Scheduled an appointment with these guys from 9am-12pm. I got a call from the repairman after 2pm. said he couldn't find parking and I should call another company. I rescheduled my whole week around this appointment for it to be cancelled when he was a block away for a lame excuse. I was standing in an empty parking spot that I was holding for him but he called after he already left the city and would not return. Lost my business that's for sure. I live in plymouth ma. In 2021 app, we intalled two Hp ac/heat systems with Ars. About a month ago I notice water on the floor by one system and new it was time to replace one of the condensor pumps. I went online to purchase one, but could not get info off of the present pump. So, in the past with ars they have charged me about $80 for a pump. So sense I did not have the right info, I called ars to come and replace the pump. When the tech showed up , i told him to replace both as they only last about two years. He looked up the price, almost gave me a heart attack, $1200.00 installed. I thought he was kidding. He did knock the price down to $900. which was still robbery! I took the info off of one the the pump boxes after he left and went on amazon with the now known info and ordered the exact same pumps two for $104. delivered. I now will change them out in the future myself as it is as easy as opening your car door.Takes litterally about 20 min. If i could go negative on my review I would. read more

I purchased Lennox Heating unit and AC unit together 6 years ago from ARS with 10 years warranty on parts, recently AC coil got broken, I called them for replacing coil, they kept me in the process more than a month , every time I called them, they were saying no ETA on the part. After month waiting long, they told me that, coil not covers 10 years warranty, that information nowhere mentioned when they sold the product. ARS customer service is not good, there is no follow up for my messages, their service is expensive too. It is waste of time and money when you hire ARS, I strongly recommend, don't hire ARS for any type of work. read more

Waste of time and money. They charge an estimate fee and then try to to upsell a whole new system which has nothing to do with the original problem. They did not diagnose the issue whatsoever. We ended up getting a second and third opinion which weren't even close to how much they wanted to charge. We've had work done with them prior and their warranty is only one year. Instead of scheduling it, they want to send a technician to inspect and write an estimate - at a cost of over $100. A waste of money and time , not to mention bad for the environment. Had to have some dampers replaced on my system. The ARS technician came and explained that the job was a big job because he had to remove the exhaust and inlet plumbing, as well as other items that prevented one of the dampers from being removed easily. The quote was $1670, which I thought was high, but given the extensive amount of work involved, I agreed. When the technician return for installation, he cut the duct from the bottom and easily removed the troubled damper. No plumbing work or removal of any other items was required. He spent less than an hour on the site. Naturally I called ARS to discuss the bill and to ask how they arrived at that number, since they provided no parts or labor costs on the invoice. The ARS rep explained that their hourly rate is $416 and that the charge was for 3 1/2 hrs. He also told me that they don't quote costs because they are a flat rate company. Buyers beware! read more

Updating my review after my discussion with the customer service manager. The technician that came for checking the motor (which stopped working) was not aware that I came via Home Depot and was given special offer which is for Home depot customers only. The fact that he came right away to check it whereas normally it would take days for them to give an appointment is something I should appreciate. I just think that he could have handled the communication in a better way so I did not have any confusion about the packages he was offering. The quote that he gave for condensation pump replacement was a bit higher so I declined the services and got it done myself for far cheaper. They did do a great job in cleaning the vents, I was really impressed with the cleaning guys, they were very helpful and diligent. I am changing my rating to 4 stars, 1 less because I think they could have handled the communication in a better way about the packages offered when the technician showed up for repair. Also pricing is a little on the higher side but you get what you pay for. read more

I spent $7100+ on a heating a/c system installed by ARS 3 years ago. Since that time it has broken down 4 times, leaving me to spend over $1,000 in repairs to the " new" system. I am definitely not happy with the substandard furnace or the overinflated service call bills. ARS installs $7100 worth of an HVAC system in my home and then proceeds to charge an arm and a leg to keep it running. Not my idea of a stellar customer service arrangement. I implore you to shop around. Local HVAC installers seem to care more about their customers than these larger outfits.... read more

