I would give this place 3.5 stars for the food, but the -1 star for the bad service. Came here with a large group (50+ people) with reservations for the whole dining area. They were not well prepared and only only had 2 waitresses who were disorganized, slow, unfriendly, and seemed to hate their jobs. Half our table finished eating before the other half even got food, even though we ordered within 5 minutes of each other. They messed up on simple things like how many glasses of water to bring out. Our large party does not justify spending 20 minutes to swipe a credit card. Even with a group discount the food was pricey (nothing under $9)and only small-medium sized. I tried the chicken avocado quesadilla which was pretty good and hot though I would have preferred a softer tortilla and more flavor in the salsa. The calimari was not bad, especially if you like the sour fancy exotic dipping sauce drizzeled on top. The thin crust pizza also looked pretty good, and was served on top of a wooden platform. Convenient and pretty nice if you are staying in the Hyatt Hotel. Otherwise I would not go out of my way to come to Article One. The breakfast here was actually pretty decent, if not pretty spendy. They had the traditional fare of eggs, bacon and sausage, but when adding things like the smoked salmon and variety of cheeses, it made my morning meal quite nice. The service was impeccable, which is quite a feat at many morning places. I also ordered some room service for breakfast another day, and it was pretty decent, if not a bit expensive. Article One has the singular property that its kitchen stays open until 11PM. That's yuge! Thank you, Article One. I showed up late one evening and ordered a house salad, a Flying Dog Imperial IPA, and a burger, served with corn grits. Corn grits? Well, I had to try some! The salad was A-OK; we're talking Costco-level mixed greens with some sticky sauce. The IPA and burger were excellent. The grits were a bit weird. (I didn't finish them.) All in all, I had a three-star experience. But I had it really, really late at night (for DC). Four stars for Article One! read more

Others have mentioned the pricing, which is higher than similar places I have visited that have served similar dishes. I guess being less than a quarter mile from the Capitol Building tends to affect pricing in the area. That said, the food was very well prepared; it looked great and tasted great too. My only complaint would be that I was still eating my appetizer (delicious Drunken Mussels) when my entree was served to me. The restaurant was only half full, so I do not understand why they did this. That said, the food tasted great and the service was excellent. I tried the duck. The server asked me how I wanted it prepared and it honestly threw me off. He recommended medium which i agreed to. Bad decision. Blood gushed out of the meat with every cut. Article One has a super clever name and is the only restaurant in the Hyatt Regency, providing room service and offering table service across from the check-in desk. The table service was very, very average. The food was the same price for room service or at the restaurant. (Though there are delivery and service fees on top of it for room service.) The gluten free crab fettuccine alfredo is very good, loaded with mushrooms and topped with parmesans. The pistachio-crusted goat cheese salad was also very good, with grapes, fried onions, and warm bacon dressing. The salad is a fairly small portion but not totally insignificant, so it's a good option as its $9 price tag is nothing compared to the $22+ entrees. I tried a couple of the desserts though and found they were all really gross, so get the food if you don't want to leave the hotel, but skip the sweet stuff. read more

It's a hotel restaurant, so you can't have super high expectations. But I guess I had slightly higher expectations than what I received given the price point. I was at a conference and only had an hour for lunch - desperate times call for desperate measures since it wasn't really enough time to walk somewhere and get back, so I opted to order a burger here before heading back into the conference. It was an epic disappointment. The meat wasn't flavorful at all, the bun was soggy, and the fries were limp inedible piles of potato mush. All that for the incredible price of $16!! For a $16 hamburger, I expect it to be pretty outstanding. At least the burger was edible enough that I didn't starve for the second half of the conference. Service was nice, that's the only thing that kept me from a one star on this place. The quesadilla for lunch sounded perfect - not too heavy, not too light. The portion arrived with salsa on the side, seemingly small, without a starch side like chips, or rice. Didn't matter. This fresh, perfectly crisp tortilla wrapped delightfully light and flavorful chicken, ripe and tender avocado and white onion, and small, tasty tomato bits. The salsa it was served with was amazing, leaving me begging for more. I only ask: Why not add fresh, crunchy tortilla chips alongside this simple treasure? It would be mucho gusto! So far we have had the breakfast buffet here. The bacon was pretty good, but the chicken sausage and normal sausage weren't. The waiters were really nice by refilling our drinks like every five minutes. The eggs were decent, but i have had better. The $27 breakfast buffet is sadly on the slide. No fried egg or omelet bar this year. Chicken and waffles was a nice thought, but the chicken was so overdone that it was like jerky. Every day something ran out. One day the salsa near the scrambled eggs, the next day the yogurt and granola cups. We went here for Christmas dinner since most places weren't open near our hotel on Christmas. They had a special Christmas buffet, but it was $57 and I wasn't sure I'd be able to eat $57 worth of food to justify the spend. We ordered the calamari and shrimp app - it was really good. I would highly recommend this item. I got the chicken breast with brussel sprouts. This was very good - the flavors complimented each other nicely and I really enjoyed this meal. I had the Article One pasta and it was really good. The portion size could have fed two people easily. I do think however that they should have removed the tails off of the shrimp as they were mixed in with the pasta. I did originally think the price was a little high but once I saw the portion size I felt a little better about the price. We got to the restaurant as it opened and we were actually the first ones in. Got a cozy corner booth for two and the best Cosmo and Dirty vodka we've had out in a long time. Ordered the drunken mussels, a wedge salad and seafood pasta dish to split and all were very adequate portions, delicious and at temperature. The Waite staff was cordial, attentive and polite. All hail the chefs at Article! I was working a conference at the Hyatt and ate all my meals in the hotel restaurant. Best. Move. Ever!!! Chef Ed and the other two musketeers, Chef Viktor (yummy) and Chef Ryan are not to be missed. The food was decadent and the chefs will come to your table to explain what you are eating and even offer wine suggestions. The lobster mac and cheese has more lobster in it than one you could get at Red Lobster. Each night has a special dish and it is divine. After eating in the restaurant for 3 straight days, Chef Ryan made us a meal that wasn't even on the menu! Best part was his take on a sundae. Lawd...when I tell you it made me want to slap someone, it is the truth. He made us a banana royale with warm cookies, peanut brittle, and a strawberry goodness sauce that makes me want to stalk... this...man. Geez! Come for the food, speak to chefs, they are wonderful and will satisfy your EVERY culinary need! They aren't bad to look at either! read more

