Let me start with the initial phone call. I called to ask about their prices for dry cleaning a few garments, and I was given what seemed like a reasonable quote. However, upon picking up my clothes, I was handed a bill that was nearly double the quoted price. When I asked about the discrepancy, the staff noted "additional services" that were never mentioned during the phone call or during drop off--which was a price quote still higher than the price provided during the phone call. What infuriates me the most is the lack of transparency. If there are additional charges, customers deserve to know about them upfront, not be blindsided at the checkout counter. read more

I usually don't write reviews but I am writing one now 1. because I am so pissed off and 2. to prevent others from having a bad experience like me. I brought in my wife's blazer for a dry clean not too long ago. She needed it for an important presentation and the gentleman (I think the owner) said it will be done by the time we needed it. Indeed, the blazer was ready by the promised date and I picked it up. When we checked the blazer at home it had black smudges in multiple places that were not there before. My wife had to go out and buy another blazer last minute prior to her flight that day. I brought the blazer back in and the gentleman said he will send it back to the plant. A few days later, I got a call saying that it was ready. I went to pick it up. This time, I took off the plastic bag and checked the blazer while in store. It STILL had some of the black smudges as well as new large areas of light but very visible black stain, almost like a water mark. I showed them to him and although he initially tried to say he didn't see it, which turned into "it was probably there before", but he eventually agreed that they were there. These new stains were ABSOLUTELY NOT THERE before. He said he will send it back to the dry cleaning plant again. He was very nice so I said OK and came home. I went back to pick it up a few days later only to find that the stains were STILL THERE!!!. I usually have a really good amount of patience when it comes to things like this. However, this was so frustrating. Why would you not check the clothing for stains before calling the customer if it has been going back to the plant to be re-washed three times? I told the gentelman at that point that I need money for the dry cleaning cost as well as for the blazer because the clothing appears to be ruined now. He said he will talk to the plant and come up with a solution. Fast forward to today, about 30 minutes ago, I called the shop. A lady picked up this time and told me the blazer was ready yet again... I was doubtful but went into take a look. This time, the stains did appear to be gone. However, the blazer was pretty much ruined. They must have been so aggressive with the cleaning to get the stains out (stains that they caused) that the fabric appears to be permanently wrinkled and the seams are coming apart. The gentleman that I have been talking to was not there today. The lady who picked up the phone earlier who apparently is a tailor there was EXTREMELY rude. She was basically yelling that there was nothing wrong with the blazer despite me showing the areas that are clearly damaged. She in a very accusatory manner asked if I am saying this because I want money from them as if I am trying to scam them. She went on to say that she is just a tailor and the owner won't be back until 9/15 (today is 6/29) that there was nothing that she can do. She said she will contact the dry cleaning plant to call me and that I have to talk to them directly despite I am using their service. I was very patient throughout this whole episode as the gentleman tried to fix the issue and sending the blazer in multiple times to remove the stain. I am obviously not thrilled with the experience of going back and forth to find the issue not resolved. However, this lady's behavior is absolutely unacceptable. I not only will never return to this cleaner but will not stop until I get reimbursed the dry cleaning cost and the cost of the blazer. read more

I brought a pair of jeans in for a 3 inch hem alteration. (Basically a test run)The man quoted $20 and ready in 10 days. The hem looked as good as the original, cost $20, and when I dropped by 7 days later, they were ready. The only reason for the missing 5th star is that I thought a ten date wait was a bit long. I will definitely use again. They were reliable, excellent quality and pricing is standard. I was very happy with them. read more

I took an older coat of mine here to have the zipper replaced, since it was still in mostly good shape but the zipper had broken. I was quoted $37 for the same kind of zipper (a silver zipper) (if they could find it, the man at the counter said), or "less" if it needed to be a plain black plastic zipper. I said go ahead for the more expensive one so it would match the rest of the coat, and I paid a $20 deposit. When the coat was ready to pick up, I was quoted $40 (additionally, so $60 total), and the coat had a black plastic zipper on it, not the silver one I requested. I reminded him that he had quoted me "less" than $37 for a black zipper, so he somewhat begrudgingly accepted only an additional $20 from me (so $40 total). After wearing it once, the zipper broke. So I'm down $40 and have an uglier, but still unzippable, coat. read more

