We have taken our two dogs and four cats to Arvada Veterinary Hospital and cannot overstate what a great experience we've had. We recently had to say goodbye to one of our cats and the experience is always horrible but the compassion and care shown by the Doctors and the entire staff definitely eased the pain we felt. If I could give zero stars I would. Dr Todd Smith is not only the laziest vet I've ever met but seems pretty incompetent. I am a fool for coming back here as I felt a red flag our first visit when my cat became gluten intolerant. He gave no advice as to why she was throwing up. Just said she's fine. Also said she didn't need her rabies shot (which I kept insisting I did) claiming it was good for three years. It wasn't. He just can't read a chart which is kind of the bare minimum in your job as a vet, right? Now she has kidney issues and thyroid issues. Instead of prescribing me medication immediately he says "go to CU Boulder for radioactive treatment." (Doesn't describe it or the process, I read about it online and talked to friends - all he did was terrify me with his vague description.) So I schedule an appointment with CU Boulder - but want to remain proactive so I call back. "Oh yeah, I would put her on this medication yea" (after I ask for it) then proceeds not to hit "approve" for days after I already paid for the medication. Oh and she had acne in her ears. He literally says "oh I'll Google it." Says that I can wait for it to get bad enough to get surgery or change food. Well, I googled it, found her ear wipes for $6, and it immediately cleared up. When I told him about I he's like "oh yeah that's good stuff". Please. What a joke. He doesn't care about your pets and seems to barely know anything not even how to use Google for crying out loud. But it gets better. A front desk worker suggested I talked to Hannah, the manager. I voiced my concerns. She acted empathetic and understanding until it was time to answer a simple question about a prescription I paid for - then suddenly I was gaslighting and blaming And not answering my question because I had her records sent to another vet. I posted about this on Nextdoor ans was shocked how many people have reported pets dying after being mistreated here. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. Don't go here, they don't care about you or your pet. read more

If you love your pet(s), don't bring them here. On 6/21, we brought our Siamese for what should have been a routine neutering. He ended up finally at a late-night Emergency vet to stop the bleeding and to get him a 2nd proper collar/cone, which they had neglected to give us on his primary release, and had to return for one that turned out to be too big and heavy for him, causing him distress and violent kicking--and further bleeding. Arvada was indifferent, unfeeling, and rude in follow-up calls for help/relief. Altogether it was a stressful 18 hour experience for him and altogether a $1219.00 bill for us. We had been taking our pets there for 15+ years--with a break for a few when we were without the need for a veterinarian, and did not know they were under new "management." But we foolishly trusted them, to the point of using our debit card following the initial neutering, thinking we were in good hands. We were wrong. The lessons are: do not take your animals there, and always pay by a method that allows you to cancel if you need to. Always do due diligence before you trust your pet with a veterinarian. Always. We will be filing formal complaints to the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine and the American Animal Hospital Assn., among others. read more

The staff is incredible, so kind and patient with my anxious rescue dog. They always welcome her in for drop in treat visits, and front desk staff Gabrielle even helped participate in her training by laying on the floor and letting my dog sniff her. I feel like a high maintenance patient, but they are always so welcoming and helpful which I appreciate because this is my first dog. My pup and I give this place two paws up!! read more

Our dog, Milo, was bit and attacked by another dog last month. Scary, and traumatic. We took Milo to Arvada Vet with the fear of infection due to the depth of the puncture wound. We hadn't visited a vet since moving to Colorado last December, and Arvada Vet was hands down the best choice! Milo needed surgery and had follow-up appointments. The staff was extremely caring, and most importantly, transparent during the process. The price scale was excellent, and all follow-ups were included. They also gave him his vaccines during the last follow-up, and I was able to go inside that time which further confirmed our feelings with the whole office. We can't thank Arvada Vet enough for taking such good care of Milo, and for keeping us informed, reassured, and comfortable throughout the experience. We're happy to say that Arvada Vet will absolutely be our choice moving forward for all of Milo's regular vaccines, appointments, etc! read more

