This is probably my favorite place to meet friends or family for lunch in this part of town. It always feels like I am temporarily removed from the chaos and traffic of Austin. I love to invite my friends to remove their shoes and, sit on the floor, among the beautiful low tables and soft cushions and luxurious Turkish rugs. The scene: Tucked away restaurant with a lovely and cozy setting once you enter. They have a choice of sitting in traditional tables or floor seating. The restaurant is run by a family, where the same familiar faces are found every time we dine here. This has become our standard go-to place to dine, and the staff recognize us and even remember what we like to order. Good for: Their plates are hearty but delicious, I've often ordered and enjoyed the Soltani dish. Best for: Honestly, their pizza is what keeps bringing me back. It's so difficult to go here and not order their famous new york white pizza. Their dough is so delicious and perfectly cooked, and I'm a sucker for a good ricotta pizza. Good for veg heads and carnivore's. First of all when you walk in you see a very clean Mediterranean style restaurant. We went with the lunch special instead of ordering off of the menu. For $8 you can get an entire lunch platter ..that includes salad, bread and drink. Its a Greek combination plate w/ 3 veggie/meat choices (chicken, shawarma and gyro), Greek salad, multiple sides, sauces and fresh pita.. Everything is generous here; the portions and the attitude. The quiet and pleasant ambiance is of a dark red Arabian/Mid-Eastern scene suitable for a movie set. I even have visited them for dinner and it's pretty good. Have tried a lot of items from there menu and let me say it's great with good portion size. Had heard a lot about their pizza, but I felt it was just Ok (for $18) a bit expensive as well. I'm just a frequent out-of-town visitor, but Arpeggio middle eastern restaurant is the best kabob, by far, I've been able to find in Austin. I was SO relieved to find a place that does real Mediterranean flavors with fresh ingredients, delicious flavors, and real spices. So many places serve dishes that taste like they came straight from a Sysco freezer - these dishes are fragrant, tasty, and carefully prepared. Everything, from the meats, to the rice and flatbread, is prepared to order. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the ambiance, with a huge mural (Lebanon, maybe, with the Med in the distance) and lamps from the Casbah. Oh, and the baklava was delicious, too! read more

I'm so glad the Arpeggio is still here! The building still looks pretty run down but the parking lot was packed with cars. Surprisingly, there were only a few occupied tables in the restaurant. We got our drinks right away and we were set to order. I got the gyro plate, my husband ordered a gyro salad and we got a small pizza for our son. They do not have a children's menu. The food was fantastic! My gyro meat came with a beautiful salad and pita bread. Just really delicious. They accidentally made a medium pizza instead of a small for our boy (and only charged us for a small) -- leftovers for lunch tomorrow! The young gal who was serving spoke so quietly it was barely a whisper and she seemed so shy! It was truly impossible to hear her. My favorite pizza to order is the Meat Eaters (which has beef pepperoni, turkey bacon, gyro, sausage, and so much more- all halal). Also, their wings are extremely tasty and the perfect level of spice! If you're not into spicy that much, the mild is the really tame, the medium a little bit spicier! This place is truly terrific. After moving to Austin we've been committed to trying new places...went a couple weeks back and their food was only outdone by their cheerful customer service! The falafel was so perfect I couldn't stop eating it and was sad once the plate wqs. The hummus was light and flavorful. This place is seriously underrated in Austin! How have I not heard of this place before??! First I want to rave about my favorite feature about this place - the floor seating! I love it! There's a lovely rug on the rug with cushions and a low table and it just makes dinner a more intimate yet casual meal. The service was also amazing! The owner was super nice and was very attentive! Even though we sat on the ground, he and the other waiter frequently checked on us to see if we needed anything and even made very friendly conversation with us. I highly recommend the tea in a pot! It's unlimited and they do a great job of keeping it filled. My friends got this with some honey and lemon and it was delicious. The honey is natural and local which was a huge plus! My friends and I got the falafels, lamb shank, roasted chicken, and another plate with a variety of meats. The food was okay, but I think it is what ultimately held me back from a 5 star review. Popped in for lunch today. Everything was incredible and well priced. I thoroughly enjoyed the gyro lunch special with lentil rice, chickpea salad, and tabbouleh. The garlic bread was nice as well. My partner in lunching had the chicken shawarma, dolmas, roasted veg, and falafel. The dolmas. You guys. Yum. Even the lentil rice, which is usually a dollup of disappointment at any other establishment, was flavorful and harmonized well with all the other random things we ate en masse. Okay, so I should have updated my review long ago. Why is that? Because the food somehow gets better every time I eat here. The service on my first review was lackluster and has never been super great, but tonight's visit was quite different in that respect (very pleasant, thorough, and yay for my first time getting my water refilled!). This trip found me ordering the gyro combo. Somehow I've managed to never have eaten anything containing their gyro meat. BIG MISTAKE, ME. It was delicious. I get nervous