Came in before 7am from a red eye flight. For our first meal we went simple, hotel restaurant. Why not? We walked to the podium, there was a QR code to look at the menu. There were no prices, but there wasn't a huge urge to go somewhere else at the moment. The host was busy, so we waited at the podium for a few minutes. We were sat right next to the entrance of the kitchen when there were tons of tables open. I don't know why. It was a dirty table and had coffee spills dried on it. We were too tired to fight it. We both ordered a regular American Breakfast plate each. Plus coffee and fresh orange juice. I was impressed with the portions and the orange juice. I couldn't even eat the toast nor finish my scrambled eggs. My orange slice tasted like I was eating an onion. But it was exactly what I was looking for and nothing went to waste. And luckily it didn't because we were charged over $50 for breakfast. Besides the sticker shock, the dirty table, and the poor seating, we had an okay time there. Once we got our food, we never were asked about additional beverages. Also, docking a star because we were not asked about our room number so we never got the "perk" of $10 off each guest when we were charged $20/night for the destination fee we were unaware of. The restaurant is located in the Hyatt. I was staying at this hotel so I decided to not go far for dinner. It was Valentine's Day and they had what looked like a really nice special for a dinner for two. However, it just happened to be me. I asked the waitress which was better, as I was torn between the salmon and chicken. She recommended the chicken. It came with carrots, pearl onions, and lentils. The vegetables were a little too undercooked for me but, the chicken was cooked well and came in a honey glaze sauce that had just a little sweet spice. Since it was Valentine's Day, I figured I would treat myself with dessert. I ordered the flourless chocolate cake. Oh my goodness, the cake was the most decadent piece of greatness I had! I highly recommend it if you are looking for a dessert. I would say the only downside was the service. There were only two waitresses on a fairly busy evening so the wait was a bit longer than I would have liked for ordering and then getting my bill. read more

The burger was prepared exactly as requested, medium. It was flavorful and came open face in case you want to remove anything. The fries were so good and hot. I stayed at this hotel over the weekend and had amazing food every single night. One of the servers daughters went into labor while she was attending us and it was such a beautiful experience because she was so friendly and attentive while answering calls from her daughter checking up on her. It was so beautiful for her to share that with us and we appreciate her even being there. She went above and beyond making sure everything was correct and we all had complicated orders. We also required separate checks because we had to provide receipts to our sponsors individually so that would affect her gratuity, but she didn't mind. We appreciate her being so kind to us and being able to accommodate us during that busy time. The food was 10 out of 10 and I ate it every single night I was there. My daughter and I came here on Labor Day. We had spent the day running all over the city so we were starving and glad the restaurant was open on a holiday. I didn't take pics but it was underwhelming for the price. I get hotel dining is almost always overpriced. I got a Turkey BLT and my husband got the burger. He asked for no onions and no onion mayo with plain mayo on the side. However, he got both a large onion slice and the onion mayo and no plain mayo on the side. Just poor service. A server for another table held an iced tea on such a slant that she poured it from the kitchen almost all the way to the table on the carpeted floor. A third server dumped a creamy dressing (ranch) all over the floor by a third table. No one bothered to clean it up from the carpet. Just really awful. This was after we waited exactly 27 minutes for a burger and BLT. There were meetings here all weekend with no lunch included so they should've had more staff to accommodate. I can't speak to the food here which is a bit weird saying, because I stayed on property. I walked by, through and near this place constantly, but never had a chance to eat the food. What I can speak of is the bar experience. After a long day of conferencing, walking and active listening, I was in need of a little unwind. Not wanting to walk anywhere, I decided to come here with my coworkers to have a few libations. Towards the evening and going into the night the restaurant gives way to a bar. You can mosey on up to the bar itself, or you can sit in the number of spots around. It has a lounge feel with the deep sofas and chairs to sit in. Service is excellent and done with a smile. Drinks orders are filled fast and at one point I had two in hand, which was not my intentions. Great bar/lounger area to unwind at if you are near here, especially if your final destination is just upstairs. read more

