COMPLETELY DISRESPECTFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A BUTCHER JOB. We made sure to request Danny for my 13 year old son's haircut today as he had good reviews, and both booked online and confirmed by phone. When we arrived early to our appointment, he passed my son off to an inexperienced female barber saying he double booked-although we were there early and the other party wasn't there at all. Within 5 minutes of her working on him Danny proceeded to work on his own hair instead of my son's. No other party came. The inexperienced barber didn't listen to my son and did a careless job. What was supposed to be a fade was an almost bald shave with one side chopped higher than the other!! My son was getting his hair cut for his graduation photos tomorrow.

I don't have pleasure in writing this but I want to be honest and warn others. First met me say, the first haircut I got from there was amazing - the barber took his time, was great in conversation, and cleaned me up very nice. My friend came along too. So I decided to come back again and I had a different barber. He very clearly was rushing the cut the whole time, he cut my ear with the clippers that he admitted "weren't that sharp" so he was rough too. I felt the blood and he continued to cut around the cut and my mask. Essentially missed my neck but at that point I needed to get out. I went to the bathroom to clean the blood off and had to ask for a disinfectant to put on my ear bc it was bleeding. So yes I had to wear a mask bc of covid but the trim job around the ear was sloppy, then he cut it, and had to ask it to be disinfected - doubt he cleans any of his tools - gross. Not even a simple sorry when it happened. For the price, this was a horrible experience, sloppy, and unsanitary - couldn't wait to get out. $50 wasted.

His haircut is crisp. Love it

So my son has been getting his haircut with Donna since he was 1 aka his first haircut. Cozy cuts closed down so I decided to see where she started working because she's amazing. And my son loves her. She's always great.

    My hair before the cut.

Oka took an extraordinary amount of time talking to me and making sure to cut my hair as I expected. He was terrific. And so was Lake the individual who washed my hair. Never had so much attention paid to a wash. I will definitely be using this salon and in particular Oka from now on.

But most of those glowing reviews are pre-covid. I don't know if a lot of their stylists left but there's a notable lack of reviews post-covid. They're kind and the space feels lux and quiet. Problem is communication, went multiple times feeling very whelmed and changed stylist every time. After my third time I think I'm done, I've shown pictures and discussed with them what I wanted but they can never seem to get it right. Instead they default to a generic taper short off the sides and medium top cut, but then why tell me you can do the cut or even have experience with it? Is it my head shape? Face? Am I too ugly? Communicate that to me before you decide to just ignore the conversation we had and just free style. It's frustrating because I am growing out my hair for this cut and they do what they want. I don't want to be rude and stop you mid cut but then why am I paying so much just to be left unsatisfied? Most of the men leaving the place have the same exact cut. Anything longer than a short to medium cut is a no go, those cuts look clean and nice. Kept going in with shoulder length wavy hair just to get butchered every time.

I did call in advance to make sure he had time, he asked if I could stop by in 30 minutes, which was no problem. I was able to walk right in and get my shave and haircut.

I just saw a Times article about all the hipster barbershops opening up in Manhattan and was…read moreappalled by what I read. One jackass who charges $100 for a haircut talked about how a real barber (such as himself of course) only does 4 haircuts an hour. Really 4 haircuts an hour? That's 15 minutes each, which after getting in and out of the chair and prepping and combing equals about 10 minutes. You might as well go to supercuts to get that sort of crap haircut. Which brings me to Jerry's! If you are in the city and want to spend 1/3 of what some hipster doofus barber will charge you then check out Jerry's! I used to go to Jerry's consistently when I first started working in midtown but started going to a place in jersey near where I lived at the time, though I still pop over once in a while. If you are in midtown and want a good haircut, this is the place (great if you work in midtown and the boss is giving you crap about your shaggy hair). Mostly older barbers who can do a variety of styles (though I doubt they do shaggy hipster/bieber cuts). They give a very thorough, careful haircut. Usually lasts at least 25 minutes, since they actually take their time and go over it more than once to make sure it is perfect. It is pricey around $30ish I believe, but hey, its in midtown. And of course they use a straight razor, and less importantly but still really cool, they have an ancient hand cranked hot towel machine! P.S. Its very difficult to find (buried in the basement) so ask for directions at one of the rock center info desks located at each entrance.
