I've eaten at Artemis Mediterranean Grill at the Hill Country Galleria several times, and it has quickly become one of my favorite spots in the area. My absolute favorite dish is the fried fish and chips--perfectly crispy on the outside and tender and flavorful on the inside. It's honestly one of the best versions I've had anywhere. On my most recent visit, I also tried the lettuce tacos, which seem to be really popular there right now. The moment I took my first bite I fell in love with the flavor. They were fresh, light, and packed with amazing taste. I ended up eating the whole thing right away because they were just that good. I also ordered the fried dill pickles, which are another personal favorite of mine. They were perfectly fried and full of flavor. One thing I've noticed every time I visit is that the restaurant is always busy, which says a lot. It's clear that many people love their Mediterranean menu, and after eating here multiple times, I completely understand why. I also enjoyed sitting outside at the Hill Country Galleria--it's a great atmosphere to relax and enjoy your meal. I highly recommend Artemis Mediterranean Grill if you're in the area. So my mom and daughter and I went for lunch. It was like dating...good on paper and let down in real life. Our server was great. Just to put that out there. Seemed like she was the only one working there. It was freezing. There was a couple I clocked at another table. Didn't think anything of it. We were so cold (asked our server if the temp could be adjusted and she said she'd ask) I went to my car and got my mom a jacket and my daughter and I shared a beach towel inside. On my way back in, the couple I'd seen were outside, and the guy saw what I was carrying and said, "we moved outside. It's an icebox in there!" It was 98 degrees outside. That was what they decided was better. Got a tomato and cucumber salad. Enormous pieces. Very bizarre. Like Game of Thrones for a giant pieces. Knife needed on every piece multiple times. Also the tomato was a colorless, flavorless cheap, giant basic tomato. No pretty grape tomatoes, or heirloom or anything. It was pricey. I brought it home to feed the deer. My daughter wanted fries and I was worried about how hot they'd be...no need! The place was so cold they chilled before we got them. And the space was nice; could do a nice happy hour there, except for the music. 80's rock. We ate in the freezing cold to "Final Countdown" and "Tom Sawyer". It was cold and a competition! Won't be back. Food was okay. Space was cold and ambiance was just stupid. If you want to spend 17 dollars on a plate, go elsewhere. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, and we finally went. The food was fresh. I ordered the shrimp pita, while my husband chose the lamb gyros, and we shared the dolmas. However, my shrimp pita only contained three shrimp. I opted for a Greek salad instead of fries. My husband said his dish was fine. Overall, the restaurant was much more crowded than I expected for a Thursday night in Bee Caves. The staff did their best to keep up with the demand. Although I saw two servers, the manager also helped out where he could. It took a while for us to be acknowledged and for our orders to be taken. However, the food came out quickly after we ordered. The place has a large patio area as well as indoor seating, plus a sizable bar with TVs. I felt the food was fresh and well-prepared. I do wish there had been more shrimp in my pita and that the price was lower. I paid $19 for a pita with just three shrimp, and there was an extra charge for the salad instead of fries. My significant other and I had lunch at Artemis for the first time a couple of days ago. We had wanted to have a nice lunch date, but time got away from us, so I took to Yelp to find a restaurant nearby so we could at least have a good meal, even if at a casual restaurant. When we arrived at Artemis, I was pleased to find that Artemis looked more upscale than it did in the pictures I saw. Again, we were hungry so we weren't expecting nice ambiance, only good food, but we got both! I ordered the salmon special, and it was amazing! It was light, creamy, and citrusy... and those mashed potatoes with feta and spinach, divine! My significant other got a bowl with ahi tuna and also really enjoyed it, to the point that he wanted to return to Artemis last night, which we did! Last night, we ordered a variety of things, and were pleased to discover that they have a small kids menu. Everything we had was again delicious, but what most stood out to me were the lentil soup and the seasoned fries. They were so flavorful! The service both times was great. Wanted to like this place since it is the only Mediterranean food in the area, but sadly have yet to have a dish that is good or has tasted authentically Greek. The dolmas were massive and covered in some sort of sweet lemon sauce which we really didn't like and ruined them for us. We unfortunately took one bite and couldn't eat them. I had the chicken souvlaki but the entire plate left a lot to be desired. My husband got the lamb gyro and said it was just okay. Unreliable Mediterranean food made by crossover cooks. But there are high points here. My meal had both picks and pans. * * * While I do not know this for sure, I think this is a Mexican/Central American chef crossing over into Mediterranean. When the food works it falls back on Mexican formulae. There is a LOT of Mexican crossover into other cuisines in the Greater Austin Area. Some of it is amazing. Chinese Dragon on Route 71 west of Bastrop has some of the most original and entertaining "Chinese" food in the city because the cook intentionally inserts Mexican elements into American Chinese standards. Ad no I do not mean adding jalapenos. If you want to know, you will have to go. Little Beijing in Elgin is Mexican