Armstrong Garden is a beautiful place, nursery that has all types of plants, flowers, for indoor & outdoors from shrubs, house plants, pottery, trees, garden solutions and more. A whole lot more. They also sell food, seeds, roots, soil, small, medium, large pots, different styles and colors of everything. Very durable and a tad expensive for my budget. Pots for your plants are so gorgeous. They do landscaping for people who own gardens (does not apply to me) and all the work the employees put in to those plants to make their customers happy and satisfied is a huge recognition. Employees are very knowledgeable, nice, and helpful. Also caring and understanding. A friend of mine had given me an indoor plant for my birthday last year and lasted me for a whole entire year and 3 months. It took the last breath and I went to them asking for help. It was a bit late. I am more of a flower girl than owning plants. I have had plants in my younger years. I ended up buying 2 new outdoor plants to put outside of my window/door. It looks very pretty. I have also purchased a Christmas tree from their lot twice. Established in 1889. That should say a lot about this lovely, beautiful garden/nursery. This place is so cute and is well stocked. Walking around this place was really nice but also got very hot since there isn't much shade except for by the flowers. There are so many varieties of flowers and trees to choose from! The check out was also super fast and the workers brought the soil bags out to the car for us. I can't wait to go back! read more

Located on Magnolia across the street from Ralph's just off of Coldwater, Armstrong continues to be one of the nicest nurseries and garden centers in the valley. Their selection is bountiful and their service is very knowledgeable. I can always find something beautiful for my home or my garden when I come here. I also appreciate their excellent selection of beautiful pots. Prices are a tad high for my taste, but I shop here because everything is so lovely. Love this place. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to help. They have every sort of spray and pellet for whatever needs your garden may have, from Captain Jack's Bug spray to Neem Oil to slug repellent to organic fertilizer. Needed to get some ideas on what kind of plants would be good for this spring summer at the house. The selections are quite nice. Loads of flowers, perennials and annuals. The cactus and succulent section was quite massive. Loads of sizes and styles to choose from. Not only those selection, but the arrays of veggies are impressive. Indoor plants section also had a big collection of items. The also carries a huge selection of water features for the garden. Roses and roses were amazing. Both climbers, shrubs and tress. I bought ten indoor plants.. very high price by the way. nine of them did well, however one of them was frail from the start. after 3 weeks, 9 were thriving and the one frail had died. I took pictures and contacted the store. to my surprise i was told " I'm sorry but we dont warranty or replace indoor plants" What? I had spent over 500 dollars and you wont replace the one bad plant? Unbelievable, as almost all other nurseries have a return and replace policy. I will never go back again to any Armstrongs. So cute!!!!! They have a good selection of plants, veggies, and tools for gardening. One of the floor workers loaded 5 bags of soil in my car for me, so nice! Overall good customer service...although one of the cashiers let someone skip head of me in line :/ It's a little overpriced but hey...support small business! I spent about $80 on mint, a flower, two bags of seeds, and 5 bags of soil. They have a parking lot that got a little crowded but nothing too crazy. I will be back! read more

This is our home Armstrong and I stop in several times throughout the year for different indoor and outdoor plants, pots and soil. I've also purchased our Christmas tree from them a half dozen times. I love a fresh tree!!!! I'm not with that fake shit. Nothing artificial about this girl or her taste. There's so much fun in a fresh tree each year. There's joie in perusing the line up, seeing each ones special quirks. You get to switch it up, ya know what I mean? Not the same old tree year in and year out. New make, new model!!! Flocked, Douglas, Frazier... Dragging an old boxed tree out of your garage just doesn't hit the same way as selecting each years tree, getting it onto the roof of the car, driving carefully home, getting it inside (I mean I get excited to get my work gloves on). I've purchased a fresh tree 21 consecutive years now and love the way the smell of pine brings back memories of holidays past. My grandparents had a fresh one every year for probably over 60+ years. Most years I actually do double tree duty, by purchasing one for home and also my grandmas. Armstrong has great pricing on trees ($49 for table tops, $99-$149-$249for your average 6-7footer). Some years I've had our tree stand, others I've turned it in in January for the $10 credit towards other fresh indoor plants. They will not accept a tree stand from another Christmas tree lot, so I've needed to purchase from them in years past. You'll know yours is from here if it has the little red stoppers on the edge, or at least that's how they typically determine if it's from them. Service is always fantastic! Go early in the season for the best selection. There have been years I've waited until what I thought was still a wee bit early and they have been down to the very last few, and by few I mean literally the last three trees. I've always been completely happy with my choice, even the years they've been down to just a few. Happy tree trimming to all! read more

We live about a mile from the Sherman Oaks Armstrong, and we have been getting a large portion of our plants (Texas privets, lemon/apple/grapefruit trees, succulents) . Overall happy with their products/services. We bought 18 Texas privets 3 years ago to line the front of our house, and since then, they have grown nicely over the years. Everything we have bought has been of good quality. Service by the staff is good overall. Price points are a bit high at times. Overall recommend the place! read more