Am I the only one to have anything positive to say abt Arrow? Sadness. I dropped off 3 pairs of my favorite heels here instead of my usual place, Felix, on the recommendation of a friend who said Arrow was cheaper. The work was pretty straightforward (i.e. fix the heels, clean up a bit), so I figured I would take a chance. The lady who rang me up couldn't have been nicer - she must have said "have a good day" 3 or 4 times, but in a nice way. My shoes turned out fine, and my wallet was happy as the price was, indeed, much more reasonable than Felix. I hope someone gives them a try for shoes! read more

What a dumbass I am. Why didn't I read the reviews first? For the love of god don't go here. The woman behind the counter is cah-raaazy. So, I went two weeks ago and brought some pants to be hemmed, because the awesome guy who used to do my $10 pants hemming went out of business. I was greeted by a very sweet young woman who did the measuring and sent me on my way. A week later I pick up my pants, pay the $14.50...ok great. That's about what I was expecting to pay, the pants are even and so I thought I had my new tailor. The woman behind the counter this time was an obstreperous woman who made me wait while she finished her conversation with her friend, but I thought...hey, whatever. She adds a little character. The next day I wore my newly tailored jeans and liking the outcome and price, brought a second pair in to be hemmed. The same unpleasant woman was behind the counter, she took my measurements and again, they need an entire week to do the job. Warning lights are starting to go off now in my head--why does it take a week to hem some friggin' jeans? But OK, maybe that means they are popular which is a good sign. Right? Maybe? I go to pick up my pants today and they cost $16. When I questioned the woman, saying I paid $14.50 last time, we had the following insane dialogue: "Oh, that must have been ages ago." "No, it was last week. It was actually these pants. [I lift a leg and gesture to the hem.]" "Well, it must have been with someone else." "No, it was with you. I wrote a check to you [they don't take cash] for $14.50. Why is it more today? How much should I regularly expect to pay for hemming?" "Well, it's normally $15 but because these are wide leg jeans, it's $16." Bullshit. First of all, they aren't wide leg jeans. Second of all...even if they were....................no. I used to hem my own jeans in highschool and I know exactly how long it takes (two minutes, in case you're wondering). Even if they *were* wide leg, that's no reason for it to cost more. But whatever, I don't care about the $1.50 so I let the cheap cretin keep it. However I will NEVER go back there again. Simply terrible customer service. Dropped a pair of shoes off on a Monday to replace the heel, stressed that I needed it by Thursday. On Thursday, shoes were not available, despite not getting a call to warn me. They then claim they will give me a call when they are available, but never do. It's been almost 3 weeks since I brought my boots in to get the zipper repaired, and I really wish I'd read these reviews beforehand. I called to check on the status of the boots the other day and the woman told me she would check into it and call me back. Well, I guess what she meant was that she wasn't going to call me back. I must have missed that part. Called again today. She had me call the cobbler (isn't this something SHE should be doing? I would have brought the boots directly to the cobbler if I knew I could). The cobbler was much more pleasant than anyone at Arrow Dry Cleaners, but I still don't have my boots and I'm wondering if they'll bother to call me when they are finally done. The sign for Arrow Dry Cleaners says that they also do Tailoring and Shoe Repair, so it seemed like a good place to try to get the zipper on my winter coat fixed. The attendant was on the phone when I walked in and she stayed on the phone throughout the course of our conversation, without ever apologizing to me or excusing herself from the conversation. She said they'd have to order a replacement zipper and that I'd have to leave my coat for 7-10 days (including the time that the zipper was on order). Her price quote of $35-$40 to replace the zipper was about what I expected, but I didn't want to go 10 days without a winter coat. When I asked her if the problem might be solved simply by replacing the zipper pull (which has been my experience in the past) she said 'no.' I then walked across the street to Cambridge Instant Shoe Repair (their business card lists the business name as 'Cambridge Shoe Repair and Pedorthics') with the same query. I asked if the zipper could be fixed and how much it'd cost. The attendant took my coat and went to the back of the shop. I waited about 5 minutes and he came back and offered my coat for me to test. The zipper was working! I asked how much he wanted for the repair, and he said, don't worry about it, I just switched the zipper pull (there were two pulls on the coat--it was a double zipper, and he switched the top and bottom pulls). I was THRILLED. Not only did he fix it (Instantly, as the name implies!) without charging me, but I didn't have to spend a week of winter weather without my coat. Even though they didn't charge for the zipper, I bought some suede cleaner and a suede brush to thank them for their good business. read more