We had an unforeseen emergency and called the closet vet hospital. Arvada Vet Hospital was so helpful and calming throughout our time at the vet. Our puppy ate something and went into shock, grey gums and very slow breathing. (Not to worry, He's healthy and thriving!) We called the vet upon arriving and explained our situation over the phone. Due to staff safety, in person visits were not permitted at the time. The staff/tech was quick to open the door and take our puppy in to see the vet. The entire situation happen quickly but they kept us in the loop the entire process. We completed all our papers outside and waited for more information. After getting our puppy oxygen and vitals, the staff asked us to repeat the story of what happened or what caused it. They were very calm and tried to take as much notes down for the vet. Our puppy colors and breathing all went back to normal. They kept our puppy monitored and advised us on what test to run. Overall, we had an extremely healthy dog with great vitals and bloodwork. We picked up our dog mid-day, they advised to monitor him and followed up couple times after during the week. The mystery was never solved, but he's healthy. The staff was extremely nice, calm and helpful. Thank you for caring for our dog with love and compassion. We have now made their our pup's primary vet. read more

This place is a disgrace to its profession. I've had such an abhorrent series of experiences here and feel it may help others if I share it. In short, Tiffany (a vet tech there) hung up on me when I simply asked for proper medication. She played victim and apparently lied to her boss about me. So then Dr. Adams called me JUST to dump on and scream at me, with no interest in the truth. When I asked her how she could be speaking to me this way, she doesn't even know me, she Dr. Adams (the medical director) yelled (actually SNARLED AT ME WITH CONTEMPT) -- "THANK GOD!" What kind of monster screams this to a client in tears and distress about her pet? Apparently she has the emotional maturity of an embryo and Dr. Adams is having the worst life ever and feels entitled to lash out at innocents. She also threatened to hang up on me and basically abandon my pet if I didn't stop talking (I was just trying to explain what happened), which is so messed up. I was offered to reach out to the owner, but he's not responded. Theresa E. (some kind of manager?) made numerous unwanted and harassing contacts to me. She didn't give a rat's ass what Dr. Adams did to me and actually defended them - cuz that's what the conscience-less do. I asked her to stop harassing me and since then, her untrue story is that I harassed her. Seems like a spiteful flip of story. This strikes me as pathological. I'd expect more from someone who told me they have a phd but I'm guessing she even lied about that at this point. I walked away from this clinic first and have no idea why they seem to be making false claims about me, and think their harassment is ok. It's not. I think these people are sick. I legit had to call the police (and report them to yelp) because this mad woman "Theresa E." has begun to go against the rules and regulations of her profession, and even violate my confidentiality, but this is being looked into by their regulatory board. They even lied to the authorities, which I'm not sure but I've heard is not legal. I think they abuse power to keep people silent, but I won't be bullied. I was stunned to learn later that both vets who looked at my pets test results (Adams and Sepp) at AVH failed to read the most basic of test results accurately. How this is possible is beyond me and caused considerable suffering. This is incompetance. I've done nothing wrong and am simply cringing at their immoral behaviors. In addition, further care from genuinely competant, wonderful professionals confirmed that the most obvious of results were neglected. Through AVH's negligence, my pet could've died. It's hard to believe they think it's ok to respond to their considerable negligence with such hatred and perhaps criminal indecency. I think Dr. Adams and Theresa need professional help. I only came here bc they were the only ones w/ time on short notice. Now I get why they have all that time. It's disgusting they didn't care more about my pet's well being. They take no responsibility for their vapid negligence and cruelty. It's disgusting and dark. I spent a lot of money here, only for them to be visciously abusive, and in the end, I believe that's all they cared about. This is all my opinion and my experience, obvi yours may differ. I took my dig age 13 in today because his breathing was off. A "Dr" there long story short prescribed him with a pill and 5 minutes after taking it he died. Dr. Anthony Smith said, gee did I not mention the side affects? Liver failure kidney failure heart attack? I said no, you said absolutely nothing about side affects. Nothing. Not even an apology. 200 dollar visit led to death. If I ever got a pet again I'd take him to hell first. But they managed to squeeze out a few more dollars from us. Karmas real. So, I love this place. I have been taking my cats here for years and they have always been super helpful. The reason for my two-star review is because of their actions as of late. I bring my 17/18 year-old cat here and at the last visit, they administered the completely wrong medication and did not realize it until AFTER they had already given it to her. No harm, no foul because the medication happened to just be anti-nausea (luckily) but that was not at all what she was supposed to be given. I was not mad and tried to be understanding, but it stressed me out a little bit. Secondly, I ordered a very specific food for her and was told at the time that it would be ready in about a week. I called on a Monday so when I hadn't heard anything by Friday, I called back to get an ETA. That was when I was told that no order had been placed, there was no record of it, and now I would have to wait WEEKS before I got this food prescription. They do have alternatives but, again, my cat is so old that I feel horrible changing her food and then having to change it again when the actual food that I ordered arrives. I'm just disappointed, sad, and stressed because I really do love this place. I just hope they do better in the future. I'm leaving this review so that people going here can note: 1.) to triple-ask what medication is being administered to their pet BEFORE it's given and 2.) if they make any phone-calls to this place, to get the name of the person that they spoke with incase they need it for future reference. I still would recommend this place, but just be wary. Side-note: I adore the staff here but if you can, try to speak with anyone other than Erica. She made it clear to me that she was the one that handles ordering food. She did not own up to not putting in my order, was unhelpful when I picked up my replacement food, and really just is not a helpful person. You will get much more help and compassion by speaking to someone else. read more

