Red snapper ceviche @whaevaeats
Eva O.

Perfect brunch spot in Dogpatch to enjoy the sun in San Francisco! O R D E R E D · Lomo Saltado · Red Snapper Ceviche · Empanadas [chicken and cheese] · Pao De Quejo · Yucca Fries · Fried Plantain Chips · Mango Orange Agua Fresca [OH MY GOD - THE BEST!] V E R D I C T You can't go wrong with anything here, everything from the minute you walk-in to the minute your food arrives is so colorful and vibrant! I love their outdoor patio area - perfect to catch some vitamin-d and if it's too sunny, they have umbrellas for some shade. I literally wanted to order everything from their menu because Peruvian food is one of my favorites, but since it was lunch time, I didn't want to go overboard so I ordered the following listed above. We can drink their mango orange all day long! It was so refreshing and flavorful and now I want another one just thinking about it. The lomo is so tender and its the staple item at any Peruvian restaurant so I had to order it to try for myself. I can never say no to ceviche, esp the red snapper as I'm a bigger fan of white fish. The appetizers and sides all hit the spot. Their menu introduces flavorful vegetarian dishes and most items on the menu are GLUTEN-FREE. Parking on the weekend is pretty easy and convenient right on the main street, you can even walk here if it's sunny enough. It's so close to the Warriors Chase Center / Mission Bay, just 1/2 mile south.

Tried this Peruvian spot and really enjoyed our meals!!! The prices are pretty fair (some more fair than others LOL). For example, the Pollo Sandwich (which was delicious!! such juicy chicken and great slaw) was the same price as the artesano salad (which was good but came with no main protein). You can add protein to the salad but it brings the total to over $20 which makes it not worth it. You're better off getting salad at a salad spot or ordering something else on the menu. The Lomo Saltado was delicious!! The meat was so tender and juicy. The plate overall can get kind of salty but it tasted similar to what I had in Peru. We all had an amazing experience here!! Don't forget to use the yelp check in for a discount Will def come here again!

Shrimp Anticuchos and Empanadas
Amee T.

My favorite lunch spot! When I first found this place I used to eat here once a week! I've tried just about everything but my go-to dishes are the Shrimp Anticuchos and the empanadas. I love that you can mix and match the empanadas and I also love that the food is consistent. It has the same delicious flavor every time. The staff here is so nice and welcoming and the ambiance is so relaxing. On a side note, I've also bought three plants from here and they are literally thriving.

** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I know I've seen this Brazilian spot in the shopping center on California in Laurel Heights and was meaning to try it. My flimsy excuse was that I associate Brazilian cuisine with a whole lotta meat rotating on a spit, which I know was not a fair observation, but hey, I have to live with my global culinary ignorance. It's just that I had no idea it would take a pandemic to provide me with the impetus, but maybe that was a blessing in disguise. That's because I feel like I could now come here with a palpable sense of confidence that I'll get a good meal here now that I've had their food delivered to my home. I went for two dishes that showed off their elan. The first was the $13.99 Chopped Salad, a hearty mix of organic greens, romaine, cherry tomatoes, an avocado half, corn, black beans, red onions, and for Latin-style crunch, plantain chips, with ranch dressing on the side (photo: https://bit.ly/3nYQBst). Just what I wanted with the tropical backbeat in full check. For my entree, I ordered the $16.99 Chicken Artesano, a couple of meaty chicken thighs marinated in garlic and oregano accompanied by sofrito black beans and organic red quinoa (photo: https://bit.ly/2X8blSR). It was true comfort food, and a nice surprise was the organic green salad with house vinaigrette that came with the chicken (photo: https://bit.ly/34WKygn). That was quite a bit of food, but what I really appreciated was the flexibility of healthy options. FOOD - 4 stars...salad and chicken served in healthy, hearty portions AMBIANCE - n/a...probably nice in their space but for now, just delivery for me SERVICE - 4 stars...liked the way they packaged the food, and it was on time TOTAL - 4 stars...Brazilian food is more than a lotta meat RELATED - Interested in Latin food? Un-Pulled Pork
Lisa X.

Artesano is one of my husband's favorite eateries. He introduced it to me by way of the unpulled pork a few years ago. Since then, we have dined there numerous times. Recently, we tried to dine al fresco here after running errands nearby. But we ended up eating the meals back at home because it was a lot more comfortable. We ordered the unpulled pork and the chicken skewers. While I really liked the unpulled pork dish in the past, this time, I found the chicken skewers to be more of my current taste due to the delicious flavors and yummy accompaniments like the plantains and pickled slaw. We have also ordered the Cubano sandwich many times before, always delicious.

Disapponting cubano sandwich
Erik W.

Ordered a cubano with a side of slaw. The pulled pork had very little flavor. The pickles were just cucumbers that might have walked past vinegar but declined to partake. The mustard was yellowish, but tasted like mayo. The bread was warm I guess but not toasted let alone pressed and grilled. The ham and Swiss were inoffensive. The slaw was nearly flavorless--no salt, no acid, just cabbage and other rough chopped veggies with some heat on it. Cashier was very nice. 17 bucks plus tip (plus "upgrade" for the slaw).

Mac n cheese
Kevin Z.

Pretty good Cuban food. Got the chicken sandwich and Mac n cheese. The chicken sandwich had coleslaw in it and a well cooked egg. Very flavorful, though the chicken itself was slightly overcooked and a bit dry. The Mac n cheese tasted like it had some truffle oil in it. The pasta was well cooked and really good. You order at the front and sit down. Will be back.

Veggie Estofado
Anthony G.

