Where do we start? I live in St Charles and basically we ordered an above ground pool filter Cartridge on 5/16/25 and provided the specs and details to the staff member in the St Charles office. (bear in mind that they currently service our pool and really should have a database with all these details). Nonetheless, we wanted the filter for our pool opening at the end of May as we had family coming to town and were informed that it would arrive Thursday of the following week, May 22nd. It never arrived and I was informed that it 'missed' the large order that goes out 'once a week' and was informed that 'hopefully they will have it next week, May 29th at the St Charles office. Never arrived!! We waited another week but this time, having lost faith in the staff member in question, I called the Crystal Lake office and spoke with Dan from the service/stock room only to be told that they were having trouble sourcing the cartridge and he assured me that he would have a temporary onefor me by Friday, as they had ordered me the 'Top of the range' filter that is the best out there. And yes, you guessed it.....I never got a call Friday or anytime after that from Dan. In fact, the weekly service team arrived to my house on Monday, June 2nd only to ask if had received my filter, to which I said no. To make matters worse, I arrived home later on that Monday to discover that the service team had taken my dirty 2 year old filter that had been sitting out in the rain for weeks, washed it down and put it in the pool filtration system as an alternative. In the process, he washed the filter on my lawn and left about a 20 sq ft of white acidic residue on my grass that I am unable to remove. Fast forward to Wednesday and I received a call from Arvidson's Crystal Lake office to come pick up my temporary filter that day at the St Charles office. I happily drove there the same day only to meet the same staff member with a deer in headlights look and no idea what I was referring to and unable to locate a filter cartridge. I did receive a call yesterday from St Charles alerting me that the cartridge (original one, not the Temporary one) was finally here for pick up. I picked it up today, went through the process of emptying my filtration system only to discover that it was the wrong cartridge and nothing like what we ordered. Not even compatible to the same system. I have not reached out yet as I am too upset! What I did do was go on google and found my cartridge in two minutes and was shocked to discover that they retail for $72.99 (Hurricane model) and not the '$216.99' I was charged by Arvidsons. The incorrect one they sent retails for $92.99. That is a 233% mark up. Are you kidding me?? Needless to say my experience this year with Arvidsons has been a hugely inept one and extremely disappointing to say the least. The fact that I felt like I was being lied to on a number of occasions upsets me most, given that my background is in corporate client facing environments. I walked in to ask about an above ground pool filter. I noticed the smell of weed but chose to ignore it, the girl at the front went by the name of Emily and I did see what looked like an oil pen sticking out of her pocket. I understand that kids will be kids but this is highly unprofessional in a work place setting. No customer should walk in to a pool place to the stench of marijuana, I hope in the future the company will fix this hence I will not trust someone under the influence while working to help with my pool. read more

We got our hot tub/spa here in Nov '21. It took about 10 months from start to finish. My only complaint was how LONG it took but now that we've had it- we are very happy with our decision to go with Arvidson. We worked with Nadine and she was helpful. They offer payment plans / installment plans and financing. They had all kinds of different spas and things to choose from. The guys who installed and delivered the hot tub were FANTASTIC! They were extremely knowledgeable, efficient and friendly! I can not thank them enough! read more

Excellent salespeople -- accommodating and low-pressure. Hot tub was pricey, but very high quality and well designed. My issue with them is the Palatine store has more than once failed to stock basic necessary supplies, such as the salt for my salt system (which is hard to find because more finely ground than pool salt), or more recently, a filter. Very disappointed in their service. Called in the Spring to have them pick up my pool cover for repair and it took a few weeks to get picked up. Then it took them a couple months before they could look at it, and a moth later (August) they told me it was not repairable. I told them I would like it back and it took another few weeks to get it. I went to pick it up and the bag was missing. So one thing after another. Do not go there for cover repair. Bad follow through and bad communication. read more

