even the most down sized of Green Thumbers! (Price ranges are variable) read more

Stopped in here last month when I was on a 'I want to have my first container garden shopping spree!' I came in with the impression to have a few herbs/vegetable plants and maybe a flower or two for my garden. I started out (and still am) very new to all of this and a novice about different soils, plants, compatibilities, pot sizes, etc. So pretty much I was diving into this not-well-thought-out plan with money to spend. I was that girl who looked like I didn't belong there because obviously I was unsure of what I was doing. I was able to figure out what herbs I wanted on my own. But then I tried a few different times to make the awkward eye contact and communication of "yeah I need help please" with a few of the sales associates. Yeah, didn't work. I had to wait in the check-out line to finally get my turn to ask some questions. They were obvious garden-basics but the lady who helped me had the attitude/tone of voice like she didn't love what she was doing. I had to ask questions and she would just give short simple answers (personally I love what I do, and I explain everything that is going on or fill all educational opportunities above and beyond). Maybe she was having a bad day, to give her the benefit of the doubt. Anyways, to make a long story short, I avoided asking any more questions because I felt like I was a damper to her painfully hard job. I left with herbs, a tomato plant, few pots and saucers, and soil. My plants are growing great. I just wish that lady had some enthusiasm. The parking lot is big and the shopping carts are even bigger. The one positive thing, they give you a big sheet of plastic to line your trunk so it doesn't get dirty. But what does this novice know, that could be a standard among all nurseries :) read more

This place has a decent selection of plants, but i was turned off by the pricing. It's almost twice as expensive as the other nurseries I've been to and their plants are poorly maintained! I came here for some bougainvilleas and they charge $45 for them for a bunch of knocked over wilted climbers, that is $20 more than H&H Nursery where the plants were watered daily with extra care. Just go to the plants in the back of their yard, they are all in poor condition. Do yourself a favor and go to H&H where the staff is not as helpful but the pricing and quality is awesome. read more

If you are looking for great service this is the best place to come. If you are looking for the "cheapest price," move along. I prefer great service over the cheapest price. I have always received great service at this Armstrong, and will continue to frequent this business. Often, and especially in this case, the outstanding service more than compensates for a slightly higher price. If the cheapest price is your qualifying measure for a "good" rating... please go to Wal-Mart Garden Center... you will get lowest prices (and lowest level of service) read more

I'm particularly impressed with the native plants offered (not clearly designated, but frequently stocked among the "hot and dry" section). I've been able to find all the basics for my chaparral/sage-scrub garden. Nice selection of pottery, too. I'd give five stars, but the prices are ok, not great. I LOOOVE this nursery! Once you come here, you'll never waste your time or money @ places like Lowe's or Home Depot again. You could spend hours there just strolling through the gorgeous foliage, and I personally think their prices are very practical. If the plant you buy from them does poorly, you take it back with the receipt. That says a lot to me about how they stand behind their products. The person who said all their carts are old, rusty, & hard to maneuver either went there 20 years ago or is just cranky and needs a driving lesson. This place is great. read more

Hard to earn five stars from me. The staff at Armstrong took SO much time in assisting us and explaining how we could get where we wanted to go. We ended up with a gorgeous window box of Marigolds and Alyssum. Since it was our first time planting, Jose walked us through the process himself and we left with the box planted and ready to hang. Excellent selection of flowering plants, trees, shrubs and all the pots and vessels you could really want. read more

