My good friend, Ana, aka Smitty, invited me to dinner at Mi Lindo Peru on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and without blinking, I was so totally down - I love me some Peruvian food! Offering a rich array of traditional Peruvian dishes, Mi Lindo Peru is a celebrated restaurant known for its vibrant flavours and generous portions. The establishment has become a favourite of go-to spots among locals and visitors alike for an authentic taste of Peru in San Francisco. Located in Bernal Heights, parking can be challenging in this bustling area. Luckily, we arrived around 6:30 PM, so I was able to find a space across the street, less than a block away. Truth be told, though - I did drive around the neighbourhood about 1.5 times before scoring a spot. The brightly lit dining room's ambiance is casual, unfussy and welcoming. Only one table was occupied and no other customers arrived to dine in during our visit. We sat at the half booth table at the very front, adjacent to the entrance. On this evening, the spacious venue was clean; however, a small stack of empty white plastic buckets at the foyer floor stuck out to me like an eye sore. Along with our menus, we were served a complimentary basket of two slices of soft, white bread, a ramekin each of a single ball of soft butter and a non-spicy red salsa. Below are what we ordered: Chicha Morada (Glass, $4.95) - Ana ordered this beverage for me, insisting that I try a Peruvian drink. She described this sweet purple corn juice as a Peruvian Kool-Aid. Her description was pretty spot on. Just a bit too sweet for me, but nonetheless refreshing. Aji de Gallina ($22.95) - I have always been curious about this classic Peruvian creamy stew, so was stoked that Smitty said that she was ordering it. YUM!! I need to order this next time! Lomo a lo Pobre ($28.95) - "A lo pobre" translates to "poor man's style" in Spanish and refers to the simple addition of a fried egg, fried plantains and/or rice and french fries to traditional Peruvian dishes to add another level of tastiness. I'm a big fan of Lomo Saltado, but jumped on this option with the added plaintain and perfectly fried egg. I was conservative and had the egg yolk ooze over the white rice (I could tell that the rice was steaming hot because the yolk began to cook once I sat the egg atop it). I immediately regretted that move, kicking myself for missing out on exploring the added flavour from breaking the egg over the meat, veggies and french fries medley. Next time, for sure! Despite the slight tough texture of the lean strips of meat, my meal was still delicious and enjoyable. Service was friendly and fast. I was taken aback when the check was delivered sans asking us if we were interested in dessert, though,...especially because I was so looking forward to a sweet finale with Alfajores. We inquired, but, sadly, they were out of the dulce de leche cookies due to their popularity during Valentine's Day weekend. The cookie monster in me was SUPER bummed. I initially thought that they had no inventory of postres (dessert) since they didn't offer any at first, but turned out that they did, indeed, still had offerings. We decided to pass on the sweet course. So delighted I was to be introduced to Mi Lindo Peru by mi querida amiga. I would happily return to continue the delectable culinary journey here that highlights the essence of Peru.

A classic Peruvian food restaurant. Not fancy but the food makes up for that. Located in the outer part of the Mission, tucked away in between residential buildings this restaurant knows how to cook authentic Peruvian dishes. Service was quick and servers very attentive. Not too pricey like other Peruvian restaurants and food portions of food are served. Every bite is worth the $.

I waned to order some Peruvian food from the restaurant I ordered from before on GrubHub, but that restaurant (El Porteno) did not show up as an option. So I decided to give Mi Lindo Peru a try. I ordered 3 items : Yucca a la Huancaina ($10.95), Lomo Saltado ($23.95) and Aji de Gallina ($20.95). Lomo Saltado is always my go to dish to get at any Peruvian restaurant. The Yucca a la Huancaina is very good. It has just the right hardness on the outside and soft on the inside. Some other restaurants make these rock hard that are too hard to bite into. This comes with a mild creamy cheese dipping sauce. The Lomo Saltado is made with a good amount of tender beef. Have had this dish at other restaurants where they skimped on the beef and what little there was very tough. The Lomo Saltado at Mi Lindo Peru is flavorful and tender. Love mixing the juices into the rice. Would definitely get this dish again. The Aji de Gallina was also tasty, and is a good pick for anyone who doesn't like spicy food. It comes in plenty of sauce that is perfect for mixing into the rice. Portions are good for the price. These 3 were plenty for 2, with leftovers for the next day. On a different day, I tried their Ceviche de Pescado ($25.95). Portions were surprisingly generous and way bigger than I expected. I liked the tartness of this dish from the lime.

