I purchased three kangaroo paws at this location. I was unsure about how they would fare because of the amount of sunlight in my garden, but the sales associate assured me it would be ok because if they didn't do well there was a lifetime guarantee. When I checked out with a different employee I confirmed that those plants would be able to be returned, and they assured me of it. Sure enough, they didn't do well, and when I went to return them the Manager explained to me that I was unable to return them, despite being told the opposite by two employees. When I told him that two of his employees told me that I would be able to return the plants he was apathetic and dismissive. Be very careful about which plants you buy here, as not all plants have the lifetime guarantee and the employees don't seem to know which plants qualify and which don't. Would not recommend shopping here after that experience. read more

This location is one of the best out of the nearby Armstrong Garden Centers. From friendly and helpful staff to the selection of plants, this is your rare gem in a nice neighborhood. They have plenty of outdoor and indoor houseplants. Unlike other locations, this location is stocked with uncommon plants. This location also has gardening supplies. If you sign up online, you can request for products and do curbside pick up! Happy planting. read more

Wanted to buy the Eucalyptus 3 person backless bench Armstrong online is listed at 160.99 from 229.99 and she quoted me 229.99 and I told her the stores website says 160.99 she said they don't match the price really!!!! I said hmm unsual. I told her I will try Armstrong LA Canada and made a call sure enough asked the price over the phone and the price is 160.99!!!!!!!! I will be picking it up tomorrow. Whoever is in charge I will gladly come in and have her explain to you and I about why the online and in store aswell as LA Canada store doesn't match maybe because she is horrible at the nice job she has! read more

Absolutely the worst nursery I have ever interacted with in my life. I ordered three bamboo plants and they stated that it would be three weeks to get them. Six weeks later I call back and they tell me they will contact their suppliers. Five days later they call me back raising the price from the original $25 per plant to $90 per plant, raise their voice on the phone telling me I was rude, and proceeded to hang up. And that was the supposed manager. So much for the customer is always right. In any case they are overpriced in addition to being rude and ignorant. read more

We are new homeowners in Pasadena and were recommended to Armstrong by someone on Nextdoor. We've done several outdoor projects with Armstrong and the combination of experiences have turned out a four-star review. We met with Joanne over this past weekend and she was amazingly helpful. She alone could earn Armstrong a five-star review. Her knowledge and enthusiasm kept us asking questions and she was kind to walk us around the entire nursery trying to find a plant combo that would work for our patio. We came back the following day after meeting with her and picked up a beautiful weeping fig ficus and an enchanting duranta, among many other grabs. We planted them this weekend and they add that touch to our patio that we had been hoping for. Through past orders, we had some trees and plants that didn't do well. Their policy on returns is extremely helpful and we were able to get credit for the plants that didn't quite make it but when we brought in the plants to talk to an expert it was always the same conclusion: under or over watering but couldn't say which. This is a frustrating diagnosis for many gardeners and doesn't really help us for achieving success. With a hope and a prayer and a little bit of gambling, we've adjusted our watering practices. read more

I went to Armstrong today after receiving a gift card. It's not my first time at this location, but I have not been here in a bit . I'll start with the welcoming factor : nonexistent. I crossed path with 3 employees . Not one greatest mr or asked if I needed help . When I went to the gentleman behind the counter , he and 3 other employees were chatting . I asked for help and was told to look for it , should be there . I made a purchase but truth be told I just wanted to use up the gift card. I'm a big plant / garden person and have visited many garden shops . I think I'll stick with small mom / pop shops who are eager to give you plant advice / help . I can't help but wonder what criteria is used to approach / help a customer ? I went there about 2 weeks ago. There was a woman who works there who noticed me but never asked if I needed help. I watched her go up to an older man answering she asked him if he needed help. After he said no, I literally standed next to her just to see if she would ask me but she saw me and walked away. I followed her and she kept ignoring me. I don't want to say because of my race but it felt that way. She only approaches white older people. The cashier was nice but I don't think I'll spend my money there again. read more

