I great place to visit for coronary heart disease! I really had high hopes based off the reviews, sadly I was disappointed by the flavors and excessive amount of grease and cheese. Keep in mind I have had plenty of Tex Mex food in California, Arizona, and Texas... this place does not measure up. I ordered the number 3 combo (two tacos and two enchiladas) and it was just horrible. The rice and beans were not cooked from scratch, there were no veggies (no lettuce for shucks sakes!), they did the thing I absolutely hate the most...using the same meats and incorporating it by adding it into a separate dish). The enchiladas had zero sauce inside and the chicken was dry and flavorless. Excessive amounts of an all items but the dry rice. I like cheese but the cheese was over kill. What can I say? Served as a platter - you can choose a variety of assortment that comes with rice and beans. I tried the birria tacos, birria quesadillas and pork belly tacos. The birria quesadillas are my favorite! The birria meat is soft, tender and so flavorful. The rice is flurry and full of flavor & I'm not typically a fan of beans but these were the perfect compliments the meal. Since leaving SoCal, I've experienced some pretty bad Mexican food in the Midwest. Who would've thought that the best Mexican food out here, and just the best Mexican food ever I've had, would be from an Arod themed Tex Mex restaurant in the food court of an Asian grocery store. I wanted to try out the birria here for dinner, as that's a classic that I was introduced to in SoCal. But they didn't have any. While I was sad, I compromised by getting the chicken tacos and the spicy pork quesadillas. Holy crap did this place deliver on the flavor. The quesadillas were drenched in oily goodness from the pork and had a bit of cilantro and onion on them, which is the classic toppings I want. It wouldn't be Tex Mex without cheese, and there was a lot of that too. Chicken is usually dry and flavorless at other Mexican places, but here it was so juicy and tasty. The corn tortillas were a great vessel for the chicken, cheese, cilantro, and onions (better than the flour), and it was perfect for dipping into the birria dipping sauce, which honestly was overkill. There was enough delicious flavor in the food itself, that I didn't need even more salty, fatty goodness to top it off. I mean I still dunked my food in it, but it definitely wasn't needed. The rice and beans were fine, not bad but not great. But everything else was so good, I didn't care. And the pricing was great for the large amount of food. My body tapped out halfway through from the overwhelming amount of umami, cholesterol, and sodium, which I was happy about as it meant I would have a delicious lunch the next day. I'm telling ya. Screw Chipotle and all the other Mexican restaurants in East Madison, this is the place to eat. read more

I read some really positive reviews about this place, and the owner's story is a compelling one. I really wanted to love it. My wife and I were at the World Market food court, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to give Arod's a try. This is at a food court, so I wasn't expecting sit-down ambiance or fancy presentations, nor do I think it would be fair to judge them on those criteria. Oh, but the food . I ordered a brisket chimichanga (brisket and pork belly are supposed to be their specialties), along with chips and salsa. The chimi' is supposed to have beans, rice, cheese, cheese sauce, onion, cilantro and sour cream and hot sauce on the side. The chips were supposed to be fresh fried with a "dusting" of special seasoning and served with homemade salsa. The chimi was huge, and loaded with brisket, beans rice and cheese. But there was no cheese sauce that I could see, and the onion and cilantro were undetectable. The hot sauce was good, with a medium amount of heat. The chips and salsa were an absolute disaster. The chips were NOT freshly made, they tasted day-old. Only a couple had any crunch to speak of. And the dusting of seasoning were concentrated on about four of the very thick and heavy chips. The salsa was terrible. It tasted like someone just blitzed some under-ripe tomatoes in a blender. I couldn't taste any onion, seasoning, salt, or anything else in it. I am neither Texan or Mexican, and my homemade salsa runs circles around what they call salsa. I was really looking forward to trying this place. I had Arod's for the first time last week and the service was great. I wanted to try Birria tacos but most places do the traditional way and Arod's offered chicken and shrimp birria so I was able to try it without having to worry that it would be beef or pork and was pleasantly surprised how good they were I will definitely go back to get more the tacos was served with rice and beans and salsa the price was reasonable. I visited Arod's and got the brisket quesadillas and brisket enchiladas. They were phenomenal!! The meat was tender and the salsa was unique and flavorful. Service was quick friendly and efficient and my meal was served hot and with rice and beans. I'm a rice and beans type of girl and these were not my favorite by far. Well, the portions are large. I had the three beef taco combo. I thought the tacos were way too salty, otherwise tasty. My other three friends had burritos, which would feed two people.
