Went to have laptop fixed that powered on when I dropped it off. I was charged $90 to get my laptop back and it won't power on

My Dell Inspiron, all-in-one computer would not turn on, so on June 16, 2023 I took it here, along with the connection cords that went with it. Bill told me he'd check it out and should have it fixed for me in a few days. After calling and coming by several times, and it still wasn't ready, I finally was able to pick it up on July 23rd. That's over a month of waiting with never a phone call from him. When I did pick it up he told me it was an easy fix, that the connector was wiggly and he'd just put some solder in the hole to make it a little tighter so it would go in and hold. He charged me $111 for that. When he went to take the computer out to the car for me I noticed the cables he was holding and told him they didn't look like the right one - but he insisted that it was the one I had brought to him. When I got home and tried to plug it in, it didn't have the right end on it. Looking at it closer I saw that it wasn't even a Dell connection cable, it was for an HP. I've never owned an HP computer in my life. I called him the next day and told him that and he said he would look for mine. Didn't hear from him and checked with him a few days later and he said he hadn't been able to find it, but he'd keep looking. I had a huge project that I needed to take care of, and I really needed my computer to work. In addition to this being quite frustrating, his nonchalant attitude didn't help, He didn't seem to care that I had been without my computer for weeks and weeks when he said it would just be a few days, and every time I went in there I saw he had more and more computers sitting behind the counter that needed to be fixed. So, even though he didn't have time to work on them, he just kept taking them on, and who knows how they were being prioritized. Finally, realizing he was not going to help me, and researching trying to find one online, not even knowing what it was called wasn't working, I had to drive to Fresno to Best Buy to find one that that was compatible. Not counting my time and the gas, that cost me $69. That worked and my computer was fine, but I was not happy about all of these circumstances, and how much money, and time I was out, so I went back to see him. I asked him what he was going to do about the $69 I had to pay to replace my cable that he had lost. He kept saying it was around there somewhere. I said "well that doesn't help me, I still had to pay another $69 to replace what you lost, on top of giving you $111 to repair my computer, and there was nothing wrong with it but a wiggly cable. When I picked it up, you told me you had fixed that and it was working fine. It was not working fine. When I called and told you you gave me an HP cable when I had never owned an HP computer in my life, the drive to Fresno. I had to make because he lost my cable and he just ignored me. read more

I had a problem with one of my computers so I called Around Town Computer and spoke to Rob the owner, I really like our conversation so I took it to him ,very nice person. He repaired my lap top and was very reasonable and did a great job,so gave him my main computer that had been hacked. His technician went through it and cleaned it and took care of other problems that needed attention,it works great and their pricing was extremely fair. Great service!!! Brought in laptop to fix screen the service I got was Above and beyond... He show me how to fix my iCloud account, AMAZING. Set up a guest account with my appointments app for everyone at work ( did want everyone to have access to my accounts at work) I'm sure I could of done these on my own.... but he took a lot of stress off my plate! 55 bucks for "half an hour" of "work" is mind blowing. all I did was come in to have a power supply looked at just to be told that it doesn't work. I get it's a small business but be reasonable with your prices for specific things. I shouldn't have to pay almost the same amount of money that the part coast. read more

I brought my laptop in to get the plug-in for the charger fixed. They had the part so they were able to fix it the same day. And in the sense of recycle and re-use were able to give me a matching charger at no cost. I am super thankful for this computer repair shop! My computer backlight kept going out and it eventually never turned back on. I was able to take it into them and they fixed the problem and I only spent $120 rather than $1200 for a new MacBook. We have also given them my wife's computer so they could help it run faster. I spilled a cup of coffee on my MacBook Pro and brought it in the next day to Around-Town. Bill really knows his stuff and I could not have been happier with the service I received. This local repair shop in Hanford won my business for three reasons: #1) They repair custom built computers, #2) The owner, Rob, allowed me to bring in my CPU on the 4th of July, and #3) This business is local and I did not want to have to travel and leave my equipment in Fresno or Visalia.....It was ready to go the next day and Rob even offered to let me pick it up after 5pm (after business hours). My CPU had been shutting down sporadically for months and finally gave up turning on all-together. The team at Around-Town Computer Repair was able to diagnose it for only $25 (as opposed to Best Buy's "Geek Squad" that charges a minimum inspection fee of $65!) The total cost, which included a cleaning of the unit, was unbelievably reasonable. If I ever need any other future repairs or just upgrading my unit, I know exactly who to call. :) read more

I use my Mac book pro all the time, it started to slow way down with a constant spinning wheel. It is 5 years old and in good condition, they no long make it with an optical drive. I thought I should take it to the Apple store at first and decided to take it to Around-Town Computer Repair instead, I am very pleased to say they were able to fix my Mac and it has never run better! Definitely never going back. Took my laptop to try and get fixed. I waited about 2 weeks to get an actual phone call for them to let me know what was wrong with my lap top. They told me it would take about a week for the necessary parts they needed to come in. I called the following week to check in on the progress. They explained to me that the parts never came in and they would have to reorder them angin. Witch would add another week plus the actual repair job time. Either get better works or make sure you made an actual order. What upset me the most is when I went to pick up my lap top(not fixed) the works in the back we're just laying back in their chairs doing nothing just chattering away. Like really?