Cute little place to get plants! I love coming here on a weekend to just browse around all the different types of plants. I got my first plant babies here! They have good start off indoor plants. Some plants may be a little pricy than other places. The center has a private parking lot where you can park your car and transfer your plants to your backseat for an easier transfer. The pots here are little pricy and not many options with colors which is not good. I say buy your plants here and get a nice looking pot elsewhere! I came by with the hubs on a random midweek afternoon to check out this location. I always driven by it but never stopped in. From the outside, it actually looks like a cute home. I feel like this location is smaller compared to the Monrovia location, but the set up and display is very nice. Don't let the size fool you, this place is jam packed with a whole lot of plants. I love their green house, its so amazing in there. So many plants so much to look at, with all the plants they have, it became a distraction to me, I didn't know which one to buy. After about 40 mins, I finally decided on a Neanthe Bella Palm, a baby one, it was under $5, such a good price! I would def come back again, I saw a few air plants that I liked, I will def come back. Parking - private lot, street parking Customer Service - amazing, very friendly and nice, the lady who helped me help me figure out the name of my plant Price - reasonable, I always felt that Armstrong may seem a bit pricier compared to Home Depot and Lowes, but the quality of the plants is def there. read more

Overall I usually have a good experience here, but I really came to write a review for Debbie. What a gem she is to have on your staff! She is extremely knowledgeable. I brought in some leaves (in sealed plastic bags as a precaution) and she was able to diagnose my issues right away. Based on her recommendations, my trees and plants are on their road to recovery and I am so grateful. Even more important, she had such a kindness about her. It just made the experience so much better. With Covid, politics & everything happening in the world- people have not been their best selves. I love walking through Armstrong to find new additions to my home. There are some very nice selections and they do change the options out every so often. One word of advice if you are looking for indoor houseplants is to double check the soil and the leaves to ensure there aren't any pests prior to purchasing. I've never been very impressed with the customer service here but yesterday was a new low. There were almost NO customers and plenty of staff, but no one could be bothered to help me. I had to interrupt a conversation between employees to ask where they large pots are. I found a big one and was struggling to get it to the check-out area. I passed several small groups of employees talking to each other and not one offered to give me a hand. I had to buy potting soil too and the cashier didn't think to ask me if I needed help with that either. Not a fun experience on a really hot day. read more

I just moved to Pasadena on Marengo and this nursery is right around the corner. I decided to buy a house warming plant and am so happy i found this place. It smells beautiful, which may sound weird, however you can tell a lot from a nursery based on the smell. They have a wide range of plants, flowers, cacti, trees and shrubs inside and outside. The have the cuttest variety of planters and garden flair. The women working the check out area were super nice and it took me and my husband a 10 seconds to cash out. The prices are comparable to most garden centers, maybe a little bit on the pricey side, but I can tell its worth it based on the quality, cleanliness and wonderful staff. All in all I am excited to return for some healthy and beautiful greenery in the future. read more

The employees working in the "yard " are helpful , seem positive and upbeat. I commend them . This week , midday , a very tall, slim , blond female cashier was not engaging at all. Geez I'd purchased a couple small items for over $100. You'd think a greeting , a smile , a thanks , would be warranted. Maybe I didn't spend enough! She was sour, with no greeting , slapped the receipt down on the table with no eye contact.. with no ," thanks . " Not sure why Armstrong can't use cashiers that have a pulse & have the right personality to work with the public! It seems this cashier could be miserable with her job , or is simply not suited to work in close proximity to valuable customers. read more

I came today for the first time after seeing online that someone had luck finding a specific rose at another location that I'd been looking for for months, the Disneyland Rose. Luckily this location had it in stock too. I spent over an hour here just browsing and was very impressed by how well its laid out and how many shade plants they had available. I have limited sun spots for plants but that's pretty much all I can find in big box garden stores. There's also a great section of indoor plants, giftable plants and pots. This for sure will be my new go-to garden nursery. read more

I am not good at taking care of plants. I've managed to kill bamboo and succulents before, so when my brother and his girlfriend brought me to Armstrong to get a plant over the holidays, I loudly protested that they were wasting $50 on a money tree that would soon end up another casualty of my black thumb (the opposite of a green thumb; I don't actually have a discolored thumb). In the end, though, they prevailed. They made me name the plant, because apparently talking to it makes it happy, and emailed me a week later to see how it was doing. "Plant" (which I dutifully started calling it) was getting some brown spots on its leaves. I phoned Armstrong and they instructed me to bring in a couple of the affected leaves. After some back and forth, they told me that I was probably overwatering it. They gave me detailed instructions on what to do, which are mostly superfluous to this review (although apparently not as superfluous as what I named my plant), and I went home, relieved that I didn't somehow have a diseased plant. Cause if something is gonna kill this thing, you better believe it's gonna be me. Plant is doing better now and growing like crazy. I almost wanna put marks on the wall to document how tall it's getting. Looks like getting help from an expert was better than self-diagnosing on google. If Plant survives another year, I'll upgrade this review to five stars. Cause any nursery that can help pull off an actual miracle deserves five stars. read more

