The food was excellent. Definitely try the Creme Brule it was fantastic. The restaurant is in the Melrose hotel. It will be on the right as you enter the hotel, a bit hard to see.

We enjoyed our breakfast at Jardenea. But more than the food was the service. We felt cared for as we were facing some of the most difficult times in our lives. Our granddaughter was here being treated for a very serious illness, PANDAS, and the employees of the hotel as well as this restaurant went out of their way to comfort us. I will never forget it! I look forward to the day when we can return to enjoy Georgetown and all it has to offer. For now, this hotel was our welcome mat to the city. Thank you!

We arrived at the Melrose Georgetown Hotel later than we anticipated, and we had tickets for something that started in less than 90 minutes. We spoke to Concierge to see if they had any recommendations for a bite to eat and they suggested Jardena because it was located right in the hotel. They were so accommodating... they even had a ride waiting for us as soon as we were done eating. After we explained to our waiter that we were in a bit of a hurry, he was quick in getting everything out to us and his service was impeccable. The bread they served was very good, with three different options for spreading/dipping and the meals were top notch as well. Very flavorful & yummy!! We were so glad that we ate here. On our next visit to DC, we will definitely be back!!

Staying at this hotel and didn't want to go find a restaurant in the hurricane. We got all of the happy hour items. Brussel sprouts were amazing! Chicken wings were good too. I also really loves the orzo lobster Mac and cheese, but it's just orzo.... no noodles. Definitely not the same as Mac and cheese but surprisingly good. Less filling. I was still hungry after sharing all of this so I ordered the bay crab soup. My server also brought me these amazing cheesy rolls without me even asking. It was soooooooooo good! I'm from CA and have a high expectation for seafood. This was amazing. I practically licked the bowl. The rolls were to die for. The pomegranate martini was equally amazing. Not too sweet, which I love. I told friends in the area to pop in for happy hour ($7) drinks and food and that soup!!!!!! Great service too.

Had a work lunch today and very mixed reviews. Soft shell crab appetizer is delicious. Two small crispy soft shell crabs with wilted spinach. I would NOT recommend getting the lobster rolls. They are drenched in mayo to the point I couldn't taste any lobster. The homemade chips were very tasty. There are 3 small sliders and 2 of us ordered it and everyone tried a little, all 6 sliders were picked at but not eaten. They should remove this item from the menu. The service was just so-so. We had a group of 9 people and we were constantly looking for a server for something.

Located inside Melrose Hotel, Jardenea is a well hidden farm-to-table restaurant that is both comfortable and modern at the same time. I was looking for a restaurant that I had not tried before, was within walking distance of the Foggy Bottom metro, and quiet enough where I could talk with my companions and Jardenea definitely fit the bill. Thank you to all of the Yelpers whose rave reviews led me here. As soon as I sat down, our server stopped by with a basket of bread. When the third diner sat down, she stopped by with even more bread. Finally! A restaurant who understands that carbs is the way to a guest's house. The lunch menu is pretty basic: flat breads, salads, sandwiches and pasta. I opted for the un-diet friendly wild salmon with fettucine. The size portion was perfect, the sauce was creamy and fresh, and the fried capers added a great texture. In fact, I am going to start requesting fried capers on EVERYTHING from now on. I never was a fan of regular capers, but this was heaven. My dining partner got the spiced ahi tuna served with grilled pineapple, lettuce and Macademia nuts. The presentation was spectacular but it came out a little bit overcooked. For lunch, it was a pretty solid if not a little bit boring. I'd love to come back for their full dinner menu where they have more exciting options. Also, worker bees: check out their 5,5,5 happy hour with $5 drinks, appetizers, and $5 off dinner entrees.

