We were visiting Mishawaka and wanted to end our trip with a nice meal and Saltgrass did not disappoint. It's not your traditional steakhouse (if you're from California) but the flavors were on point. The atmosphere had a tavern vibe with plenty of tables to accommodate large groups. We started with tortilla soup and Caesar salad which were fantastic. The wine list is very good offering many California wines at a reasonable price per glass. The food was good - however my medium rare filet came out rare and the ribs were slightly dry. However, the sauce for ribs was a 10/10. I made reservations to take my wife here for her birthday. We loved the looks of the outside, and the inside decor was great too. We were seated immediately and our server was very attentive. My wife got a grand sangria, which she absolutely loved, and I got a coke zero. They were very quick with my refills which I find important. We got the queso with brisket for an appetizer and it was very good. For the entrees, my wife got filet mignon and grilled shrimp with garlic mashed potatoes and a salad. I got the blacked redfish, which also had grilled shrimp, lump crab meat and a sauce. I also ordered the brussel sprouts and loaded baked potato soup. Our server came with our salad and soup, and told me they were out of the potato soup and brought me chicken tortilla soup instead. It was alright, but I was looking forward to the potato soup. Our entrees came out and they looked very good. My wife really enjoyed hers. Mine tasted good also, but the fish was undercooked and inedible in places. I ate what I could, but it was disappointing. If the fish had been properly cooked, it would've been a 4 star review. We will come back, I'm all for 2nd chances, but my experience fell short of the mark. read more

My partner surprised me with tickets to the USC/Notre Dame game!! While I was very nervous, as this was completely planned by him, I was pleasantly surprised with a late lunch/early dinner at Saltgrass!! He even picked both of our meals, to share of course! As a non planner he really knocked it out of the park! We shared their ribs, loaded baked potato, chicken tenders and jumbo shrimp! I got a Cesar salad, he went with the house! Both meals were fantastic!! The ribs were so delicious, we considered ordering one to go, even though we were both super full! I highly recommend the mojitos! I believe is was pomegranate! Service was top notch and the decor was so fun. Nice and clean and even the lighting is perfect for me, dim but not too dark. The food was incredible but I feel it do take a bit long to come out for not being that busy on a Tuesday night. My steak was cooked to order and all the food was delicious so worth the wait. I've been here three times with the meat eaters in my family and I've never been disappointed. The servers are always super great, very attentive. We've had to wait on one occasion, the hostess wasn't really trying to get us seated but the manager definitely had a sense of urgency to find us a table. The fried mushrooms are amazing, with their zesty ranch sauce. The pickles and peppers are okay too. I love their Caesar salad, so well dressed and fresh every single time! I usually get a baked potato and side of mushrooms or broccoli, their flash fried green beans are also excellent. If you get broccoli with cheese the cheese isn't shredded it's a cheese sauce like a Mac n cheese roux and cheese sauce. Also if you want regular asparagus be sure to mention it or else they'll bring you breaded asparagus. I also really want to try their frozen coke with rum, yum! The last time we were in a Saltgrass restaurant was 2014 in Norman, Oklahoma. Had dinner there numerous times and always found it to be outstanding. Thought we would try the Mishawaka location. Not busy and were seated immediately, next to the restrooms and treated by a mop bucket next to the table. The server was prompt in greeting us and we asked for the bucket to relocated. The server took our order and brought out a rather dry bread loaf and then took out appetizer order, The appetizer came after a few minutes, unfortunately there were no utensils on the table to use to eat it. The appetizer was okay but nothing to write home about. Salads came out shortly after the appetizer so the rush was on. Apparently, they were expecting a big influx of customers so they didn't need us enjoying a meal but needed the table. Still hardly anyone in the restaurant. The entrees were just okay. Medium rare steaks have lots of juice underneath them. Not these. Oh well. We declined desert when offered. Overall, when we compare what we had before in Norman versus what we had in Mishawaka, we were disappointed. There are better, less expensive choices