I went to Lowe's yesterday to purchase a new water heater and have it installed. ARS, their installation partner, was supposed to assess my area between 10 am and 2 pm but never showed up or called. When I followed up, they reassigned me to someone else who was supposed to come at 4 pm. Again, no one showed up, and there was no callback. I contacted them again and was told I was "next in line." That was 1.5 hours ago. I've been getting the runaround from their call center, and after reading other reviews, I'm losing hope. I might try Home Depot instead. I'll update my review tomorrow. June 10 Update: Someone finally arrived around 6:20 p.m., likely because I kept following up. While the technician was polite, the conversation felt like a sales pitch, and somehow, a $4,500 water softener was brought up.I didn't inquire about a water softener??? The installation pricing was also confusing and very high. The pitch was, "If you go with us, you get 24/7 support." Given my experience, I didn't believe it. I opted for Home Depot, whose vendor charged $1,420 less--an incredible difference! And they have already been out to replace my old water heater. I'm adding an extra star because, despite the inconvenience & sales pressure, the technician did help identify why the PVC pipe below the water heater was leaking after unplugging the unit. read more

Ars was readily available to come and work on my heater. Find problems with it and sell and install a new one. Last night,3 weeks later a heavy rain came and my living room flooded from the ceiling. due to their faulty installation of the vent ,I took in water from the first heavy rain. If I could select a ZERO star, I would. We had an emergency with sewer gas fumes. So my husband called, they came out within 3hrs, and two guys showed up. They didn't have any tools or cameras or smoke bombs to detect the sewer gas; they only looked at what exposed pipes were in the attic using their eyeballs and said, "Yeah, no sign of a leak, and we do not smell gas. And by the way, I've been doing this for 15 years, and sewer gas doesn't smell like rotten eggs or poop because I know what sewer gas smells like. We are in a 4,900-square-foot custom home; there was no way, without cameras or smoke bombs, he would be able to detect a leak and or find the source of the gas. I expressed to him that this situation has been lingering off and on since December 23' but last night was so bad in our Main bedroom/Closet/bathroom/office, and 4 yr old daughter's bedroom that we had to move our mattresses out into the living room the fumes were so toxic it was making me nauseous. Our four-year-old wouldn't even go in her room. She kept saying it smelled disgusting. With sewer gas, there are health hazards to the extent of death in high volumes. When I voiced my concern, he told me sewer gas will not make you sick; you'll be fine. Ok, genius, in high volumes of sewer gas is the silent killer, you moron. But you're an expert since you've been doing this for 15 years. I'm not sure who was in charge of hiring this idiot. It must have been out of desperation. While he's telling me he doesn't smell the gas, there's nothing wrong with our house, but if it would make you feel better, you can find a company to do the smoke test, but it's costly, and we don't do it. Well, by the looks of it, you don't do anything. After that, I walked outside to let my husband handle the stupidity. But he still charged us a $275 trip charge. Steer clear of ARS. Thank God we pursued another plumbing company, Reliant. They had smoke bombs and found ALL kinds of leaks. And said we had a sewer gas leak; they had to cut Sheetrock out of the master toilet and my four-year-old daughter's closet. Also found a leak behind our daughter's toilet with visible water on the floor, which was there when ARS showed up, but they said there were no leaks present; her toilet has to be rebuilt. I asked them how they knew; he said we looked with our eyes. WTF. We also have a leak in our powder bath sink and a leak in our front yard, jacking up our water bills for the last nine months. Who on earth gets $700 a month of water bills every month? So, if you're looking for a reliable plumbing company with highly skilled plumbers, I recommend calling Reliant. And as ARS stated, the fire and police departments would have to be notified for a smoke bomb; that's total BS. We recently had an issue with our upstairs unit (unfortunately purchased from ARS in 2016 for way too much $$). It had stopped working, so of course we call ARS out for diagnostics. After a $1200 cleaning fee to help diagnose the problem, we were told that we needed a new condenser. Luckily the unit was still under warranty for parts. But....they no longer carried Lenox and were unable to get the part we needed. Plus they said the laws have changed on the refrigerant type (which they have) and we would no longer be able to add refrigerant to this unit. **Side note- they said they were selling units that used old refrigerant up until a month ago. So the people that purchased these units will be SOL**. We were told that *if* we were able to find a condenser it would be at least $5K and we just needed to buy a brand new unit. We were quoted $20K. Of course, we got a second opinion. We JUST had a guy out and guess what he found. The ONLY issue was that we were low on refrigerant and he charged us $150 to fix the problem ARS lied and wanted to charge us $20K when we were able to fix the issue for $150. I am disgusted that we have been using ARS for the last 10 years and who knows how much money they've scammed us out of. They are nothing but con artists. read more

