They are showing Ben Perkins stuff right now and while it's big it fits the space fine. Really strong, dynamic and interesting work. The gentleman that was there was very approachable. He was also very knowledgeable and supportive of this artist that was being shown. We were wondering about a piece and it seemed to have sold at a very reasonable price. As the person (owner?) stated, that's how you get the art out to folks.. make it affordable, this helps the general audiences to share it more if you can hang it on your walls at home, and spread it around quicker. Looks like they are going to have a "group" showing coming up so we might just pop on in again and see what else jumps out at us.

We booked the party package for my daughter's birthday. Eight kids painting. Several adults there to supervise, because that's how children's birthday parties work. Right as we were finishing setup -- gifts on the table, kids getting settled -- the manager came out to inform us we'd be charged extra for the adults. Adults who were not painting. Adults who were there to keep nine-year-olds from losing their minds. She framed it as "being flexible." I didn't find it flexible. I found it to be a surprise charge sprung at the worst possible moment, dressed up as a favor. When I pushed back, she told me "it's on our website." It is -- and it says painters. I was too busy managing a birthday party to pull up the page on the spot, but I checked afterward. She was wrong. The policy covers up to 12 painters. We had 8. The adults weren't painting, weren't taking up painting stations, and weren't costing the studio anything -- they were buying snacks and drinks and helping keep nine-year-olds in their seats so the staff didn't have to. We were good business. The kids had a great time. The manager made sure I didn't.

Glazed small bowls for $15. Beautiful mugs, vases, all affordably priced. Great stocking stuffers! I had to run to an appointment but I'm actually going back tomorrow to pick up more gifts. The proprietor is a former ballet dancer, her husband is former set designer, and they make all of this wonderful art. I love supporting local business and the conversation with her was so endearing to me. A wonderful visit. Highly recommend!!

We dropped into Side Door Ceramic Gallery on a drizzly Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, during a…read morelong walk up and down Alberta. It was small and lovely, a shop as well as a studio, run, as far as I could tell, by the ceramic artists. There was woman spinning a potter's wheel when we walked in, with a sweet little dog, recently rescued, napping at her feet. She was friendly and welcoming, and we chatted with her while we browsed. The ceramics were gorgeous--rich colors, pleasing shapes. I liked every piece in the shop. The prices were reasonable, and I was tempted to buy more than I could realistically carry back home to L.A. After a lot of hemming and hawing, and reminding myself that I never use mugs, I bought two deep blue cups that I plan to use as succulent pots. If you're looking for some beautiful handmade ceramics, check out Side Door. It's worth a visit even if you don't buy anything. The goods are nice to look at, and there's a cute dog who might appreciate a few gentle pets.

A white woman had taken shelter in the gallery, and conspired with staff to call the cops on this woman. It showed great ignorance and disrespect to invite the police into a space where Black people were present and where black art is supposed to be uplifted. Do better to look after your Black patrons, and keep cops out of art spaces.

I would warn folks that it is very tight navigating in places-- I am petite and still felt a little claustrophobic. A lot of that is likely the crowds on sale day, but isles are narrow and there are a few places where you can get "trapped" if other customers don't see you standing behind. I absolutely love stationary, and this place scratched my letter-writing itch. I ended up picking out a couple of sets of cards + envelopes to add to my collection. These are BEAUTIFUL and well made. Prices were reasonable, and the clearance items were an absolute steal. The staff were super friendly and attentive and they seemed to be doing a good job keeping everything in order even though there were a lot of people here.