Cherry Glen Farms Goat Cheese Salad - Shaved Beets and Baby Arugula, Marcona Almonds

3.5 stars (4 stars if only rating the food) Service The service was pretty good, but I felt like our server kept trying to push us to order more... Maybe it was his tone? Maybe it just seemed like he was being really persistent? I don't know. Location/Atmosphere And the location was not great--literally the lobby of the Melrose. We felt the cold draft from the lobby door all night. And for some reason, even though it was almost empty (there probably was no need for us to make a reservation), it was super loud. Either a) all the people that ate there are obnoxious or b) the acoustics were just really bad. I mean, in the middle of our meal there was a huge group of men in business suits chattering loudly as they passed us... And finally the bathroom was all the way outside into the hotel lobby and downstairs. Kinda awkward. The Food Their raisin bread came warm and delicious. Mmm was hard not to eat the basket of them Cherry Glen Farms Goat Cheese Salad with Shaved Beets and Baby Arugula, Marcona Almonds (I declined the Orange Blossom Honey Vinaigrette) - pretty good. The arugula wasn't bitter at all, the beets were cooked just right, and I loved the refreshing presentation (I feel like it's almost always cubed). In this dish they were sliced with the creamy (not too strong) goat cheese smashed between slices. And I love Marcona almonds, which was a great addition to the dish. Pistachio crusted Atlantic Salmon with Braised endive and roasted brussel sprouts - pistachio crusted anything. Gimme gimme gimme!! So... I actually am allergic to orange so I asked for a swap out of the sauce, and I wasn't a huge fan of the onion base that it came on. The salmon was really good though, as were the brussel sprouts and tomatoes. Chef's choice: Chocolate torte-very rich, but pretty delicious. Loved loved loved the hazelnuts. And the creme and chocolate 'wafer' (it was all chocolate) set it all off. I might come back for the food--one of the few restaurant week places where I actually had trouble deciding what I wanted! But honestly, the location isn't great, and the environment itself isn't conducive to a classy sit-down meal at this price... Definitely tell me when the chef goes somewhere else!!

For various reasons, we decided to do thanksgiving out this year versus at home. That was actually tough because so many restaurants were closed for thanksgiving. I ran across this place and was pleasantly surprised that for a restaurant inside a hotel, it was farm to table with great options for everyone in the family. (We were eight, with some vegetarians, some gluten free, some vegan, some didn't care) For thanksgiving they had a traditional turkey plate, but we all ordered off their special menu for the day. I had the crab bisque and the lemon risotto. Others had the salmon, crab cakes, sea bass, and pork tenderloins. So we pretty much covered everything on the menu. The bisque was a little salty, but everyone seemed to enjoy everything on the menu. The staff was attentive (we made reservations, but when we got there we seated ourselves as there does not seem to be a host to receive and sit you) and very nice. They had some very nice cocktails as well. All in all I would say this is a worthwhile place and given that they were open on thanksgiving deserves some credit. I am not sure that this was the A team cooking or serving, given the day, so will need to go back to see how different it is on a regular day. BTW - the hotel was not too shabby.

What a fantastic and comfortable dining experience! We were staying in the hotel and has heard good things about the restaurant but had not tried it! One evening, we had retired to our room early for a nap and woke for a late dinner. We went downstairs and found the staff to be delightfully friendly and accommodating! We were seated immediately and offered an array of appetizers from which we selected the Chilled Peach Soup! What a deliciously refreshing soup for such a hot day. For our entrée, we both selected the Hawaiian Sea Bass. It was light with just the right amount of sweet flavor for a hot summers evening. Enjoy!

The ribeye and New York strip were very good. The butchers steak I got for my son and he didn't really like it, it was lacking flavor. If you do anything when you go, please make sure to get the biscuits. Hands down THE BEST BISCUITS I've ever had lol. They are the most flaky and buttery biscuits, you can count each layer that these have. Pro tip is to ask for butter and the house made jam. The pimento cheese is good with them but it becomes a little too decadent. Overall I'm happy we made the decision to come here, we will be back soon.