about gyro meat due to having been burned by leather strips that may or may not have once upon a time been meat. The sad thing is that you just never know who to trust. I'm happy to say that Arpeggio Grill is officially in the gyro trust circle. It's tender, flavorful, and I kind of want to just sit down in front of a giant plate of it and go to town. Another surprise was the seasoned french fries. I wasn't expecting them to be anywhere near as good as they were. They were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and not greasy at all. I wasn't sure how fries would accompany a gyro, but it was pretty perfect. Somehow I've been completely blind to the fact that they also serve pizza, so next time I will definitely have to investigate that. You walk in and the place is wide open with a buffet on the left and a guy who is genuinely interested in explaining each option for you. They were all really sweet and service oriented. We are staying in Dell Children's while my son is receiving chemo, Greek sounded pretty good for dinner. Ordering food from here wasn't such a good idea. The pita bread that comes with hummus was so thin and tough. We felt like we were eating beef jerky. I didn't mind it being thin, but it was unpleasant to chew... I ordered a gyro salad with no onions and no bell peppers. Of course when I open my salad there were loads of bell peppers in it. I expected to see quite a few other topping along with my salad. I got two slices of tomatoes and 3.5 pieces of feta cheese. On top on that, the gyro meat was so dry. The salad dressing and tzatziki sauce tasted store-bought. AFTER doing a bit of research and AFTER visiting AG, I realized Arpeggio Grill refers to itself as a "Mediterranean Retreat." Yes, they have Greek food on the menu and the decor is well...not typical Greek (think blue and white, oceanic)...lovely, including a neat "sit on the floor with pillows area." But, the name is Italian, and the menu has one entire page that features their pizzas and a subsequent half page with wings. Also, all meats are halal which also means no alcoholic beverages and BYOB (if they allow?), in my opinion, would be tasteless. Wasn't necessarily in the mood for Greek fare (honestly, I didn't read any reviews prior to stopping in so I was confused to say the least) the evening I visited...I wanted wings and a pizza (I had glanced at their menu online). I respect all cultures and beliefs; however, when I think pizza or wings, I think beer. Hence, this is a review for TAKEOUT. Pizza: Since I was in a "Greek pizza joint," I decided to order the Greek pizza - feta, gyro, tomato, red onion, mushrooms, black and green olives, and "cheese(?)". Pizza had good medium thick crust, cooked just right with crispy edges. The toppings looked plentiful; however, with the exception of getting a nice little nugget of extra crispy gyro meat ever so often, I failed to experience the individual flavors of all of the other ingredients. I think everything was chopped too fine - which is usually great because you get a bit of everything with each bite - but in this case the flavors were drowned and the overall taste somehow ended up being bland. I definitely would have expected more of Feta tang and olive brine on a Greek pizza from a Mediterranean restaurant. A-OK. Wings: Kind of a bummer that they force you to order 25+ wings to be able to get two different flavors. Otherwise, you have to buy 5 for $5.99 in a separate order for each flavor. For a restaurant that offers so much "variety" you would think they would be a little more flexible with flavors (e.g., order 10, choose 2 flavors) - especially since they have a whopping 20 different flavors to choose from (places that specialize in nothing but wings don't even have that many)! The wings were on the smaller side and were not dressed as well as I am both accustomed to and like. That is, they were very lightly sauced. The 'hot" was good - no heat at all, but good flavor. The Lemon Pepper Garlic were spot on. Not the best wings ever, but A-OK. The service: Since I didn't dine-in, I only dealt with one person. Very nice. The food took about 35 minutes. Normally not a big deal as I would sit at the bar, order a beer, and Yelp away on my phone, but well...you know. Tad sloooow. Overall: I definitely want to go back to AG, sit on some pillows, and order up some Greek food. Based on other reviews that seems to be the way to go. After all, I'm the dodo who ordered wings and pizza from a "Mediterranean Retreat." Having admitted my ignorance, perhaps AG would be better off minimizing their menu and changing their name. When you find something you do really well, you should stick with and not attempt to be something you're not. Bigger isn't always better - even in the great state of Texas! read more

This Middle Eastern food joint is as good as it gets in Austin. I'm not one to over-exaggerate either. Look, I'm from Dearborn, MI. We have AMAZING Middle Eastern food there. This is as close to Dearborn as you can come. The tabbouli is the REAL DEAL. The hummus, delicious. The lunch special is awesome... 3 sides, a meat option, and drink for $8 or something like that. Just fantastic. The problem with this place is that it's really cold (I mean temperature-wise). The bathrooms are also pretty gross. The service is average too. Because their system isn't really all that organized, you gotta watch out that someone else doesn't snag your food (that's seriously happened). The gyro meat does leave a bit to be desired. If you're going to get meat, I suggest schwarma or kafta. Both are delicious. Getting the mixed kebab is pretty delicious too. I've yet to have their pizza... but there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to do that - you have to get their Mediterranean goods. They're just too good to pass up. read more