Next step was to try to bait and switch me from an advertised $49.00 tune-up service to a $129.00 emergency fee in which case the tech could suddenly now be able to arrive that same day but late in the evening vs. staying with the current tune-up visit that would need to be rescheduled to happen not until about 2-weeks later! Moreover, the price for any needed R22 refrigerant would be at a sky high robbery rate of $700/pound! Whereas, a little bit of research shows that other reliable and trustworthy HVAC service providers in the area typically charge around $100/pound for R22. This company is a scam operation and clearly a collection of crooks. All who read this are strongly advised to steer way clear of them. read more

If you go through Home Depot they will tell you your heating and air is considered one system, but then when the tech gets there they will tell you they only check either heater or AC, it's $30 for each individual unit of the system and that they do not consider the coupon for one system even though that's what is specifically says in the fine print. The tech acknowledges that it is one system and the coupon is for one system, but says he doesn't care & will only do one. What a waste of time scheduling and getting everything ready for nothing. Your reps should be more upfront that you intend to have your techs be rude and unhelpful once they arrive. read more

It seems that this was caused by a slight oversight from the tech but they contacted me and did what they could to help with the trouble. We have been customers with ARS for over ten years. Recently we have had both our heating schooling replaced for a cost of over 20,000 dollars. The last replacement process was relatively difficult. I had a backed-up main sewer line that needed to be repaired, along with some foundation issues that likely caused it, come to find out later. I contacted ARS to clear the line, scope it and see what needed to be done. I also had the foundation repaired. They cleared the line and upon visual inspection with their camera, they said there was a crack about 4 ft underneath the foundation. I contacted my homeowner's insurance company since this would be covered. Insurance company said yes and to contact them once the crack was found so they could verify it was underneath the house. I told ARS to go ahead since insurance would cover most of it. They came out and started digging. They did find a crack, 18 inches outside the foundation but continued to tunnel 4ft under the house where the technician said the crack was. Guess what? There was no crack there, it was the one outside the foundation. Not only were they wrong, but they were also off by 6 feet on their estimation. How do you use a camera and miss by that much? Now the repair is outside the foundation insurance would not cover it. It had to be done and I had ARS move fwd with the repair. I gave them my CC# and signed for them to move forward. They did not charge my card at the time for some reason. I received a call months later that I had not paid and needed to settle up. They wanted to charge me for the unnecessary tunneling under the house based on their error. I told them they should have charged me when the work was done but since they didn't, I was not going to pay for their error. We did agree on a reduced price but still more than it should have been. They gave me a 10-year written warranty which I have a copy of. Fast fwd several years later (still within the 10) and I have blockage again. I contacted them for warranty work and was told someone would call me back. No one did. I called another company to snake the drain. I called ARS again, I was told someone would call me back and yet again, no one called me back. I tried one more time, same result. Over a month of trying to get someone to discuss the warranty repairs and no contact from them. Since I was getting no response I called another plumbing company, they came out, identified the issue, said it was a faulty design and repair by ARS as their joint failed, not a cracked pipe. It has been repaired again and I feel better about it this time. I would recommend using your brothers' kids for plumbing repair vs ARS. (actually, get a good plumbing company unless your brother's kid is an actual plumber) ARS did not do quality work and did not stand behind their warranty. read more