I stopped him before he opened it. I had the bacon-wrapped filet mignon. My only regret is that the waiter didn't ask me how I like it prepared... so it came medium. Didn't eat here, and here's why. After standing patiently at the unattended wait station for a few minutes I'm shown to a table in a sparsely populated dining room. No one seems to be in any kind of rush, including my waitperson who never arrived after my 5 minute wait. It's not hard to make a new customer feel welcomed when most other tables are empty. As we approached the Hyatt Regency, where this restaurant is located, I found myself thinking, "Please let the food be good!" You see, we were meeting 4 ladies from Australia for Thanksgiving dinner. I had become online friends with one of the ladies and when I heard that she and her friends would be in town on Thanksgiving day, we agreed to meet up for dinner. I searched on Open Table for a place that was easy to find and reasonably priced---that's how I came across this restaurant. Long story, but Open Table screwed up the reservation and I had to call the restaurant directly to straighten things out. I talked to a very nice employee named Baffa who corrected the reservation. He even called me this week to make sure we were still coming. We had a nice chat---he remembered fixing the reservation and told me he would be working on Thanksgiving and would see us then. When we got there, the ladies were waiting for us. Baffa greeted us, shook our hands and took us to our table. The dinner was done buffet-style. There was a carving station with turkey, ham and prime rib. Plus there was stuffing, mashed potatoes, various vegetables and a salad bar. In addition, two different soups were available. I tried the "Bisque of Delicata Squash with Port Braised Chestnuts" and my husband tried "Chicken Escarole with Toasted Orzo and Pumpkin Seeds". The bisque was ok---pleasant if bland. My husband said the Chicken Escarole soup was too salty. The turkey breast was juicy and flavorful but the gravy was lumpy and bland. The rest of the sides were all decent if not particularly memorable. The dessert station had some of the typical Thanksgiving fare---pecan and pumpkin pie, along with some not so typical fare (chocolate mousse and cupcakes). Again, it was all decent. Our server was efficient but a bit brusque. To sum it up---no one raved about dinner but no one complained either. Considering it was one of the least expensive Thanksgiving buffets in DC ($35 per person), I think we got what we paid for---a decent, filling meal. Plus we all had a great time chatting and that, like the credit card commercial says, is priceless! Next year, if you're looking for a reasonably priced and decent Thanksgiving buffet, you can't go wrong by booking here. Expect to be pleased but not wowed, and you will do fine. read more

Arrived later in the evening and didn't want a heavy meal... Had the crab/shrimp/apple fennel appetizer and decided to venture to the grilled veggie plate... YUM .... I was a bit apprehensive as I like my veggies when grilled cooked but al dente. Perfect! Flavorful! Fresh! The quinoa was loaded with flavor... I asked the server for the secret... Next thing I know .... The head chef was at my table discussing great ways to prepare it! Impressed. Early breakfast was typical for DC ... On the expensive side ... But again ... Good quality ... Really understaffed, ok food, $20 entrees. We were there at 1pm, staying at the Hyatt. Seems like they only had four waiters and we barely saw ours. The floor manager does make himself very visible by enigmatically full arm pointing at tables, like ours, that were waiting for service, although I never actually saw him help his wait staff: bring waters, take plates, or engage patrons. The food was pretty good, but not $20 per entree good. I've seen better hotel restaurants, and they are usually not that great anyways, but not eating here again unless there is another downpour. read more