Needed to get the heels of my shoes fixed and they promised to get it done before i was off for a business trip - This is what happened: They promised to call as soon as the shoes were fixed, but they did not. So i called them almost everyday to check on the status - sometimes the man on the other line wouldnt even find the ticket number and couldnt give me a status, then he would promise to call back the next day before noon, but of course he never did. We played this game for 4 days until i was off for my trip - of course without my shoes. In the end it took them twice as long as promised to get my shoes fixed. Dont go there if you need things to be done in time, you cant rely on their time estimates and you wont even get an apology. read more

Buyer beware, it's amateur hour at Arrow Dry Cleaners. As with most/all customers of Arrow I work near the building (Kendall Square), which means I'm a de facto patron. I'd estimate that they screw up one out of six items (mostly dress shirts from me); a bent collar, a wavy/twisted pleat, a burn mark, a broken button, etc. Forget about getting perspiration/stains out of a collar. Never bet on rush/next day service, though they are honest about not guaranteeing next day service. They often "misplace" your order for a few hours/one day, probably due to a very poor record/ticket system. The upside is the two guys who own/run the place are nice/mean well, and they will generally clean your clothes a 2nd time if needed/asked. If they got some competition maybe they would pay more attention to the quality of their work. The hemming/tailoring is sub par, but cheap. The shoe repair/cleaning is pretty good, with the shoe guy providing the best customer service in the store. No credit cards, cash only! In summary only bring the bare necessities here (not your favorite item), and be prepared for some mistakes/delays. read more

Ouch guys. I'm not here to complain like an over-annoyed botch because quite frankly, I thought my pants were hemmed just fine. And it cost me $12 a pair. Sure, they weren't done when they said they'd be done and they only take cash/check (however, they did take my debit card), but it's in a convenient spot if you're working in the neighborhood and definitely appear to be busy all the time. Anyway, a little bit of helpful info for you concerned citizens. Arrows offers three services: tailoring, shoe repair, and dry cleaning. I had a really bad experience here, but thankfully there wasn't much lasting harm. I work nearby, so I thought it would be convenient to get a pair of jeans hemmed. It wasn't too expensive, but cash only, which is always an annoyance... Anyway, I brought in my jeans and the woman didn't even ask me how much I wanted hemmed, just grabbed them and stuck a pin in. I came back a week later, and they still weren't done - they said they needed another day. So I came back again, and it took at least 20 minutes for them to find my jeans. This should NOT be so hard. When I finally got them back, they had hemmed the jeans I wanted to keep at heel-length to flat length... disaster. Thankfully they did a cheap job hemming, all they did was turn up the inside and sew, no cutting involved.... normally that would be awful, but in this case it saved my jeans. I was able to take my pants down to Jordan the Tailor on Newbury and he undid the hem and fixed it. All in all, this was a disaster and I'm never going back, I don't care how convenient it is. read more

No, I'm not on yelp to complain about this and that, but if it needs to be said, it needs to be said. Brought in a silk Cache dress (read: $300+) to be dry cleaned, and got it back with strange little holes and quarter sized bleach marks on the sash. Showed it to the guy working there, and he starts yelling at me "That's not us! What did you do to the dress? You must have gotten it dirty beyond repair!" After I calmly tell him "No.. I'm PRETTY sure I didn't have a bleached sash when I brought this in" he accuses me of not caring about the dress enough to have noticed it. I asked to speak to the manager about getting some kind of refund, and after a long glaring look he jots down a number and says, "Fine, call him, but he's very busy." Big surprise: the "manager" brushed me off quickly too. The only mistake I made was going to a dry cleaner before reading the reviews on yelp. read more

This is the worst dry cleaners with the worst customer service. They are never, I repeat never, open at 7:30 like their hours state. If you plan to pick up your dry cleaning early, plan again. The quality of the cleaning is bad. There has been multiple times where clothing stains have not come out. Lastly, they had me spend 1 hr in the store trying on a dress, with the understanding that they would complete the hem on the weekend. This place is terrible.DO NOT bring your clothes here. I was in Cambridge for a couple of days in July for a conference. I had some blouses I needed dry-cleaned so I dropped them off at Arrow dry-cleaning on a Wednesday. I asked them when I could pick up my clothes before handing them over, since I needed them back before I flew out to another conference on Saturday. The worker (or possibly the owner) told me I could pick up my blouses on Friday before the shop closed. I told him I couldn't make it then, so he told me to come in on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. I said OK and handed over my blouses. On Saturday I went to Arrow at 11 am on my way to the airport to pick up my blouses. THE STORE WAS CLOSED. And they were apparently closed the entire day. The guy had specifically told me to come back on Saturday anytime between 10 am until 2 pm. I suspect he lied to me in order to get my business. I had to catch my flight, so in the end I had to have my friend pick up my blouses the following week and mail them to me (well, to my home in New York even though I was flying overseas during that period). Moreover, I called them to complain, and to tell them my friend would pick up my stuff. I gave them her name multiple times, but it seems that they didn't write it down. Finally when she picked it up they gave her a really hard time and almost wouldn't give her the clothes, despite the fact that I had given her the ticket number and given them her name and phone number. read more

