I met Chad through a friend of mine who is a long-time real estate agent. Moisture had gotten into a portion of the bathroom wall nearest the shower door and the paint had bubbled up. Several contractors had come out before I found Chad, but none of them could figure out where the water leak was coming from. Since it was water damage, I called this company that used fancy equipment to locate where water leaks were coming from. That guy came out, ran his fancy water leak machine around the wall but couldn't figure out where the leak was coming from and left me with a $600 bill! Then the last contractor that came out to look at the problem (before I met Chad) recommended that I tear out the entire wall around the bathtub/shower and put in a whole new wall around the shower. When I asked him how much that would cost, it ended up being over $10,000! And the damage to the side of the wall appeared to be fairly well contained, approximately 5 inches in length, so I found it hard to believe that I'd have to go to that extreme of tearing out the entire wall. At this point I'm fed up with having several contractors come out, and not one of them can figure out where the leak is coming from, so I called my real estate friend to see if she or any of her real estate friends knew of a contractor that had done work for any of them that they liked, and she immediately mentions Chad, without any hesitation. I thought, okay, that's a good sign initially. No hesitation there to come up with a name of a contractor. He had done work in my friend's condo, including painting her condo (she still raves about the excellent paint job he and his crew did), and she told me that Chad had also done work for several of her real estate friends who were also very pleased with his work. It seemed everybody was happy with the work he had done for them, so I contacted him and told him about the issue with my bathroom wall, and we set up an appointment so he could come out to look at the bathroom wall, and we'd go from there. I couldn't believe the HUGE difference between Chad and all the other contractors I had contacted. Not only did Chad find what was causing the water leak (the sealing around the shower door had deteriorated in some parts and water was slowly leaking through). He immediately went to work resealing all around the shower door. Then he went to work on the portion of the bathroom wall where the paint had bubbled up and opened up just that portion of the wall where there was damage. He inspected for mold and thankfully there was none, but he explained he was going to leave a fan in the bathroom and that I was to leave it running to help with drying up the surface moisture around that area, and his crew would return a few days later to finish up the wall. So a few days past, his crew shows up and Lee patches up the wall, then returns a few days later to check on the wall and complete the work. When he's done, that wall looks like nothing ever happened. It looked like a brand new wall! I was so impressed, and so happy that finally...... FINALLY!....... a contractor showed up that was able to assess the problem quickly and know how to fix it. Remember the other contractor I told you about earlier that estimated a final bill of over $10,000? Chad's bill ended up being less than $800! I couldn't believe it. So of course I call my real estate friend after all the work is done and rave about Chad and his crew to her. I also thanked her for her excellent recommendation. Both she and Chad saved me from spending thousands of dollars on a job that really only ended up being less than $800. It's been several years now since that bathroom work was done by Chad and his crew, and that wall and the sealant around the shower door is holding up beautifully! Since that time, I've called on Chad for other work around my condo, because of the superb work they did on my bathroom wall. His crew has come over and installed kitchen lighting, and also came out and helped me with a dishwasher that was leaking on the floor. And the important thing for me is that every single time I have called on this company for any type of work I need done in my condo, they come out, they get the job done, and I never have a problem with the work they've done after. They fix it and it stays fixed. That's all I wanted. Fix the problem! Chad and his crew does! I love them! It just feels so good to know you can trust a company to do the work well, and it's a time saver for me because next time I need any work done? I know who to call. I don't have to waste time looking around and trying to figure out who's reputable, etc. My apologies for such a long review, but I know I like when people leave long reviews and go into detail because it helps give me a feel for the company and if it might be a good fit for what I need, so I hope my positive experience with this company will help someone out there. read more