owned and run American Chinese with recipes following orthodoxy closely. Execution is first rate. There are multiple Mexican and Central American Italian restaurants and mixed sandwich joints in the Austin metro most of which are wonderful. Artemis is not up to the standards of these other places. It does have its pleasures. The egg and lemon soup is not even remotely authentic. There is an art to fusing in the egg into an egg and lemon soup to make a thick creamy broth. The cooks here don't even try. They serve you a no-chiles Mexican chicken soup and with a small amount of egg drop and stick a big slice of lemon on top. Which should be awful but in fact is pretty good. It is a good honest chicken soup with a fine broth and a ton of really good shredded chicken meat. Imagine a fideo soup without the fideo and with vast amounts of chicken and you have this first rate bowl. I was happy to have it. * * * They serve a lot of mahi mahi at Artemis. Mexicans eat a lot of Mahi Mahi. Mediterraneans have access to wonderful Mediterranean fish and have no use for Pacific shark. Even though Mahi Mahi shows up on at least three menu items, their mahi mahi is not very good. I was given a tasteless messy Mahi Mahi sandwich with a Greek Salad on the side. More on that Greek Salad later. The fish is cut in high narrow rectangular rods and given a good browning on all four sides. The base fish is probably frozen and is basically flavorless. They put a lot of vegetables on top but no salt and no condiments with real flavor. I had to negotiate with the bartender to get some chili power to put on top to wake this dead sandwich up. Plus the fish being high and narrow with a lot of sloppy vegetables on and around it - the whole thing was an architectural mess. The sandwich fell apart multiple times and required constant repair. It was almost a fork and knife job. * * * The Greek Salad was weak with one surprising virtue. Most bad Greek Salads have normal pleasant salad ingredients with bad olives - often bad olives out of a can. At Artemis the olives are absolutely positively superb. They have a good source of high quality kalamata olives that are an absolute and utter delight. The rest of the salad was dull as hell. It was fresh - but flavorless. The dressing was flat and uninspired. My guess is that they did not use a good kalamata olive oil - which is a transformative element in a Greek salad. Spanish and Mexicans favor light olive oils. Those just don't cut it on a Greek salad. The feta cheese was American industrial feta cheese. Nearly tasteless and added none of the required Greek Salad kick. Some raw and combative onions would have been helpful too. Still I was happy to have those kalamata olives. A good Greek olive can make your whole day. * * * Not everything that is suboptimal at Artemis is entirely the staff or cook's fault. It is quite clear that these guys are being screwed by their landlord. Heavy rain broke out halfway through my meal. All of the the doors and all of the windows facing out leaked water on to the floor of the restaurant. The staff were mopping it up like crazy as if it were flood season. Texas gets heavy rain a lot of the time. NO RESTAURANT SHOULD HAVE DOORS OR WINDOWS THAT FLOOD WITH A NORMAL RAINSTORM. This is clearly and totally the responsibility of the landowners who own the facility. Technically the owner is the California State Teachers' Retirement system which owns the entire Hill Country Galleria. I have no doubt a professional management company runs the leasing and maintenance on their behalf. That management not changing out the doors and windows is disgraceful. I am sure CSTRS will say they know nothing about this. But if there is some contract providing incentives to managers to reduce overhead costs ... that could be the source of all evil on this unacceptable neglect. Changing doors and windows on a strip mall retail outlet is not cheap. And I am sure there are other tenants with similar problems. * * * That said, the problems in the kitchen are of management's own provenance. No law says they have to be authentic. Law does say they have to be good. read more

Maybe I ordered the wrong item but the beef kebob was nearly inedible. Super tough and chewy. Sad. Decor and ambiance are alright. Sunlit windows and high ceilings. First, I would like to commend Emilena, my waitress this evening. When I gave her my order, she told me it was her favorite dish, and whenever asked she recommends it. Emilena was delightful, and she truly shined as she took care of me. She is an asset to this restaurant. Now for my review, the dish I ordered, and Emilena concurred, was the lemon salmon served with spinach mashed potatoes and asparagus. To say it was delicious would be an understatement. The salmon was grilled to perfection, with just enough char to give it a little crunch, which I like. The sauce did not overwhelm with the lemon, just the right amount. The food was really fresh, and seasoned perfectly. I am so happy we have this delicious Mediterranean Restaurant option nearby. It is our third time here. It has become my favorite restaurant in the area. I come from big cities, and the quality of this foods establishment for a smaller area, is so consistent and made with love and care. We came here during Happy Hour and ordered the falafels, lamb gyro, & a chicken gyro. The service was friendly but they did send out the wrong appetizers, so for future reference the fried pickles looked good, but they belonged to someone else. I wasn't a fan of the falafels, they were not very flavorful compared to other falafels we have had. However the experience was redeemed by the best seasoned fries I have ever had! I normally just order them as a side and don't pay much attention but these fries were so good that I would order them by themselves. Both gyros were both very