I've been going for 10 years. I wish reasonable tickets were easier to find, but it's not the stadium's fault. This is place is truly a beauty. The atmosphere can get very electric, especially on a night match. Never a bad experience here. Even with wind (and no jacket); or when getting let into the oh-so-posh courtside seating one minute and then prevented from returning after a brief rain delay the next, or when waiting on line to use the restrooms (or get an over-priced concession); or when my butt hurts so bad from sitting in the crappy little plastic seat all day long; or when my phone claims to have wifi and 5 bars but can't load anything. The views of NYC and the World's Fair Park from the top of the stadium are excellent; the people-watching is awesome fun (fans of over-heard conversations will go nuts!); and I've never been without a drink. I went to 4 rounds of the US Open this year and I just think this complex is the bees' knees. I love the village set up with all the concessions and shops and I think that the grounds are just lovely. There is no bottle necking, even at the public transportation traffic moves nicely along. There are plenty of places to sit and ample shade from rain and sun. The staff is friendly and understands English (unlike other stadiums in the area). read more

My first US Open was yesterday. It was supposed to be a clobbering of Samantha Stoser by Serena Williams. Key word in that sentence is "supposed to be", which implies a hypothetical event. Driving there, I told my wife that we really need to rush from NJ, since by the time we get there, I'm afraid the match will be over----Williams will have had won 6-0, 6-0. By now, as you know, the match is history---Williams lost 6-2, 6-3. But, alas, we're here to review the stadium, not talk about tennis finals. From the point you get there till you leave, I found the staff well organized. Parking, especially in the case of the US Opens finals, was hard to find, but the staff directs you. Lines are long, but moves efficiently. Now of course the view from the stadium. We were in the upper promenade. Granted, I couldn't see the sweat dripping off their faces, but I certainly was able to see the players quite well. There's really no impeding view, regardless of where you're sitting on the main stadium, unlike venues like the Garden, where there are strategically misplaced poles. You'll also find the atmosphere quite different as well---more of a refined audience, then say a Knicks or Jets game. I almost felt as if I needed to have tea and crumpets to complement the environment. Only downside are the prices---certainly not a surprise. $5 sodas, and equally expensive bottles of water. Bring your own snacks and water. read more

Of course Arthur Ashe is the best stadium, but man, if you have seats in the nose bleeds, it's like walking a couple miles to get there. I thought it would never end! Fortunately you pass a lot of small eateries so you can stop for sustenance along the way. Just be prepared to shell out 3X as much as you should pay. I haven't experienced Ashe from the middle and probably never will from the really low seats, but the vantage point from being in one of the top rows allows you to really take in how big the biggest stadium in tennis is. read more

I somewhat recently went to these tennis grounds for the U.S. women's 2015 semifinals. I was so impressed on how clear everything was. The grounds are beautiful. You can tell that there is a lot of love and care put into this venue to keep it in as great of condition as it is. I will definitely be heading here for another match next year! read more

This stadium is just awesome - large, impressive, easily accessible on a subway station. We've been going here for the last 8-9 years and every time have a great experience. For the evening matches which sometime last longer and past midnight, the queue at the subway stop is so huge and have to wait for a long time. We had gone the daytime quarterfinals and had a chance to see Nadal's match - it was raining that day but with the new retractable roof in place, it was just so cool with light filtering down the rood too. There are large video screens in the stadium to watch throughout. In between the sets they display the fans cheering and having fun and its so cool - the multiple activities going on in the stadium. The stadium seats are generally comfortable - you pay more for good seats and views as in any other game. They also have a fan experience area where they have booths where you can play and they will record it. The food court outside is huge - many options, expensive but a decent variety available. Also this year we found out that parking for Mercedes is free as they were one of the sponsors. We didn't have to pay for our parking - cool feature again. Tennis fans will love watching the game here - the whole experience will make then return every year. read more

I came here to watch and experience the us open with the kids. They had a great area for kids to play and experience tennis. Although they didn't quite enjoy the match itself, there was plenty of activities for them to also have fun! Overall a very satisfying experience. Very nice stadium with lots of courts and food options. The facilities are clean, but prepare to walk a ton of stairs if you are heading to the main court. The views from the top of the main court are amazing and you can still see the court when sitting very high up. Food prices are a bit steep, but that is to be expected. Tip: If you use your AMEX card and check in through foursquare you will get $10 back when you spend $20 in one place. Good to know when getting that dessert crepe along with the rest of your meal! :) read more