We had a new vinyl liner installed by Arvidson. Bill Grant, of Arvidson, was the person in charge of the order and installation. He measured for a quote, which was very reasonable. He then had the installers, Erick and Luis, from Arvidson, come out to measure before the order was placed. The liner was a perfect fit--for a difficult in ground pool. The bottom measurements of the pool change at every inch. We were impressed by how perfect everything fit--this is our third liner and the best fit and installation. Erick and Luis were outstanding. They prepared the pool sides and bottom--that are not visible once the liner is in place--as if it would be seen by all. The installation was very professional. Just not impressed at all.....it's all smiles and promises before you purchase. But afterwards it's sorry Sir I don't know what to tell you ‍. This is my second purchase from Arvidsons First I bought a hot tub like 5 years ago loved the tub but when it needed maintenance they didn't want to be bothered, whatever it got fixed I chalked it up to a bad day. So last year we decide to buy a pool in June was told it would be in in September due to the " pandemic" also had to get a permit to be able to buy the pool ok so in the beginning of September I dig a hole for my pool. So guess what no pool in September yep you guessed it pandemic again. No communication no I'm sorry Sir no compensation just a giant crater in my yard. No pool in October. So I finally get a call in November telling me my pool is in and they'd like to deliver it. I tell them no I'm not storing it over the winter they can which they weren't happy with but agreed. So now fast forward to March I call to have them deliver the pool and line up a time when they tell me "Oh by the way we don't have your stairs yet." What do you mean I ask I ordered this in June no one told me in November we didn't have stairs?? I got we're sorry Sir that's just the way it is you guessed it again COVID! But it'll be in within a month or so. Ok fine I figured I gotta get it installed in April anyway no big deal right!?!? All of March and April are gone so I call hey anybody heard about my Stairs that I ordered in June of last year??? The answer I get is eh you should have it by the end of June maybe ...... no alternative solutions.... no communication..... no compensation..... people telling me they'd call me back only to not bother. Not to mention the missing pool supplies that we're supposed to be there for the install. The products themselves are pretty good the customer service and business management leaves a lot to be desired it's really unfortunate and I'll never buy another thing there including their over priced supplies I work hard for my money and paid promptly. 100% disappointed in your service department. We are willing to spend a lot of money to get our pool fixed and your service guy came out to our house. He needed to order a part and told me that we would be called (when he knew about the part) Almost a week went by and no call. I finally call and am told that the part is on order and that they didn't know when it would come in. I specifically asked them to call MY number when it did (not the land line which hasn't be answered in 25 years...lol) Not only was my number not called but they came by the house yesterday and didn't call...the cell given to them. So we were home downstairs and didn't hear them. Now I have talked to them today and they said they won't be in the "area" again for a week. I feel that since you guys failed to call the phone number given multiple times...that you should go out of your way on this one and get us an earlier appointment. Excellent experience! We looked around for a while and kept coming back to Arvidsons. Our sales woman was , great to deal with, no pressure sales woman was Nadine. She actually told us to shop around after she gave us all the information we were asking about. We did just that and after a month of last looking came back and purchased a Caldera Hot Tub. They delivered on time and setup exactly how we wanted. We will be replacing our pool soon and will definitely go with Arbidsons when the time comes. I really believe in supporting local businesses, even when their prices are so much higher than big box stores and online sources. And I've really, really tried to support Arvidson over the last decade or so, but I am just so fed up that I'm done. I will never ever go back there. They're only 3 miles away and every other pool store is much further away, but I don't care. The staff is very nice. The only issue is that none of them have any knowledge whatsoever about anything related to swimming pools. Don't bother ever walking in and asking a question. They can barely find things in their store (if you bring in the part or bottle you're replacing). The service department and parts department are the primary reason I won't go back. I brought in my mesh cover to repair a big hole (basketball sized) and many tiny holes (pencil sized). I brought it in in May, they lost it. I called and called and went in a couple times and in September they found it and quoted $3000 to sew on some patches. WHAT?! I said no way. I brought in my Aquabot in March for repairs, because a track gets stuck sometimes. They lost it. I called and called and went in 4 times and emailed and they FINALLY found it in June and said "we don't know how to fix it". I went in today and picked it up and again, the managers or service people can't even apologize for how terrible they are. I had also tried to buy a pump and a heater from them in the past, but their prices were double to triple the prices from other sources. I also had tried to get service for my old heater and they said it would be 6-8 weeks, but they wouldn't fix my brand anyway. Overall, there is absolutely no reason that you should go there for any product or service or advice. I know I never will again. read more

Particularly friendly and helpful are Nadine and Jimmy and the various service folks that have serviced my pool since Arvidson's built it 11 years ago. Most recently, Tim went above and beyond helping me on a Saturday with an emergency. Tim was able to walk us through manually getting our pool up and running until the service department could replace the motor on the following Monday. read more

Poor service. Definately not the same as it was in the past. This was my 3rd visit this year and I am not going back. 1st time I was sold the wrong tablets and signed up for the 'true blue promise' which wasn't what I was told it was, 2nd time I had to return and repurchace the correct item. 3rd time I was told my alkline being high was not part of the true blue program - even though a woman possibly a manager told us everything aside from a chlorine demand was covered. We are purchasing a home and needed a pool inspection done. We called this store and they were able to send someone out on the day we requested. The guys who came to do the inspection were great, however, the follow-up and follow through with this company is TERRIBLE! It has taken over 2 weeks to get our report from the inspection... we still don't have it, by the way. We have called and left several messages and they don't call back. When we do get someone on the phone it is always... well, so and so isn't here... or... we'll have it for you later today... It is incredibly frustrating working with these people. Doug Marunde, one of the Arvidson owners, was exceptional from proposal to planning and design, budgeting, execution and completion. Doug is a very trustworthy, honest person, and he patiently led us through every step of the way. This is the first pool we've had installed, and we revised the design a couple of times along the way. Doug easily adapted the plans and had brilliant suggestions on how to incorporate our wishes. He was always available to talk to us and even came out on a few Sundays. He kept us apprised of each step. There were no hidden costs, and Doug went above and beyond in every way.
