My mom had what was supposed to be an outpatient surgery, to make her life better, they ended up keeping her overnight for observation. Three days later she was back with more issues, they kept her overnight in the ER to monitor her. Two weeks later back again, this time they kept her for a week. They found internal bleeding in her esophagus causing her hemoglobin to drop, I wonder if this happened when they intubated her if they went into the esophagus vs trachea and are covering their butts. The timing is too coincidental. My mom is 85 and they would not let her eat for THREE days due to the tests, the nursing staff was slow as molasses, she would have to wait 45 minutes to an hour just to get a nurse to go to the bathroom but when I would walk out to the nurses station they were all on their phones or talking. The night before her final test the prep was making her sick, the doctor on rotation that night said he would get her some antinausea medicine, it never happened!! This used to be a great hospital. If we have to go back to the hospital again, we will not be going here. read more

Avoid this place!! Got admitted because of a kidney stone blockage. Abrazo ER that sent me there had everything laid out, but when the ambulance arrived it was a different story. Third floor nurses were confused and nobody knew anything. Got into the room and it was FOUR hours later a nurse finally showed up to complete my admission!!! That's because it was the end of her shift. Nobody knew anything what was supposed to happen if I was getting surgery that night or in the morning. Trying to summon a nurse took 45 minutes. Absolutely zero work ethic or sense of urgency. When she finally showed up she still didn't have answers nor could figure out if the no food order could be lifted because of the time of evening. Finally, one doctor saw that it was total BS and lifted the order. The following morning a clueless nurse from urology paid me a visit. Totally unprofessional and unprepared. I explained everything that happened the night before and wanted answers about the surgery. She was clueless but stated she will return in 20 minutes. Well...that didn't happen. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At this point I'm on the phone trying to reach a Patient Representative from Admin....of course nobody picks up the phone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Four hours later two CNAs with thick Russian accents came in and said they were to take me downstairs for surgery prep. WTF??? I immediately called my wife told her the situation and she was enroute and was trying to call Patient Representatives also. I came out of surgery needing pain meds. It took a nurse an hour to come to my room. The nurses station was less than 40 feet from my room. Once she arrived with the meds, I had to fight for them to remove another food restriction so I could eat. Once the food arrived I summoned for the nurse to come give me my discharge paperwork. I was fed up by that point. I had already had my prescription orders. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Now I'm struggling to get the damn urology nurse to schedule my follow up appointments because it seems she is never in her damn office.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can only give a ONE STAR review because it won't let me opt for a NO STAR review. This was my third visit to the emergency room for Gall Bladder issues. All three times I was treated professionally and humanely as someone in distress and the nursing staff couldn't have been better with a few of the staff even checking back on me after I had moved to to the next "stage" of treatment. This last visit ended with a surgical removal. My experience, and yes this was my first surgery, exceeded my expectations based upon what I had read and heard. Happily, I can report that my experience was exemplary. All staff were simply amazing The nurses treated not only me, but my husband and mother with complete transparency and humanity. They were supportive when needed, yet firm and honest when necessity required. The various doctors mostly had a great bedside manner unlike what I've seen at other hospitals. My surgeon, from what I can tell did an amazing job... too bad she didn't remove some of the excess fat around my belly. LOL read more

On my way to Abrazo for pre-op visit, I experienced severe chest pain. Entered the Emergency Room, gave my drivers license and was told to sit down. I was definitely expecting an urgent response but sat for 10 min. A nurse came, gave me an EKG and left. Then she moved me to a different room with 2 chairs. Got chills and shaking so asked for a blanket. 20 minutes later a doctor comes and tells me labs are needed. Then he leaves. Nothing. My grandma had the unfortunate experience of having to stay at this hospital because she sadly broke her hip. She was in so much pain and instead of caring considerate nurses she was met with rude sassy nurses who acted like this wasn't there job. The hospital is so understaffed and we were told multiple people had quit recently. In the ER we had a nice nurse named Gino who was sweet. That was one more sweet nurse but I can't remember her name. Everyone else in the ER sucked. The hospital screwed up and double booked her surgeon and my grandma was left with a broken hip for 2.5 days!! Seeing her so weak broke my heart. We had no time to feel emotions in this place because we had to stay focused on making sure the doctors weren't giving her the wrong medication which they did MULTIPLE TIMES. There's so much more I could say about why you shouldn't come here but other 1 star reviews might help showing why this place is the last place you should go if your looking for a happy comforting stay DONT COME HERE‼ read more