For reasons that escape me people seem to think reviewing Ashe stadium means review the US Open. To me a review of Ashe stadium means a review of Ashe stadium. If, like me, you believe the closer you are to the court to watch a tennis match the better then Ashe is by a wide margin the worst stadium court in all of tennis. I've sat in every section of Ashe numerous times: courtside sideline and baseline, corp box level 1 and 2, lodge, lower and upper promenade. Believe me Ashe sucks (relative to almost any other stadium court in tennis). Anything not double digit on your ticket (which is I would guess 80% of the seats) are above the corporate boxes (themselves no great vantage point) and too far for as far as I'm concerned for good tennis watching. The courtside seats due to the horizontal structure are also pushed way off the court. Not good. That said, the USO itself is still among the great events in tennis (and one of the world's foremost sporting events). 1-star for Ashe Stadium. 5-stars for the USO. Try out the Grandstand court next year. It's one of the best courts in all of tennis so, of course, they are taking it (and Armstrong stadium) down after 2016 or 2017, I believe. Avoid Ashe completely during week one where only the casual and clueless fan sits a mile up to watch Fed or Djokovic thrash some victim. The fun is happening on the outer courts where you can watch from a few feet away, which is where tennis watching is at its best. read more

I think this is the biggest tennis venue in the world although I'm not positive about that. It has a little more than 20,000 seats and you get a pretty good view even from the way up top seats. I personally like to see matches on the smaller courts with open seating but this is a good place to see some of top players as well as later rounds. The only other tennis venues I've been to are Wimbledon (which is much smaller and pretty different) and the UCLA tennis courts (which are pretty big for a university but obviously tiny compared to this) and Ashe and the Billie Jean King tennis center as a whole definitely have a unique atmosphere. I recommend going to at least one US Open if you live in the area, even if you aren't that into tennis. It's a fun experience and I like the third and fourth rounds where you can still see competitive matches but also have multiple courts to choose from. This court will be even better once the retractable roof is installed and there won't be the usual rain delays that happen every year (I think it's scheduled to be ready for the 2018 tournament but I'm not sure). read more

The seats get very steep if you're up in the top section, but it's a great NYC experience to take in. US Open, best sporting event in NYC in my opinion. Arthur Ashe Stadium and surrounding grounds are well done. Great drink and food options. Watch the game inside the stadium, or, if lazy go outside and watch the game on one of many large TV screens outside and enjoy the grounds. Easy to get to from Manhattan on the infamous John Rocker 7 train but worth the trip out. Also plenty of parking and they run shuttle buses from the main area to parking lots. So many games happening on different courts, but it is an experience to remember. Arthur Ashe Stadium is the most electrifying Stadium or spot to watch a tennis match. The problem is that after 2010 or so, the prices started increasing, and a $20 ticket for the cheapest seat became a $60 ticket or so, pricing out real fans. The stadium itself is gorgeous, the grounds now have Jack Daniels locations where you can sit and have a few drinks, Ashe Stadium has a few club levels with different tiers depending on ticket prices where celebrities sit often to avoid hassle. Everywhere you look now on the grounds of the tennis center, you seem to find new bars, restaurants, or gift shops. Ashe stadium I believe has a bunch of clubs and restaurants behind the scenes so that the rich ticketholders can relax, the only problem is, they are not in their seats and most likely are watching on screens in a climate-controlled club. Last year I think you could pay $400 per ticket for a lower level ticket to an early-round match at Ashe, and had the option of paying an additional $400 for your own private chef assigned to you. My point is, this is a far cry from the old Ashe of say 2000 or even 2010 when none of these options existed. The fans are overall quieter in recent years as the rowdy die-hard fans are now mostly priced out of the stadium or access to it. Still a great stadium, just overall too many clubs, restaurants, beer and hard liquor options, and private suites that detract from what people are there to do, watch tennis. I think there are a lot less people ACTUALLY IN THEIR SEATS throughout the matches than ever before, too many other options to eat or drink or gift shops etc. Security getting in has become somewhat of a nightmare with metal detectors and delays getting in, but it is only once a year for 2 weeks, so that is not that big of an issue read more