Came a Friday night with a friend around 7PM and the spot wasn't super busy. We were able to get a table immediately, and were in and out in around an hour and a half. Ordered the yucca a la Huancaina as an appetizer and it was very good. The yucca was fried to perfection, crispy outside and soft on the inside. It was accompanied by a sauce based on butter and garlic with a touch of spicy that complemented the yucca very nicely. For the meal, I ordered the lomo saltado a lo pobre. I asked if the egg could be over hard (which is unusual), and they were very attentive to detailed, so I appreciate that it came as ordered. The white rice did come with corn, which I like, but it's something to keep in mind if you don't like that as it's not disclosed on the menu. The actual lomo was very tasty, the meat was juicy and soft. Overall, would highly recommend. The sever was very attentive and friendly, and the food was very good. Important to highlight that this is a family friendly spot.

Was craving Peruvian food and had heard so many great things about this place, so I decided to give it a try and ordered through Postmates. My order arrived in about 40 minutes, still warm and fresh, which is always a good sign! I went with the Lomo Saltado, and wow... it did not disappoint. I've had plenty of Lomo Saltados before, and many places tend to overload the fries while skimping on the protein. Not here! This dish was packed with tender, flavorful beef, perfectly cooked vegetables, and just the right amount of fries to balance it all out. The portion size was very generous....you can tell they don't hold back. I even got a fresh piece of bread on the side, which was a nice surprise. I also tried the Chicharrón de Calamares, and it was equally delicious. The calamari was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and seasoned just right. Again, generous portions and plenty of protein which I really appreciate. From start to finish, the food was flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. Portion sizes are excellent, the quality is spot-on, and everything arrived warm and ready to enjoy. This is definitely going to be my go-to spot whenever I'm craving Peruvian food. Next time I'm planning to try it in person to experience the full atmosphere. Highly recommend!

    Jalea

I'm sorry price for value is not justified here. I love jalea, it is an item I order often at Peruvian restaurants and have gotten here before. I will not return for this. It is essentially $30 for overcooked. calamari. There are 4 small shrimp, 1piece of fish, a big pile of calamari. I can get much better prepared calamari at a nice Italian restaurant for less.

8/9/24 Loved every dish here, the workers are nice and the owner was very friendly. Portion size is huge and should be shared Chicharron Al ajo ($16) - comes topped with a lot of garlic and with a lemon sauce that I'd come back for Lomo a lo pobre ($26) - huge portion with lots of meat. Flavor was a little light but eat it with the sauce from the seafood dish Picante de mariscos ($27) - lots of seafood in a slightly spicy sauce. Really good Peruvian ice cream - very creamy and tastes like caramel

This was a delicious spot for Peruvian food! The atmosphere is family owned cozy, and we ordered the Lomo a lo pobre, yucca a la huancaina, and from their weekend special menu choros ala chalaca (mussels). The lomo was yummy and paired with all the other food was enough for two. The cassava fries were HOT and fresh and had a tasty sauce. The mussels were yummy and had a very limey sharp topping, similar to a ceviche. Don't forget to try the Chicha Morada (purple corn juice) if you're feeling adventurous and want to try a new drink! So delicious, we shared the half liter but could've had a full.

Came here for lunch with friends. They raved about the restaurant so I let them order. Everything we had was fantastic and authentic tasting. I even enjoyed my sangria. It wasn't iced down like most restaurants do. We had a dish with steak and fries and onions. It was delicious. Even the bread was good with butter and a spicy sauce we put on it. We also had a cilantro rice with Chicken. My husband hates cilantro but he enjoyed this rice dish and it was so flavorful. We also had a dish that looked like paella but was actually a seafood rice. I loved it. The last dish was a spaghetti dish with chicken. Very flavorful and tasty. All in all - very nice restaurant. Service was on

This place was recommended by a coworker and since we were in town we decided to give it a try. I am glad we decided to give it a try because it did not disappoint. The workers were amazing and welcoming. The restaurant was clean and the decor was nice. Parking was a bit difficult to find, but we expected this from San Francisco. The bread and sauce given at the beginning were delicious. I could not get enough and wanted more. The Lomo saltado needed a bit more seasoning, but it was still good. The pescado sudado was very good that I finished it all. The portions were great and I would be definitely be coming back when in the area.