Despite the overall negative reviews here I still wanted to try this place because it is around the corner from my house. I WANTED this place to be great, even just good.... but no. I needed the zipper on my winter coat fixed (the entire thing broke) and I figuerd I'd be paying around $25-$40 but wanted to shop around to find the best price. I came here first and he told me $30 so I figured that was good enough and left. Well, when I came back to pick it up the guy says $39. I told him he quoted me $30 and he started arguing with me about how I heard him wrong and blah blah blah. So much for customer service. Since I wasn't in the mood to push it I just said okay whatever, and then he tells me "okay find i'll just charge you $38." Oh thanks, buddy! Because without that dollar I just wouldn't be able to live. I'm not cheap, I just like to pay what I'm told. If I was originally quoted $39 i may have gone elsewhere or I may have just said okay- but don't quote me $30 and then charge me $39. Incredibly human and kind--and also great quality. I showed up with armloads of dry cleaning, a stained item, and a piece to be altered. They got it all done overnight. Everything was exactly as requested. Even the oil stain (previously washed) was totally gone. The next day, I was getting compliments on a shirt I had nearly forsaken. Maybe I'm an outlier but I have had nothing but good service from the Arrow cleaners in Harvard Square (I cannot vouch for the other locations however). Last year I had a dress steamed as a rush it was perfect and on time. I've had multiple items dry cleaned over this past year and have had no complaints. This past week they fixed a moth hole in the front of one of my husband's favorite wool sweaters. I looked very hard and could not tell where they had made the repair. So, so far I am very, very pleased with their sweater fixing skills. They are currently fixing the sleeve lining of a suit jacket, it's taken longer than expected but I am not in a rush. Will update on tailoring quality when I get the jacket back. English is not the first language of the owners, so maybe that accounts for some of the perceived customer service issues. As with any place if you need it fast, get it in writing when you'll pick it up and call first to make sure it's ready. read more

I sent my two winter coats to Arrow at the beginning of this summer and I received two brand-look-coats! The reason I give Arrow a five star is based on another excellent service. So, Recently one of my shorts was broken at its back side for some reason. At first I was upset and wanted to throw it out because the tear was unbelievable big, but at last I sent it to arrow. After several days I picked it back. The huge tear was fixed perfectly! No one can tell the mended traces from its surface! Also very sweet and friendly service, and location! I kinda hard to understand why someone complains the waiting time. If you wish your coats or shoes or anything to be well treated and last a long time, it for sure takes you some time. read more

I wore this fancy white top of mine that can only be dry-cleaned and someone spilled their red wine all over it. The stain was huge and I barely made an attempt at cleaning it because it looked hopeless. However, I brought it to Mike at Arrow Drycleaners (my usual dry clean place which has always been great) thinking perhaps they might be able to do something. Mike looked at it and said they'd try their best. I came back a week later and the stain was COMPLETELY GONE. All of it. It looked like nothing had happened. Bad People. These guys ruined a dress (big chemical burn splotch), and when I complained, they said sure, no problem, they can help me, I just have to talk to "Mike". And funny, Mike is always available on the phone and says "no problem, just come on in and we'll take care of it", but when you get there, "Oh, Mike just left." They had me running back and forth between their two branches trying to find this mysterious creature. Funny this even happened when I called from right outside of the store, talked to "Mike", then walked in the door, and the man there says Mike's not there. When I finally confronted him and said that's funny, I just talked to him 30 seconds ago, they gave me the compensation that the receipt claimed I was entitled to (10 times the cost of the cleaning, in this case $80). read more

