Giving this a two star as staff were attentive. We had a party of 9 for lunch. 6 ordered burgers. Food took an hour. Burger buns were burnt, and burgers were very small. Blacken chicken sandwich was tasteless and very boring. The best thing about this restaurant was the espresso martini. That's the only thing I would go back for. I am giving this restaurant one star because of the very unpleasant experience I had along with three of my friends on 2/28/25. The restaurant has a known ongoing septic issue per the staff, manager and owner Mario. The night we were there the smell didn't begin or wasn't noticeable until our food was just about ready to arrive. As we were eating the smell became very noticeable and extremely unpleasant. There's not much more to say other than the establishment should be closed down until the septic issued is completely resolved. I'm pretty sure the health department would be concerned as well. A few key notes: 1. The server says " We are aware of the problem. After a few drinks you wont even notice the smell." 2. Upon speaking with both the manager and Mario in both of their exact words " We REFUSE to give any food back as a compromise. We can offer one drink or one desert to one person only." 3. Our total bill was close to $400. **So you tell me fellow patrons- I feel at least compensating all of us each a drink and desert is definitely not asking too much. In fact, to make the unpleasant experience a positive one asking us to come back for a free meal on him would be the correct thing to do especially being a newer establishment in a small town/community. This was our first time visiting this restaurant, and maybe the last! Everything about the experience was fantastic--from the food to the ambiance. We chose to sit outdoors, and the setting was perfect, especially with the beautiful weather. As locals, we're always looking for new places to try. As I mentioned everything was great; until the server came back with our change. As I mentioned we are locals, my daughter is a manager at one of the restaurants on the wharf, I used to own a restaurant and have worked retail. A restaurant always ensures it has plenty of change on hand, including a good supply of one-dollar bills--especially since they operate a full-service bar. My daughter asked for change, intending to leave a 22% gratuity. She specifically requested ten one-dollar bills and two five-dollar bills. It took quite a while for the server to return, and overall, the service wasn't very attentive during our visit, with the server only checking on us twice. When she returned with the change, it wasn't what we had requested and lacked any one-dollar bills. She informed us that this was all she could do, which wasn't the most considerate response to a customer. As a result, we decided to leave a 10% tip. My daughter was not happy with the experience. It was clear what the server was trying to do, likely assuming we were tourists. However, as I mentioned, we are locals. We had planned to return with others, but this incident was so disappointing that we're reconsidering. My daughter, who also works in food service, mentioned that she plans to share this experience with her co-workers--they'll probably find it amusing. read more

Aroma in Ben Lomond. Went on Monday, 10/30/23. (Drink Menu photos posted after food pics) I forgot to take a photo of our favorite appetizer before we had almost finished it, but we got the coconut prawns and honestly best coconut prawns I have eaten! The sauce (some citrus taste but also some sweet, not sure what ingredients were but it) was amazing!! I would put that sauce on all the seafood! I would even drive back up to the valley JUST for that appetizer! (Edit: after looking at their online menu it says the sauce is a "coconut curry sauce" and I'm usually not a huge curry fan but that sauce didn't taste like a usual curry, and it was memorable since I'm still thinking about it 2.5 months later!) We also had the crab cakes, they were good too but the Coconut Prawns were so incredible they took the appetizer award! Of our party of four, one had the Tyrolean Schnitzel (me), and the three others had the steak, the Aleppo prawns and the paella. Everyone said they loved their food, personally my schnitzel (it was pork) was wonderful (I got the mushroom sauce on the side so the breading wouldn't get all soggy) and the schnitzel dipped in that mushroom sauce was . My only complaint about my meal was the garlic mashed potatoes were so salty, I didn't even eat them. (And previous to this meal, I haven't ever met a potato I don't love!) We had a 5pm reservation on a Monday, and the first 35-45 mins we were the only table in there and had lovely conversation, right before 6pm the place filled up--every table full!--and it was very hard to have a conversation or hear the people at your table cause it's so loud inside. That was my only complaint about the ambience. To summarize I'd go back for the coconut prawn app in a heartbeat! (But also I'd show up and make it an early bird special, so I can hear myself think! ) Overall I'm giving the experience four stars mainly cause of the prawn app, removing a star from the five that app actually deserves cause of the inedible, salty mashed potatoes they plated as a side dish! read more

Ordered lunch online via DoorDash, order was confirmed and paid for. Arrived to pick up at scheduled time but the order was not fulfilled and no one knew about it. The explanation from the staff was that they weren't checking incoming orders because their tablet was off. Once they turned their tablet on - my order was there but instead of a simple apology or making it up for missing the order, the staff gave me remarks that they are not responsible for these online orders. How exactly accepting online orders but not being responsible for fulfilling them is professional - I don't know. Visited with my family a little while back, we had the complimentary french bread and focaccia bread with an olive topenade which was I thought was good even though I am not a huge fan of olives. For the entree's we shared a Penne Pasta with Pesto as well as their special which was a truffle mushroom ravioli. Both of these dishes were phenomenal, the best mushroom ravioli and pesto pasta I have had in a very long time. I had a lemon sorbet for dessert which was also great. The service was fantastic as well and the person attending to us was very enthusiastic. Excited to try this establishment for the first time. Getting into the restaurant was ...interesting as the entrance was not obvious. Inside was upbeat but it became clear that it was all about the full length bar. With 2 fireplaces going it was a cozy atmosphere. We both ordered the veal saltimbocca and a side salad. GF asked for chamomile tea but the waiter did not know what that was. GF had her own teabag with her and was given a cup of hot water at no charge. The salads were interesting with pickled onions, kalamata olives and a marinated artichoke heart. The entre was a disappointment however. The veal was overdone and did not taste fresh. I can't believe I didn't take any photos. I must have been starving. But trust me, the food here is excellent. The El Pulpo salad has got to be the best salad I've ever tasted. The small bite-size wine-braised octopus was so incredibly tender, and the sauce/dressing that comes with the salad is light yet flavorful. The seafood chowder had a wonderful shellfish flavor. The fried artichokes were plump and tender. The carrot ginger soup was cold and refreshing. I will come back just for the octopus salad alone even though I live an hour away. read more

Mario, the owner, will charm you with Italian phrases, intermittent singing, and his friendly ways. He and his crew have done a bang-up job of modernizing and re-vamping the old Tyrolean Inn. We stopped in for lunch one day, great gourmet burger and fries and ceviche. The complimentary bread and olive oil/herb mix is top notch. There's a nice beer and wine selection to go with our lunch. We are looking forward to returning at night for a cocktail at the beautiful bar and to sample dinner offerings. One of the better options in the area with a well planned menu and good, friendly service. However, the food was hit or miss. The seafood pasta, grits with prawns and coconut shrimp were yummy, but the calamari was rubbery and overcooked and the artichoke hearts tasted like they were straight from a can. The food is also very rich, which can be a great thing if that's what you're looking for. For the price, I would expect a bit more. That said, the ambiance is very lovely. read more

Let's be real. Restaurants in the San Lorenzo Valley can be kind of hit and miss. This is a hit, big time. Lots of international taste profiles executed perfectly. We had the Aleppo prawns, braised Lamb Shank and the short rib appetizer. Everything was prepped and plated beautifully, and the seasoning was on point. The saffron grits with the prawns was spectacular. The bartender made a fantastic Corpse Reviver, and we had a lovely bottle of Amarone (priced right). The service was impeccable, with lots of attention and care. We will be back to try more of this menu, and often. When family visits, we'll be bring them along! My mother-in-law has several food allergies and they were able to make most dishes gluten-free for her. She and the server worked together to make her a dish she could and was excited to eat.
