The table behind us that arrived some time after we did were given their papadum starter, drinks, and food before we were. What was more, another server came with our food and joked our kufta dish has chicken in it. Then he said he's kidding. This was not funny. I am, after all, vegetarian. The kuftas were too thick and hard to eat with naan. I did like the garlic basic naan. The rotis were too tough. We took the leftovers but neither of us actually wanted the food. I discarded all of it. This is most unlike us as we hate wasting food but the whole experience and food itself left a bad taste in my mouth. We came here very hungry after a long day. We browsed for restaurants open after 10pm on Sunday and finally came across this place. My boyfriend had come to visit me in Santa Clarita Valley from Downtown LA. The chana masala was enjoyable, but it felt like it was missing just a little something. I can't quite put my finger on it--maybe a touch more depth or spice? It's quite a reasonable price, and all of the items looked very good; but, the selection is, understandably, on the mild end of the spectrum, and I was in the mood for some heat. Instead, I opted to order Lamb Vindaloo off the regular menu, along with Paratha, the bread I tend to like more than Naan these days. The lamb arrived piping hot and smelling great. The meat was tender and fresh, with a pleasingly mild lamb taste (not at all gamey). The sauce was rich with tomato and spices, and the spice level of "medium" was just right for me -- a nice punch of heat that didn't overpower the flavor or the experience. A drizzle of Raita provided a cooling and creamy contrast -- and when a piece of that lamb was eaten in tandem with a tear of Paratha, the bite was pretty much perfect. The menu includes a large selection of appetizers and beers, making it totally possible to create an Indian tapas experience for yourself and your friends if you want without even getting into mains. Additionally, the menu has a wide variety of entrees featuring chicken, lamb, fish, paneer and all manner of veggies. I ordered online for pick-up and my food was just a few minutes behind the anticipated schedule, but they were very good about letting me know and keeping me updated, which I really appreciated. The dining space is relatively large, so there's plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. As for the food, we got the following... 1. Pani Pani (3.5/5) Hollow crispy fried dough shells that are filled with chickpeas and potatoes. We felt the filling could have been a bit more. It's served with a side of green sauce, which was slightly spicy, but did add a bit of herb-ly spice flavor 2. Gobi Manchurian (3/5) Crispy cauliflower florets in sweet and spicy Indo-Chinese sauce topped with green scallions. The flavor is similar to/reminds me of sweet and sour chicken, but it's mostly sweet and mildly spicy. It's hard to get crispy cauliflower dishes right. For 1, cauliflower is very moist, so to make it "crispy" is naturally a challenge. On top of that, we did order it as take out, so the prolonged time in the container doesn't help either. 3. Tandoori Shrimp (3/5) Jumbo shrimp marinated in tandoori spices and grilled in clay over. The shrimp had a nice succulent texture - plump & fleshy. The flavor was ok - there is a mix of spice flavors, but overall, it was not very special or outstanding. 4. Chicken Tikka (3.75/5) Boneless chicken that is marinated in yogurt and Indian spices. It is supposedly grilled in a clay over to give it a juicy, smoky flavor. Our opinion of this dish was that the flavor was decent - definitely taste the spices, the sourness from the yogurt and the smokiness of the way it was grilled. However, it was not juicy. The chicken meat was actually quite dry. 5. Baningan Bharta (5/5) Mashed fire-roasted eggplant with onions, tomatoes and Indian spices. This dish was really good. They really know how to turn eggplant into something delicious to eat. The eggplants were not mushy in texture, but rather, it provided a pleasant eggplant flavor along with a rich mix of spice and onions, all made into a thick stew-like consistency. pairs well with naan or pita bread. 6. Onion Naan (5/5) Perfectly baked soft naan bread that's topped with onion and green onions/parsley. Lightly savory. Pairs well with any curry or masala dishes. 7. Mushroom Bhaji (4.5/5) Fresh button mushrooms with onions, tomatoes and Indian spices. The mushrooms were flavorful, yet tender with an earthy flavor. 8. Goat Korma (4/5) If you like that gamey lamb flavor, this dish is for you. The meat was tender and the creamy cashew and yogurt sauce gave it a rich, nutty-tangy flavor. It's also supposed to have cardamom, but I was not able to taste it distinctly. The aromatic Indian spices does help cut out some of the gamey-ness. Overall, not a bad experience for Indian cuisine. I'd like to give them another try as dine-in next time to see if there's a difference.

I'm heartbroken cuz when I got home and realized the mistake- I called back and politely said I thought I ordered the chicken tikka masala and was met with yelling of "I asked you if you wanted tikka or masala you said tikka!" He never asked me such a thing. Even when I was trying to pay for the rice pudding, i mentioned it was chicken masala and they acted very confused like the needed to make me one and have me pay for it. This is so dissapointing considering I've been coming here since I moved in 2021. I've been a longtime customer and local but after being treated that way- I'll be going elsewhere. The reason we didn't get to enjoy their food is that Assam does not open until 4 PM, remaining open until midnight. The Naan is a uniquely delectable and unexpected surprise, and both the Korma & Curry I had were delicious with rice. The fact that I had already eaten before arriving at Assam did nothing to dim the brightness of flavors for it is less how much one eats, but how good the flavors. This was an unexpected treat which continues to inspire my future return because the experience was amazing. The dishes normally would be chosen, either one or the other, simply because they are quite similar. The curry had a greater depth even as I found the Korma savory and delicious. My friend and Yelp reviewer, Gary I, had not tasted either (yet) therefore in order to review them he had to taste them for which I am delighted still.