I'm content with the food. Been recommended this place when I wanted to try Peruvian food. As time went by other places have popped up but Mi Lindo Peru seems like a classic for the city. The service was on point and always attentive and the whole staff was nice. They refilled our waters and check on us often but not overdoing it. We started with ceviche mixto and a papa rellena. The ceviche was so good with a burst of flavour. The lemon juice itself was so comforting and yum. I felt like I needed avocado but that's fine. Love the banana chips, corn pops, the chunks of potatoes on the side. The papa rellena was so savouriy and not greasy at all. Add ají Amarillo to it if you want it spicy. As for drinks, we went for the chicha morada. The purple drink. Perfect amount of spices and refreshing. Lomo a lo pobre was an abundant portion of almost everything. Fried plantains, rice with kernels, and the beef with tomatoes and onions. The sauce is really the star of the show. The fried runny on top was a nice touch and totally fulfilling. I'll come back with a friend or family memeber to introduce them to Peruvian cuisine. A pisco sour would be nice

Fortunately for us, El Dorado was conveniently located a block away from Moscone South (yes, I had my eye on the restaurant ahead of time and had made a reservation). The first night, Jorge greeted us warmly and walked us through the menu. The restaurant's vibe is neighborhood casual, though still appropriate for a date night or nice family outing. We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so we ordered the ceviche trio, the empanada sampler, and the pescado frito, which is a pan-seared red snapper entree. For dessert, we had the churros and mango mousse cake. Everything was delicious, and our favorites were the original ceviche, the veggie empanada, the fish, and the mango mousse cake. For drinks, we ordered the chicha morada and pisco sour - both refreshing and yummy! Jorge was also our server, and service was excellent throughout dinner. We enjoyed everything so much and joked about dining here again tomorrow. Pretty sure Jorge did not take us seriously! The second night rolled around, and I couldn't stop thinking about the veggie empanada and pisco sour... so we dined at El Dorado once more! We did not have a reservation this time, and thankfully the restaurant had a couple of open tables. We told the host (not Jorge; sorry, I forgot your name!) we had dined with them last night, and he chuckled. Pretty sure he thought we were kidding! This time our server was Ayduri, who was very sweet and attentive as well. We got a full order of the veggie empanada, the shrimp causa (kind of like a tart potato salad with shrimp), the churrasco entree, and their seafood pasta special. For dessert, the chocolate cake. Another chicha and a maracuya (passionfruit) sour this time. All the items delivered - especially the churrasco, which came perfectly medium rare, just like we requested. And, to our pleasant surprise, the dessert was on the house, because we dined there twice in a row! All in all, El Dorado is a gem in SOMA. Granted, I do not venture into SOMA often, so my palate only knows so much. But I'm confident you'll find something to love here. And chances are we'll be back again the next time we're in the city.

We have eaten ceviche throughout the city and just keep thinking that there's nothing better than La Mar out there. Everything including the Limeno ceviche, Nikkei, Creole toradito, the planchaza and calamari is fantastic! We couldn't get over how delicious the seafood was! The sizzling seafood platter is just amazing! I wish the chips were bigger. They were too tiny to scoop up ceviche. Also, our server mentioned that they stopped serving plantain chips. We didn't mind that and went for the ceviche directly. I'm still thinking of the tart abr balanced flavors of the freshest seafood in citrus marinations. Such beautiful and elegant creations! The charring on the seafood? Perfect! The flavors? Robust burst of flavors and no blandness! Loved every bite! How delicious was the shrimp cocktail? It was tart and so well balanced with umami and the jumbo shrimp and chopped seafood tasted Delicious! We love ceviche so don't mind the tartness. For our first visit, we chose to sit on the other side of the patio and the views of the water were phenomenal. I also tried the plantains which were cooked perfectly; not too mushy with a perfect char, and the sweet onions on top were also tasty. Paired with a very tangy dipping sauce. All the flavors came together well. My husband ordered the Cantina burger which he enjoyed down to the last bite. Our daughter also sampled off the smaller menu with Lomo Empanadas and the Chicharron de Pollo which she reported were both very nicely prepared. Will, our server gave us excellent recommendations which we availed ourselves of. The bill for 4 items plus the burger, a side of rice, and a ginger beer came to just under seventy dollars, which was a reasonable price. I would definitely give the food five stars, and the restaurant four as it's a long and lengthy bar with a few tables for two. The majority of the seating is in the back with two flat screens and an open kitchen. I can imagine how loud this place can get. We went at the perfect time: not a lot of customers so we received excellent individualized service from Will. I would hope to be able to return next time we visit GG Park and sample some more menu items like the Peruvian Paella which sounded very promising.

Overall, it's difficult to tell the full capability of a service team when you come in with a larger group so I cannot fully fault them. However, the food and drinks were delicious, I left with a full belly and an allergic reaction free wife. I would come back here again but possibly with a few less people than 12. FYI- bring a jacket!!