We are disappointed with Arvada Vet. We called them at 8am to talk to a tech or dr after visiting the emergency vet over the weekend. No call back so we called again at noon and no response. It's now 4pm and nothing. I wish the receptionist would have told us at noon they did not have time to call so we could have gone back to the emergency vet. We have been long customers of this clinic and have seen customer service go down the past few years. We stuck with them because they have taken care of our pets since a puppy and kitten. At our last exam I felt very pet parent shamed because we could not afford teeth cleaning for 3 pets. read more

These people FORGOT to order my medication for my cats for a week. Then will not refund me for my exams where they failed. They tried to push through and upsell me on another test to verify ringworm when the veterinarians at the rescue I foster for already verified the condition via scrape. They have now put me 10days behind treating my cats for a medical condition. The whole while saying they can only do $25 refund after I will end up paying over $200 for their incompetence. Do not go because they make excuses and then tell you that their failure is just your opinion. read more

Been taking our cat here for YEARS. Customer service unfortunately went downhill shortly after the pandemic, but we remained loyal to this place as the issues were with rude front desk staff with exaggerating wait times and not with the doctors or their techs. Fast forward to 8/16/23- we dropped off our cat early in the morning for his scheduled services. Come 4pm I haven't heard from the clinic so I called to ask if our cat was ready for pick up but I was placed on hold... for 10 minutes ... just for the front desk gal to ask me to hold again so she can go ask a surgeon if my cat was ready for pick up. The surgeon gets on the phone this time to tell me our cat was in a great mood in the morning during his routine check up, but afterwards they placed him in the "back away from other animals and after being there alone all day he's showing signs of his adrenaline being very high for having to wait hours for his sedation before providing his lion cut and a blood drawn test and after giving him one dose of medicine to sedate him and his adrenaline being high still they gave him a second dose and no sedation is happening so instead of giving him MORE drugs the cat is now ready for pick up and should be re-scheduled for his other services which we will try to do closer to his drop off time." My cat spent 5-7 hours alone, WAITING for the scheduled services and nothing was done other than wasting our time and showing cruelty for how they mishandled our appointment time and not to mention- they required our cat to not have food the night before or the day of his appointment. He had been caged all day with no food and no services that we were expecting to have done. We dropped him off at 8:30 am and not even a phone call was made to us... they close at 5 and here we are calling them at 4:45 to ask if we can pick our cat. A few minutes later a second surgeon called to asked if we were coming to get him as they're now closing. Are you kidding me? Those people don't communicate with each other at all or with the pet owners. I told the second surgeon that I actually called a few minutes ago to see if I can pick the cat up because we've been waiting for a phone call all day. He was surprised and I told him the disappointment they caused and shared with him what was said during the previous phone call with his colleague. He agreed it was unfortunate and that was that. Our cat was not his usual self after getting home, he was starving for one and he was very down and out (thanks to the double doses of drugs they gave him on an empty stomach). This clinic has gone to crap. We payed a lot of money during the years at this place but never again... I will go out of my way to advice people to go somewhere else. They don't care about the animals or the pet owners. You are nothing but a number here- interestingly enough a few days before the appointment they called me to convince me that the blood work was needed if I wanted to proceed with the sedated cut and that it would be an additional $180. I found out later that it's only suggested for cats to have done yearly after the age of 7-8... our cat is 6 and healthy. Again- shady business practices they don't care as long as they're billing people. If your pet is dear to you- take them ANYWHERE ELSE but here. read more