This place is great if you have money to burn. They show up for a "diagnostic" charge you $150 for the pleasure. They then "recommend" several thousand dollars of repairs and blame it on the homeowner for not changing the air filters frequently enough. Apparently changing air filters lowers the usable life on your air conditioning unit from 15+ years to 2...thanks for the info ARS! Update: Apparently I'm a glutton for punishment, so I requested a quote for a replacement air handler and inner coil. 2 weeks, 5 unreturned phone calls and several 90 degree days later, still no quote. As a Home Depot installer, they apparently don't mind stuffing previous customers...I'll say a prayer for all those Home Depot customers suckered in to using them! Update 2: Found Boston Standard on Angie's List, much better overall experience, would highly recommend them instead of this motley crew! read more

They were terrific. Our furnace had issues and they made sure someone came out that day. (Take that Sears). Jim C. was consciences and thorough. He figured the issue and was done in an hour. (Take that Sears). They also installed our new central AC unit when our old one conked out during a long hot streak a couple of years ago. After waiting for 5 weeks for Sears to schedule an installation, ARS had a new one installed within 1 1/2 days. I totally recommend them to anyone who needs AC, heat or plumbing repair. Don't hire this company. They promise you they can do the job, and then the weekend before the Monday they are supposed to do a complete central air conditioning install, They don't notify you when they will be there on Monday morning. Used them twice in the last couple of years, the second time the office called a half hour after scheduled time to cancel and reschedule for the following day, Had to leave work early 2 days in a row to get my A/C system charged.Also, technician was supposed to give me an estimate to replace the entire system...never heard from them.. Anyway, currently, I made an appointment between 2-4 to get an estimate just a few weeks ago. The guy shows up 2 hrs. early and by the time I got his message I had to rush home leaving work early yet again to A huge verbal estimate of 15,000.00 ..He says I"ll have the estimate to you on Monday which was 3 days away..Never received it, called and asked and he said I don't know what happened to it..waited 2 days, called again He said send me your email address just to be sure...still nothing...Texted the next day ...nothing..3 weeks later nothing.Time is valuable to everyone ,don't waste mine.... read more

I called ARS of Boston to check out why my AC wasn't running. I had recently replaced my capacitor and contactor in my outdoor condenser, I also thought possibly my control board was bad so I ended up replacing that but still could not get my unit running. Decided to call ARS since I couldn't get my unit to run and I gave up. Will came over, but to no avail, also could not figure it out so he called another employee and found my condenser was wired incorrectly on the air handlers control board inside. When he found the wiring, it was wired on the Y terminal and the R terminal. He then switched it so the condenser was wired on the R terminal and the C terminal (condensers are suppose to be Y and C since when the thermostat calls for cooling, 24 VAC is energized on the Y terminal and causes the contactor to engage and turn on the outdoor unit, as I found out afterwards), he then jumped the thermostat out and the system ran. He then diagnosed the issue as a bad thermostat. He quoted me $1100 to install a new thermostat which I declined and decided to pay over $600 to keep the wiring in the state he left it since I was not 100% if he changed anything else that I possibly could have done wrong. After replacing the thermostat, the system would not run, i then checked the schematic in my air handler and realized the correct wiring for the condenser is Y and C and the thermostat wiring should be Y for cooling, W for heating, R for power, G for fan and C for common. I ended up having to change the condenser wiring anyways at the control board. After putting the new thermostat in, and correcting the condenser wiring, and having to replace a fuse, my system ran. Paid over $600 basically to just having to fix it again myself. Also left my attic door wide open, left my condenser open (he found it like that but I'd think he would close it since I paid over $500 for "re-wiring"). Way over priced to just end up fixing it myself. It was a bad thermostat which he was correct, but the "re-wiring" was wrong! $150 to have them come out and $500 for "re-wiring", then just had to fix it anyways. Go somewhere else! read more

Got to ARS through Home Depot after I requested to get a new water heater installed for a house I just moved into. Install was easy and fast and techs were really good. Ended up calling back a month or so later when my furnace was acting up and needed to call them in for emergency check-in. I got their tech Anthony who was fantastic, knowledgable, and on top of the fix. Walked me through everything and schooled me on what to look for. Really great tech and experience and I'm having them back for my A/C tune-up soon. read more

