The First time I came here, I looked around and was asked what I was looking for. Upon telling the associate I had never fired a handgun before, I signed up for the Groupon class. Upon starting the class we got to the point where we were dry-firing the guns in the classroom, as it was my turn to demonstrate proper knowledge, I went ahead and began the drill. As soon as I got up and waited to be told to pull back the hammer, the instructor starts yelling at me. Honestly screaming was more like it as yelling would have been an understatement. Confused and dumbfounded, I gave him the gun back. He starts screaming at how impatient I am and this and that, and then asks me if I was paying attention. He even proceeds to tell me, "one more strike"(he only gives two apparently) and he was going to personally "kick me out". I stayed quiet as the psychological mindset these people possess comes down to no one cares about their opinion in the real world, so when they're teaching at the gun range, it's the only time someone listens and they have to be "right" and it's better for the sake of the argument you stay "wrong". He asks me, what the third rule he gave us. I honestly, did not know as I never recalled him giving us "rules" other than the safety aspect, but ok I'll play along. "Your stance is wrong", I told you to square up against the target, he then scolds me on how I must watch too much Law and Order. First hand, I came here to LEARN. Second, my feet were misplaced, sure, but that does not constitute a safety factor nor is it really the end of the world, because as any logical person in real life knows, you're not going to "square up" and be able to assume a target practice position in your house in the middle of the night as you're walking down the stair case. Third, don't ever threaten to kick me out, especially since I did not put anyone in harm. I assumed the shooting stance was the same as the one you use with a shotgun, I was wrong, but the point was I did not need to be berated, embarrassed and humiliated because the instructor had complexion and self-esteem issues. He began to apologize shortly after we left the shooting range before we went home, and we talked for a few minutes, but still left me feeling very angry as I went drove home as I came for someone to teach me and fix any mistakes. On a separate note, the customer service here is absolutely non-exsistant. I have been in here on five separate occasions, trying to genuinely like the place, but simply could not. For example, the eighteen year old girl who works here(straight brat) was asked by a middle-age gentleman how much a certain item from a bin cost. She responded with "oH I DON'T KNOW, WHY DON'T YOU READ THE SIGN". All of the workers act like this, the attitude amongst the entire store is unbelievable. I've honestly thought if this place had it's own show on T.V., it would light up the network ratings like no other! It is genuinely comical to just listen to the conversation that goes on in this place! Imagine a rude, sarcastic, and dry Seth Rogen as your cashier, except almost all of them behave this way even amongst themselves! It's like an Ed Debevic's except the entire time, you feel their hatred and scorn. Ha my rant is over, I truly already feel better and in mind, have now gotten the final laugh. read more

Standing water on the floor to the point where you could see it splashed up on rounds that went low. Water actively leaking through the ceiling because it was raining. Couldn't even use the full length of my Lane. Employees always seemed put out to do their job. It's more like a club for the employees. read more

This range doesnt deserve even one star. A waste of money and time. And the WORST range I have ever been too by far. Being a frequent range vistor I cannot believe how the patrons and staff acted towards us. It was down right appalling service after 20 minutes we finally were allowed to be registered. Which was a ridiculous process in itself. Poor organization, poor ventillation within the range. Staff had no idea what lanes were avaliable when and whether or not they were already occupied. Our lane was stolen when we went to switch shooters. Patrons were acting inappropriately and unsafely with their personal weapons without a staff member intervening,taking photos like they are rambo, as well not clearing their own spent cartriages down range. Staff was more unprofessional then I had ever dealt with. I was yelled at for having my weapon in a holster even though i was not using the holster as anything nore then a carrying case (which is legal as the weapon was not loaded). People were shooting across lanes to hit other peoples target and laughed like it was a joke. They took out my target holder as well. All in all a horrible experience DO NOT GO HERE. Only reason I give it one star is because its required and I did enjoy see my friends there. We had a group of about 14 people that met after work. Room/ range 4 was designated for us. The range, viewing room, and classroom were all blocked off for our group. Each person in our group brought anywhere from 3-6 guns each, taking turns with each others guns. Now about the range. The target tracks were either slower than molasses uphill or broken completely and they offered no cardboard backing. We were blamed for shooting the wall when we clearly didn't, using a laser and I have video to prove it. I wish I got his name but the range office even said at one point "you're liable to get shot!". This was after a couple times of him threatening to use the "Glock he was carrying". All after walking a shotgun that was on safety and muzzle pointed at the ceiling from the viewing room to the range. It would have been nice to inform us of the wrong doing Without threatening to shoot us. The place is a Sh*thole and I will never step foot in there again. Shoot somewhere where the equipment is well mainted i.e. tracks work, filters changed and most importantly the employees are welcoming of customers coming to spend money in your establishment.....Like RKA in Plano! read more