5 months ago, in early December 2024, I purchased 10 packages of Tulips, over 100 bulbs. I followed the instructions very carefully and then planted them around Christmas. Today is April 25, and not 1 bulb has come up. Over 100 bulbs planted, and nothing has come up. NOTHING!!! I called and spoke with a woman who informed me that they don't refund bulbs and other flowers...only on trees and bushes. I asked her to repeat that as I couldn't believe they would not refund me any money. She again said that they only give refunds on trees and bushes. I then told her that I would never visit their store again. I bought over $150 of high-priced dead bulbs... garbage, and they told me "Tough Luck." I will NEVER spend another dime there. EVER!!! Green, green, green, green! Armstrong Garden Center of Sherman Village Glen... Literally bordering on two other cities while shining bright off Magnolia Blvd and Coldwater Canyon just few feet west across from the Ralph's Shopping Center is a peaceful welcoming space for all interested in plant life. From succulents to fresh scents this epic emporium of plant life is here for you. I stopped in hoping to make some more small low light and/or small succulents a home on my window seals with the others at home as well as some decent pots and soil, but didn't find exactly what I had in mind. I got referred to check this place out by my friend Delia, who knows her stuff and this is actually my second time coming by, the first time was pretty great and pre-2020. They do have good customer service and a lot more than just an outdoor nursery of growables. There is actually a good amount of outdoor and indoor decor including faux plants and fixtures inside the the store as well as some small furniture... And depending on your living setup they also have some fruit trees, saplings, sheds and fountains for you. The deals are pretty fair and they do carry quite a bit. I was hoping to find some smaller lbs bags of soil for dessert plants as well as I have before, but didn't have quite the luck I was hoping for or rather limited options. The parking lot is wide and well spaced out if you do happen to purchase a fair amount of new plant friends or accessories here you'll have plenty of room to load and wide flatbed carts to load and/or shop with. I do recommend them over larger chains like Lowe's and Home Depot as quality over quantity usually always does better, like it does here. They have great safety and health procedures in place (mask, sanitizer, the works), very knowledgeable staff and a lot to choose from. read more

I recently visited Armstrong Garden Centers with a friend, and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. From the moment we walked in, we didn't feel welcomed or assisted by the staff. Firstly, there was no greeting when we entered the store. A simple "hello" or acknowledgment from the staff would have made us feel more comfortable and valued as customers. Moreover, despite being in a garden center, no one offered to help us find what we were looking for. It was disappointing that we had to navigate the store on our own without any guidance. A little assistance goes a long way, especially for customers who may not be familiar with gardening or the layout of the store. What struck us the most was the unwelcoming atmosphere created by the all-female staff. It felt as if we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers, which significantly impacted our overall experience. I believe customer service is a crucial aspect of any retail establishment, and our visit to Armstrong Garden Centers fell short in this regard. I hope the management takes steps to improve the welcoming atmosphere and customer engagement in the future. PROS: I'm only giving this place a 1-star because I thought it had such cute pots and they did display a variety of plants. read more

Bad Customer Service. There's some older ladies that work there that are rude and condescending. I went this week and selected a plant in a pot, but didn't want the pot. When I asked the staff member if the plant was in the unpotted room area. She looked at me and said, "There over there, they look the same as that one." When I asked if she would show me. She walked me over and said, "The potted plants are more expensive and if you don't want to pay, then...." Went she walked away, I put all my plants back and left. I'm not going to pay to be insulted by snobs. I won't shop here again. read more

I'd say about half of the plants I got here were infested. Peppermint and chocolate mint had thousands of little white bugs within a few days that weren't on any of my other plants (photo attached.) My friend got a few plants here too and they were infested with aphids. This Armstrong is much cheaper than the other one I go to, but I've never lost so many plants. read more

Tall strawberryish blonde girl with glasses is super rude. She begrudgingly helped me find a plant and then I went on my own to find some other things because she was rude from the jump and barked out orders about plant care as if I don't know how to care for one. At one point I needed to ask a question regarding a plant I was considering purchasing so I patiently waited while she helped someone which was a pretty long time and when I thought she was done I asked her if I could ask a very quick question before she left the green house. Well I guess they weren't done because she rudely told me that she wouldn't help me because she wasn't done helping the other woman. I let her know it would be quick and she still refused. She could have answered my question in the time it took her to tell me she wouldn't answer my question and no one should be forced to wait over 20 min to ask for help about a certain plant. Proper customer service would to make sure I was assisted by someone else or at least an attempt to hear the question to see if in fact it was a quick one. She did none of that, didn't tell a coworker I needed help, nothing. So I find someone else to help me and they said they couldn't answer that and we had to look for someone else. Turns out it's this rude girl who was the only one who would know the answer to my question and she was still helping the SAME individual. Instead of being kind and patient this woman snapped on me and then coddled another customer for an unnecessary amount of time. Horticulture is relaxing for me... this was not. I will not be back. To be treated so poorly for wanting to ask a simple question so I can possibly buy something is ridiculous and her attitude towards me was uncalled for. Maybe employ another person with plant knowledge or someone else who knows retail settings and customer service. read more

