I really wanted to like this place since it's right next door to the nail salon I go to and figured it would be easy to get lunch after. Sadly I won't be going back. Its clean and has a sports bar vibe but the food just wasn't good. the salsa tasted almost sweet which was odd. I ordered a cheese quesadilla that came with chopped tomatoes and onions as well. I could have had chicken or beef but just wanted cheese. Also a very small side of guacamole and sour cream. The portion was huge, I took half home for my husband but it was so greasy I could hardly manage to eat it. Mt friend had a chicken quesadilla that was smaller and not greasy and she was able to eat all of it. We both decided not worth a trip back. I grew up in Southern California and this is not Mexican food I would return for. read more

I really wanted to like Arturo's, as they are just down the street from me. The interior is nice, with a sports bar touch. We got the Carnitas and Arturo's Burrito, and both of us said, simultaneously, "there's something off in the flavors." This is a great local Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, and the food is really good. I had the mole chicken, and the sauce was not the heavy glop you usually get; it was light, but fully flavored. The server was there when we wanted him, but didn't interrupt our meal. It was food. Probably. The mole tasted like cinnamon and regret. The kids beef taco leaked so much oil I could have refined it and driven to the East Coast. Portion sizes were way too small to justify the cost. I'd rather honestly eat out of the Taco Time dumpster. We went during happy hour and overall I'd say I'm 100% satisfied. We ordered the street tacos with grilled chicken and asada (because the happy hour tacos only come with shredded meat.) And to drink had the house margarita and it was huge! I will say though, it tasted more like juice, but I'm not complaining since I'm not big on tequila. Our server was nice and attentive. If I could, I would give no stars. I just had a very unfortunate experience it Arturo's. I brought a friend there for lunch this afternoon. He ordered the happy hour quesadillas and a beer and I ordered a fajita quesadilla and guacamole off of the regular menu and a margarita off of the happy hour menu. I had a $20 groupon which I knew did not cover the happy hour menu but covered the quesadilla and guacamole which surprisingly, came to $20. Whoever the gentleman was who took care of us, dark hair with a little mustache, and don't even know if he was the manager, the owner or someone else, did not seem very happy to be there, never cracked a smile and simply said, just take a seat anywhere. When I got the bill it showed that 18.17 was taken off and I showed him I had a Groupon for $20. He said that was the way the machine worked and I would get 18.17 off the bill. I said, but I bought a Groupon for $20 and my food was off the regular menu and he said again, it's the machine that does it. I said, well that's not my concern how the machine does it, I have a $20 Groupon so if you just take another 1.83 off the bill that would be great. He just looked at me and then said, I'll take the bill to which I thought he was going to take the 1.83 off, but instead he said, I'll take the bill and don't ever come back here again. My friend just sat there in disbelief and I sort of couldn't believe it either. You're going to lose a customer over a 1.83, ask them to leave and tell them never to come back? Wow. read more

Wonderful Owner, excellent food, clean and sanitary. Adequate parking, clean restroom. Quick service. Very full plates and really good pricing! We went in after a show at the Seattle Center. Great place to relax, unwind, enjoy good food and atmosphere. We noticed several TV sets and lots of team spirit hanging throughout the restaurant. Not too small and not incredibly huge, but just right! OH! And Sat/Sun mornings from 7am-12pm they serve breakfast! We are anxious to go have their French toast meal! Loved this place! read more

