My wife and I have never been able to take our dogs on vacation. We finally decided to look into…read moreplaces that offered "pet friendly" amenities for a quick weekend getaway, and figured that a vacation property likely offered us the best chance of finding a place for ourselves and our two dogs to enjoy. Now, when I say we have two dogs, it's a bit of an exaggeration; we have one dog and one bloodhound, who is more like a small horse than a dog in many aspects. So when hotels say they're "dog friendly", they often mean dogs under 50#. Our big guy is 110#, slings drool up onto walls, and scratches at doors while screaming at the top of his lungs when he really needs to go outside. Suffice it to say, he wouldn't be very welcome at most "pet friendly" establishments. If there is a more pet-friendly place to vacation than Autumn Dancer Llama Farm, I challenge you to find it. Our dogs have never been more relaxed than they are here. A large, fully fenced in 1/4 acre back yard runs down a slope from the cabin. There is no opportunity for the dogs to escape- they don't particularly seem to want to anyway! The wrap-around deck is also fenced in, and your dogs can be corralled on it if need be. Toys are provided for your pups as well! You can bring and board horses on 2.5 acres with a shelter. There are paths and country roads for you to explore. The cabin itself is quaint and rustic enough but is also modern in all the right ways. Wi-Fi and satellite TV are provided, there's a gas fireplace, full A/C and heating are also here. You can grill outside on the covered deck via a seemingly endless supply of propane provided by the owners. And there is a hot tub on the back porch with a gorgeous, serene view. The cabin is clean and well-maintained. Ed and Ginny have done a wonderful job of finding the balance between country charm and modern amenities. Lastly, Ed & Ginny are amazing. There are more than a few animals on the farm who are simply put out to pasture. It takes a certain type of personality to look after animals who technically do not contribute to a working farm- both Ed & Ginny are kind, sweet people who love animals. They also care about their renters- they offered to pick up groceries in advance, lead us in from a local town if it was too dark for us to feel safe, and tend to our dogs a few times if we wanted to go out by ourselves during the day. Additionally, while we were staying here, a large/violent storm ran through. Ed called us to make sure we were safe and sound and just give us a heads up that he was a stone's throw away. The owners are kind, sweet people, and I think that deserves mentioning. We are here right now (mid-May), and we love it so much that we're in the process of booking another 4-5 days in October! Disclaimer: This place is definitely in the country. GPS devices don't work too well, and there are some pretty "country" back roads that you can get sent down if you come in at night. Make sure you clear up directions with Ed & Ginny before you put all your weight in your Garmin. Personally, I used the Waze app on my iPhone and it actually got me right to the front door after some interesting directions in Newport were avoided. Also, next time I come, I'm bringing a power strip just for charging phones/computers.

When we booked this cabin we were told it was remote, we could bring up to 5 dogs of ANY size and…read morethey could stay out as late as we wanted them too. On our FIRST night, since we were celebrating my Great Danes 8th Birthday (Great Danes rarely lvev beyond 8 or 9 years of age) we thought they would be o.k. to stay out until 10 pm. The first night we got in around 8 or 8:30. We brought 3 dogs. at 9:39 pm I looked at my cell phone because there was a dog barking across the road. ONE of my 3 dogs was barking back. I thought we would bring them in at 10. A few minutes later we heard gunfire. My husband rushed to get our furbabies out of the yard. I go the the range frequently and I could detect the general direction the gunfire was coming from. Unfortunately, they have several newer houses out there and that makes rural not so rural. I called and left a message for the owner the next day. I had sat up most of the night worrying about it. She said a lot of people out there slept with their windows open this time of year and a lot go to bed around 8 pm. Well, our dogs have a lot of neighbor dogs in the city, and they can stay out until 9 pm. If she had told us that, we never would have booked. And, first day, of course they barked at horses, llamas and mules. The reviews all said everybodies dogs had. She did say we could leave the next day. I was all for it. My husband wanted the full 3 nights. That night I'm actually getting ready for bed at 7:35 pm, dogs were comin g in at 8 pm. At 7:35 PM, my husband rushed in dragging our dogs. A neighbor was standing outside, staring up and screaming to Shut Up at the top of his lungs over and over. The follwing morning we were up at 6 am, took out all trash, swept the kitchen floor and washed the dishes. Then we called the owner's husbsnd who had stated he would lead us to the main road. No answer. His SUV was there, he wasn't on the cart at the barns. Directions from 3 people later, we got to the main hwy. I called Ginny that night. I told her her husband had not met us....she didn't even give me a chance to ask (I thought he was forgetful) or if we had forgotten anything. She screamed into the phone. Why are you Calling me, I'm Done With You (My total of 2 calls?) and she hung up. At one time this cabin was more remote and I'm sure your dogs were welcome. But they are NOT now. They may not even be safe. I might add, older children who might make noise after 8 PM, they will tell you they are welcome. Please remember the gunfire. It only went off until the noise ceased. Not target practice. And the owners. If you have a problem, one she has your money, as she told me "I'm DONE with you!"