I chose Artifex because they were willing to work with preserving old 60s house characteroatics and enclosed kitchen which can be difficult for the contractora. Chad was a great listener of my requirements and his estimate was resonable so I chose Artifex after interviewing over 10 contractors. His crew Michael and David were true professional who showed up 10 minutrs before 8 every day and fixed many old house issues along the way. Our kitchen and wood flooring finished on time and moatly on budget(some minor change orders). The whole process took onky 6 weeks and 2 wreks we enjoyed our scheduled vacation. They did outstanding job with workmanship, quality of plumbing, electrical work(passed permit inspection at first time). Chad was unbelievable in not only renovating our condo from water damage but equally as important in going to bat for us with the condo association's insurance company to get the rest of what we were owed (they only paid about half of what was due to us). It took over a year to get the full reimbursement from the insurance company and Chad never gave up. The job that he did on our condo was just amazing--he would suggest items that would save us money, gave us good advice on vendors to work with for supplies such as tile and cabinets, and the place was spotless when he and his crew finished. Chad was just outstanding. He not only did a first class job in renovating our condo, but he went to bat for us in getting the insurance company to pay what they owed us. We had water damage to our condo caused by a pipe bursting from between the unit above and ours. We wanted some other things done besides what the water damage caused. The total was over $100,000 of which the condo association's insurance company owed us about $49,000 for what the water damaged caused. We got $25,000 from the insurance company and they said that's all. Chad then went to bat with the insurance company to get the additional $24,000 that we were owed. We finally got the adjuster for the insurance company to meet with us and Chad about our claim for $24,000 after all the work was done. The adjuster agreed with Chad that we were owed $24,000. However it still took another 6 months to get paid. Without Chad being our contractor we would have been stuck with the $25,000 that the insurance company said was all we were going to get. read more

We had our house broken into about 3 years ago and still to this day, I look at our door that chad and his crew had redone and I'm so pleased. Chad's first appointment with us went fairly smooth....although he explained that it is in his business plan to build a kitchen that fits our budget and therefore does not and would not give us a quote until we signed a contract and paid $500 as a deposit. He was very personable and told us what we wanted to hear so we went ahead. His next appointment he had to cancel because his make-shift shelter for his tools blew apart in a wind storm. He then cancelled again because he forgot that his wife was having surgery. He left me a message saying that he would be able to come anytime the next day. I requested 2pm the next day to which he replied that he was unavailable. We finally settled on a day the following week. He then emailed over our quote which was double our budget. We had asked him several times if he thought he could do the scope of work within our budget and he repeatedly told us yes. When we called to discuss this ridiculously high quote he was very quick to dismiss us and tell us that we weren't a good fit. He did also offer to refund our deposit. We spent hours with him...and weeks working out appointments and such. Also....several of the 5 star reviews you see on this site are people within his business networking group....so that should tell you something. Don't waste your time. Don't pay for anything without a quote in hand. I've learned my lesson. read more

I don't think I can say enough good things about Chad and his crew. Long story short, I made a mistake when choosing contractors and it cost me a lot. I met Chad through my realtor and eventually brought him on board to fix the mess I had gotten myself into. Ultimately it was a full house remodel that I wasn't planning because of a lawsuit/asbestos contamination and horrible workmanship by the previous contractor. Chad and his crew came in, assessed the situation, gave me my best possible option, worked with me on payment, worked me into their schedule and got the job done. He literally saved me from going broke and helped me get most of what I put into the house back. On top of that his work was top notch. I had purchased a home in West Seattle to be closer to my mother. I wanted to do a few updates (kitchen, bath, the usual) so I had the Artifex team in to do a bid for the work. I knew right away that Chad's company would be a great fit. Chad was straight forward, honest and offered some creative solutions to challenges that are often found in a 1917 bungalow. The biggest issue was when, during a simple bathroom update, a major dry rot issue was discovered. Chad generously took the time to write a detailed report including photos and video. I was able to use that report to impel the seller to reimburse me for repairs after the report made it clear that the previous owner had intentionally covered up the problem. I had expected my realtor to help me out but the one who really made the difference was my contractor! He and his team was an amazing find! In a time when you are vulnerable to people taking advantage of either inexperience or a lack of knowledge, Chad and his team were trustworthy, honest and always did their best to create a beautiful outcome without spending every last dime.