We chose this restaurant because of the proximity for our out of town guests' hotel. They required reservations, which I didn't see a need for a Monday night, as it was not busy at all. We were greeted quickly by our server and drinks were delivered. I found it odd that a place that requires reservations and had a decent price point for the menu served canned soda (Pepsi). Maybe that's an unfair judgement. The bread was tasty. Our meals were not impressive. I had the Crab Fettucine which was ok. My husband had the fried chicken and says it was the worst he's ever had. It was basically 2 large chicken tenders, no bone and not breast meat. Dessert was terrible. We had an apple pie with ice cream. The ice cream was decent but the pie was clearly a frozen concoction with minimal taste. The strawberry shortcake cake was dry and small. For a price of $130, not including tip, for 4 (no alcohol) it was completely disappointing. We've had tastier meals at chain restaurants for 1/3 the price. read more

The food was decent but you could tell it had been under the heaters for a while. Service was horrible. We had ordered multiple rounds of beverages and they kept trying to steal our drink menu to the point where we had to almost yell at them to leave it on the table. Bad service overrated and overpriced. I ordered the center cut filet mignon $36.00 med rare an got it raw. Sent it back an about 30 minutes later got my food. The service was horrible. they got it right the second time (on my time again). The bar service was marginal...the bartender seemed to like to be a social butterfly vs. being a server. And as I eat the filet, disappointed...maybe I'm spoiled as I have eaten all over Europe and a majority of the US but this whole experience was lacking. And for u nay sayers that will call me cheap...dropped $120.00 at the bar (between the food and drink) . Bluf: find someplace else to eat. Gave it a second try.... I'm here go a week. Service was better in the lounge part of the bar (not at the bar). Slow service on the food again and this food came cold. I always give a second chance but not a third. I found this restaurant to be like so many others in DC - dismissive waitstaff with overpriced, poorly prepared food. I had a chicken Caesar salad. The chicken clearly had been cooked much earlier in the day and was allowed to sit and dry out. The greens were hot from having the dish sit under a heat lamp before being served. I ordered a gin martini that came out as a vodka martini in a hot, freshly washed glass. After visiting the National Archives, I was pressed to find a place for my very (admit and guilty), picky 10 year old eater. I knew it was a Hotel restaurant, but having stayed at the Hyatt during renovations, I knew the hotel staff is at minimum, very nice professionals. Unfortunately, I did not have the foresight to order the burger off the bar menu, and went with the "kids menu". I ordered medium rare... and my son was served a dry hockey puck between soft bread... I've never seen anyone mess up kraft mac and cheese until then... As for the calamari and rock shrimp - really good bar food. But their rendition of crab cake upon a messy and poorly presented fennel salad, was a downer. Service was so polite and nice about the entire lackluster meal. In a city with SO MANY OPTIONS, unless you are stuck in the hotel - sit at the bar or just walk over to one of the great street trucks the city has. Food was nothing special, definitely not worth that much money. Staff seemed annoyed with every request. The menu online is not the same as the menu at the restaurant, so be warned if something you see here sparks your interest because it might not actually be available. I ordered the skirt steak which came with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Couldn't really understand why a crappy cut of meat cost so much. All of my food was overly salted. Boyfriend wanted crab cakes, but the only options were a crab cake salad or a sandwich so he ordered the sandwich and just deconstructed it. Both tables next to us did the same exact thing. The sandwich did not come with anything else. When he asked for a side of fries, they said they don't do that, even though they have an entire section of sides on the menu. We were very confused by this. When we asked our server for extra sauce for his crab cake, it took 20 minutes before we were able to flag down a different server to get it for us. By the time he got it, his food was cold. Overall, pretty disappointing visit. Article One is located in the Hyatt Hotel and it was a very nice experience. Sectioned off into an open area, it works well at making dining here enjoyable. The atmosphere was perfect for two people who wanted a comfortable evening without the high noise level usually found in open hotel restaurants. While I had the burger and fries, the menu offered a good selection including a salmon topped with cranberry dressing that was good (according to Chantina). After a long day at a march on Washington, my friends who were staying in the Hyatt Regency, asked me to join them for a drink/bite at the hotel restaurant (Article One). Due to the overwhelming crowd of patrons, It took a while to get our food. David Nicola, the Director of Food & Beverage, came over to apologize and he offered to comp our drinks and invited us to enjoy the buffet while we waited on our food. He was extremely gracious and generous. We very much appreciated his attention in light of the crowded restaurant. As a DC native, I will definitely earmark this spot as a go-to destination. The cucumber and tomato side salad was fresh tasting, with a light creamy dressing.
