Fantastic gun shop that's only 20 minutes from downtown chicago. This shop has a new owner (Eric) who took over about 18 months ago. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and experts when working with new and experienced gun owners alike. Range is busy, but I've never had to wait on any day that I've come in to shoot (weekends included in my statements). I'm a woman in my 20's living in Chicago. Despite my hobbyist/entry level interest, my opportunities to shoot have seemed few and far between. Part of that is because it can be a bit intimidating entering this kind of environment while you're still building up your confidence. Until I found Shore Galleries! I've been to ranges where asking questions is treated as ignorance rather than a desire to learn. I had the opposite experience here. Upon passing off my FOID card and while filling out my waiver, the gentleman behind the counter managed to strike up a conversation and had us chatting like old buddies in just a few minutes long interaction. I immediately felt welcome and at ease. My friend and I came in on a Sunday afternoon and after browsing the downstairs shop for a few minutes, we were given a stall in the upstairs range. The range is smaller than some others I've been to, and plenty of other patrons wandered in and out while we were there, but it wasn't overly crowded and we didn't have to wait. A full hour in the range and 6 targets purchased ran us a very reasonable $50 for the two of us to share a lane. They have a solid variety available for rent, though we brought our own equipment so I can't speak to pricing on rentals or ammo. There are no ranges in Chicago proper, but from Lakeview to Lincoln Wood the trek felt very reasonable and well worth the short drive! I will definitely be returning here, and am so excited that I found a place I can comfortably learn, practice, and grow. read more

I recently completed the Intro to Handgun course at Shore Galleries and couldn't be happier with the experience. The instructors were patient, detail-oriented, and made sure I felt completely comfortable as someone brand new to firearms. By the end of the session, I had the knowledge and confidence to head into the range on my own. I feel much more confident as a gun owner after my experiences with Shore Galleries. I was nervous to purchase my first firearm for multiple reasons including lack of exposure to guns, being a woman, and being black. When I arrived to the shop, I was greeted warmly and given 1:1 attention, in the same way it appeared other customers received. The salesman did not try to pressure me into a purchase, was willing to answer questions related to my internet research, and ultimately made me feel comfortable enough to buy one on the spot. He explained the full purchase process including background checks and what to expect on pickup. He also explained what accessories were nice to have and which were needs. I had already signed up for the Intro to Handgun course and was delighted to have my own weapon by the time the course rolled around the next week. The course was well worth the money. There was a 2 to 1 instructor student ratio. Both seemed very knowledgeable about and experienced with multiple firearms, laws in IL and other states and reinforced safety at every step. When we were at the range, they took time to explain and troubleshoot mishaps in real time. They also took us from just aiming and shooting to more fluid movements. They charge 75 dollars for an FFL transfer for this reason alone you should STAY AWAY. I've been here over 6 times and almost every time I witnessed a staffer be rude to customers. JUST AVOID THIS PLACE! My first experience with the staff was not a pleasant one! Unnecessary aggression I tried to take a picture of the price tag to remember the info and got yelled at like I unholstered my loaded EDC. I ignored it the first time thinking maybe ppl were having a bad day. But the second time I came in to shoot at the range it was the same thing. I got a phone call and I answered it and I was told to leave the store like I was in grade school. Taking a picture ok I get it but answering a phone call I can't understand that. The last straw was I came here to sign up for the renewal for CCW and I paid online. Months before the class took place. I realized that I could have taken the class from another place for a cheaper price and closer to my new apartment. I called to get a refund but they said I couldn't because the instructor would be getting paid from the number of spots in the class. Although the class was months away from starting they simply refused to give me my money back. I tried and called and tried again but every time I was met with a simple no or was given the runaround. I only give reviews if the service is really good and more people need to know about the gem I found, or if it's really bad and I want to warn others to stay away. I still have not received an email about my refund. Just stay away. You would be better off going to Maxon shooters in des plaines. That place is only a few minutes out the city but so much better. read more

I've brought people to the range to shoot....and I get admonished by the staff, saying "what if we had a class going on?" (We wanted 3 lanes and the place was empty.) Then they said, "we'll let you slide this time." What? EVERY time I go in this place it's EMPTY! Honestly, what gall! This place is a dump! It's in horrible condition! Much of the stuff in the lanes is in disrepair. Then why have I gone? It's close... I think that I need to go somewhere else. Besides that, everything they're selling is somewhere between 50% to 100% more expensive than anywhere else. What's worse is, their staff really doesn't know what the heck they're talking about! I don't get all of the bad reviews here. I've taken classes, visited the range, purchased guns and ammo, and use them as a FFL. It's not a place that you just walk into like Walmart. Bought my service weapon here 24 years ago , and came into the store recently to ask about replacing a stock rear sight on a Glock 21 Gen 2 to a newer one. Received 0 help. Would never go back to this gun store again. Not sure if it's a new owner ,but the employees need to be more customer friendly and engaging . I ordered a pistol online from another website because Shore Galleries didn't have the specific pistol that I wanted and needed. I chose Shore Galleries for FFL transfer as it was the nearest gun store in my area. But before I made my decision to pick up my pistol from Shore Galleries, I read some very bad reviews from a lot of customers who had been there. So when I received my notification from them that I needed to check my online order, do a background check and pay for the transfer, I went there right away because I was excited because it was my first gun. As soon as I entered the store, I was greeted by their friendly and courteous staff Nick who was at the register. Then, I was asked by Myles to answer some questions in their computer for the background check and paid the fee. I was told right after that I could take a look around the store and check some cool gadgets they have that I might need for my new pistol. Nick showed me around and eagerly answered all my questions since I was a new gun owner. Dan was very accommodating and rather knowledgeable about everything I needed to know and even pointed out the difference between this-that-and the other. I bought a SIG ROMEO1 PRO to go with my P320 XCompact and Nick said Dan would zero it for me and have it ready when I finally pick up my gun after a 2-day period. I came back three days later to pick up my SIG pistol and Myles assisted me with everything. He asked me if there was anything else I needed. He was very professional and friendly and gave me some pointers and adviced me in some way to become a responsible gun owner. My experience with Shore Galleries was excellent and more than pleasant. I thanked Myles and asked him to thank Nick and Dan for me as well for their excellent customer service. It was very good doing business with them and I would come back to them for my training this August 2021 when I take my vacation from work. I was also considering buying a second handgun directly from their store as I've seen very good handguns they have on display. Later that month, I came back to the store because my pistol was stuck as I cannot cock or decock it. Myles willingly helped me with it and even oiled my gun until it was now ready for the range. Nick was helpful too when assisting me when I was buying ammos and target papers. The range was very nice and clean. When I was finished and almost opened the door and about to take off, Dan called my attention and told me not to leave just yet because they still have my FOID card.
