Our new favorite restaurant!! We loved everything about this restaurant!! Our waitress Melissa was awesome!! She made great suggestions, was very friendly while being professional and was very attentive. The food was delicious!! We had the pumpkin soup, beet salad, crab risotto and the Fluke fish. Each item we tried was even better than the previous, which we didn't believe was possible!!! The wine was superb. The lemon cake was moist and just the right amount sweet. This is a great addition for the city of Elkhart! We had a salad that was awesome with a scallops appetizer. Our main courses of a steak and pork chop were absolutely incredible. Wow. That's the first thing I would have to say. This restaurant is incredible in all ways. The ambience is trendy, relaxed, and classy. The manager and waiter were both super attentive and kind and were fantastic with their suggestions. I highly recommend the onion soup for the first course. It is incredible. I literally couldn't stop eating it and I didn't even order it. I ended up switching plates with my dad because I loved the soup so much. I ordered something very different for me for the second course and I ordered the lamb. It was honestly one of the best pieces of meat I have ever had. It was so tender and I could have kept eating it even though I was full. I don't remember the sauce that was on it but holy cow, I could have licked the plate (but that's not the classiest thing to do) haha. Oh, and the wine was amazing too. We could not have enjoyed the food more. We are from NJ and often eat at some of the highest rated restaurants in Phila. I would stack Artisan up to the best food we have had there. The wine list was great and reasonably priced, the food had depth of flavor and unique preparations very satisfying, the staff was very accommodating and pleasant. Every restaurant needs a Brad, a restaurant manager who attends to every detail to make sure you are satisfied and have an enjoyable experience. Don't know when or if I will be back to South Bend but if I do it will include Artisan. read more

My husband and I had a great meal at artisan tonight! Everything was delicious. I had the bouillabaisse and my husband had the filet for our main course. The lobster, salmon, mussels, fennel, leeks and broth were sublime in the bouillabaisse! I made sure to drink every last bit of the broth before my bowl was taken away. We also had the oysters for an appetizer and coconut sorbet and kiwi ice cream for dessert! We were needing a perfect meal for our long awaited date night and artisan hit the spot! Tuesday is half off ANY bottle of wine. Other places have exclusions to their deals, but not here. The bar area is perfect for watching the chef in the kitchen, or if you are solo. If you want a fine dining experience, this is the place. The service was impeccable and the food also first rate. My wife had the salmon and loved it. Because asparagus was on the menu with other selections, she asked for asparagus to be served with the salmon instead of what was offered on the menu. They were quite accommodating. In addition, the portion was generous. I had the filet with the asparagus. It was perfectly cooked and obviously quality meat. I wish I could remember the name of the Cabernet, but it was wonderful. You might think that a place like this might be a little stuffy but, quite the contrary, the staff is friendly and engaging. I had high expectations based on local buzz. Everything was excellent with one exception: the dessert. The two entrees - trout and duck were delicious. Wine, service, knowledge, excellent. The server didn't hesitate to find out answers to questions. But the dessert (apple tart) took excessively long to prepare and serve and was the toughest pastry. We had to request a knife to cut it. Pastry! I also was hopeful for more locally sourced and imaginative apples for a tart than the ubiquitous and ho-hum granny smith. From Washington State, no less. The other selections sounded ordinary: creme brûlée and the like, but were not tried. Still, I'll go back. Five stars will come if the same flair is applied to the desserts. Wouldn't we like to see this become a destination restaurant as well as a big occasion restaurant!? read more

Started w/ the scallops, hubby and I agreed probably the best we've ever had - sooo next time no sharing. They were perfectly seared and dressed w/ some yummy sauce and mushrooms on the side - ate it all! Had the lamb chops as my main dish - well-seasoned, tender, and scrumptious!! Then I finished w/ some apple cake thingy for dessert - meehh. Yelp does it again! Food and service superb. We had fresh salad with interesting greens and tasty vinegret. Tuna appetizer beautifly presented and delicious. My wife had white bass perfectly prepared and I had waghu, delicious tender beef medium rare...perfect. Very nice wine selection. Finished with crem brûlée. A delightful, albeit expensive, evening...about $150 plus tip. We will stop by next week when we return from our trip. We have stopped by Elkhart nearly every year or so over the past 30 years. We dined here with friends this weekend. It is the first true "hot spot" I have experienced in Michiana. The food was amazing everyone LOVED their meals. We all did the tasting menu which was fun and filling and a nice way to try many items on the menu. The menu is more sophisticated then most in the area but I feel like there is something on it for everyone. The restaurant is beautiful, the atmosphere hip, the service excellent, the food fabulous! I took my wife to Artisan for her birthday 1/16 at 5:30pm. The food was absolutely fabulous and my wife who is a corporate Interior Designer loved the decor & ambience. We live downtown Chicago so we are avid foodies. Aside from the fact that our server was "pleasantly" dismissive to my wife for some reason which we could have done without especially on her birthday, I would have given the place 5 stars. My boyfriend and I came to eat for a Christmas present and the service was amazing! We somehow dined on a slow night and were the only ones in the dining area. Our waiter, Lee, was exceptional! The filet and bison were to die for. The chef also came to our table and explained his inspiration for our desert, which was AWESOME! Easily one of the best meals my wife and I have had for quite a while. The wait staff is properly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. We felt that everyone struck that perfect balance of graciousness and professionalism that can make dining out such a pleasure. Excellent wine list reasonably priced plus a nice selection of cocktails from the bar. Try not to eat too many of the rolls because you want to hit all the courses. They have flavored sea salts to sprinkle on your butter which is an idea we will be stealing for our next dinner party. I know they change their menu on a regular basis but if the foie gras or smoked pork belly appetizers are available you will love them. My wife's chicken entrée was perfectly cooked with a delicious lentil puree. My waygu burger done just as hit all the right notes. For dessert we shared the crème brulee. Elegant and luscious, a wonderful ending to a great meal. For us Elkhart is a bit of a drive but Artisan makes it worthwhile. read more

Terrible, terrible host, and a bad drink. I tried to call and ask if reservations were needed, however the number didn't work. Whenwe arrived we were greeted by the hostess, I asked about the number online. She brushed me off and was unconcerned, said she was just back from break. We were sat at a nice table, and our server was very nice. After we were sat, other guests were asked for a coat check. We weren't asked to check our coats like everyone that came in. We didn't feel welcomed or wanted then. The cocktail I had ordered offered a weird aftertaste. Our server leveled with us and said she didn't like it either. Do you value your good staffed employees opinion? The food and the server was delightful. I'll say the pricing is a little far fetched from the atmosphere created. I'll not join them for dinner again. I would never recommend that you go there for dinner based on our experience. read more

We were somewhat disappointed !!! #1 they did not have my favorite wine by the glass, although I can order it by the glass at their south bend (cafe navarre) restaurant , so I did not order any. Was not going to be forced to select from the ones they offered. There was not a lot of variety offered on their menu. For the prices they charged I would have like to see more on their menu. Very stuffy atmosphere, especially after we did not order ANY alcoholic beverage. We dine in Chicago quite often and this is still not even close to a Chicago dining experience. We may give this restaurant a second chance after they have been there awhile longer and have a chance to get all the problems worked out. Tom read more
