My husband and I were in the area, for his birthday. I went into the shop and asked if I was in the right place. Lisa, the baker, came out from the kitchen and told me I was. I asked if she could possibly make a cake for Craig's bday, which was the next day. it was one of the most beautiful and delicious cakes, I've ever had. we both loved it. she did such an amazing job. We stopped here for some morning treats during a recent stay at a local AirBNB. This place has lots of small-town goodness. An older gentleman came in and the staff recognized him and chatted with him, and I just love the charm it lent to this bakery experience. We settled on a delicious slice of chocolate chip bread and a cinnamon roll. The bread was really thick, heavy like a pound cake, and studded with chocolate chips. What was not to love? The cinnamon roll had crunchy edges, but someone has to eat the rolls that line the outside of the pan. After that outer layer, there was so much cinnamon goodness, and it was thick and plentiful. The roll itself was the perfect blend of chewiness and dough, not too bread-like at all. The cream cheese frosting was generous and delicious. All in all, I'd come back in a heartbeat for more treats! They do have an ATM in case you need cash. Street parking was easy to find. read more

We ordered desserts from Lori for our Roaring Camp wedding in November 2021, and everything was amazing! We chose a small two-tier cutting cake, as well as mini cupcakes, eclairs, mini pies, and brownies. The cake flavor we chose was orange, which was THE BEST cake I've ever had. Sadly we left the very next morning for our honeymoon, and I wasn't able to save some for our return, but I brought a big chunk of it with me on the way to the airport and just sat there in the car eating cake for breakfast - refusing to let it go. We'll have to order a small one someday soon! Lori was super sweet to work with, and set everything up beautifully with the dessert trays I'd bought. From the moment we stepped into the kitchen to do our dessert tasting, which was amazing by the way, we knew she was the best one out there. Lori is just amazing and a wonderful person. I hired her for my wedding on October 06, 2018. The pleasant experience of working with Lori started from my first visit to her kitchen in Boulder Creek. Lori had prepared such a special tasting with several options to select from and towards to the end, we got take all the goodies home. She was so warm and friendly. And I knew right away that I wanted to work with her. We ordered a 3-tier cake with 2 different cake flavors and lots of different other treats of our dessert bar. I changed my mind a few about the cake and dessert before the wedding and the switches were made with no issues or price change. She coordinated the delivery in Scotts Valley. And all went smoothly without me having to follow-up. Lori created the most delicious and memorable cake of my life and I am so grateful for it! All the guests raved about the cake and desserts and were happy that they got to enjoy little of everything (the beauty of ordering more I guess). We also took quite a bit of the cake home and I am pleased to say that weeks later it was still moist and slamming! This is the best kept secret in the Santa Cruz Mountains. My business buys all our custom desserts from Dessert First. So far they have made us boxes of pastries, like lemon squares, mini pecan pies, chocolate ganaches, and mini-cheese cakes. Each pie crust is flakey and made with butter. And everything else is made with sugar. Buttercream frostings are fluffy and never too heavy. The whipped cream frostings stay stable for days. We have ordered and sampled a delightfully light lemon-poppy seed cake with effortlessly light whipped cream icing, a angel-food and fresh strawberry filled caked, and chocolate cake filled with rum and strawberries. If you want a custom cake or pastry, this is the place to go! You can have it just the way you want! If you have a reciepe for your grandma's special cookies, she can make it for you too. You won't find it on the map though, it's hidden back behind the Coffee House that front's the business. Just go into the Coffee place and ask for Dessert First and sometimes you can even pick up a fresh huge muffin or a pastry just out of the oven in the display Cake prices run between 20.00 to 35.00 depending on how many layers. I called 13 bakeries before I found Lori; she was the only person who said she would make a chocolate Guinness cake and make it exactly as my daughter wanted it: a traditional 3 tiered cake, white frosting, and no decorations. She explained that the cake would be slightly off-white because she uses Italian butter cream frosting. I told her that my daughter made her own cake top, and Lori was happy to make it work. Lori was great about returning my phone calls and emails, and I never had one worry from the very first time I spoke to her! She asked me to send a photo of the cake top and show the size of it, so that she was sure the top tier would work out perfectly. She even brought a heavy cake box so that we could box the top layer for our daughter to take with her after the wedding. She even gave tips to my friend who would be cutting and serving the cake for me. I had a perfect experience ordering from Lori from the first phone call until she delivered and set up. AND, she gave me the best price of any other baker who would make a different chocolate cake. So I say, call Lori, and let her make your event a great one.