Description: We often stay at the Hyatt for business and have not chosen to eat at Article One because we were concerned that the restaurant would be a typical hotel coffee shop with average food. However, on this trip we decided to give it a try, as we had heard that the food was quite good. We decided to try lunch and were very surprised to find that we enjoyed our meal and discovered it to be such a positive experience that we had several other meals there during our stay. Location: The restaurant is located in the lobby reception area. As you enter the hotel go down the escalators and it is to the left. The Hyatt hotel is located within walking distance of the Capitol and a couple of blocks from Union Station. Décor: The décor is standard, and nothing notable. But the layout and colors are warm and I found the interior to be comfortable and relaxing. Menu: The menu has a variety of American fare. The food was well prepared and included dishes such as cobb salad, caesar salad, rib eye, hamburgers, salmon, lamb, pork chops, etc. Our favorites included the Breakfast: breakfast buffet, Lunch: cobb salad and vegetable sandwich, Dinner: rib eye and braised brussel sprouts. Wine/Beer/Cocktails/Champagnes: The house wine, Canvas Chardonnay, is a good choice as well as a reasonably priced selection. However, I enjoy a good prosecco or sparkling wine. The only choice was a Toso sparkling wine which was not good. Hopefully, they will change this offering to another selection. Service: The service was excellent, friendly, and very attentive to our needs. Atmosphere: The atmosphere varies depending on how busy the hotel lobby is. Because of its location, the noises travel from the lobby area into the restaurant. At certain times of the day, it can be peaceful and at other times it is busy and noisy. However, they do a good job of buffering some of the lobby noises, given the layout and the design. Final Thoughts: Article One is a good choice and especially, if you are staying at the Hyatt. Not only for the ease and proximity, but also because the food and service are very good. I had the opportunity to eat several meals here during my stay at the Hyatt and was pleased with each meal. The calamari and shrimp appetizer was complimentary due to my check-in on Foursquare. Nice! It was tasty however the portion size wore out its welcome. I was unsure about the picketed ginger but it turned out to be a nice compliment. The butternut squash ravioli were delicious and featured pine nuts, fennel, and quartered figs. Fantastic combination. I could have done without dessert, but why? I put my time in on the hotel elliptical, so I can splurge a little! So I definitely spent way more of my hotel stay at the bar rather than in the restaurant, but I had such a great breakfast experience that I had to share it. I was dining alone, which I guess is more common at hotel restaurants than others. I had the friendliest waiter EVER. It wasn't too busy at the time I was there, so he took the time to give me his suggestions from the menu, ask where I was from and what I was doing in DC -- nothing invasive or annoying, but just a genuinely friendly guy. My stay was a while back, but I remember specifically going up to his boss (after leaving a 30% tip) and complimenting the service I received. But I digress. The important part - the food. I had the BEST pancakes ever, the bacon was cooked perfectly, and my waiter did not skimp on the coffee and OJ refills. Total cost: upwards of $20, before tip, but it was worth every penny. This is between 3 and 4 stars for me. I was staying across the street at The Liaison (hotel) and ate here with a friend. I'll do a standard pros and cons. PROS ~clean ~nice atmosphere even though it's in the lobby of the Hyatt. Didn't feel like it at all. ~food was worth the price ~wait staff was attentive CONS ~none that I can think of except I'm just not from the area and I feel most meals are overpriced. I had butternut squash ravioli with celery puree and a small fig quartered on the plate. Great balance of flavors! I'm not a fan of celery and this was soooo good. The pieces of fig were a great flavor with the ravioli. I also had the heirloom tomato and avocado salad. Slices of flavorful tomato stacked with slices of avocado... drizzled with (I think) a roasted pepper flavored olive oil. Whatever it was.. so fresh and good. Again, great balance of flavors. The setting is basically the huge lobby of the Hyatt but there is enough of a divide between guests and dining space. The seats were very comfortable and not to crowded amongst the other tables. read more

I was staying at the Hyatt Regency for a few days so the Article One location was right in the lobby. The first night we were not sure where to eat. As I was reading the Yelp reviews on Article One I noticed that some posts were one star and others were five stars - I could not figure out how a restaurant could get so many totally opposite reviews. I thought we would give it a try. The first night I ordered the steak with potatos and asparagus which was absolutely TERRIBLE!! At first I thought the steak was bad - as in turned, but after a while, I decided that the steak had probably been frozen, thawed, refrozen and rethawed before it was prepared. I only ate two bites and decided not to eat the rest. The woman at the table next to me said the same thing about her salmon and she sent it back to the kitchen. I swore I woud never go to this restaurant again...but....we went back. I needed a quick dinner and there is really not much around the area that sells salads - we enjoyed the pre-dinner salad from the night before so we thought we would give them another try. Second night - I ordered the Article One salad with grill shrimp. It was absoluley delicious!! So good that I would give this restaurant five stars if this was my only meal there. I don't know if it depends which chef is on duty that night - if it depends on which night of the week you are there. Not sure - this place apparently is totally hit or miss. read more