ARS was great to schedule a seasonal service with, however, anything outside of that has been an awful experience. Had to replace my a/c condenser. ARS came out and left a quote for me. I was told that I could finance it with HomeDepot & that if the Rep from ARS called in with me, it would simplify the process. Fantastic! I scheduled June 1st @ 8 am with the rep. Night before he told me he would be there until 9 am. Not a big deal since I didn't have to leave my house until 10 am for work. Was then told the morning of the 1st that the would be closer to 9:30 am...feel it was cutting it tight time wise but he assured me we would have plenty of time. At 9:55 am I sent him a text and told him we had to reschedule. He said he would be pulling in my driveway in 5 minutes and I all I had to do was sign a form...umm, what? Sign my name to a purchase that was $6,400 without having my questions answered. No way! He showed up as I was leaving and acted as if he had no idea why he was meeting me. I told him it was to go over the quote, the work being done, the call to HomeDepot...he was clueless. He said he could come back later...no can do since my schedule was booked. A phone call to ARS to complain and they had a manager call me on Monday. The manager came to my house, answered my questions & assisted in the call to HomeDepot. Install was on the 4th. I was called after the install and told I needed to sign paperwork (sign off on the install??) and that they had to do a quick service (not sure what for) and they said Saturday morning of the 8th at 9 a.m. No one showed up. Wasn't surprised by now. Received a call a couple days ago from ARS...they need my signature still. Made an appointment for Wednesday, June 26th at 5 p.m. Guess who showed up??? No one! Their business card states "United by Exceptional Service" I think they mean Lip Service! No idea why this keeps happening and I am beyond frustrated. I almost wonder if they think single parents may not know any better. I used to give my clients their contact info...no more. There are plenty of other companies around who would be happy for additional business and customer service. I omitted names of reps so as not to throw them under the bus any any more than I have. read more

I'm not someone who writes reviews for anything yet alone writing multiple reviews for the same company. However I do NOT want another person to make the same mistakes I did by choosing ARS. We paid approximately $15K to have this Lennox Combi boiler system put in all to fail working 20 days after installation. Tonight 7pm I went up to the bathroom to run my toddler a bath oh to my surprise there's no hot water. Went downstairs to the wall unit it's flashing error code 128. I reset the system by flipping the switch off and on. Still no hot water. I checked my heat, I don't have heat as well. So I had to boil water for my son in order for him to take a bath. I called ARS the tech who called me had no idea what the error code meant he said he had to look it up on Google to find out what it meant. He called me back stating that it's a part issue and he doesn't have that part. It'll have to wait in the morning. Here I am once again without hot water or heat after paying ARS to install this system. If you need heating installation don't use this company. I just want to forewarn the next person who might be thinking of hiring them. I should've read the reviews before allowing them to change our heating system. Very disappointed in the knowledge of their techs all around company. I have definitely learned my lesson and it won't happen again. read more

We woke up to our Thermostat clicking and my husband called them to get our thermostat which was easy to dx replaced. The tech came and he of course had to try to dx it anyway at the cost of $135 to just walk in the house. I as told by their CSR person this was his fee for driving to my home. Please note in 2008 we paid them 12k to replace our gas heating system and in 2014 another 6k to update our AC. Anyway we needed a new thermostat which cost retail about $58.00 and they charged us 263.00 ! for the replacement of the thermostat and also 135 a total of $398! THey never quoted part costs, nor labor costs for a twenty minute job. NEVER EVER EVER use this company. They do not quote labor or parts and double charge for dx and then additional fees for outlandish labor. I called them and asked them to take off the 135 for the techs drive to my house and dx fee and charge us only $263.00 which is basically $200 for twenty minutes of labor. I am reporting them to the BBB too. You are now aware of their unfair business practices. read more