They are unreliable, my clothes were late and they promised me they would be done the next morning before I left on my trip, I come the next morning 30 minutes after they are supposed to be open and no one is there. I have given Arrow 4 or 5 chances now to prove themselves, but every time I am disappointed. Among other things, here are my main complaints: - Standard time is 1 week for dry cleaning, and you have to beg for them to do anything less - Only take cash and checks. Seriously, who carries around their checkbook?? - Very expensive. I know all dry cleaners are expensive, but here I am shocked at how much I pay. For example, today I picked up a scarf, dress, and dress shirt and it was $26.50! - Inconvenient. My clothes were supposed to be ready today, but only 3 items were so I have to go back to get the 4th item. They made some excuse about drycleaning darks with lights, but I DON'T CARE, you said it would be ready today. - Rude staff. The man who works there argued with me when I asked him why my clothes weren't ready! I am taking my business elsewhere, that is for sure. I suggest you do the same. read more

I think it's really unfortunate that I'm spending my day off writing a negative review on Yelp, but I just have to warn others about this place. Like others have said, it is expensive but you do get a free dose of rudeness and condescension with your order. I was upset when I brought in a suit for tailoring and they did a mediocre to poor job while charging me a rediculous price, but that was nothing compared to how I feel after they completely ruined a pair of pants and took no responsibility for the damage. The pants had a little salt stain on them from walking around in the snow. The first attempt to clean the stain was completely unsuccessful and it did not even look like they had made an attempt. When I inspected the pants I also noticed that the material on the back was discolored and that a mysterious white film had formed in the creases of the pants. After another attempt, they did get the salt stain out but the rest of the pants looked horrible. The gentleman behind the counter blamed the discoloration and white film on the wear&tear of sitting. After a minute of debate he insisted that I must have brought the pants in that way. It is really embarassing how companies today still fail to take responsibility for their work. Arrow knows that we have very little recourse for terrible quality service and they seem to embrace exploiting our vulnerability. read more

BOO!!! HISS!!! Oh, how I wish I had looked this place up on Yelp before I dropped off precious pieces of my wardrobe here. I moved to the Boston area during the last week of December 2008, and being that this dry cleaners is the closest in proximity to my building, I decided it would become "my" cleaners. To quote Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman .... "Big mistake. Huge." In early January, I took in seven garments to be cleaned, five to be tailored and cleaned, and a pair of heels that needed freshening up. I was told everything would be ready one week later. I went in a week later with my receipt and the girl took, oh, about 25 minutes trying to locate my things. I was fairly patient for the first ten minutes, but when she became noticeably frantic and then ASKED ME(!!!!!!!!!!!!) to come back behind the counter and help her look for my things, I started making a scene. I couldn't believe it. I was completely dumbfounded. As I walked up and down the aisles of random people's clothes covered in plastic, I began calculating the cost of the clothes that I would probably never see again and figured I was about to be out $1500. I can't lie - my eyes started welling up with tears. I couldn't find my clothes and I demanded that the girl call the owner, who was the one I had dropped off my things with. She said he was upstairs and ran to get him. He came down and found my things in five minutes (apparently they had gone out to his other location and come back that morning and was still in the "to be sorted" pile. Ummm. It was 2 in the afternoon. Maybe that should get done earlier in the day?!?!?) -- except I was told one of the pairs of jeans I needed tailored were not ready. After I told him that this was my first time using his establishment, he said he "didn't want to lose me as a customer" and that he would have the tailor finish the jeans in one hour and there would be no charge. When I came back an hour later, the jeans were ready and admittedly, were well tailored. But, I was also presented with MORE clothes that they had found of mine after I had left the first time. When I went to pay is when I found out it was CASH ONLY, which always makes me uber suspicious of businesses. I mean, geez louise, its 2009... pay the merchant fees and get over it. I ran to the B of A next door to get cash, paid 80 freaking dollars, and left. When I got home, I discovered two of my sweaters still had the holes in them that I had taken them in for to get repaired and a skirt still had a tear in it. At that point, though, I didn't want to ever leave anything I owned there again... so, alas, the holes/tear are still there, three months later. PS The shoes looked just ok... When I started using Yelp for everything Boston shortly thereafter, I looked up Arrow Dry Cleaners and found that I only had myself to blame for not checking earlier and that you all had told me so. Ugh so disappointed in the lack of professionalism and pricing. Can't recommend it. Bums me out as I work close by and would have liked to make this my go to place. Oh well. Some businesses can turn away business I guess and that's their right. read more