I'm so tired of Covid being used as an excuse for poor and incompetent practices. If Covid is to blame for the nursing shortages, this hospital should have never required the Covid vaccine. We had a horrible experience and will never return to this hospital. There was a total lack of everything at this ER including but not limited to nurses, doctors, customer service, communication, cleanliness, empathy, priority, skills, and the list goes on. The ER doctors are terrible. They rush to send you home without ordering tests that are necessary to diagnose. I wish I could like this emergency room but it is terrible. I fractured my wrist last night and spent 4 hours at the hospital waiting seen a doctor. It was late at night so my pharmacy was not open to pick up pain meds. In the morning I went to get the pain meds and found out they sent to to a pharmacy I don't even use and a long way from my home. They would not call it into my pharmacy. I will never go there again. Oh and on top of that there was a women in the waiting room talking on here phone loudly for over 2 hours and the rest of had to listen to her conversation. I wanted to pull my hair out. read more

The worse experience I have ever had in a hospital as a patient. The nursing staff was very unprofessional. The rooms were filthy. I would ring the nurse buzzer and it would be a hour or so for anyone to respond. I was bleeding out and the nurse told me I was over exaggerating, as I lay in a pool of blood streaming from my back. I went into Arrowhead Hospital with severe chest pains. I have a pacemaker/defibrillator and a 4.1 cm ascending aortic aneurysm. Because I did NOT have COVID, I was treated as totally unimportant. Despite how serious my symptoms were and still are, I was denied one of the three empty beds being held for potential COVID patients. After several hours of being expected to sit in a waiting room type chair AND their total lack of caring, I walked out. I am still having severe chest pains, but I expect my cardiologist will provide better care during an office visit tomorrow. If he thinks I need to be in a hospital, he can check me in to any other hospital. Was the hospital at all concerned? They did call and leave a voice mail that I left my ID. read more

Hi Ms. Webber, I understand you have been speaking with the above-referenced former patient of Arrowhead hospital who was initially brought in for renal failure approximately the last week of March, 2019. He was living with me for several days prior to going to the hospital, as he had to move out of the rental house he had been living in at Sun City due to the fact that it was discovered there was black mold in the home. I made mention of the fact that he had been exposed to black mold to hospital personnel as did the paramedics when he was brought in to emergency but was never questioned further about it. I know he was given one round of dialysis, while in the hospital and there was a problem with his right-hand when he was released from the hospital. He did have at least one surgery on his hand to correct the nerve problem that we think was a result of the vein puncture for medication which was administered to him, and he still has very little use of the hand at this point. I also remember that about the day after he left the hospital, I discovered he had an open wound on the back of his head, which his primary care physician also saw upon examination. He also developed pneumonia shortly after his release from the hospital. In short, he has had more than a few problems in the past two years, and I don't believe either one of us was kept in the loop as far as his health concerns were presented at Arrowhead. He has mentioned to me that there were heart tests done but to his knowledge he doesn't have underlying heart issues. I believe you are currently not at the hospital, but I'm writing this in hopes that it will reach you. I know that Philip has been told that there is a 2-year limitation on any medical issues which he may have had with the hospital, and that is coming up very quickly. Could you please get in touch with either him or myself or speak to someone who is an alternate hospital advocate, as this is very concerning, both to him as well as myself? read more