I have used them for six years. They installed a whole unit for me. I have been on a preferred customer maintenance plan for six years. The last three technicians that came out, gave me three different stories on a problem that turned out to be (fake). Yep fake. I never told any of them what the other technicians said, to see if they were lying. One guy even said. "Your whole system is old and it needs replacing." This guy said this about the 6 year old Rheem, that they themselves installed! The same system that I had maintenance twice a year by them! I called a new company and I stayed right with the guy and never mentioned the above. As soon as we walked up to the outside unit, he pointed toward the slab underneath. He got a new toilet, repaired the broken cut-off to it and replaced so that it works perfectly. I had a garbage disposal installed by them in July. Today I have water coming out where the plumbing enters the disposal. This is a brand new install and has no reason to be failing within 6 months. I called and was told that there is only a 30 day warranty on labor so nothing would likely be covered. They then said they could not send anyone out for 3 days. Oh sure, just 3 days without use of our sink or dishwasher, that works. We spent 380$ dollars in LABOR to have a new disposal installed. This installation lasted 6 months before failing. I would never consider using this company again for anything. Terrible quality, terrible service and also very expensive. AVOID. UPDATE: I had another company (highly rated) send somebody out to fix the issue. They clearly explained that the way the install was done, there would be no way for the problem not to re-occur. It was a flawed installation from the start and there was not enough clearance for the joint to ever hold due to vibration from the disposal. This is a Home Depot recommended contractor. We didn't have time to research and would have like to trusted someone to help. DON'T TRUST THEM....and I wouldn't trust Home Depot for another contractor from here out either. Our hot water heater went out and we were glad to get a quick response through Home Depot online. There was a visit early the next day from someone to sell us a product with a promise to get a new heater installed that day. He measured our water heater closet, checked water pressure, looked over comparable products and gave us a price....a pricey price with labor. But we needed the heater. That evening we still hadn't seen an installer. I called the representative we had earlier when it got to be past 5 p.m. He didn't respond. I called the dispatcher. They said he was on the way. At 6 p.m. I called the dispatcher, no answer. I texted the rep. He said he had just called the dispatcher (yeah, right) and there'd be a crew soon. The CREW was one kid to take out the old and bring in the new when he arrived at 7:30p.m. The short: The stupid water heater was bigger than our old one and we could barely shut the door on the heater closet. Our fire detectors went off from the welding. The 'technician' forgot to put in the shut off valves we were required to have and we had to tell him to redo. This is the second time that my A/C went out on me since we replace the whole unit inside and out and the A/C was replace in June 2025 and in July my A/C froze from the inside and it was freaking hot in my house and I had to work that night and they keep on changing the time that they would come by and the time they did show up it was around 5 pm and found out the my thermostat was not working so he replace it with another and that the next the some one will come out and bring the right one. So now we r in August and now my A/C is not working again and we called in the service and someone came out on a Sunday and said that he could not fix it cause the blower went out and that he did not have one on him so he place a work order and we have the email that said that then needed to be here asap for the next day. So on Monday they told my husband that they will be out between 8 am to 12 pm but since I work overnight I got off a little bit late so he called them and asked they if they could show up after 10 am so 10 am came nothing and then they said 12 - 4 pm that someone will be out so around 4 my husband calls and they said that he got tied up with another client and that he will be here shortly then we look into our email again and they said between 6-8 pm will guess what no one should up at all and the worst part of this that we never got a phone call to me or my husband through out the whole day so how poor is their customer service is I think its very poorly because we live in Texas and the summer is brutal so we had to go by two A/C units for our house and believe me I will get them reimbursed back to me. So today is Tuesday let see how long it will take them to come over to fix it. read more

