I was encouraged by my son to try the Newport Diner. I love diners for their speed and for the people who dine there, and the staff. So we went. I almost passed it, because from the outside it looks nothing like I was expecting. It looks like a house and blends in with neighboring homes. Love that. Inside the decor is simple. Comfy. The staff was responsive, alert, efficient, and VERY friendly. The food was amazing. Portions were generous. The coffee was great. Usually we do breakfast with our friend, and I remember once I had a combo meal and was a little surprised to find an up-charge for the pumpkin pancakes and no refill on the iced tea. It probably said so on the menu so I look more carefully now. Once I had a 55+ breakfast, which was a lower cost and was fine. Most recently I went with the Smokehouse Combo so I could have the larger and more tasty smoked sausage links. Our friend really likes their breakfast crepes, but I haven't tried them yet because my wife makes a great crepe and why risk being disappointed? Well, our friend has gone south for the winter, so we won't be back there for quite a while, but I will be glad to return there in the spring.

The service has been great. You walk up to the deli counter to order and you pay at the store register. They also have chips, pastries (some homemade) and a huge selection of drinks as it is also a convenience store, coffee stop. If you are eating in they will bring the food to your table. Dysarts isn't what I would call a destination restaurant for us, but if we have an appointment near one or are going by, it is at the top of the list for a quick meal.

Turns out it is even better than I thought, because I really tested it this time. Anglers describes itself as a seafood place, and indeed they make the best fried scallops I have tried anywhere around here. I usually pair them with clams or oysters for a seafood combo for that reason. But I went in a different direction this time. Partly, I admit, due to the current market pricing, as the current cost is breathtaking, but also because it occurred to me that a kitchen that can provide the very best of a particular dish probably does well at other choices. So I went with the linguine veggie scampi. Then it came down to what type of potato I wanted for my one side dish, so I up-charged my way to sweet potato fries, which were good as always. My wife went with the dependable fish and chips and made sure she included their garlic-smashed potatoes as a side. And what can I say, my veggie scampi was delicious! It came with a pointy French baguette sort of thing and was quite a healthy-sized portion. I must confess that I don't remember exactly what our dinner companion had, but it involved scallops and lemon and she really liked it. Rosie was our server so we received efficient and fun service. Normally you pay on the way out, but this was just before the dinner rush, so she offered to handle the transaction at the table.