i had a traumatic experience at this hospital. i have PCOS and i don't physically fit the stereotype of what a woman with PCOS typically looks like. i came into this hospital in a wheelchair doubled over, crying, trying my best to not scream, and i told them exactly what was wrong with me. as a 16 year old my doctor prescribed me tramadol, a pretty potent opiate, that i'm supposed to take the moment i know i'm starting my time of the month because my irregularity would cause an excess of the uterine lining that we're supposed to shed every month which would cause such excruciating pain that i was having not normal cramps but *labor scale contractions* according to my OBGYN. i didn't take the tramadol quick enough because i started my period while i was asleep, the pain is what woke me up. in this state, in my wheelchair in the room they stuck me in, a nurse comes in and explains that she's seen "hundreds" of women with PCOS, and this is a direct quote, "I can tell just by looking at you that you don't have it because you're too skinny and you don't have facial hair." i was still a teenager. they wouldn't give me any pain medication until i gave them a urine sample. my body was in shock and i could not go to the bathroom no matter how long i sat there. they wouldn't give me WATER until i gave them a sample. i asked how i could give them a sample without water and they shrugged and left me in that room. hours pass, no pain medicine no water, they have a medical student come in and PRACTICE her very first ultrasound ever on me. i also asked them how they would do an ultrasound without giving me water- i've been through this before i've had plenty of ultrasounds because of my PCOS. they said "Well you're so skinny we might be able to see anyway." the whole time the doctor is standing behind her saying "You're not pressing down hard enough. You're not pressing hard enough you have to press down harder," as he is physically putting his hand over hers and pressing down harder to show her the correct amount of pressure for the device. they wrap up and say my ultrasound is normal and they leave me alone with no medication for more hours. they eventually gave me water intravenously and as i was laying there my arm started to feel weird. i look and my skin around the IV is expanding like a balloon. my mom sends a nurse to come in and she exclaims "Oh my gosh!" then tries to play it cool and fix what was a blown IV dripping fluid under my skin, swelling up like a egg. they couldn't even get an IV in me properly, as "skinny" as i am according to them, with veins as visible as they are. it's very easy to see my veins. after 6 hours with no pain medication, treatment, or anything they send me home with a fat hospital bill and with the diagnosis that there was "nothing wrong" with me and that i had a "mild UTI exacerbating my period cramps." later from a different hospital i found out that i had an ovarian cyst the size of a small orange. :) nice! read more

I'm not happy being moved from my room at midnight and relocated to another floor while I was on pain meds. I am in pain enough ! If this is a standard practice stay away from this place. I should have been released or relocated earlier in the evening . I wasn't told till 1130 pm. Shit no courtesy! I'm so upset! I'm in pain I desperately need to sleep ! I am now still waiting to move to another room. No courtesy at all in this ! The nurses are nice and at least the food is good. Floor in room is dirty and stains on bed hand rails concern me greatly ! I'm now noticing everything that is wrong and it's stacking up ! cold and I have read the other reviews regarding this hospital. In the past, I have gone to the ER a few times for my kids, and once for myself. All times they were efficient and professional. My surgeon had quite a repair job to fix my shattered ankle (we are talking shards)! He put me back together very well, including a metal plate and screws, which I'm certain I've lost a few screws by now! lol Dr. Verhulst did my surgery at Arrowhead Hospital, and I never had any problems with any of the staff during my stay. They were all great! Now fast forward 20 years: Fell at home; Thought it was pulled tendons and nerves. Nope. Was I wrong! Turned out I had broken my hip! Go figure! I was taken to Arrowhead Hospital. From the time I arrived at the ER, to the time I was discharged from there, I cannot say anything bad about my stay! The nurses were friendly and caring; my surgeon, Dr. Vimala Ramachandran, was awesome with explaining everything she was going to do while I was put under and what to expect afterwards. After the surgery, she was very faithful in checking in on me and making sure my incision was healing correctly and that I didn't have any questions or concerns. Every response she has given me has been in layman's terms (which I greatly appreciate!), and she followed up with check ins at the Rehab Facility many times. She is an excellent orthopedic Dr! TY Dr. Ramachandran for all your help! I have to say, both times I was a patient at Arrowhead Hospital, with the exception of one of the people working at the surgery center area (she was cold and condescending and not a nice/happy person), all the other nurses and staff were friendly and never gruff or impatient. My experience here has been excellent (with the exception of that one person), which is why I gave 5 stars!! TY to everyone on staff that made a painful/yucky situation very tolerable! read more