Looking back on it now, it's kind of funny how I was somewhat hesitant to try Franco's Latin Table…read morethe first time my buddy suggested meeting up here. However, in my defense, he only referred to this place as "that Peruvian joint in West Portal" and I was still under the impression this was still Fresca's, which I had been underwhelmed by. However, once I realized they weren't one in the same, I definitely felt a bit more excited, especially given his strong recommendation. Although, it should be said that Franco's actually isn't all that different, though, it's definitely better! Inside, a lot about this place looks the same as when it was Fresca's - both good and bad. While the restaurant's decor and feel is still just as relaxed and cozy, it's also rather dated and worn, as evidenced by the strips of tape holding the booth cushions together. As for the menu, it's pretty similar as well, though, not as exclusively Peruvian, which isn't a bad thing. While the bulk of it is still made up of classic Peruvian dishes, like ceviches, empanadas, lomo saltado, and causas, it also has items like tostadas, pupusas, and birria tacos that originate from other Latin cuisines. Regardless of where they're from, though, there's no shortage of enticing options to choose from! -- EMPANADAS DE VEGETALES - Portobello Mushrooms, Chocio, Quinoa, Onions, and Bell Peppers Stewed in Aji Amarillo Cream Sauce...$12 I only tried a bit of this one, but it was really good. The empanada was golden brown and not at all doughy while the filling was so flavorful. I really like how there was a fair amount of mushrooms in it and the rest of the veggies weren't overcooked/mealy. -- YUCA FRITA with Aji Verde...$8 Funny enough, eating this reminded me that I should really get this more often! The batter was thin yet crispy and I liked how they tasted slightly earthy (in a good way). Plus, despite being a bit dense, they also had a nice sort of creaminess. -- BIRRIA TACOS - Slowly Stewed Beef with Dried Chiles and Spices, Melted Cheese, Cilantro, and a side of Consomme...$22 Not that I expected it to be bad, but it was a lot tastier than I thought it was going to be. Each taco was crispy, loaded with with tender chunks of beef, and had so much gooey cheese in them. Plus, while it wasn't even needed, the consomme was rich, tangy, and smoky - so good! -- TOTOPOS CON CHILE - Homemade Tortilla Chips Tossed in a Chile de Arbol Salsa Topped With Cojita Cheese, Crema, and Lime...$9 This essentially felt like eating the chips and salsa in a chilaquiles, but better. The chile de arbol salsa was super flavorful and I loved how crunchy the chips were, even towards the bottom. I just wish this had a bit more crema and cojita cheese in it. -- CHICHARON DE POLLO - Crispy Fried Chicken, Aji Amarillo, Salsa Criolla, and Five Spice Mayo...$12 I was cautiously optimistic for this dish, but, thankfully, it turned out great! The batter on the chicken wasn't too heavy and the meat itself was moist (not juicy, but moist). Plus, I lreally liked the pickled onions and the mayo dipping sauce, too. -- PESCADO & PAPAS - "Fish & Chips" Hand dipped in "Cuzquena" Beer Batter, Coleslaw, Handcut French Fries, and Huacatay Tartar Sauce...$24 I've had this twice and while it was great the first time, it was closer to "okay" the second. Both times, the fries were fine (a bit potato-y) and the fish itself was good, but this last time, while the batter was crispy on the outside, it was rather wet and soggy on the inside. -- ARROZ CON MARISCOS - Clams, Mussels, Shrimp, Calamari, Scallops, and Fish with Aji Panca Rice, Cilantro, Green Peas, Peppers, and Salsa Criolla...$32 They may not have paella like how Fresca did, but no matter - this is actually better. The rice was really soft and I love how it soaked up all of the seafood flavors in the dish. The chunks of salmon, mussels, and scallops were probably my favorites, but all of the seafood was fresh. Beyond the food, the service here has been mostly fine, other than one minor hiccup. Every time, the workers have all been friendly and I appreciate how they have been more than happy to answer any of the questions we've had. However, there was one time where one of the servers tried to take away our Totopos Con Chile even though we still had a few pieces left of it. Also, there was a stretch during our meal where it felt like we had been forgotten about, but, to be fair, I imagine it was more due to them trying to sort out what the large party next to us had ordered than anything else. Even though my more recent experience with their Pescado & Papas may not have gone nearly as well as the first, it doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of everything else I've tried has been more than solid. Given that as well as how I'm curious to try their brunch menu and some of their other offerings, it's more than a safe bet that I'll be coming back to Franco's again sooner rather than later!