I wish I could give them more stars. The people are super friendly. I went there for their Taco Tuesday, and I wish they updated their FB because it said around $1-2. It was more like $2.50. No biggie, I decided to get some to go. The tacos are hardshell and were soggy on the bottom.. We had dinner at Arturo's last night 12/23/2022, we were quickly greeted by our server Chris. She brought out water, menus and silverware promptly. Chris chatted with us and we all found her to be very welcoming & friendly. Our order and food was brought to our table within 15 minutes. The food was hot & delicious. We had no food to take home, it was so good. Chris told us they serve breakfast on Sundays, that is delicious as well. We will definetly be having more meals here. Very fresh ingredients make awesome dishes! Very friendly, good service. The waiter explained the gluten free options (many!) and asked if the food needed to be completely separated from any cross contamination. We said yes and he said he will make sure of it and make it happen. I can't say enough about how great everything was (breakfasts) with French toast, eggs Benedict, pancakes and huevos con chorizo (with homemade chorizo!). The view is stunning and honestly it was nice to see a good mexican happy hour menu. As soon as I was sat down, they offered me free chips and salsa. Lovely to have a complimentary treat while deciding from an extensive menu. This restaurant has non-mexican, tex mex, and mexican food. As an appetizer I ordered the calamari steak strips. These were deliciously buttery and soft with a nice crisp batter on the outside. Wow! I can't believe these are only $5 during happy hour. Served with a cool flavorful aioli sauce and cilantro w/ julienned cabbage and carrots. I ended up getting very full from the appetizer and chips, so I did a to-go for enchiladas and steak. Not sure if the owners look at this or not. My family has enjoyed Arturo's for several years. We go for quick dinners, grab to-go and family celebrations. The food and beverages have been good (especially the chicken street tacos margaritas). The service is hit and miss. Even with the issues of the past, such as; liquor license revoked and closing before posted hours, our family has continued to visit. We want to support local Des Moines. Today was enough. I took my son for lunch, I was craving the street tacos. I asked the server about Happy Hour, because it was highlighted on the website and was she told it was only M-F. I said (cheerfully, because I'm cheerful) Oh well it says it on the website. I was met with pushback and the server told me the website was old and wrong. I said okay well let your boss know. The server said well it was only M-F anyway. straw = camels back I felt awkward and argued with. The server seemed defensive to me. We were the only people in the restaurant. I told my son that i really didn't want to stay. He agreed and he said were outta here. Last thing I need for good digestion is feeling uncomfortable with my server. I've only had take out here and the food was good. It was fresh. I didn't feel like the beans tasted like they came from a can. It's been around for awhile now and I really hope it makes it. I never see people frequent this business much when driving by, but that's with most businesses in the Des Moines area. If I loved Mexican food more I would dine here more, but there's just too much food in the world for me to try that I can't be eating Mexican all the time. The owners are very nice. Few restaurants these days give you a generous amount of food for a reasonable price - Arturo's Mexican Restaurant is the exception. I suggest the Arturo Big Burrito! Never have I been able to eat the whole thing. The freshest ingredients and the mucho flavor, this is by far the best burrito out there. Arturo's has the best tortilla chips and pico de gallo around. And don't forget dessert when u visit. Sit at the bar and enjoy a Dos Equis with the owner himself and show up for Happy Hour from 6-8 daily. After a bad first experience I waited a couple of years before trying Arturo's again. When I went back, it was for dinner and the chile relleno was quite good. I also noticed they were offering lunch specials (which they were not when I visited the first time), so I went back for lunch several weeks later. Decent food, house-made salsa for the chips and $4 draft beer. Fine. Went back on Friday for lunch and chose the two taco lunch special for $5.95. The server asked what kind of meat I wanted and I asked for carne asada. She said, "That will be a little more; is that OK?" and I said it was. However... When I got the bill, "a little" turned out to be $4 more ... on a $5.95 lunch! $9.95 for two tacos, a spoon of Spanish rice and a spoon of refries is way out of line. IF I go back (and that's questionable at this point), I will be extremely careful not to ask for anything special. After all, who knows how much "a little more" will cost me next time? read more

My girlfriend ordered the carne asada and it was overcooked to where it looked like the discount tire rack at Goodyear. Bland Mexican food does exist! Arturo's is a nice place in a good location. However, I've never had Mexican with so little flavor. The chips were nice and I suspect homemade. However, the salsa started sweet like Ketchup and had barely any finish. I kept trying to find flavor but it wasn't there. Sadly this was repeated with all our dishes. I had the Nachos platter and the refried beans, all too plentiful, seemed to vacuum out all the flavor in the dish. EXCELLENT SALSA do not ever change it. It has been an exhausting search since moving to the Seattle area to find a Mexican restaurant we can call home. We will call this place Home. Our food was good I apologize for not taking photos. The food was full flavored my buddy did make a comment about the guacamole saying it wasn't the best and another friend said they ran out of paper towels in the bathroom. There was one waitress running the place but she was efficient and took care of us better than restaurants with multiple servers. They had several TVs for sports fans and a fully stacked bar area. Absolutely the second worst MexicanRestaurant I've ever been to. Not really a Mexican Restaurant. They don't really know what they want to be. I ordered a Flauta-Enchilada combination. The Flauta was boring, no flavor at all. The Chicken Enchilada was merely rolled in a sauce. Very dry with a tough tortilla, no cheese. Hard to eat without a knife. The rice and beans were ok.
