Finally selected another option on the phone line and asked them why nobody at the reception is picking up. They transferred me to the reception and now someone picked up. When asked why calls were not answered she seemed frustrated and said they get 300 calls a day and hence the delay. In the background I could hear chatting and laughter. I mentioned this was concerning and asked if I should be calling throughout the day so that i can get a hold of them. She said yes - try calling through out the day and maybe sombody will pick up. I heard the providers here are really good. But what a shame if I cannot even get a hold of someone if I need to communicate last minute.

After extensive research, I selected Dr. Towbin. Even my gastroenterologist said that if he had a hernia that he too would go to Dr. Towbin -- that really reassured me. Dr. Towbin and the staff was great throughout the entire experience. The surgery was successful. I felt very little pain afterwards thanks to his skill . Within 3 days, I was walking around. Dr Pepin ordered an expensive endoscopy, even though I had one relatively recently. Although he did not find anything overly disturbing he then recommended a fairly expensive ultrasound. The same day I had the ultrasound he phoned and told me to undergo a gall-bladder removal surgery due to some stones being "present" (even though I did not exhibit symptoms typical of having gallbladder stones) He recommended a surgeon from Polyclinic, which upon checking happened to be relatively a novice. So I end up self-referring to a much more experienced surgeon in a different clinic. Upon carefully examining me, that surgeon was very reluctant to perform a surgery on me, due to the lack of symptoms present when someone has gallbladder stones. She recommended I get a second opinion from a different gastroenterologist, who upon examining ordered a second ultrasound. The second ultrasound in the different clinic has shown no gallstones present ! When confronting Dr Pepin with this new fining, he told me he isn't at fault for urging me to undergo a $30,000+ surgery, since he (blindly ?) relied on the ultrasound to come up with his recommendation (even though he ought to have examined me first for the conforming symptoms, instead of rashly urging me to go under the knife over the phone!). He told me he gave me the "best possible care", and that I wasn't "nice" for demanding at very least the refund of the initial faulty ultrasound. He also needlessly threatened to send me to the collection agency, even though his bills weren't even past due and, as I always do, I fully intended to pay them even without any adjustments!

Dr Gregory Bernstein caused long-term, likely permanent, pain and bowel dysfunction after…read morerecommending and performing a procedure September 2025 which future colorectal providers described as contraindicated to symptoms, without cause (the procedure was on an asymptomatic hemorrhoid, incidentally noted during colonoscopy), and likely with improper technique, due to the facility's preemptive use of nitroglycerin. He rushed through the first appointment we had, and didn't ask many questions. Half my responses were mischarted, and he cut me off wherever I tried to ask questions, or provide detail. When confronted with the severe pain (like, in tears, after previously tolerating a thrombosed hemorrhoid), he was a condescending jerk, and tried to minimize the pain as just anxiety, initially refusing to do any exam, and never performing a DRE, before or after, actively delaying receiving the right diagnosis and treatment in a timely manner which may have helped to undo the damage he contributed to. He just said to schedule an appointment a few months out, canceled a sooner follow up I had, and it would be gone by then if I used Nitroglycerin (which both didn't work, and added to irritation). Bernstein instructed a n to initially refuse to share a list of PT providers, until I finished two more bandings. He then charged my insurance $1k for a second procedure he never performed. (Edit: this was marked as an office surgery in claim, but the CPT code was correct in EOB. He did bill initial visit at 45 to 60 minutes, despite less than 15 minutes of interaction). On Yelp, others have described similar incidents, and being guided into a procedure recommended as "painless", without proper informed consent, and without explanation, concern, or followup when persistent or severe pain is the outcome. The entity had a negative reputation from both a local colorectal specialist, and PT. I tried to switch providers at GastroHealth, stating to front desk that I did not trust Bernstein, but was told that wouldn't be possible, and to seek referral to hospital system (months out) instead, with access to any provider removed. After leaving a negative review due to causing a complication, then cutting off care, Dr Bernstein "graciously" rescheduled video visits (for a rectal injury), where he contributed nothing remotely valuable.

Said I might have SIBO which is a bacterial overgrowth in my small intestine. Very condescending attitude toward me, treated me like a child. Took a total of 7 mos to see him and get an appt for a colonoscopy and endoscopy. 2 days before my procedure, the office is calling to tell me my insurance is no longer valid. I canceled and haven't gone back. Also, when I got home from my original appt with Dr Mason, I looked up SIFO online and it is a small intestine FUNGAL overgrowth which Mason said there was no such thing. It has been medically reviewed since 2015. My PCP has been treating me with an anti- fungal and it has made all the difference in the world!!! Looking for a new GI Dr that accepts my insurance. Gastro health sucks... all the good Drs have left for better places. I've been going there for 30yrs and my husband for 10. Never again!