Be aware !!!!!!! If you get cut and you end up in the ER at arrowhead hospital just know that you'll be getting out worst, and when I say worst I mean you'll catch an infection from the hospital! Go in there with one illness and you'll get out with more!!! OSHA please visit this hospital!!!! First of all I went to the ER cause I cut myself and was in a lot of pain and by the way It took 4 hours for someone to come and see me!!! I needed stitches and a nurse came in and didn't even wash her hands, then she put gloves on and analyzed my wound and touched it and didn't even care to clean my wound cause I was all bleeding. Then she must of forgot something outside cause she left from my room with the gloves on and came back after one minute with the same gloves still on. She was about to touch my wound again and I asked her: aren't you going to change those gloves and get new ones? Her response was: I don't have too!!! I was so upset when I heard that and I said: yes you have too! I then told her I am a medical student and I know this rules pretty well, then she said: FINE!!!!..... I'll change them if you want too. My best friend of 33 years was here for a few weeks and it truly was the worst experience of her life along with her family and friends. Absolutely no communication whatsoever! The absolute lack of communication was so bad that she was sent to a rehab center and they did not tell anyone! We had to track her down! She ended up at a rehab center for a total of 22 hours and was sent to Boswell ER because of septic shock! WTF! A month later she is dead. I hate this hospital. DON'T GO TO THIS EMERGENCY ROOM. I took my boyfriend there for High blood pressure 245/115, Unable to walk, sweating & nausea. Doctor & staff were unavailable (mostly standing around in hallway talking to each other) not examined /nothing explained, alone in room for most of the 6 1/2 hour nightmare I had to tell them the blood pressure monitor wasn't working. They tried 6 more before one worked. I left him there to return home thinking he was going to be admitted. They discharged him 20 mins later. I found him alone in the lobby in a wheelchair w/ a bedpan to vomit in & an empty cup of water feeling the same way he did 7hours before.He had a paper saying unable to 100% diagnose / follow up with physician. They said they felt comfortable discharging him. We went to another ER & they admitted him. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL!!! STAY AWAY FROM DR BRANDON W EISINGER - He will not run any tests and send patients home to die! My mother-in-law took my husband to the ER due to severe abdominal pain and vomiting. He arrived at 5am and was seen around 6am. They drew his blood but never sent it in to get tested. They diagnosed him with gastritis (without any tests) and told him to go home and follow up with a GI Doctor. My husband could barely get up and had to be wheeled back to the jeep. We asked them to at least send the blood to be tested and rule out appendicitis or gallbladder. They refused and discharged him. 12 hours later my husband is in more pain and can't get up. I went to speak with the ED Director at the hospital to ask why they wouldn't even do any tests during his 1st visit. She urged us to bring him back but the wait was 3 hours. She advised we go to another ER Medical Center at Lake Pleasant and he was able to be seen immediately. This time the doctor actually sent his bloodwork and it turned out he had gallstones and pancreatitis. The next morning he was transported back to Arrowhead Hospital to have surgery but he ended up catching pneumonia and they had to wait for the pneumonia to clear up. He ended up having to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks and had surgery to have his gallbladder removed. I feel like had they initially sent his bloodwork in during the 1st ER visit, they could have done surgery immediately before it got worse. We should have never taken him to Arrowhead Hospital in the first place. We will drive further next time to go to a better hospital who will actually run tests to diagnose a patient. The hospital reviewed his case and determined that all the right protocols were followed and that the doctor in the ER for the initial visit did what he was supposed to. The hospitalist during his surgery said my husband could have died if we hadn't brought him back to the hospital. I don't understand how the the medical director, Dr. Rodriguez, thinks this whole incident was okay. read more

So I got a medication that almost killed me .I called back and said they could not do anything to help to go to my primary doctor or go to a hospital to get reevaluated.REALLY? I need to go back in for another 4 hrs to switch the medication?After being there 1 day ago... Why not talk to the doctor and ask him if he can switch the medication? Why not help a human out? terrible hospital! I will never go there again! I had elective prostrate surgery , nurses were very un profesional. Orderly kept coming in at night and talking to me waking me up showing me my catheter bag full of urine and blood holding it up saying look how full it is ready to burst (gross) and then he would always talk to me waking me up for nor reason. I was in agony for 1 hour because catheter bag was not emptied, I had to beg for pain medication. Fire alarm drill happened as I was coming out of surgery under sedation, orderly flushed toilet at 2:00 in morning and it would not stop flushing for 45 minutes. I took my little boy here 15 years ago and they said he had appendicitis took him to children's hospital in$500 AMBULANCE because there was no pediatric surgeon there (thank god) where the other hospital said he was constipated, TERRIBLE hospital, never again! read more

