Aromas has only been open a few months, and really deserves your support. While they've inhabited a space long associated with fast-casual chains, the food and hospitality in this family-run restaurant far exceed the look and feel of the venue, though they have added some homey Indian touches that help you understand this is nobody's franchise. They have a lunch buffet available for $18.99, offering up what I would call "the greatest hits of Indian food that all Americans like." It's quite a reasonable price, and all of the items looked very good; but, the selection is, understandably, on the mild end of the spectrum, and I was in the mood for some heat. Instead, I opted to order Lamb Vindaloo off the regular menu, along with Paratha, the bread I tend to like more than Naan these days. The lamb arrived piping hot and smelling great. The meat was tender and fresh, with a pleasingly mild lamb taste (not at all gamey). The sauce was rich with tomato and spices, and the spice level of "medium" was just right for me -- a nice punch of heat that didn't overpower the flavor or the experience. A drizzle of Raita provided a cooling and creamy contrast -- and when a piece of that lamb was eaten in tandem with a tear of Paratha, the bite was pretty much perfect. The menu includes a large selection of appetizers and beers, making it totally possible to create an Indian tapas experience for yourself and your friends if you want without even getting into mains. Additionally, the menu has a wide variety of entrees featuring chicken, lamb, fish, paneer and all manner of veggies. There are vegetarian and vegan options, and I have to imagine anyone can find something here they'll enjoy. Give it a try and you'll likely come away happy. read more

Aromas serves up an extensive menu of Indian food and when I say "extensive," it is truly extensive. We spent a long time viewing the menu and had a hard time deciding what to order cause we wanted to try so many dishes out. Service was overall good - staff were friendly and communicative. I ordered online for pick-up and my food was just a few minutes behind the anticipated schedule, but they were very good about letting me know and keeping me updated, which I really appreciated. The dining space is relatively large, so there's plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. As for the food, we got the following... 1. Pani Pani (3.5/5) Hollow crispy fried dough shells that are filled with chickpeas and potatoes. We felt the filling could have been a bit more. It's served with a side of green sauce, which was slightly spicy, but did add a bit of herb-ly spice flavor 2. Gobi Manchurian (3/5) Crispy cauliflower florets in sweet and spicy Indo-Chinese sauce topped with green scallions. The flavor is similar to/reminds me of sweet and sour chicken, but it's mostly sweet and mildly spicy. It's hard to get crispy cauliflower dishes right. For 1, cauliflower is very moist, so to make it "crispy" is naturally a challenge. On top of that, we did order it as take out, so the prolonged time in the container doesn't help either. 3. Tandoori Shrimp (3/5) Jumbo shrimp marinated in tandoori spices and grilled in clay over. The shrimp had a nice succulent texture - plump & fleshy. The flavor was ok - there is a mix of spice flavors, but overall, it was not very special or outstanding. 4. Chicken Tikka (3.75/5) Boneless chicken that is marinated in yogurt and Indian spices. It is supposedly grilled in a clay over to give it a juicy, smoky flavor. Our opinion of this dish was that the flavor was decent - definitely taste the spices, the sourness from the yogurt and the smokiness of the way it was grilled. However, it was not juicy. The chicken meat was actually quite dry. 5. Baningan Bharta (5/5) Mashed fire-roasted eggplant with onions, tomatoes and Indian spices. This dish was really good. They really know how to turn eggplant into something delicious to eat. The eggplants were not mushy in texture, but rather, it provided a pleasant eggplant flavor along with a rich mix of spice and onions, all made into a thick stew-like consistency. pairs well with naan or pita bread. 6. Onion Naan (5/5) Perfectly baked soft naan bread that's topped with onion and green onions/parsley. Lightly savory. Pairs well with any curry or masala dishes. 7. Mushroom Bhaji (4.5/5) Fresh button mushrooms with onions, tomatoes and Indian spices. The mushrooms were flavorful, yet tender with an earthy flavor. 8. Goat Korma (4/5) If you like that gamey lamb flavor, this dish is for you. The meat was tender and the creamy cashew and yogurt sauce gave it a rich, nutty-tangy flavor. It's also supposed to have cardamom, but I was not able to taste it distinctly. The aromatic Indian spices does help cut out some of the gamey-ness. Overall, not a bad experience for Indian cuisine. I'd like to give them another try as dine-in next time to see if there's a difference. read more