I love this store and all the people that work there. Chris the manager is so nice and helpful. Aaron was a huge help to me in figuring out all the right plants for all the right places. I have done their design program where the designer comes out and it was awesome. I have learned so much about plants and dirt too! They did an amazing analysis on our dirt to help us with amending for our garden bed! We have an awesome garden bed! i came for the tomato class it was so great and I won the drawing which was so fun! Be smart and dont come in when its super busy. Do off times like weekday mornings to get extra attention if you need it to really plan a space. Focus on one thing at a time. I came in with pictures and sizes of my new pots for the front door and they whipped together the perfect plants for them! Love them and get so many compliments! 9 days ago, I placed an online order to the Pasadena Armstrong Garden Center. After 5 days, a individual called me to reconfirm that I wanted the order delivered. I confirmed that I did and the individual then said that she would go out and assemble everything and call back with my total cost. It's been 9 days now and no return call. I have called Armstrong 8 times since, but no one ever answers the phone. I have been on hold for hours. Please just answer your calls, it's just good business! read more

My daughter had a school project about hibiscus flower, couldn't find at any grocery store so I search on Yelp, found armstrong, they actually have many branches and I went to the Huntington one! I have no idea what hibiscus look like so I asked the staff there, she was very nice showing me where the flower was and I picked what I wanted and headed to check out! The place are pretty big both in door and outdoor with all kinds of flowers and plants, will definitely come back if I need anything else! read more

I kinda hate to write this review so I'm giving it an extra star from the 2-stars that I'm feeling at the moment. Armstrong's prices are high, but the workers are helpful and friendly (for the most part), and the plant selection and rows are great for finding options. Did I mention the prices are high? And that Orchard Home Supplies (OSH) closed stores? 2 stars: If you're going to buy a Christmas tree, do NOT buy it from Armstrong. Not only are the prices HIGH, but ... You know how trees dry out if they don't get water? Or if you forget to water the bowl the tree sits inside your warm, heated, living room? Have you heard that trees need a "fresh cut" on the lot before you take them home? That's because after the live trees were cut down at the tree farm, and driven for miles on a truck to the store, the trees then sit on the hard ground / pavement / sawdust for days, getting no water, and the sap seals up the bottom of the tree, like a blood clot, y'know. Trees without a "fresh cut" cannot absorb water through their trunk. Armstrong Gardens doesn't give you a fresh cut on your trees. Not even for a $100+ tree (I know, I know, but Orchard closed and...) This is my second year making the mistake of buying a Christmas tree from Armstrong Gardens. Don't do it. Don't buy a Christmas tree from Armstrong Gardens. If you do (because, Orchard) then at least insist that they give you a fresh cut. Or, cut it yourself when you get home, before you put the tree up, before you decorate it, yes, even if you have to remove the already-attached tree stand (which I didn't do), so that the poor tree doesn't dry out days before Christmas. Also so that you don't have to worry about the tree water smelling gross because the tree isn't drinking, and so you don't have to worry about holding a hot cup of tea near the combustible needles. read more

We come to this location every year for our Xmas tree as they have the best prices and great quality. The staff is really helpful even though they are clearly very busy tending to the demanding clientele of this part of the city. I do not envy them, that's for sure. There is a woman (named Gerry I believe) who always seems to be doing 10 things at once and is so kind. My son always has a great time chatting up the folks that work in the lot tying the trees down. This year they were thrilled when the person helping us threw some based Naruto knowledge at them. Blew my son's mind. I really appreciate that they are worker-owned and it is the main reason we come here. I'm seeing a lot of recent one star reviews and they all have a lot in common. Years of great service followed by one "bad" experience that prompts them to leave a review. Where were their reviews all the years of great service? Talk about toxic privilege. Anyways, if you're a nice, patient person who is not self-important, you will love it there. read more