When I grew up as a kid in the 80's , we always took our dogs to the Arvada Veterinary Hospital. I have been away for several years and recently returned home. Now, I have a diabetic cat who needs constant attention and the folks at the Arvada veterinary Hospital have been fantastic. All of the staff were great. From my first call with Annie, to the vet tech , Brooklyn, and then the Doctor. Dr. Anema spent nearly 45 minutes on the phone with us with her findings due to the coronavirus pandemic. She explained everything, she suggested tests we could do, but never forced anything on us. They were very upfront about costs so I don't understand what people are saying about adding additional charges. They never did anything without our permission. I love my 16-year-old cat, and they took care of my baby as if he were family. I will go back to them for sure. Thank you! read more

We have really, really given this group a try, but we have been disappointed every time we have done so. Four years ago, the veterinarian told us our newly adopted "probably" dog had Parvo (he didn't). Last year when our cat got sick, they were on both ends of the spectrum--they said we should either spend thousands of dollars on tests or "wait and see." After spending the money only to find no clear reason why he's starving to death, he was put on steroids. Now they gatekeep his medications, forcing us to spend a hundred dollars or so every month before they will give him his medications. I understand wanting to keep an eye on him, but since we can't figure out what's wrong, how about we just make him comfortable while we can instead of poking him monthly? Finally, we had appointments today for all three of our pets' yearly exams. I had to take time out of my day to call them back as they tried several times to reschedule one of the three to another day. I explained that all three were coming in a row, and that we made these appointments six weeks ago. They said they would keep the appt as scheduled, then changed it without asking (I received an email). When I called back about the email, they told me to disregard. They said we would keep the appt as planned, specifying date and time. When I showed up today, nobody was there to let us in. I called several times and left a few messages and eventually ended up leaving. I took time out of work to attend these appointments, and I'm not going to sit in my car running the A/C for 30 minutes to an hour with all three pets in 100 degree heat because they had a hard time communicating with each other and with me. Looks like Indian Tree has better reviews--we'll try them out instead. read more

I went here for the first time for my cat with megacolon. We have a vet who is much farther away and since this place is down the street i thought i would give it a try. I made my appointment and specified that my cat is very stressed at the vet and wanted to make sure we would be seen in a timely manner. My appointment was for 10:30 am, I did not even get to talk to the vet until 11:30, meanwhile my cat is stressed beyond belief. The vet talks to us for literally 5 min, does not even LOOK at my cat-I literally could of had a chinchilla in the cage for all she knew, and then comes up with an $850 estimated bill. Which is about $600 more than the last vet for the same exact issue which was that he was needing an enema and removal of obstipation. At that point I decided I would rather take him back to my old vet who is farther away. They proceeded to charge us $57 for the exam even though they did NOT examine my cat-literally did not even touch him. We literally just paid to wait in the examination room for an hour and a half and talk to a vet for 5 min. I took my cat back to my old vet who only charged me $60!!! NEVER GO HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. read more

Disappointed - 14 months ago, I had to have them euthanize my beloved six year old dog. She had lost almost half of her weight in 3 weeks, stopped eating and was going downhill fast. I had to do this because after thousands of dollars spent on tests, drugs and operations plus the blank stares and "I don't know" from the vets, I had to end her suffering. Fourteen months later, I got a new dog from the shelter. He weighed 15.2 lbs. during his initial exam. After two weeks I brought him back for his rabies booster. I discovered he had lost almost one pound and I started thinking he was having issues like my earlier dog so I asked them to perform a full blood test. I called the next day for the results and ended up leaving my cell number. They ignored this number and left a message on my home answering machine with "his results look normal" but did not comment on the sudden weight loss. I called the vet back and asked if they could offer a few ideas on how to get his weight up. My request was refused and all I was told by the vet on duty she would have to see him again to offer a suggestion because another vet saw him. I was shocked. They had already seen him two times and one of those times was 24 hours earlier. She would not offer any general ideas or info on getting his weight up. I also found out they had given him a shot for some other type of protection from wildlife which I had not authorized. I am fortunate because a vet technician from a different veterinary office lives next door and she took a look at my dog and offered some ideas. I also live within 10 minutes from 5 other veterinary offices and you can bet I will be contacting them. I was a bit freaked out due to losing my last dog and needed some type of reassurance and help but Arvada Veterinary fell way short of this. I guess if I paid for yet another office visit, I may have gotten the general answers to my questions. read more