We happened to be there during the Arctic freeze that came through the area and they were nice enough to call a few days in advance to make sure we were prepared for a power outage, which was nice. We arrived on Thursday, and the cabin wasn't very clean. Nothing major but crumbs on the counter tops and chips under the couch. My kids were most excited about the pool and were in it most of the evening Thursday. Friday, the entire county started experiencing rolling black outs. No big deal. We were prepared and they didn't last long. Unfortunately the heat couldn't seem to get the cabin warmed back up. The entire place was so drafty and there are a lot of windows. The main floor heating unit also works to heat the basement. The issue was the basement never got back up over 56 degrees. We called and left a message but didn't get a call back so our kids ended up sleeping upstairs on the couches. The theater would have been nice but the projector kept tripping the breaker and the blu ray player wouldn't come on. After the power went out Friday, the pool never heated back up making it unusable. We loaded the dishwasher Sunday night for the first time since being there only to wake up Monday morning and the dishes looked like it never ran. Not sure if there was an issue with it or what. All of things were minor inconveniences and annoyances especially given we paid almost $8000 for 4 nights. I reached out to customer service just to let them know there was some issues with the cabin. Not to get a refund but I did expect at least an apology. What I received back was "thank you for letting us know"....that was it and even that took them over 24 hours to send. Seemed like they were much faster to respond before they get your money. We did have a great Christmas with our family and I would have given a higher rating if it wasn't for the email response I got.

There were several issues we had. One being the cleanliness of the place. Trash from April from other guests lying around. Dirty hair ties in the corner of one of the showers. Even one in the corner of the room. Dust and cobwebs everywhere. Rundown furniture. Grease on kitchen cabinets above stove. Furniture was worn down and very uncomfortable. And the Tv remotes didn't want to work. The one in the bedroom didn't work at all. And both the bedroom and living room remotes had batteries taped in them. The backs were gone. Bad customer service. We were so busy while we were there that we waited til the evening we checked out to email them. But because we had already checked out that day they refused to make the situation right. All they offered was to send the complaint to the housekeeping manager. Apparently this is a common problem with this company. Had I known this beforehand we would have NEVER booked through them. Please give another company your business.

We arrived on Monday and departed Friday to continue our vacation. We checked into a more "highly regarded" and more expensive B&B today. Already, we see many things at Bald Mountain House we do not find here. First, Monica is an amazing hostess, incredible chef (most amazing breakfasts ever!), and cares for her guests so well! It is the most peaceful and tranquil place we have ever stayed. The king Tempur-pedic in the Blue Ridge Suite was like being in our own bed at home, except the only sounds we heard was the flowing steam and singing birds. The cool mountain are allowed us to keep the windows open our entire stay, even when we turned on the AC for a cool sleep at night. The place smelled so fresh and was very clean (perfect 100 sanitation rating). There were always drinks stocked in the fridge and coffee and cookies available in the dining room. The tap water was soft and tasted as good as any bottled water. We enjoyed the many comfy chairs on the huge covered porch as we watched golden finches, hummingbirds, and other beautiful birds feast at the many feeders while we looked at the vast mountain range above the flower planter boxes. We were able to do some hiking on the infamous Appalachian Trail, including breathtaking views atop Big Bald mountain. Monica provided a lot of helpful information when we asked, especially regarding dinner ideas. While the owners were on site and available 24/7, we appreciated that unlike other places we have been they did not immerse themselves into their guests space! We hope to return again in the future!