This was a great experience to go to the 2012 US Open tennis Championship in Flushing, NY. I have always wanted to do this and went with my boyfriend. We had a great time and parked in the street. That is a plus. Saw two great matches. The food at this place was ok yet there were lines for everything. As this place is huge and everyone went. Nice views and the stadium is small so no matter where you sat you had a good view. Not too expensive and a great thing to do with a bunch of friends. Will go again next year. read more

She was very aggressive and confrontational, to the point of threatening to fight all because we just wanted a quick picture of the court.not the way I wanted to end my day.watch out for those aggressive employees. read more

what a mess. the admission process to the US OPEN is a disaster. People in blue yelling 5 inches from your face that you can't bring a backpack in, you must check it for $5- they don't tell you where to check it or how that even works. BTW I saw tons of backpacks and other large bags getting through. We drop our bag off and proceed to go in the main gate only to be REDIRECTED to the south gate entrance- probably 2 miles away from the entrance right in front of us. We walked forever, imagine how annoyed we are at this point. Got to Ashe and the NOISE in the stadium is ridiculous. I might as well be at a social event not a professional tennis match. once we figured out that our ticket got us access to all the other courts- no where is this mentioned or indicated on the ticket- we had a MUCH better time watching the other matches outside of Ashe. We had no idea there were plenty of food options because we came in the backside of the venue, nor did we know if we showed out amex card we would get a free audio device. I could go on but i'll stop, I just wish the customer service aspect of this event actually serviced customers, not yelling at you and treating you like garbage. I paid $150 for 2 tickets, I should expect to receive some basic courtesy. its like the open is too cool for itself these days. read more

Really nice stadium and area to just walk around in especially on a nice day. Service here was impeccable...I was in the second level suites and the view was phenomenal. Food here was about 3.5/4 stars. The lobster rolls that arrived were cold and a bit hard so I felt like I was eating freezer food. This morning I purchased my tickets for this years US Open. I have been attending matches at Arthur Ashe since 1999 and have to admit that it is the perfect way to finish off the summer. Over the years I have been there to see many of the greats of tennis. I always attend the Sunday before Labor Day (the midway point) and get to see seasoned pro's as well as the up and coming players. The grounds are beautiful. Every year they do more to improve the experience for the fans. I noticed they are working on the dome for Ashe Stadium. There are several food vendors and restaurants to choose from. Before settling down to a match we usually have a bite to eat, and then enjoy walking around checking out who is playing or warming up on the outer courts. I cannot wait for September! read more

About 1/3 of the seats in Ashe stadium are too far away from the court to see the action well. the place is just too big. Unless you have a close-up (and expensive seat--and they are largely "sold out" before they go on sale to the general public) seat, you will barely be able to see what is happening. read more

My husband and I are avid tennis fans. It has always been a bucket list item for us to attend a grand slam event. Yesterday we attended the U.S. Open in NY. Good things first: our hotel, the Essex House provided a low cost shuttle to the event, brilliant. Entry to the event ran very smoothly, cheerful, helpful staff made sure that everyone was admitted quickly. Once in, we found a lot of eating choices that all seemed to be run efficiently. The match we saw was breathtakingly exciting, Nadal vs Pouille, 4 hours, 5 sets with Rafa losing in a tiebreaker. On to what we didn't like, the cost of tickets, we spent over $1,000 for 2 Loge level seats, outrageous for round 4! The venue, Arthur Ashe Stadium is in dire need of a rehab, pretty crummy for a stadium that hosts a major event. We go to the BNP Paribas in Indian Wells every year and the difference in venues is startling. The Tennis Garden wins hands down. Now to the final and most important flaw, leaving the match. It was truly one of the most frightening experiences of my life. As the match ran late, the evening crowd had already arrived. Some genius (?) official made the decision to close the main entry for exiting and 22,000 attendees were herded down one narrow stairwell. I am shocked that no one was injured, perhaps they were and I'm just not aware. Additionally, not ONE staff member was in sight to enforce crowd control. It was very, very scary and I'm positive in violation of every possible fire and safety code. If anyone was hurt, I encourage them to file a lawsuit! I would not attend this event again, Wimbledon next time! read more