So today was the scheduled day and the service clown that is scheduled to do the repair sends one text message and without an instant response skips me and moves on. Now I can't get them to schedule a repair or even bother to have a dispatcher call me back. So after days of waiting I STILL can't get them to bother with even looking at the AC which is totally broken. The Home Depot $29 tuneup promotion is simply a ploy for ARS to come to your house to find worst case scenario problems to sell you an overpriced system - and with a better price if done NOW! It's an obvious joke. They failed before they showed up. The "12-4" timeframe was 5:15 after calling for an ETA after waiting all day. Then, the salesman threw out his rubber gloves in the street & didn't bother to consider a trash can. Thirdly, I can't get them to email the assessment report with the data they supposedly gathered when they assessed my HVAC system. "They sent it", "maybe the wrong email", "check your junk folder" , "they're sending it now", "it's not in the system, 'I'll call the technician now".... It's a joke over there and never will I let them do anything at my house. read more

I've been a customer of ARS Rescue Rooter for about 15 years. After this last service, they have lost my business forever. For the longest time, ARS had been the Gold Standard when it came to service in the Austin area. Their breadth of service enabled them to fix nearly any problems that arose with homeownership. Having one company that could do it all simplified things greatly. Until June 2020. We had a burst main water line at our house. This required the leak to be located, a dig crew coming out to dig a trench to install a new main water line, the actual repair and finally the dig crew returning to fill the trench back in. At first, things went sort of well - the leak was found, the dig crew came out two days later (this was over a weekend) and the fix was applied. Then.... Nothing for almost a week. I had to call to see what the hold up was and was patched through to the dig team manager who said that they were waiting on an inspection. The whole lack of communication was frustrating throughout. The dig team finally showed back up to fill everything back in after a week of inactivity, killing portions of our landscaping unnecessarily. Some of the issues we experienced on this call: * The plumber would simply walk into the house without knocking, Repeatedly. Really? SMH * There was no further communication after the plumber was dispatched. Everything was based on his word and his projected timeline which fell apart. The complete lack of ownership of our case began to give off the feel that they had forgotten about us and that our subsequent call was the only thing that spurred them to action. Cough... Cough... Is this thing on? * They refused to work with our household insurance, instead wanting us to pay upfront and then settle with the insurance afterwards. You can imagine the expense. * The loss of landscaping from the inactivity is hard to stomach. Some plants were uprooted, then simply left laying about to die, root balls exposed. Other plants were simply covered up by the dug out dirt for over a week, killing them. Irrigation pipes were somehow left exposed in the air. Shoddy work all around. * The final visit from the dig team was incomplete. Large holes were unfilled with a mound of dirt just sitting there. I'll do it myself - what was I paying these guys for again? * The final insult was their "We Care" follow up survey. They took so long to finish this job that their survey had expired! They really do care about the voice of the customer -but, you know, technology... My final recommendation is to avoid ARS at all costs. I only worked with ARS because of home depot purchase of central AC unit. Today I called because I smelled wire burning from the attic area. My husband went to the attic, hear sparks and could see a visible burn mark on the box. The scheduler was rude almost from the beginning of the conversation. The scheduler yelled at me repeatedly stating they can come out July 6 or not at ALL. Now I'm trying to explain to her that I'm afraid of my house burning down because an installer error but she stated to me you don't want me to tell you what you can do. Now in order to be seen as a priority customer I need to pay for this $10 a month plan or $180 plan. And because of the extreme heat and their business schedule (which I understand) I may be seen next day after speaking with the third scheduler. I asked if I had another company come out will I be reimbursed and the answer to that is I'm just the scheduler. I spoke with three different schedule just to get a little help. And I asked for a supervisor and even asked for Rene from Quality to be emailed to contact me. I was told very rudely she will not contact until 3-5 business days. I ask for a manager or supervisor. I was told there is no one for me to speak too. Ok, the Technician Ricky Rodriguez came over to fix the problem same day after paying the $180 bucks and he is just as rude as the scheduler. My husband was asked Ricky why did we experience the burn out of this item and he looked at my husband then stated I'm not here to argue with you. And I'm not Houdini. I can not answer that for you. These things just happened. Man what a experience I tell from start to finish terrible. I guess asking questions offended him. This has been the most rude and unprofessional experience ever.