Cabins of the Smoky Mountains - also known as Gatlinburg Falls Resort and other names…read more My group checked into the cabin referred to as Mountain Theatre Lodge which boast of the below: Spacious Accommodations: The lodge features five well-appointed bedrooms, including king and queen beds, along with additional sleeping options to comfortably host up to 14 guests. My Review: This boasts that you can comfortably sleep up to 14 guests in one area- 24 in another, slightly confusing but let's do the math -5 king beds sleep 10, 2 queen bunks sleep 8 total, & 3 sleeper sofas sleep 6, so that would be 24 -no idea why it contradicts itself - possibly to have a crutch to lean on with all the accommodations they don't actually offer. Let's talk about the 3 queen sofa beds, this is only true if you plan to bring your own pillows, blankets & sheets for the pullout couches as not only are none provided but they tell you they will bring some & finally bring them ON THE LAST DAY ... make that make sense. Overall, the house was clean but very damaged-except for the showers which looked like they had not been cleaned at all. Soap wrapper was actually left in one of them. As far as sleep, I hope you don't want to sleep past the sunrise on your vacation as there are NO BLINDS or CURTAINS in almost every room from the back side- bright & early the sun is in your face; no curtains at all on the front side of the house which doesn't help much with the temperature in the summer. Let's talk about washcloths/towels. AT A MINIMUM, we should have been left 24 (since that is what the house sleeps) AT A MINIMUM. We were left 12. Not even enough for everyone that it supposedly sleeps. We called &asked for more, as with everything else, it showed up ON THE LAST DAY. Private Home Theater: Enjoy movie nights in your own theater room, equipped with a large screen and comfortable seating for a cinematic experience. My Review: Comfortable Seating is pushing it but we can live with that, what you can't live with is not even being able to watch anything on the TV "theater" due to the fact that in our 4 nights there, we had internet access for POSSIBLY 6 hours total. We called, texted, & emailed regarding internet service, was told multiple times that a service call was entered-they would get someone out to the cabin. No one EVER came to attempt to fix this issue. Entertainment Options: The game room is equipped with a pool table, air hockey, and arcade games, ensuring entertainment for guests of all ages. My Review: Air Hockey table was unable to be used because the pusher was broken, I called, texted, & emailed about this within the first few hours of arrival, was told they would have a pusher out the next morning;the pusher was finally brought out on our last day. There are NO arcade games. Relaxation Amenities: Unwind in the private hot tub on the deck or relax in the cozy living area after a day of adventure My Review: the hot tub and living area are nice as suggested, however if you look at the photos and think, wow this porch with this swing & rocking chairs look so relaxing and I cannot wait for that .... well wait, there is no longer a swing and the 2 rocking chairs that are out there (so not as many as are shown online) are smaller than shown on the photos & very rickety. Modern Conveniences: The cabin includes a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, complimentary Wi-Fi, and multiple flat-screen TVs with cable/satellite channels. My Review: kitchen is fine, washer and dryer are fine, wifi is non-existent as mentioned above which makes it hard to classify this rental as a "theatre", there is NO CABLE or SATELLITE on ANY TV in the entire cabin. The only TV's that you could even watch while we were there were the two smart TV's that you could connect to your own personal Netflix or other account and that was only for the few hours that we had Wifi to do so. The TV's in the room were POINTLESS. Outdoor Features: Take advantage of the charcoal BBQ grill and deck seating for outdoor dining and relaxation. My Review: you will not see a photo of this grill online, but let me help you with that, it is the $19.99 rickety grill from Walmart that you can put like 4 burgers on at a time. PLEASE SEE PHOTO FOR THE LAST OF MY REVIEW AS HAVING NO WORKING AIR FOR OVER 24 HOURS WAS A FINAL ISSUE.

This was our first time staying in Anita's Cozy Mountain Cabins. While the views were absolutely…read morebreathtaking, we immediately noticed several issues with the cabin that dampened our experience. On our first night, we were in the hot tub when a bear walked up to the porch, which was both fascinating and a little nerve-wracking. We actually saw a bear almost every morning during our stay, and seeing the local wildlife was one of the highlights of our trip. However, the cabin itself had many problems. When we arrived with groceries, we discovered that the pantry was dirty and filled with loose rocks falling from the fireplace. We soon realized that this was where bats were entering the cabin, as we found them flying around the living room at night. This made it difficult to sleep, as we had to check the rooms every evening to ensure no bats were inside. Unfortunately, Anita seemed unconcerned when we mentioned these issues. The "Dancing Bear Cabin" also had numerous maintenance problems. Instead of repairing broken items, the owner left typed notes explaining how to use them despite the damage--for example, instructions for flushing a toilet with a broken handle or locking a door with a faulty knob. The water pressure was extremely poor, making it impossible for two people to shower at the same time. Also, the lighting in the bathrooms were terrible because the lighting fixtures are installed upside down. The beds were uncomfortably hard, and I had to purchase a mattress topper just to sleep, which Anita seemed to take issue with. The washing machine smelled like mold, and the dryer made loud clanking noises that made it impossible to run overnight. The pool table had holes in the pockets, causing balls to fall onto the floor. Overall, it felt like we were paying a premium price for a property where very little is reinvested in maintenance. The outdoor areas were also neglected. The windows were dirty, cobwebs covered the porch, and the patio furniture was so filthy that it left stains on our clothes. My husband always carries a large, unopened bag of dog food in our truck for feeding strays. On our way home, we had far more items to pack than we did when arriving, and we couldn't even close the truck bed cover with the dog food inside. Since the outdoor garbage bins were already full, we decided to empty the dog food at the end of the driveway, away from the house. We had no intention of attracting bears. We assumed that some wildlife might eat it, but it was simply a practical decision to free up space--not to lure animals onto the property. Later, I received a rude text message from Anita, and she even posted insulting comments about me on her Facebook, calling me "stupid" or "you can't fix stupid" over the dog food incident. This behavior was extremely unprofessional and left us with a very negative impression of the host. I had already left a decent review on of the cabin on VRBO because it is beautiful in spite of the flaws but dealing with the owner is a nightmare. Apparently others have had a similar experience with her. In short, the scenery is beautiful, but the cabin is poorly maintained, and the host's attitude is unwelcoming. For the price, we expected a far better experience.