When we went in today we were greeted by the beautiful family. Such sweet children! Made us feel welcomed. The restaurant is nice and very clean. The food was good and reasonably priced. We had samosas, chicken tikka, vegetable masala, and naan. Everything was good. On our way out, we noticed that they have a buffet. It's every day but I don't remember when they stop serving it. We will definitely go back to try it out and support this family business. read more

Lunch Buffet is wonderful! Lots of variety! Beef, chicken, different curry sauces, veggie options, a bunch of others and of course rice. It also comes with regular or garlic naan. I don't understand the glowing reviews. I went for dinner and the food was okay. I appreciated that their butter chicken was not sweet as a lot of local Indian restaurants seem to add sugar to makhani and masala dishes but it otherwise lacked the richness and depth of flavor that a good makhani has. The bengan bharta was inedible - the eggplant was extremely bitter. The best items were the mint chutney and the onion naan. I'm very disappointed. Ever since Taj Mahal in Encino closed, I've been looking for a great Indian restaurant in the Valley. The search continues. read more

I am really sad to say this, but this was not good. I adore Indian food, so this is a big bummer. I ordered paneer tikka masala, shahi paneer, and aloo matar. I ordered all mild and there was barely any flavor. They were watery and didn't really taste like anything. I have ordered mild at other Indian places and the food still tastes good. I am so bummed because this place is highly rated. Also, the curry entrees didn't mention that rice is included with the curry. I ordered rice and then extra rice came with it. I am so glad this place opened. I've been to India and it's so hard to find some good authentic spices in the food. I've only had this today as I wasn't hungry, but wanted to try something. Really delicious Indian food! The interior of the restaurant was super clean and the service was friendly and attentive! We ordered the butter chicken, garlic naan, onion bhaji, and mango lassi. It's not a buffet, it's a combo meal where you get a choice of entree that comes with naan, daal, salad, and if you order the tandoori, you get saag paneer as well. My wife got the chicken curry combo. I also got a mango lassi. All of the food was very good and at a very reasonable price. The chicken curry and the saag paneer were outstanding though. Also, my mango lassi was excellent. The service was friendly and the owner was very pleasant to speak with. Yummy We ordered the Butter chicken. Absolutely delicious. Flavorful and the chicken was cooked perfectly (not rubbery like at other places. We ordered it extra spicy which was definitely spicy. Lamb Korma. Perfectly cooked and so flavorful. Would definitely order again. Lamb was tender and not overcooked at all. Also ordered the garlic Naan. HUGE portion and delicious. For drinks we had the Lychee Lime which was more on the lychee side. Not too sweet. Loved it. The berry Lassie was the only thing that was average (wasn't very sweet but I'm used to mango lassie). Excellent! My husband and I tried the Daal Tadka, Aloo Gobi, samosas, garlic naan, and pani puri -- all vegetarian and soooo good! I honestly think this was the best daal tadka I've had outside of India (I have family in Mumbai). The servers/owners (I think) are very sweet and super keen to make sure you enjoy the experience. I saw a sign saying "free chai" but after eating too much of everything I just couldn't fit it. The chef told us that his family in India were all chefs and his dad worked in a 5 -star hotel in Delhi. No wonder! The flavours were subtle and layered and the spice level was perfect -- we ordered "hot" and it was enough to give a good kick without overpowering the flavour. Restaurant is new and clean, the new owners were friendly and gave us recommendations. Mango lassi: superb and yogurty Goat curry: goat isn't everyone s favorite meat bc of the taste and smell. This one has neither samosa: twas good, green chutney was so good we wanted to buy a bottle of it (I think they do sell it if you ask) Tikka masala: savory sweet rich creamy.