Restaurant - I found the menu to be unfortunately rather limited. There are few options (if any) for those with specific food limitations, such as vegetarians, picky eaters, those who like plain, simplistic meals and those who do not eat seafood. However, the food they do serve has generally been made very well. When something goes wrong, the staff seems eager to correct the mistake as well. I will note that the breakfast buffet is definitely overpriced for what they serve. On good days, the food is excellent, but there are bad days when everything sits out too long because the hotel's occupancy is low. On those days, the potatoes may be too dry to chew and the fruit looks like it's leftover from a banquet. Room service - Calling to place my order was a pleasant experience. Be specific about what you want though, or there may be some confusion. You may experience problems with food arriving cold, ice cream melting, etc. They apparently struggle with timely delivery. Room service was very receptive when I phoned about the issue however. The server generally arrived with a replacement meal almost immediately. Yes, prices are high, but seemingly standard for the area. Suggestion? If you want a quick, simple bite, especially for breakfast, order from the children's menu. Otherwise, portions are too often too large for my liking anyway. A few regular items can be purchased in half portions as part of the children's menu as well. Overall - I like that their food is prepared with quality ingredients. (Hyatt has made public commitments regarding certain food sources.) I trusted the kitchen to make a reliable meal, or to promptly and courteously correct mistakes made when an error occurred. The servers polite, eager attitudes were appreciated throughout. read more

We had lunch plans in 1 hour and had planned to cash in our AAA complimentary breakfast from our Hyatt Regency stay by just getting some morning caffeine, but could not resist the impressive breakfast buffet spread. For starters, the fruit was awesome - we sampled the sweet honeydew, cantaloupe, pineapple, and pears. In addition to standard breakfast meats, the Chicken Apple Sausage was delicious and the Lox was not too salty. We've stayed at this specific Hyatt twice already because we like the location and of course the hotel. I do remember having the breakfast buffet 3 years ago when we stayed here and recall liking it. Although tonight we ate here out of pure convenience because after the rainy evening watching the Independence fireworks at Capital Hill, it was nice to just stay in. I wasn't impressed with the buffet. I tasted almost everything but nothing was great. It was ok. Ended up just having the salad which wasn't worth the $28 pp cost for the buffet. My husband did not have the buffet. Instead he had the bacon burger with grits and he liked it. Perhaps the menu items are better. Staff is friendly and restaurant is clean. read more

Article One is the hotel lobby bar and restaurant for the Hyatt Regency. A better than average wine selection for a bar such as this. The breakfast buffet was thankfully included as part of our stay due to hotel status because it is quite pricey. The breakfast offerings are standard, nothing to go crazy over...eggs were rather milky but waffles were tasty and the bacon was crisp and extra flavorful. I would give this place 3.5 stars for the food, but the -1 star for the bad service. Came here with a large group (50+ people) with reservations for the whole dining area. They were not well prepared and only only had 2 waitresses who were disorganized, slow, unfriendly, and seemed to hate their jobs. Half our table finished eating before the other half even got food, even though we ordered within 5 minutes of each other. They messed up on simple things like how many glasses of water to bring out. Our large party does not justify spending 20 minutes to swipe a credit card. Even with a group discount the food was pricey (nothing under $9)and only small-medium sized. I tried the chicken avocado quesadilla which was pretty good and hot though I would have preferred a softer tortilla and more flavor in the salsa. The calimari was not bad, especially if you like the sour fancy exotic dipping sauce drizzeled on top. The thin crust pizza also looked pretty good, and was served on top of a wooden platform. Convenient and pretty nice if you are staying in the Hyatt Hotel. Otherwise I would not go out of my way to come to Article One.