We came in on Friday night around 9:10-9:15 looking to shoot our own guns and try a rental for 30-40 mins. Despite the website saying the range is open until 10pm (and the voicemail saying the range closes 5 minutes before close) we were told the range closed 30 minutes before closing, which would be 9:30, and seemed odd to us. Still thinking it might be worth it to test the gun we were thinking about buying in the near future for 15 mins or so, the person behind the counter sighed and said "that's gonna take forever". So we decided to leave and spend our money elsewhere. Midwest Guns in Lyons will be getting our business in the future. read more

If I can put a negative 5 star (-5), I would. Wasted my my time. Here's what happened, I called in the morning to get information, I called twice. The first time I called I forgot to ask his name. I am from out of state, I asked the person if I can shoot, he said I can, he gave me the info about out of state shooter, I can shoot but cant buy or rent ammo. I also asked if I could bring my three other siblings so they can experience how to fire, he said I can as long as theres a range officer that I can pay 25 an hour. None of my brothers have current FOID. So to make it short I can shoot, bring my brothers, as long as we have pay someone $25 for thebrange officer. I asked if its ok to just walked in today he said its fine, but not in the afternoon...between 2 to 4 or after. So that call ended. I called a couple minutes later and spoke to Carl to ask if theres military discount, he said yes, free for active and discounted for all other military retirees...I thanked him....Carl was nice..I asked if I need to make an appointment, he said no as long as before 2..... I asked again if ok to come in soon to shoot, he said yes no problem, and inform him again of the same information. So with all the information I have, myself and my brothers left for the range. We got there and spoke to an older man, didnt ask for his name, he told the same information as the first person I spoke too on the phone, spoke to Carl too. Both gentleman was nice, but they told me I cant fire and cant sponsor.....I can but just me and use my own ammo....so I left and thanked both gentleman......but then I remember that the first person I spoke said we can fire as long as we have range officer that I can pay $25 an hour.. so I went back and spoke with a skinny bald gentleman.....he talked to me with an attitude and gave me different information about the fees for a range officer.....seem like trying to intimidate me....he said its $50......this may sound overreacting but I felt discrimanated and misinformed. I live in california, been to many range, and have stricter laws about guns. But never experience something like this.Thats my experience. read more

I have not experienced the poor attitude of people working there like some of the individuals say, its a gun range, not a fancy dinner so they need to be strict on how they handle and talk about weapons. However, that place needs some work, poor ventilation indeed! Heard one of their employees got lead poisoning cleaning the back of the range. Also, it is so crowded and not enough room to shoot, you get the feeling of claustrophobia and the dividing walls can def. let some bullets through by neighboring noob so thats a safety factor for me. For first timers, sure give it a try, but you wont see me as a regular there. There is a reason why they have groupons. I just spoke to the manager who was extremely rude and unprofessional so I ended up calling Groupon right away to cancel my purchase. I think people should avoid this place at all cost as I'm sure their are other places out there that actually know how to treat customers with respect. To put it simply. The staff at this shop/range have a propensity for rudeness. In particular the folks that operate the range side of the business. I observed this not only in reference to myself, but especially also to other customers. The range itself want bad, and the shop has a fairly large selection. They seem to have a particularly large selection of AR accessories though this didn't interest me. This shop seems to cater to the gun-nut/survivalist/gun-activist camp, less so to the purely recreational shooter. read more

I was at the range today and to my dismay, I overheard employees talking about the ATF being at the range. From the sounds of the employees it is not good. If you have guns on consignment or in a locker there it might be a good idea to make sure they are safe. read more