This company was going to charge me $2,953 for steam boiler maintenance. I missed a year when it didn't get cleaned but it should have only needed a couple of cleanings and minor repairs (the boiler is only 7 years old). I asked my plumber to give me a second opinion. Here is what he wrote: "Lisa, I am sorry to see they are trying to rip you off. The employees must be on a commission. A thermocouple goes for $34.12 not $164 Main steam vents cost $44.09 each not $137.00 Radiator vents cost $24.50 McDonnell Miller low water cut-offs cost $325-$350, not $1,100. Boiler drains themselves cost $16.00 each, not $300; rough guess on a tee would be $15.00...but why do they want to install drains? We charge $134.00 per hour. My guess you may have 2-3 hours. A thorough cleaning will include checking all radiator valves and vents. We replace the vents as necessary and repack any leaking radiator valve. If the boiler is real dirty it may require a few cleanings.. You do not need a service program. Just money in their pocket All steam boilers need to be serviced yearly Also, I did a quick search for Nest products. You can get them yourself and there is a Mass Save rebate. Do not buy them from him at $603. If you register with Mass Save you may be able to get Nest from them." So why didn't I go with my tried and true plumbing company in the first place? Made Appointment through Home Depot for free estimate. Gave me different openings. Picked 2p-3p on Wed. Rep told me they would be calling me on Tue to confirm. Same day they called me to confirm. I was impressed thinking how quickly they responded. However, call was to see if they could move up appointment. I told them I could only do 3-5p. They told me they could set up for 2-4p. So, I said Ok. They called me again next day and left msg asking me the same thing to move up time. I did not call back. Tuesday comes, tech calls me and left me msg to call back to confirm appointment. I called back to confirm. He goes, "I will be there at 2pm, but I have early appointment available." I said," my appointment was for 2-4p and it would be great if you could come after 2p." He said, "I can't do later than 2p." I was like ok 2p is fine. Then he goes,"Sorry I can't do 2pm." He just told me he was going to come at 2pm and in secs he said he could not come at 2pm. Is it because its free estimate or they just don't care about new customers? I just cancelled appointment when he said he would have to reschedule. Very bad customer service. read more

Overpriced, poor quality workmanship, did not install heating system up to code, plumbing inspector made them come back and change out all of the venting pipes which was not done at installation. Never ask them to do any work with out. This company does an awesome job taking away you money. I have an just under 5 year old lennox high end systems. And through home depot asked for the tune up service. I had an observation to these company prior service and that sounded an alarm for me. I always believe on second chance. This time they want to charge me on for Freon gas refill for about 3 lb. For such machines you must not be spending on refill until you discover the leak. He said that he fill up and look for next year. OK. He said it cost 194 for first lb and consecutive to be 174. For some reason i remember that many years ago my friend was chart approximate that much money for doing such work. OK.. I paid of and he left he house in 40 mints of all work. Nice.. Luckily I happen to talk to my friend who told this is not right. He specialized on these systems. I called few other Lennox authorized companies and the chart difference is huge. This company charges thr retired R22(~$150) gas price for the 410A gas($3-5). Check it up yourself. This is a huge scam. Please do not do any work suggest by these people without evaluated. Three year ago i was asked for clean up charge on the vents. OK i did. After that i went on with my many friends who also new home owners just to take care of things. But i observed the day - night difference on my vent vs their vents. OK a good learning. This time its a complete scam by these people. I try what so ever best to make this aware for other people. I'm not saying about the technicians, if the company ask them to look for money always, its not the place you need to end up with. Just be aware and educate yourself, avoid falling on this company trap. They never coming into my home ever again. Had kitchen sink faucet, garbage disposal and pipe replaced by ARS. Water from this sink tasted awful after and smelled awful. Supervisor came and took sample, said it might take three weeks for results. That was January. I called in March for results was told supervisor would call back. No call. Same thing in April. Same thing in August. Now Sept and I give up. Also after doing several plumbing things in the past for me including installation of new sink, I asked to have the exhaust pipe extended to meet code and was told "we only do minor plumbing" again I give up. After writing this review, I did receive a follow up from a PR person at the company who made attempts to rectify the situation and offered some complementary service which I declined simply because I didn't need it but did appreciate the follow up call and it did indicate to me that someone at the company cared. read more

Robert came out. The issue I had was that the units proposed seemed to be oversize and they only use Lenox. Yet they were pricier than other proposals I got that also used Lenox. The really annoying part was the "salesy" stuff where Robert would not send me the stuff ahead of time. He always had to meet with me to go over the proposals. I can read. ARS is affiliated with home depot. While at the home depot they try to sell you on home HVAC repairs with free estimates. I had some projects in mind so I gave them my info. When I called ARS, I spoke to someone that didn't know where to direct my call, and so she said she would have someone call me back. Lo and behold, no one ever called me. So I called again today to get more information. Some one different answered. She had no idea who I was, or that I had called before, or that someone was supposed to call me back. She also had to idea where to direct my call, and then proceeded to tell me she was going to charge me $99 for the free estimate home depot had promised. These people are unorganized with poor customer service. I'd advise looking elsewhere. read more