This is my happy place. Some people like golf, some like amusement parks, for me, I like nurseries. They're all nice but Armstrong tops the list. Everything you could ever want, indoor and outdoor plants available along with a large selection of soils, amendments and pretty much everything for your landscaping and gardening needs. Great location, plenty of parking, very knowledgeable and help staff and just the perfect atmosphere all year around. Grocery store and dry cleaner across the street. You won't get anymore relaxing than a stroll thru Armstrong. You won't be disappointed. read more

My girlfriend came really excited and left feeling unwelcome. She's a plant mom who loves frequenting new shops to her and when she went with her friend, nobody greeted them, and when they asked for help to find certain things, they were told to look over in different aisles instead of just walking them to what they were looking for. The lack of professionalism was unwarranted, and it's like nobody tried to have any common decency. My girlfriend left feeling like she was profiled and was so repulsed by this service, that we would genuinely like to know what happened and if this is how all of these stores operate. It's a shame because from what I heard, they had a good selection. The older women were snappy and rude. If I was there, I guarantee something would have been said. There's no place for bullies and your staff thinks they're above common human decency. read more

Finding the right plants takes some work! I had checked Lowe's, Home Depot, and a couple of other stores before a coworker reminded me of this chain. I had checked the Glendale location first, and although the selection was much nicer than I had seen, nothing pulled me enough to buy. I thought I'd give it one more shot and try this location. Happened to be THE day to go - not only was it 20% off entire store, but they also were giving away free rose bush babies + fertilizer. It was crazy packed, but luckily the parking lot guard was in a good mood and made it easy and convenient for me to enter and exit. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have known about the free rose thing! Ended up getting a nice planter pot and 3 more plants for such a good deal. Will definitely be returning and recommending. read more

BEWARE OF THEIR MEMBERSHIP POLICY I was hopeful when I arrived at Armstrong that I would have a better experience. I called ahead of time about their night blooming jasmine about a week ago. The sales person told me they had two left and they would hold them for me at the front - so I was exited to head over there and grab them. Once I arrived at the front register area, the sales person pulled them from behind the barrier for me -- and they were the most scrawny under watered plants, comparatively, in the whole nursery. I almost walked away, but I really wanted to see if it was possible for them to bounce back, as a good plant mom. I was told, if they didn't I could get a full refund on the plants with a Armstrong membership. The saleswoman said they would return to health after consistent watering and replanting -- never mind that under their care, the plants were BONE DRY. So, I bought them, hoping to give these orphan plants a home. After two days, the plants began to dry up and loose their leaves. I noticed some webbing and small insects on the underside of the leaves - I suspected spider mites. After a few days the issue only worsened, even with the use of an organic insecticide/neem oil. A week and a half passes and the plans are almost dead and I had to take them out of the soil to protect my other plants. Upon taking them back to Armstrong for my "refund" I was chastised by the saleswoman about my plant care practices. She inspected the plants and told me there were no spider mites despite my showing her photographs. She proceeded to tell me that I should always call ahead and consult them for plant advice. I almost laughed out loud. When I requested a full refund she said all she could do was issue me a gift card and that it was in the 'fine' print. They only will accept 'viable' plants that they can re-sell for a full refund. With COVID-19 safety practices, I was never presented with anything about the membership policy. The salesperson just signed me up on her computer... When I told the salesperson that upon returning the plant, she said it's in the fine print and I should pay attention next time - and only gave me a gift card. That said I will not be using that gift card anytime soon - nor will I buy my plants or anything else here again. Horrible experience and customer service.... read more

Really nice vibe here. As I walked through the offerings both in the front, near the busy street, and in the back, away from the noise and chaos, I felt calm and serene, as if enjoying a quiet tiny park outside of LaLa land. While the selection of what we were looking for wasn't as large as the outdoor offerings, we still bought 3 very different types of indoor plants. The light is dispersed unevenly in our home, and all of the messaging regarding their differing care and light exposure needs was very helpful. I have been growing my houseplant collection for over a year and this garden center just so happen to be around the corner. I have ventured all over SoCal visiting some of the best plant nurseries and while many may argue about prices, I would have to say, their prices are average and their plants are guaranteed healthy, they also have new inventory every other day, just as most nurseries do. But, there is something special about this location in particular. Carol, is a gem. I think she is starting to remember me, although not really sure since we are wearing masks. But even before then on every interaction, she has been extremely kind, helpful and genuinely engaging. She has taught me so much. A year ago, she gave me a recommendation for a particular fertilizer, that i have been using to care for my 80+ plants. I stopped by recently and she was telling me they were not able to order any more for reasons unknown. I was devastated. She told me she had (1) bottle left that was behind the counter, reserved for her and she selflessly gave it to me. It was the last in all of their stores in SoCal.... I could've cried.