My son and I stopped by on our way to a Warriors game. We actually walked past this place because we only saw a sign for Plant Cafe, they share a building. The place is clean and spacious. We went to the cashier and placed our order. I had the Veggie Estofado (v, GF) Rich Peruvian-style stew of green beans, brocolli, yams and gold potatoes, topped with fresh bell pepper, red onions and Peruvian corn, served with sofrito black beans and Brazilian rice. My son had Chancho Braseado Tender Cuban-style braised pork shoulder, finished on the grill with tangy caramelized onions; served with Peruvian tacu tacu (seared rice and beans), grilled corn on the cob and organic mixed greens. We also ordered Pao De Quejo (GF) House-made toasted cheese popovers, crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside, absolutely delicious and baked fresh in 15 minutes. My son enjoyed his Chancho plate and although Veggie Estofado was tasty, it was served lukewarm, disappointing. My black beans were unseasoned, but they did offer me salt and pepper. I did not use either, thinking it would be seasoned. The Pao De Quejo were uniquely tasty, my son nailed it, he said they tasted like fresh baked cheez its.

Empanadas - so delicious

The good points are about the service and the food itself. Everybody is super friendly and accommodating, and the wine pours are fantastic. Opt for the Malbec from Argentina and the Cabernet from California if you drink wine. We started with the amazing empanadas. I got the chicken flavored and the beef flavored. The chicken flavor was divine with the yellow Peruvian sauce. It's always such a delight to have that sauce. I ended up with the Lomo Saltado, one of the best Lomo Saltado's I've ever had. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the peppers and onions were delicious with the soy sauce glaze and rice. My husband got the Chancho Braseado, a Cuban-style dish with corn and beans. It was really good! First time I've had it. Be forewarned that this place is pricy! I don't think it deserves five stars because while the food is excellent, they need to develop a better ambiance than just a coffee shop by day with couches and light wooden tables by night. I understand it's in the Plant coffee shop, but they need to upgrade their furniture for fine dining; everything looks like mismatched Ikea. We will be back for sure, but I hope the prices go down or the furniture is upgraded.

Empanadas
Allyson L.

3.5 stars There were many tables available at around 5 PM on a Saturday night. We sat at a booth near the entrance. The hostess was really nice. I love Peruvian food, so I was excited to try this place. We ordered the beef empanadas, chicken skewers, lomo saltado, and had plantain chips to go. The beef empanadas and chicken skewers came out first. They were good, but not worth getting again. They each cost $9 and I don't think it was enough food for $9. I did like the plantains that came with the chicken skewers. The chicken skewers were kind of dry and slightly burnt. The empanadas were okay, but not much to it. The lomo saltado was delicious! It was a pretty good portion size for $18, when other places charge it for more. I would definitely get this again! The plantain chips were good and the sauces they give with them were interesting. The mango salsa was interesting. It seems like they make the sauces themselves. Anyways, I would come back for their entrees and skip the appetizers.

Chicken Artesano looks pretty but it sure is bland.
Tracey A.

After posting a photo of my Chicken Artesano with a tagline mentioning its blandness a fellow yelper familiar with the restaurant and the area remarked "the curse of Laurel Village". Though Artesano bills itself as "Latin American Comfort Food" not all of us find bland food comforting. My personal idea of Latin American comfort food happens to involve a boatload of salsa and peppers. So Artesano and I have a different view of comfort and though their offerings are attractive, they're too bland for my taste. Chicken Artesano required a heap of hot sauce to be interesting and, if it hadn't been so pricey ($15) to begin with, I'd have purchased fresh salsa to top it as opposed to the bottled tabletop stuff. Artesano is a place I'd not set out to eat at but might wind up at by default. The menu is large, the environment casual (order at counter) but pleasant, and the food isn't bad, it's just not satisfying to my taste buds. I know people who love comfort food and can't handle the spicy stuff; if you're one of them this might be for you.

We decided to order à la carte so we could choose all of our favorites. Overall, everything was absolutely delicious, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The price is expensive though and the service was quite slow as the restaurant got very busy. My favorite dish was their signature Gran Bandeja Cebichera, a chilled seafood platter featuring ceviche, crab topped with purple sweet potato purée, charcoal-seared nigiri, sashimi, octopus, and jumbo prawns. Every bite was fresh and vibrant, and the variety of sauces created a wonderful balance of bright citrus, natural sweetness, and umami. It was layered, refreshing, and full of flavor. Among the hot dishes, I especially loved the whole charcoal-grilled cauliflower, served with eggplant purée, crispy garlic chips, and a sweet pepper sauce. It had a beautifully charred exterior while remaining tender inside, with an amazing smoky aroma. If you enjoy cocktails, their Pisco Sour is a must-try. As Peru's most iconic cocktail, it strikes a perfect balance between sweet and tart, making it crisp, and refreshing.

The equally balanced forkfuls with steak, onion, tomatoes and fries were divine. Unfortunately, they were a bit skimpy on the beef since the balanced forkfuls ended quickly and then there were a lot of fry heavy bites. With no planning, we showed up at Pacifico, which was just a couple blocks from our concert. The restaurant was a little weird - it sits within the lobby of the SF Jazz recital hall, and all the signs are for "B-Side". It's a little unclear to me still whether the restaurant is called B-Side or Pacifico, but the waiter told us that Pacifico is new, with a new chef and new menu. The inspirations are Colombia, Peru, and California cooking, which was very appealing to us. We ordered two items off the specials menu (Tuna Tostada and Short Rib) and one from the permanent menu (Hearts of Palm Ceviche). The Tuna Tostada was both of our favorite. It was light, refreshing, and there were these little pops of flavor from burnt, deeply fried jalapeños. The Hearts of Palm ceviche was interesting and unique (a completely vegetarian dish, but made in the style of ceviche and with leche de tigre). Ultimately, it was more interesting than appetizing. Finally, the Short Rib was well cooked, but unfortunately just way too sweet for our palate.