in the area. I thought this restaurant would be set back in a private location. Silly me! There are a string of different restaurants on Main Street in Mishawaka, so turning into the restaurant area actually took us a few minutes because of traffic. I made a reservation through OpenTable, so thought they would treat us better than if we just walked in. That was a laugh. We sat at a center table (although there were no open booths in the side we sat on) with a view of the front door. Eek! We were served by a trainee, who never came by to ask about the food, and didn't give us sauces to take home even though we hadn't finished our main course there. We had to ask for boxes. Luckily, the guy who was training her did give us a sauce after we asked. As for the actual meal, my husband had an unsweetened iced tea ($3.69) and he thought it was fine, although no-one came by to refill, so I'm not sure if they do that or not. I had water, and the glass was large and filled with ice. The taste was good and it was very cold, excellent for a warm day. My husband ordered the 8 oz chicken fried steak ($19.99) which came with fries. I ordered the smaller prime rib ($35.99) with "sriracha drizzled" Brussels Sprouts, because another review I'd read said they were the best sprouts that person had ever eaten. Ha! The waitress warned me about the sriracha being hot, but needn't have, because there wasn't any drizzle on the veg at all. My prime rib was an end piece, so lots of salt/pepper, and not at all tender. Total waste of money. My husband's chicken fried steak was also hard beef, but the sauce/gravy on top was good, and the fries were good cold. The winner of the day was the "Loaded Potato Soup" which came with the entree. It was the best he or I had ever eaten, with lovely spicing and cooked thoroughly chunks of potato. Otherwise, it was only a "B" grade experience and I'd never come back, since we live an hour away. Decor is fun, though. With tip, it came to just over $75, which is a lot for 2 people considering we got no alcohol, and the meat was low grade. read more

Not only did our waitress take care of us but the manager and several others came by and checked on us and worked well together. The food was pretty good. Not as good as I remember from the saltgrass in Texas but definitely better than roadhouse and Logan. Have to say I was expecting slightly better. I got the ribeye bone in and it was pretty good and a health serving, along with the wedge salad and mashed potatoes. Wife got the filet. And the food was good. Just I guess I was expecting amazing. The ambiance is what you'd expect from a saltgrass from decor to how busy on the first week of opening. We'll have to go back in a few months and see if still keeping up the standard. This was my first visit to Saltgrass. Decor and ambiance were very nice - typical of a top notch steak house. My waitress was very attentive (more so than most places I have eaten at). I ordered the 12oz. ribeye cooked medium. It came to the table a perfect medium. However, the steak was much chewier than I expected - not at all tender. The manager offered to make me a new steak, but by then my mood was spoiled. I nibbled on the parts that were less tough and took the rest with me when I left. We went here on Valentine's Day without reservations (our fault, we should have planned better). We thought if we went early we may beat the crowd so we showed up about 3:30pm. There was a 2-hour wait. We decided to wait and have a few drinks. We ordered an old fashioned with knob creek rye and a dirty martini both were excellent! Our wait ended up being about an hour and 40 minutes. Once seated, we ordered the queso fresco with brisket dip = excellent! I had the filet cooked medium with mashed potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and very tender. My SO ordered the filet Oscar and he loved it too. Our waitress was also very friendly and it seemed that every worker was polite and smiling. I have to say this is the worst experience I've ever had at any steakhouse. The steak was overcooked. I asked for medium and since I don't like to send food back at restaurants I just ate it atleast it wasn't undercooked. The server was nice at first, but then one of the people at our table said that her food was burnt and though they did offer she didn't wanna wait for another steak. The Manager came over and asked my friend to cut her steak in another spot so he could see if it was red in the middle. I'm thinking excuse me there's no red throughout the whole thing because even the outside is burned. Then he says well I don't have my glasses on anyway so I can't see if it's red anyway. So what was the point? After that the waitress' demeanor changed significantly.