As other reviews said, they add on fees for services you didn't request. I was a customer for five years, but I had the rudest call with the appointment tech yesterday. She refused to book an appointment for essential shots unless I also agreed to additional, unnecessary expenses and fees. When I refused (I'm a student teacher = broke), she offered to inactivate my file! I gladly accepted. Glad they're doing so well they can afford to lose customers! read more

Kudos to AVH for recommending K9 Body Shop for our arthritic Shih-poo. It became to painful for her to get up and around and we took her to AVH who has taken great care of all out pets for years. After testing for all the basics they concluded that the best option would be physical therapy. We made the appointment with K9 and could see immediate improvement. They have instructed us how to massage or beloved pet which we do every day. Once a week we take her to K9 for treadmill mill therapy. Thank you very much for your suggestion! read more

The only reviews I write are to help others out to save them time, money or BAD experience... My daughter is a nurse (during Covid) and I am helping out by keeping her dog. Her chihuahua has problems with clogged anul glands and usually I take him to the groomer and they "clear them" for $10. since all groomers are closed, I called the Arvada Vet hospital. They said they would see "Harley" for $37.50. When I decided I didnt have a choice, I said lets book the appointment. After the receptionist put me on hold, and came back, she said "since we havent seen Harley (my other dog is a patient) they would have to do a full physical first. He doesnt need a physical (as he lives in Arizona with my daughter and is up to date on all exams and shots)!! Why would I want to pay for a full physical when he needs a 2 minute procedure?? Even when I asked in these trying times, if they could help me out, they said no. PLEASE find another vet, as this is not the first time they "upsell" when its not necessary. To have a dog spade here, its over twice the amount my sisters' vet charges! Find a vet that cares more about your pet then just the money (yes, all vets are in business to make a living - but not a killing at your expense) read more

I have had amazing experiences with a few vets here but one in particular I do not recommend. Dr Adams and Dr Sepp are amazing! They have treated my animals with great care and are willing to take the time to listen to me to really get to root of the issues. However, I absolutely do not recommend seeing Dr Anema. She is rude, does not listen to anything you have to say and will not let you get a word in. In order for you to speak, you have to speak over in which she keeps talking. She makes me feel as if she is not listening to me at all. I never agree with her plan of action because she does not listen to the issues at hand. I will never be taking my animals in to see her again. read more

My dog needed emergency surgery on Christmas Eve they were closing and referred me to a 24hour clinic that was ridiculously priced. The veterinarian went in the back came out and told me she and a few of her staff would stay and perforce surgery at 1/3 of the price they literally saved my dogs life on a holiday so I will take my animals there for life and refer everyone I know to this hospital. I own a business we can make some of the people happy some of the times, but we can't make all the people happy all the time. So when I see negative reviews I understand however they saved my dog when they didn't have to. read more

I've only taken my dog here a few times and decided to return for her vaccines as recommended as well as take my grandpas dog. The two ladies who did our appointment were incredibly nice and helpful. But when checking out hearing how much the 30 minute visit for 2 shots each dog cost us was very upsetting. I called last month to request an appointment and was told it would be around $40 for the appointment and the shots she needed. I assumed it would be the same for my second dog. I was charged a $65 canine wellness exam per dog who shared an appointment as well as $28.30 for the each shot given to them. I was not advised of this prior to this visit only when paying. So instead of paying the approximately $100 I planned for, I paid nearly $250. And when I asked the receptionist of a break down of the charges and how the price of the visit went up so much I was rudely told "the prices went up in the last few days." They should have at least honored the prices the day that I scheduled the appointment. I guess I was naive not to ask prior to the appointment but it left me with a bad feeling about this place. I don't recommend going here just to be overcharged for unprofessional customer service. read more

Called them well beforehand and was told my deposit was not refundable. Based on other 1 and 2 star reviews posted, this is consistent with their MO. I have three dogs and 2 cats. I've been going to AVH since I moved to Arvada 6 years ago, and they have always been great with my three cats. We see both Dr. Adams and Dr. Anema, and they both have always taken the time needed to address my concerns. We've been through routine shots, dental cleanings, an abscess, pancreatitis, and now kidney disease. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff here. They are always prompt and courteous and the vets are always willing to work with me to find workable solutions for my pets. read more