01/25/15. I just made reservation for first visit to range. The reviews I've read have been mixed. I've been to GATT and JR's and have had positive experiences. I'll post again 01/31/15 after my visit. 01/31/15. Just returned from first visit. Was greeted by two guys in their 30's. Both were pleasant and directed my wife and me to Dino who would sign us in for rental and range. I had read about a guy lie Dino before my visit so I was not shocked when his less than friendly attitude presented itself. I thought to myself that I would try to win him over with kindness, which sounded backwards as I was the customer. I had our ID's at the ready along with a short list of pistols that I wanted to rent with the intent to efficiently get to the range. He seemed a little incompetent working the computer which was used for the sign-in process. I wouldn't think someone in his service position would purposely be rude, but who knows. I don't remember exactly what he said but appeared to use sarcasm as if to be demeaning. The time we spent with him was just odd. Two words to describe Dino: old and crotchety. My guess is he must own the place. Our experience improved significantly when one of the first guys that I met, 30's, dark hair came over to help us with the rental. He was kind, knowledgable did not make us feel like a burden when we asked some questions. This man completed a post-Dino service recovery and we were off to the range. After firing off a box I brought the cz75 back to the rental area and requested to switch it out for a walther ppq. Dino was there and looked less excited to fulfill my request. He took the cz and asked me where it goes in the display case...true story. He spent a minute or so acting annoyed and finally just found an empty spot for it. Lucky for me I knew where the ppq was located so I did not have to spend more time than necessary with this poor excuse for an employee. He then proceeded to ask me for 6.00 for the switch-out fee. I saw the other guy that helped me earlier and quickly asked him if I was already charged this. He explained this to Dino and I went back to range to finish our session. The range was busy, but we had a reservation and did not have to wait. No issues to report. Dino was there to accept my rental return. He had no interest in asking what we thought about the rentals or if we were in the market to buy. This seemed like a missed opportunity for Article 2; you have a customer that rents two pistols, why not engage him in some conversation and explore a possible sale. As we were leaving I think he may have grunted when I said thank you, but that was about it and we were out the door. read more

came here twice and the service seems decent.. havnt came across a bad attitude employee yet like what that other reviews on here said.. this is also the place where i registered for my foid card.. its10 dollars more here vs you doing it online.. its for their service fee.. the lanes are quite dirty with empty ammos everywhere on the floor and counter.. also its pretty dark.. someone should really clean it up before someone slip on a ammo and hurt themself.. other then the dirty and dark lanes.. this place is not bad to get some practice in.. read more

The poor reviews may make you leery but they aren't correct. The staff was friendly and accommodating and happy to answer questions and make you feel comfortable. This place has been one hundred percent a plus for me. My husband and I started out at novice shooters there. People who complain about walking TEN FEET across the street to a adjacent parking lot or people who complain about waiting for a spot shouldn't be allowed to write reviews. That is an unrelated complaint to the actual business! The air is clear and the lanes are working great and the STAFF is great ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW THEM! First off....Why should a GUN SHOP with people who have outside firearms entering the business with serious firearms be trusted as anything but some strange folks who walk in off street and nothing more? If I worked in this serious of an environment where you'd be trusting anyone who walks through the door with a weapon and then figure you then immediately decide they don't be trusted completely by LOOKING at them would you be nice as hell when they can kill you if they are one of the loose canons? Of course the first reaction of the employees should be questionable to the customers!!! I don't doubt the cold first response! For gods sakes this is serious shit! Sorry about my choice of words but really? if you think this is a joke...YOU SHOULDN'T own a gun! Anyway, once they know u r not a nut job they are SOOOOO SUPER EXPERIENCED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE THAT I HAVE NO QUESTION THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! Great first time at Article II range guys super friendly we walked past the Foid sign in at the gun counter (it was our first time there). The range office advised us where to go sign it, They let you split the cost of the lane other ranges just charge you twice and put you on the same stall. Anyway super friendly liked my toy.. I want to warn anyone purchasing a Groupon for the Shooting range package for two people to seriously think twice before spending your money. I wanted to schedule a time online, as per the directions on the Groupon certificate and could not do so without providing my credit card information. This is a scam! They should not need your credit card information for anything since your Groupon is already paid for. When I called Article II directly to schedule, they said they would not do a telephone schedule and only accept an online schedule. I expressed my desire to NOT provide credit card information to them, since they had no right to this information, as I was not purchasing anything from them. My Groupon was bought and paid for, for the services they were supposed to provide. Article II told me they would not accept a phone appointment and I could only schedule online with providing credit card information to them. I am in the process of filing a complaint with Groupon and will be sure to get my money back and take by freedoms elsewhere. Michele I. read more