good and flavorful! This is one of my girlfriend's favorite monthly haunts. She always gets the house Salad with Gyros. I met her here once before and we sat at the bar. Great service! Great food! Today I met her here once again and we sat in the middle of the room. They have a large patio on the side as well as a pretty dining room with a small bar area. I ordered a lavender lemonade with half unsweetened tea which was OK. Not as lemony as expected. Next we tried the dolmas. They eere fresh had a sweet lemon sauce with crunchy raw red onion. The flavor was good but the grape leaves were a bit tough, unfortunately. Next she had a Gyros Plate and I had a Lamb Souvlake plate. Both were really good. Mine came with a garlic dip that was really good. The lamb is cooked to order and came out a perfect medium, as requested. We were starving on our road trip and googled Mediterranean near us. This place seemed promising with reviews and being close by. Walking in, we were greeted instantly. There was two tables already eating. Our waiter took a moment to actually get to us, we ordered. For the most part the service was good. I'd say 3.5/5. Our kids got the kids spaghetti and pita cheese pizza. We ordered the chicken and rice soup, fried cheese and falafels as an appetizer. The kids liked their dishes. The falafels were decent, a tad overcooked. They definitely tasted better with the sauce served with the gyro plate vs the tahini sauce it came with. They tasted burnt and not good with the tahini sauce. At first we thought it was hummus, but it wasn't. The cheese appetizer was good. But we've definitely had it better at other places. And for that price of $15 it wasn't worth it. My husband got the gyro plate and I the lamb kabobs. The gyro was the best thing we had. Great flavor. My lamb kabobs were cooked great just lacking flavor. The rice was not tasty in one bit. Whatever spices they added did not merry and there was no salt. I did enjoy the garlic sauce, but again it needed salt. For the price point at this restaurant and what you actually get, it's definitely overpriced. This was a new local spot for us & the meal we had tonight was delicious. Our server Audrey was very engaging, personable and helpful. Her confidence in the offerings speaks volumes about the quality. When a server believes in the food, it's always a very good sign. We sampled some falafel, spanakopita, and baba ganooj to start off the visit and all were excellent. The temps, seasoning, and textures were all on point. Delicious. We split a lamb kebab plate and it was cooked perfectly medium. We ate every morsel on the plate almost embarrassingly so. The Baklava was a must and it didn't disappoint. We got a second one to go: it was that good. We will be back for more soon. The environment is very casual with a nice bar and it seemed like everyone working there was pretty busy and happy. We tried Artemis for the first time in years. My wife's Power Bowl with falafel was very good! Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for my gnocchi. The gnocchi was clearly undercooked (doughy and floury). The chicken breast was pounded flat (about a quarter inch), and way overcooked. Dry and stringy. It was take out, so it was what it was. Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. We had no wait time as there were plenty of tables open both inside and outside. We started with the Spanokopita as an appetizer and I thought it was very tasty. The structural integrity made it a little challenging to share, but that comes with the territory for anything with phyllo. There was a LOT of feta, which made it a little salty even for me. This was my first time having it and I enjoyed it, but my impression was if you've had it elsewhere the saltiness might turn you off a bit. I've been feeling savory pies lately, so the Mousaka immediately jumped out to me on the menu. I thought the beef was super tasty and rich, the potatos on top were yummy and I loved the nutmeg flavor, but I could see that not being for everyone. The rice made a solid side. The tabbouleh felt like it would have been better served as an appetizer, between the heaviness of this dish and the Spanokopita that mostly went untouched. Overall I had a solid experience here. If you're going to the Hill Country Galleria or find yourself in Bee Cave in search of a place to eat, I think this is one of your better bets. However I don't think it's anything worth going out of your way for. read more

The parking lot in front of the building isn't large. The overflow parking on the side is awkward to get into the restaurant. I ordered a lamb gyro. It was seasoned well, very delicious. Love the ambiance / decor - simple and pleasing and perfect for not too casual but not too fancy of a night out! We had a great server who helped us with figuring out what to order. We got the Greek burger which was excellent, especially with the fries special sauce added as well. The lamb gyro was also delicious but I can't say I haven't had better. The fries were tasty with the seasoning, but definitely loved the dipping sauce. I love Mediterranean food so when my sister-in-law recommended eating here for dinner while visiting from Maine this week, I could not have been more excited. The restaurant is beautiful and the food tasted amazing. I tried the house-made dolmas, lamb gyro, and steak skewer (kids' meal.) All were incredible! The fries that came with the gyro were deliciously seasoned and my two-year-old's favorite however both my kids (other one four) devoured the steak as well. The special sauce that came with the gyros was one of my favorites however I have no idea what it even was-- still highly recommend! Service was great as my daughter spilled a whole seltzer water on the table shortly after it was delivered and they grabbed us rags and were very cool about it.