We used ARS of Boston to do a "tune-up" and inspection via a special on Angie's List. The charge was $88/unit of which we have two. We made an appointment and were told the technician would arrive between 8:00 and Noon. My wife called the day before to see if they could come earlier, to which they said a technician would arrive between 7:00 and 9:00 AM. The technician, Chris T., arrived at 8:50 AM, which was great. Chris was cordial and professional, put on shoe protectors whenever he entered the house, and was focused and respectful. He did identify two issues that would cost more than the tune-up charge. One was replacing an air filter, the other was adding more refrigerant to one of the compressors. The total of these two was $198. I am not sure if that was a good price or not, but the fact is he was able to do the repairs right then and there. He also explained where the longer term issues are with the system (27 years old), and explained the advantages of a replacement. He said he would have a project manager call with an estimate. I explained that we would also be checking with two other Angie's List approved vendors, as well as checking references. His only comment was that we check similarly rated vendors that work with Lennox equipment. So, all in all, I feel that I got what I paid for by a qualified and well mannered technician. p.s. - I am glad that I did not have the experiences that Nancy K. and Camille M. had last year, but honestly, it was a good reminder to check recent references of any vendor before making decisions to upgrade major household systems. read more

Jason V came to the house, on time, and was awesome! Not only did he perform the required service, he took the time to show me how it worked, and how to most efficiently use it. For the past 16 years I have used ARS to service my heating, air conditioning, and hot water heater. I have done their yearly tune ups with out fail and without issue up until 2 years ago, but honestly back then it wasn't as much of an issue until now. Three weeks ago ARS called me about a prepaid heating tune up. I told the lady that called me that I was pretty sure I hadn't had a prepaid tuneup, but she assured me that I had one. So fast forward to yesterday. They come and do the service and say that the heat exchanger has an issue and it's either time to replace it or the whole system. The heat exchanger was a $1800 job and to replace the system was like $5,500-$7500. Now this is where things flow into the issue before. They had come out 2 years ago to service my AC said it needed to be replaced. Both systems before that point have always been running correctly with no issues. The AC I decided to wait until it died, and 2 years later it's still running without issues. So this time I decided to call them to figure out why after years of no issues at all did both systems suddenly come up as being needed to be replaced. Long story short after speaking to a manager I was told. "We didn't tell you you have to replace it, it's just old and it's recommended to replace it", and I guess while that is true I'm still left sitting here wondering why I should spend over $5500 to replace a system which has worked fine for years, has no issues, and the only thing wrong with it is a heat exchanger which the tech, couldn't even tell if it was cracked or not just that the flame was a weird color. And when I mentioned that I was going to have someone else look at the system they responded "why would you do that the system is working fine." Then the kicker is about 30 minutes later ARS called back saying there was a clerical error on the appointment. It wasn't prepaid, and how would I like to pay for it. Then Linda at ARS did call me to apologize for the whole ordeal after this review. The clerical error was indeed a clerical error, which they're not holding me responsible for. Seems that when your a prepaid customer for a long time and then you skipped a prepaid things slip through the cracks, which I'm hoping in the future they will fix in the future. They offered a free tune up in the spring to give them another shot. Which I decided to do. Went to schedule the free tuneup I was promised for the spring, and ended up speaking with Linda again, long story short their notes on the conversation in December seemed to be disorganized, and I was told I already got my free tune up. Too bad. So either their record keeping is horrible or they were just trying make me happy enough to get me to change their yelp review. Which I guess worked for a while. So I added this update to my review and I guess I will look for someone else to service my heat and ac. Guess the lesson to learn with these people is get everything they promise in writing because their records suck, and at least to me they really are out to scam you of your money, and will promise anything to you to get you to change your review. And as far as the AC that was so near dead 3 years ago that it needed to be replaced soon. Fired up no problem again this year. Figured I'd add another update to this review. Had another company take a look at the furnace this year. Surprise surprise. It's working at 100%. read more

Took advantage of their heater (HVAC) tune up offer/coupon and I'm glad I did. I have a very old electric system and lately, the electric bills have been through the roof and the HVAC was a major suspect. First, the technician (Matt) was on-time and courteous. Second, he was able to figure out what our issue was...beyond the tune-up. Third, he was thorough with his explanations and when he didn't have an answer, he called for one. Finally, he provided good insight on my existing system. In all, a very good experience. It's no wonder they're also rated very well on Angie's List. I would definitely consider them if and when I decide to replace my antiquated HVAC system. read more
