As you enter, you'll see the produce section, which is neat and very fresh looking. I bought a pack of avocados and each one was perfect. There are the usual market items (like meats, seafoods, chips, etc.), but few (if any) national brands. They also have some dinnerware, like bowls and such, made by local artisans. They looked really nice, and I was tempted to buy some but resisted. The star, though, is their deli. There's a good selection of premade sandwiches, salads, sushi, baked goods, and some hot food items. You can also have sandwiches made to order. They have a few "signature" sandwiches, but you can also build your own. My only small complaint is they only have vegan mayo. It's not bad, and not very noticeable, but it lacks the creaminess and flavor of real mayo. What we ordered: + Roaring Camp signature sandwich - this is turkey with cranberry relish on your choice of bread (I chose sliced sourdough). It was excellent. + Custom sandwich on sourdough roll - the roll was fantastic; slightly soft and chewy. Sandwich was excellent. + Potato salad - this was very dill heavy and a little runny (vegan mayo?), but after a few bites, it really grew on us. By the end, we were loving it. My girlfriend and I were here and a lady was randomly so mean to me for trying to smell a scrub in the wellness aisle. A simple you're not allowed to smell that would have been fine but she yelled at me from across the aisle and spoke to me very crazy. I've lived in Felton since 2019, Santa Cruz native. My wife and I appreciate having a natural foods store nearby. Although we don't do all of our grocery shopping here, cause that would be fairly expensive and they don't have everything we need for our big grocery runs, we do shop here at least 2-3 times a week. Very frequently grabbing a sandwich, or sushi or something else easy on the go. The produce is great, the meat we've gotten from the butcher has been good, but we don't buy it often. Big praise for Patrick and Peggy in the deli, those two are amazing employees. Helpful, patient and always polite. I understand not all the customers are easy, that's an understatement, but those two hold it down and are awesome. A couple of the younger guys in the deli are a bit grumpy and seem to hate their job, but not a big deal. Also love Max, who works the register but usually stocks, he's awesome too. He's super helpful and works fast, nice guy. Give Patrick, Peggy and Max a raise! Their signature sandwiches are generously sized and the ingredients are quality. Fairly priced for what we've come to expect these days. The premade breakfast burritos are great, so is a lot of the other food you can get from the deli area. So anytime I go camping or a day trip somewhere, I'll always search out a local market where I can stock up on food and drinks. I'll bring some stuff from my fridge as to get rid of somethings, but some things I wanna get it as fresh as I can. Plus it'll support the local economy on where I am visiting. Wild Roots is super similar to a Whole Foods selection wise. Everything is organic and more natural, thus avoiding the national brands. The meats and produce are more upscale, thus also more expensive. For a few days worth of stuff, I don't compare prices around. I just go with one place. There's about 5 long aisles, most things you find at a regular grocery store, you'll be able to find here, just in that Whole Foods mode of quality. They had a counter butchery with very little already wrapped and ready. If you're getting meat, you'll have to go through somebody, old school style. I kinda like it. I was able to get a 'whole' naturally raised flank steak for a really good price. Like $12/lb, but you had to get the whole slab, they wouldn't cut it for you, as it gets harder to sell to people as they collect smaller pieces. Understandable. I walked away with 1 3/4 lb, when all I wanted was a pound or slightly over. Just had bigger portions for the meals that's all. Lol There's also a deli area that seems popular during the day hours. I didn't try, as I like to get my ingredients and make my own snacks and sandwiches as I go. I did get a large baguette from here from a Watsonville bakery that was awesome. It was a dense and chewy sourdough with all kinds of seeds on the outside, most being pumpkin seeds. I've never seen that before so I had to try. It was legit and very filling. Like a little 4 inch slab, cut to make a sandwich was incredibly filling and satisfying. I munched on this with different things for my trip. I came in twice on my 3 day stay, for small pick ups and ice. The cashiers were pretty nice and the parking area is suffice. Easy ins and outs. That's all I need for my mini-vacay's grocery needs. read more

This review is mainly directed at the deli. I have to say that the rest of the store has a good assortment and the produce is quality. HOWEVER, the deli has certainly gone downhill with the sandwiches in particular. The sandwich pictured is their signature "Henry Cowell" sandwich. I understand that times are tough with inflation, but it was a $10 sandwich, so I do expect more as far as quality. It's safe to say I will not be getting a sandwich at this location again. The juice and smoothie bar are great, but the sandwiches have been weak the past few times I have gone to this location, and today's just pushed me over the edge. Once our favorite grocery store in the mountains--not anymore. About 6 months ago, we asked the meat counter for two filets. The gentleman picked up the 2nd steak, and sure enough a white wiggling maggot fell off. We were appalled and honestly could not stomach red meat for a long time after this. We called the store to speak to the manager but they were not available so we left a message but never received a call back. Understanding that these things happen here and there, we continued to shop at Wild Roots for we would rather support local businesses and they have a great selection of local and alternative foods. But, this past weekend, we bought a bunch of broccoli. Inspected it as usual and tossed the florets in a clear bag. When about to use for a stir fry, we realized the little purple spots were not natural broccoli coloration. Instead a bunch of tiny bugs (see picture). We're not talking a few, there were hundreds, covering the broccoli and not wanting to budge. We will be going down to Santa Cruz to do our food shopping from now on. read more

This is the best grocery store ever. Ever. They have a bakery in house. A deli. Quality natural meats from a butcher... and if you go in the morning the best bacon hot and ready to eat that you have ever had in your entire life. Like it's now the only bacon I eat. Amazing. I come here twice a week and I have for many years and have never had a negative experience. The employees are kind, helpful, and extremely caring towards customers and humans. This is my favorite market/grocery store in Felton. They have a lot of CBD products, and they also carry the full line of flower essences that have been the biggest help with continuing to heal from the 2 assaults last year, and my recent as well as old grief. My favorite thing about this place is that the store donates .10 to a charity (you can choose from several) for every bag you reuse. One time a woman helped me carry my soup from the deli all the way to the check-out. They keep fairly good hours for a small community grocery.