I have been going to this place for about 4-5 months now. At first they were very nice and helpful. even more so when i mentioned I was new to handguns and willing to learn. but the past 3 months i have received nothing but rudeness, .. good example is when i ask for range time and a rental the person helping me huff's like it is a pain in the back to walk 8 feet to the rental display table to get a gun. Then after have both have gone over checking the gun for safety they still feel more then happy to show their frustration of having me sign a piece of paper and paying.. I have been in retail and customer service long enough to know showing your disgust of helping people is not how to keep them. And that is exactly what they just did. I have been to other ranges which continue to offer helpful and polite support and workmanship with their customers, not to mention much much cleaner ranges. I purchased a gun and Art. 2 took delivery for me after 45.00 fee. When I opened the box, everything was out of wrapping. When I got the gun home I noticed 3 dirty chambers. When I called to said what I had found the gut told me that's what you get for not getting the gun from us. I asked if they could order me the gun, they said no, it would take possibly 6 months or more to get. That's when I found it 2 days later elsewhere. I got a Groupon for me and my 60 year old (VERY hip mom) for Mothers Day. We are a very unconventional mother and daughter :) Now I've held a gun and had a short safety lesson from an Ex Fiance. My mom hadn't held or fired a gun in over 20 years. We got there and the staff was super friendly. They got our IDs and Matt was our instructor. He was very helpful, insightful, and funny. I plan on getting my FOID Card and then taking my class for Conceal Carry and he was a sweetheart explaining things. And he made us laugh as well. When we went to shoot..I volunteered to go first. He was helpful and very encouraging. He gave me pointers throughout and at one point I just felt overwhelmed and he calmed me down and I was ready to go again. I did an OK job lol. He told me for my first job I did very well. I am thinking of purchasing another Groupon for my girlfriend and I. And I will surely go to them for my Conceal Carry Class and to purchase my first gun. When I first got my FOID and started visiting gun shops, this quickly became my go to place. I interacted with almost every employee over that time and had great experiences every single time. They were always patient and knowledgeable and always gave me an honest opinion. Time after time I found myself just hanging out and talking to different employees, not shopping, not shooting, but just hanging out, like I worked there or something. Every one was so easy going and talked to you like an old friend. This place is a gem. You don't find businesses like this very often anymore, where when you walk in you know their first name and they know you. I just realized it sounds like Cheers. The range is awesome. They have a ton of lanes ( i think something like 25) and the staff does an UNBELIEVABLE job with getting everyone taken care of. On the weekends they are packed with people and wait time is almost nothing. It isn't the cleanest or fanciest range, and the gun shop selection isn't the biggest, but they make up for it all and then some with their staff. Kudos to everyone working there! read more

My daughter asked to shoot a gun for a Christmas present, saw a Groupon so I got it. A little busy but instructor was good we were able to shoot 2 different caliber guns. Went a second time with my son and daughter also purchased Groupon went very well. Our instructor Josh N was freakin awesome not only did he have a great sense of humor he made class VERY enjoyable. It was my first time out on a range and even though I was anxious at first the instructor was very helpful and I learned a lot. this place's guns for rent are horrible, even though the gun was checked with no bullet inside, it still fired somehow. we brought bullets there and half of the bullets got stuck n the gun, which first of all is a waste of money, and second of all, is just complete bullshit; the bullets gets stuck in the gun, some of the bullets are completely useless. not to mention the service, the man there thinks that everything is our fault. I've never hated a place like this one ever in my life, or will i ever think i will do it. this is the shittiest shooting range I've been at, so if you wanna have some fun, i highly recommend you to stay away from this place. read more

I went because this is one of the few places allow rental of the Sccy handgun. I was originally not a fan because some of the staff is rude when they talk to you on the phone and they seem very aggressive over the phone. Oh boy does that change when you walk in the shop though.