So I'm giving three stars because I'm split on this place... People are helpful and there are a lot of beautiful plants, but it can be insanely expensive. I've been to a LOT of nurseries in this area and I will almost never buy from Armstrong even though I come here to shop around for ideas. Please, please do yourself a favor and comparison shop especially if you're interested in the larger succulents, agaves and yuccas. DO NOT pay those horrendous prices. This is not the place to go if you're doing a large scale project or buying a large quantity of plants. It's fine for gifts and the occasional one-off purchase and for getting "inspiration" if you need to stuff in person like I do. Also, I recently committed to never again buy a plant out of their indoor plants green house. I have succumbed in the past, too many times, to their beautiful and mature house plants only to have a terrible infestation on my hands. I only recently started to buy houseplants for my home and office so I didn't know what to look for, but Armstrong plants have given me an unfortunate and expensive lesson on whitefly and scale. If you don't know what those are, you're lucky. Once I switched to buying houseplants from Lowe's and Home Depot, I stopped having the problems with scale and whitefly, thank goodness. I should say though that not every indoor plant I bought there was infested (the snake plant has done wonderfully), but it's too frequent and too costly to risk it anymore. read more

They have a knowledgeable and friendly staff who seem eager to help with finding and learning about different plant needs. During covid they have maintained social distancing and other protocols (including wearing masks) that leave me feeling safe to go there. I've been coming here for years and love it. If you're going to pay premium prices you might well go to a top notch nursery. The free classes they offer are a waste of time. What a great garden center. It's a whole different universe compared to a garden center at Home Depot or Lowe's. The selection is great, the customer service is great, the atmosphere is also great. The plants are all in good shape and healthy. The staff members are very knowledgable and super helpful. They have a great selection of indoor, outdoor, and even water garden plants. They have lots of containers and garden decor accessories. They have a small private parking lot, but I've never had a problem finding a space. They're always willing to help you load your car and give tips on planting and care. Only down side is they're pricey, especially if you're used to getting your garden stuff at one of the big box retailers. If you're looking for something specific, this place is SO worth it. read more

They advertise curbside pick up and claim they will bring it out to your car. But then you arrive and find out that isn't true after wasting 30 minutes waiting for them to answer the phone number all of the signs tell you to call. You actually have to get out of your car and get in line to pick-up your order. Basically, they are liars who are falsely advertising curbside pick-up. read more

The plants here are healthier and a larger variety than big box places like Lowe's and HD, but it costs more because of this. If I buy something expensive like a shrub or tree, I come here. The times I've been here service is either great or terrible. It seems to be clique-based customer service. When the regulars are shopping, clerks will chat forever and totally ignore shoppers trying to ask a question. If their special friends aren't there, the staff will actually speak to you and help you find things. read more

I recently bought several small tress, shrubs and flowers to outift the empty concrete patio at my new house. I don't know the first thing about plants and was initially overwhelmed by the variety of the selection at Armstrong, but was saved by Jose! He quickly narrowed my search into a manageable number of plants that can take a lot of sun. I am very happy with my choices and also with the post-sale service; the folks at Armstrong potted my plants and delivered them the next day. Prices are high, but the service and convenience makes it worth the extra money for novice gardeners. read more

I think the only reason this place get 4 stars from me is because its close and I don't want to give Home Depot or Lowe's my money. Anyway, they tend to have a pretty good selection if you know what you're looking for and they will special order for you if you want. My only issue for me is every 3rd or 4th time I go there, they overcharge me. Shame on me for not being more on top of it, but everything looks right and then I check the receipt when I get home. Its usually only one plant, but its annoying. Now I'm going to be the jerk that only hands them them plant as they scan them so this doesn't happen again. Lots of pottery selection with both styles and colors and great with plant selections. Dave Wilson hybrid trees are awesome here as well! The store is moving towards an eclectic feel with more unique items than before. I was surprised to see jewelry here and cooking packets, which they could do without. I don't want to see it become too 99 cent store ish. Customer service is hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get correct advice, sometimes not. Custom orders might take a while...Like months...So be prepared. Tip: don't use the bathroom...This is the worst one I've seen yet. Hold it and go to a fast food joint around the corner. Yuck. Very pricey as well, so save up for your trip here. I wouldn't recommend the patio furniture. Extremely expensive and usually lightweight or doesn't sit square on the ground, so test it before you buy it. You don't want to spend $2000 and have to use match books underneath the legs! Stick with soil, pottery and plants and you're ahead of the game! read more