My responsibility is 20% and then told me they would except 1/2 if I can't afford the whole $2000. Who has $2000 or even $1000 sitting around a week before surgery? Omg i will never go to arrowhead hospital again if my life depends on it. It was the worst experience. The er personal left me in a er room for 1 1/2 days, after being admitted on the first day. I laid there watching the staff point to rooms and start laughing. When I finally got a room it was with a crazy lady that wouldn't stop yelling for coffee, food, or whatever it was she wanted at the time. A person needs to be able to sleep to heal, and I did neither. I felt helpless and complained to the staff. I was told I would be moved to another room. That's all I heard for the next two days. The lady in my room was now starting to come over to me and start yelling at me. They had her bed on some kind of alarm, so every time she got up it would go off. I heard to lay there and listen to them yell at her to stop getting out of bed. I had to finally push back. I started yell at her and the staff that all I want is sleep so I could heal. I couldn't take it anymore, so I yelled for the nurse to take the iv out or I would rip it out, so I could go somewhere to get some sleep. I was told around 3am I had another room for me. I told them all I need is sleep. I was moved at that point. I was a patient not a babysitter. read more

I really want to like this hospital. I have given it three chances now. I would just say that in general their nursing staff is sub par (not to mention the bathroom was super dirty in my SHARED room). Their nursing supervisors have been great but their staff training is severely lacking. My newborn was admitted to Banner Thunderbird Hospital in January 2016 for 10 days with whooping cough and I could see the contrast in nursing staff so clearly. It was day and night in terms of knowledge and taking ownership of their patients. My first experience was having a C-section in February 2016. My uterus would not contract and I began hemorrhaging. The nurse did not respond when I told her I was in extreme pain. Finally after expelling three large blood clots and screaming for my life, the nurse supervisor came to my rescue and within minutes 5 nurses and my doctor came to my aid. I truly believe I was minutes away from death and they couldn't get my pain under control until it was all over. It was far worse pain than childbirth ever was. Call me crazy, but the reason I came back to this hospital is because my doctor had privileges here and I really loved my gynecological oncologist. There weren't any surgical openings at Thunderbird so I agreed to come here for my hysterectomy. Once again, the nurses were not prepared when a life-threatening emergency arose. I had an allergic reaction to the narcotic ( Dilaudid) they gave me after surgery and I told the nurse I couldn't breathe and my heart was slowing as I was going in and out on consiousness. The nurse just sort of stood there. Luckily my husband took charge and went and bought a supervisor nurse. He was amazing and immediately ordered fluids and a cardio test but it scares me to think that if my husband hadn't been there, the other nurse wouldn't have handled it properly. Both times we had to initiate getting help over and above their standard nurses. I must have some guardian angels because somehow I am still here. read more

As little as 5 years ago, Arrowhead was on of the finest Hospitals in town. Now I would rate as one of the worst. The nurses are doing the best they can, but they cannot carry the hospital alone. Communitations and the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. The quality of the patient food is uneatable. I was in the hospital. 2-1/2 days and only received 2 meals that were so bad I sent then back and only once did I receive my daily meds, Simply put, extremely bad service. read more

10 years ago during my daughters birth I was told by nursing staff it was too early for epidural next thing you know they're telling me I need to start pushing , and that is was too late for the epidural!! I had my daughter naturally without any drugs!! The pain was excruciating and unbearable!! Present moment.. my sister just experienced the same from this nursing staff at Arrowhead Hospital! She was denied medical care and sent home after they told her it was too soon, 2 hours later she went back because contractions were consistent! Upon arrival nursing staff told my sister it was too late for any epidural..she also suffered as a result of their negligence! Horrible, uncaring, unprofessional staff and shame on Arrowhead Hospital for hiring staff with such a lack of medical knowledge!!! read more

Zach in the lab was so good a his job!! I didn't even feel him stick me with the needle for my blood draw! He is the person to ask for!

OK, I went there for a very fixable bleeding ulcer caused by a med I was taking--but gushing blood upon admittance--and was rushed into emergency and then put on the ward just below the ICU, so I got stuck there for 3.5 days. Fixable but scary. Since I was alone and I'm a talker anyway, I spoke to everyone who came in my solitary room--and I can tell you that in my experience everyone from Dr. to nurse to the cleaning staff was just friendly, warm, caring and just really lovely. Nobody wants to be in a hospital sick, but if I have to be in a hospital I surely hope it will be as nice as the people who work at Arrowhead! I was really impressed with the kind, caring staff...and even the food was good when they let me eat finally. read more

Arrowhead ER was fantastic my teenage daughter got hurt late Sunday night we were in and out in 2.5 hours with x rays. Peoria and Glendale Fire kept coming in with people worse off then my kid. So that pushed us down the line of care.... as it should! It was a busy late Sunday night. I'm very happy with the care My teenager received. read more