I have shopped at numerous Armstrong Garden Centers, but this is my favourite. It's my Sunday sanctuary. My husband and I enjoy strolling through the large garden areas, soaking up the sun and the sights of gorgeous plants and home goods all around us. I will say that I have, sadly, been spoken to rather curtly by two young sales women in the past. Normally, I would dock a review one star for that; however I was lucky enough to meet Pam today, and I was so impressed with her knowledge and kindness. What a wonderful woman. I'm giving it 2 stars because the customer service experience was brutal. I came in to get ladybugs and earthworms as another nursery recommended them when they didn't have them. They had both of those items, super helpful and much appreciated. But, I asked a question about wildflowers and how I could avoid birds eating them and if there was a seed that they might not like as much, for my front garden. This didn't seem like a terrible question or labor intensive. The person at the counter just looked at me like I ruined their whole day and sort of snapped at me saying, "use top soil so they don't eat the seeds, and I don't know, the California Wild poppy, or a few others, how would I know what to recommend for you? I don't know what colors you like, or what you're looking for, I mean..." and I just looked at him and said, "you know, on second thought, I'll come back another time." - this was 30 minutes before close, I'm asking about seeds, I'm not asking you to come and plant my garden for me. Great selection of plants, pots, loved it all. So much bigger than Monrovia. It's kinda tucked away in the middle of a residential street. So you might pass the parking. Look for white picket fence then green metal fence. Staff was semi courteous. Cashier rushed us with our purchase. I think she wanted us to leave. We were just overwhelmed as it was our first time there and loved the gardens!! So pretty and peaceful. They have lots of pumpkins and diff colors and sizes. Great for decorating for fall with real stuff and also had some fake flowers and wreaths that were cute. I'd come again earlier. They closed early due to the bobcat fires. read more

I've unknowingly passed by this nursery many times, but only just recently dropped in for the first time on a weekday afternoon. There weren't too many people shopping, and plenty of space to keep distance. Overall, it looks like they have a wide selection of outdoor plants, but I came here to look at their indoor plants. The selection is a little smaller, but you might find plants that you can't find somewhere else for a reasonable price (I bought a 6" Philodendron Birkin for $25). I also liked that they have a lot of ceramic and terra cotta pots in different sizes and colors/washes, which I wasn't able to find at other stores. Some are more expensive than others, depending on the pot. The cacti and succulent area is mostly out in full sun, and not as big selection compared to other nurseries. I also think some of them don't like sitting under direct sun...and I didn't find the specific succulent I was looking for, but it still might be worth browsing, depending what you want. I can't speak for their other services, or how my questions may have been answered---if I had a question that needed answering, but I didn't have any. But at least for browsing, I may come back again. read more

I feel Pasadena Armstrong has ripped me off so many times that I avoid going there. I placed a special order, got a call to come get it and it was sold right out from under me. The little boy who manages the place, did not have the courtesy to even deal with the issue. Instead I heard (over his desk phone) there's nothing he can do, they are out for the season. When I complained to management, they referred me to Tonya in Monrovia and POOF they had a huge inventory and I got them at a discount! Debbie is sickening sweet. She has done design work for me. Though her designs are great, she overstocks you with more plants and amenities than you can use. Their philosophy is to return them - avoid the hassle and dont over sell me! The straw that broke the camel's back was a five gallon plant that was quite pricey. She said she has nothing smaller - the Monrovia store did! I love the points, the discounts and their return policy - but special orders are disastrous. Their 20% off sales are a waste of time as this is their chance to unload substandard plants. When I ask for a certain plant, they never have it and cant find it. Many a trip to Home Depot resolved those incidents. Tune in for my experience with their Landscape Design Service. read more

Was there on Wednesday to get a house plant during the 30percent sale. I asked the cashier how long would the sale last and was advised by their staff that its going to last till Xmas. Went back today to try and get another plant. A girl at the cashier told me sale ended on Monday. I told her I was there Wednesday and the sale was on. She insisted that the sale ended on Monday. She kept talking over me and said "are you going to hear me out???"Terrible customer service. Worse than Home Depot. The system is beautifully organized making it very easy for someone to walk in and see which plants need low, medium, high levels of light and most importantly for me, who has a pet, a little paw print stamp indicating pet friendly plants.