The curry itself had a wee bit of spice and was a bit sweet - but that could have been from the sweet potatoes. The chicken was served in a bowl on the side, which felt a bit... odd... We were sat in the solarium area, and it was during the heat dome, and it was really warm in there. Otherwise, though, it's completely charming inside and reminds us of some of the best French bistros we've been to in the country (e.g. Balzathar, Le Supreme). The three cocktails we tried--the frose, le jardin, and the clouseau--were all stunners. And of course the bread deserves another special mention, *especially* the room temperature butter. Thank you for not serving hard as hell butter! We shared the warm shrimp salad to start, and for $31, we were expecting more than a few avocado slices and 4 shrimp on it, but c'est la vie. The dressing was incredible, and the greens were crunchy. That's actually the only dish of the night that we thought was unfairly overpriced. One of us ordered the burger and the other got the rabbit pappardelle--you've got to get rabbit when you see it on a menu, which isn't often enough! There was a good amount of super tender meat and the pasta was perfectly al dente, all in a lightly stunning sauce. Chef's kiss. The burger was, no surprise, another triumph. There was juicy meat, bun integrity, and all the right accouterment notes. The fries are standard. Our daughter got their mac-n-cheese, which is probably just the gratin dish renamed. It was OK. We kind of got out of control for dessert and ordered the pot de creme, the cookie dough ice cream, and the profiteroles. Honestly, these were all good, but nothing that stood out as exemplary as with the savory stuff. Our only major complaint was the service. It was really spotty and while there was a very, very long gap in between when we got our water and then put in our drinks, but our mains came out almost directly after the salad. And the guy was just not very hospitable. Not necessarily a "bad" experience...it just could have been a lot better. On the heartier side, the chicken and waffles were extremely filling thanks to the dense waffles, so definitely a dish to tackle with an appetite. The breakfast sandwich was another highlight: so good that it's now the new standard I'll compare all other breakfast sandwiches to. The smoked salmon bagel was also a fun experience, served deconstructed so you can build each bite exactly how you like it. Overall, Yardbird is a great brunch or lunch spot with a welcoming atmosphere, quality food, and excellent drinks. I'd definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the DC area.

What can one say about YardBird that has probably already been said? Well no matter cause YardBird…read moreis a personal fav of mine! I've been to the DC and the Las Vegas locations and noticed that depending on which location you visit the menu can slightly change a few things. I prefer coming during Brunch hours which runs on the weekend from 10am-4pm. The buttermilk biscuits with honey butter and housemade jam are yummy. And the creme Brule waffles offer a nice sweetness for the sugar crave you might be having. And the fried chicken is to die for. Even has a gluten free option! But my fav brunch item is the gravy train. Which is a bacon, fried chicken, egg, and cheese sandwich SMOTHERED in gravy. This location also is within walking distance from a few metro stops. And there's a parking garage or two nearby in addition to street parking.

When did ice cream cake and your fav meal from mommy not be enough? All jokes aside, this was definitely an experience for my 58 year-mortgage-having- work-everyday-countdown-til-retirement self. Shout out to our top tier bartender, Eddie! My Mom and I were on time so we enjoyed perfectly delicious espresso and dirty martinis while we waited. Our party of 8 had top tier service from Ari and dined on top tier seafood in the midst of top tier elegance. I can't rave enough. (They even bought a round of complimentary bubbly to toast the birthday girl!) Hope you enjoy Proper Bar as much as we did!

My good girlfriend was coming down from Baltimore and wanted to meet up for drinks and light bites…read more She's known for picking trendy, cute spots, so no surprise that we ended up at Proper Bar. A few people kept asking if we were going to Proper on F St or Proper on K St, both sports bars, and up until the day of I thought maybe they were affiliated. That was far from the truth... and honestly, once you walk in, you'll get why Drinks & Food I wasn't planning to drink since I haven't really been drinking lately, but I decided to go for a tequila espresso martini, and I'm glad I did. It was smooth, balanced, and honestly just really good. My friend ordered a Paper Plane, which she loved. For bites, we shared the chicken nuggets with caviar (yes, nuggets and caviar... and yes, they were delicious) and the lemon garlic shrimp, which was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Everything we ordered hit the mark. Prices are about what you'd expect for K Street and the overall vibe. Think $20-$25 cocktails, $20+ appetizers, and $35+ entrees. Portions, both drinks and food, lean on the smaller side, which is probably the only thing that might make you pause and wonder if it's slightly overpriced. ‍ Service Service was great. Our server checked on us regularly without hovering and offered helpful suggestions when we asked. Everything came out timely, and we felt taken care of throughout the night. Ambiance This is where Proper really shines. I walked into a cute, ground-level, dimly lit lounge with an opulent bar and a man playing the piano, which set the tone for the whole evening It felt upscale but still welcoming. Perfect for a romantic date night or a girls' night with your closest friends when you want to feel a little fancy. Overall The food, drinks, and vibes were so good that I completely forgot to take pictures, which almost never happens That alone says a lot. Proper Bar is a spot I'd return to when I'm in the mood for good cocktails, a stylish atmosphere, and a polished night out.
